In other news- OOOooow. My arm is KILLING me. I've been working on Gaia drawings and commisions non-stop that my arm is finally screaming that I stop. My arm, all the way up to the shoulder is kinda sore and it hurts Its never gotten like this before and I honestly think its due to all the on-computer inking I've been doing. I'm not used to it and I hold my tablet pen funny when I do it. My poor arm. Anyone know of any excercises or tips to assuage the pain? Its not TERRIBLY bad or anything, but I do want to help it along on the way to recovery. I think I'll just stick to traditional penciling/inking for now. It tends to be easier on my wrist.


That said, onto the meat of my journal post! When posted a journal entry way back in the day saying she was offering a free sketch to the first 10 peeps who commented on her journal, I actually got a spot and found the proceedings to be such fun I told myself I'd do the same in the near future.

Is this near enough? Sure, why not?


The first 10 people who comment with a request on this journal will get a free sketch by me. I'm not going to require you to re-post this offer in your journal, so no worries Not only is this a neat idea to get yourself some spooney art, but it'll give me a chance to dig through your gallery and check out your art- leave a comment or two while I get ot know the subject you want me to draw. If you have something specific you want, please say so, although I'm kinda worried about getting requests to draw fan art of licensed characters like Jack Sparrow or something from a well known series. If you notice in my gallery I don't draw ANYTHING of that sort, but...we'll see. I'd actually like it better if you asked for something that means alot to you- a character that you created or something that totally says YOU more than Sailor Moon does

Yep, thats right, relocated my little butt to sunny San Diego. Yesterday was my first day here and it was pretty cool. My new place is about a ten minute walk to the pier- hopefully I'll find a beach on one of my next exploratory walks.

The flight here even in the dark was breathtaking. Nothing but beaches and palm trees as well as the occasional spanish architecture. I think the passengers next to me kept laughing because I had my nose pressed to the window going, "oooh, lookit that! woooow..." I don't fly very often- this was like my second time on a plane so I kinda got a little giddy. My favorite parts are when the plane speeds up and begins to take off as well as the turbulence. I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster.

That said, the movers don't arrive with my things until the 7th of January. Which means I'm living out of my suitcase and have nothing but a computer in this place for 3 days. The fridge is pristine and empty too, but luckily I got nearby pizza joints to order delivery from and neat little bistros and diners down the street.

But enough about that, whats going on DeviantART wise? My Dev ID was chosen by the Word Worth 1000 Pics community to be featured in their weekly journal. This weeks word was ID. Be sure to check them out! I love communities that are on the lookout for artists, you find some really surprising work that way.
Also, is hosting a very cool gargoyle art project. So if you're a gargoyle fan and haven't checked out her journal, I suggest you give it a look see. The project looks to be something big. I know I'm entering.

Anywho, news? I'm still in limbo land, so artistically, all my junks non-shareable (no scanner) and there shall be no tablet practice for this spoon (its still hiding in a box- my tablet would make a killing in a game of hide and seek). There are rare moments where I visit a house with a scanner and/or tablet, so who knows? I might manage to squeeze something in.

That said, I'm hard at work working on story and panels for my submission to VOIDs Pulpo comic anthology- I'm pretty stoked and surprised I got an invite to submit something. @w@ I just wish my usual writer for stories wasn't so busy- I haven't a head for GOOD storytelling. At least ten pages they said...

If anything getting into the comicy side of things was partly thanks to - it made me realize all the old comics I used to do have never seen the light of day and well- its high time some of them did!

Funny fact: Back in elementary school I used to draw and staple together my own comic- I'd manually re-make copies by hand because I was like-10? and apparently not aware of the wonder that was a Kinkos. I'd only be able to churn out like 3 and had them on this pouch taped to my desk for people to buy for 25 cents. The comic was entitled, "The Adventures of SuperWorm and Roach Boy" Some compelling sotrytelling, lemme tell ya. The arch nemisis was Evil Slug who met his doom with a shaker of salt.

Shout outs to all the VOIDers who added me these past couple days- y'all are fabulous. Its awesome meeting a group of very friendly new artists- rock on everybody, rock on.

I just had to, I love the characters and had always surfed the net finding bits and pieces of Barbuci and Canepa's art. I mentioned to her how much I loved the comic and was really bummed you couldnt get a translated version in the states...BUT GUESS WHAT?? :0 She not only sent me the first two issues in PDF format, she also tossed in a handy dandy translation with it!
I was so stoked I began using that lovely translation and have been hard at work re-wording the entire first issue in english! I've been sending it to friends and they're loving it Its really such a great comic book series, it deserves to have more readers.
I cant wait until I get the rest, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next! Thank you !

I usually don't enjoy coloring art in photoshop due to the fact I find it hard to handle and I always wonder how people get such amazing gradients/blending in their photoshop work. I just had a friend come over, tinker with my computer and turn on the PEN MODE my wacom apparently has but failed to mention when it came out of the box. It was like a shaft of light beamed down and said "Ho there! I grant the powah to color awsomely now! Blend woman blend!"
Holy crap..why didn't I know about this? I hear about people talking about the pen mode in photoshop but I figured it was what I had (which was crap) Gads I feel kind of a dumb...n00b point for me.

"It looks like I'm going to be the only dissenter in this group. I don't have time to post all my issues now (have an Ethics test in less than an hour) but I think the correct decision has been made (and by now you should all know that Kerry conceeded to Bush this afternoon). As a law student I've learned through careful study that you can't believe the media or politicians. That's obvious statment #1. Obvious statment #2, then, is since you can't always believe "the middle man" when it comes to getting your information. If you want the truth about any piece of legislation you have to go straight to the source. The same rings true for any politically-oriented subject. Anyone who relies solely on the media or bulk-mail fliers (or Michael Moore, that fucking hack [I hate Michael Moore for reasons other than the fact that I'm Republican, thank you]) then you need to have your head checked. Post Haste.

A lot of people have complained (myself included) that pretty much -all- campaigning has come down to making people answer one question: Which of these assholes is less of an asshole? The fact that we have been presented with nothing more than choosing the lessor of two evils can be directly related to the absolute partisanship of -every facet of our government and society-. Racism, anti-semitism, political infighting, all of these things and many more forms of bigotry can be traced back to one single solitary problem: That we, as a country, as a People, lack the -willingness-, not the ability, to form any concensus because we are too -fucking- self-absorbed. Quite honestly, I would have voted for Kerry if I thought he actually showed an ounce of interest in uniting the country instead of just waving the "Bush is Evil" flag all over the place. And, of course, Edwards' comment on Cheney's daughter during their debate didn't help my opinion of the pair, either.

Of course one could argue that the Republicans are guilty of the same tactics, and they are. But -we- allow ourselves to be influenced by this kind of propoganda, so can we really blame either side for using what they know will work? Political campaigning and fear combined have much the same outcome as putting bikini-clad supermodels in beer commercials. No one wants to admit that they're influenced by it, but they are! It's a psychological inevitability: that which you believe you see becomes your reality."

I explained the story to him and showed him my work and he smiled and said, "Well, I'm liking some of your changes.." so we both start tinkering with his charatcers. After a while Hogan comes down and says," Has he taught you what you have to do?" and Billy turns to him and says," acutally I'm having her help me re-design a character, I'm liking her ideas,and she's fleshing out some traits and features more"
It was pretty awsome. It almost felt as if I was part of a design team, we talked, discussed and laughed over changes and I spent a better part of the day just sketching the characters out in different poses and expressions, it was really fun. I even had to make copies and give them to the class X_x
That and i forgot my wallet that day and Hogan gave me monies for lunch. It felt weird taking money from a teacher, but He's so cool.
Working on all that made me miss animation class... The odd thing was some things about the other clan members were a tad different from the Tengu series I've been following, but hey it was a good read nonetheless. I've also started some other really great fanfics from awsome writers and their own renditions of the other Gargoyles clan members lives. It really inpsires me to draw (because well, Im' a sucky writer ) It also raised alot of questions about Garg mating habits and their relationships...and well to put it plainly, how much I didnt know 0.o;
In other news, I've been refreshing and browsing 's DA page like crazy trying to get that darned kiriban! *laughs* I have class today from 1 to 10pm so I'm prolly going to miss it. This months AMGC contest subject is "The Wrong Side of the Law" I'm going to try and do two entries for this month of Ilianna and Acuzio seeing that its August and well, I'm a doof like that and think of August as MY month since my birthday is in it I'm liking how its turning out which is a welcome change to everything else I've been trying. I notice so far most of the entries are set in current time..it makes me wonder if mine will fit in 0.o

So! Peoples were here! Friends from Sac as well as friends here came over and we hung out and played Kareoke revolution (which was one of my KICK ASS birthday presents!! thanks Mako!! ) I also got a beautiful art book on Spirited Away..you gotta see it, its all glossy pages and hardbound and pretty-ful (thank you Vireo as well!)
I also got an UBER stack of burned episodes of PGSM!! Squeeeee! I cant wait to watch it all!! That and ninjadan is going to give me my present soon (which is a re-vamped computer. He can build her..he has the technology! faster...stronger!! muahahahhaa!!)
It just felt good to be surrounded by friends, singing, laughing and just plain having a great time. Thanks to everyone who came! And thank you to everyone who wishes me a happy birthday! I loves you's guys!!

Anywhooo....
I met up with Mattzilla (a college friend) during night classes and he showed off his Hellboy stone hand to me and we got to talking about the movie and stuffes. He suggested I try and be Hellboy (err, or Hellgirl ^^)
for Halloween. I found it to be a smashing idea! He even offered to let me borrow the hand, which by the way turned out really really awsome
I've been getting early B Day presents from friends on Gaia and also from the bf *huggles* he's going to make-over my caveman comp so I can finally work DECENTLY with open canvas and other art programs that I've been itching to try out X3 I cant wait. 1. What led to the decision that gargoyles do not traditionally use names?

It made them more culturally unique, for one. It also allowed them to take on their New York-based names later, which in turn made Goliath and Demona seem more apart from the others.

2. Why don't gargoyles (generally) kiss?

Kissing is a human custom. The gargoyle equivalent is the stroking of hair and/or brow ridges. In the case of Broadway and Angela in "The Journey," remember that Broadway has been exposed to a lot of modern pop culture, and Angela was raised by humans. In the case of Desdemona and Othello in "Legion," consider Coldstone's muddled state of mind. (Alternately, consider it as a mistake.)

That and I'm finding myself drawing Ilianna and Acuzio more and more and fleshing out their personas. I'm really glad at how they're coming out and all the links I got on information on gargoyles really helped (thank you to those I noted!) I'm focusing more on Ilianna's background currently more than Acuzio's. I've decided for her to be part of the Persian clan, but that she grew up in India. I'm having alot of fun sketching her in different Sari's and traditional outfits ^__^
After reading the little teasers placed on all her scrap pictures, I began doodling Midori, one of her new characters she debuted in the scraps section. Her attitide was just too cute and her demeanor made me draw up a couple sketches I plan on submitting sometime soon
I have alot on my plate so far drawing wise and college classes no top of that, but all the work is exciting me, so I'm pretty content.

Speaking of art, it seems I've taken over as the artist to undeadninjas, seeing that Valerie apparently quit due to the fact that she's moving to Germany soon. In other news, the BAAU BBQ was pretty awsome. I got to meet alot of different people, including VO (one of the admin gods of gaiaonline). Dan came along with me as well as Law (they both got MAAAJOR sunburn! XD ) and just chilled out. I spent most of it drawing in other peoples sketchbooks and reading comics while Dan chatted up the moderators and admins. Then we took Mad pics! Muahahahhaa!

I went to go visit my parents in Sac and got to hang with my sister. She's so cute. I'm flattered with the fact that she looks up to me and is sort of a shadow of my rather eccentric clothing tastes. I had a chance to relax, forget all about school and Sanfran woes and just busy myself trying and failing to kick ass in Mariokart against my sister
So anywho, I begged and begged to be able to take my litle sis to AX with me and my mother finally agreed, so I'm all stoked. If your going to AX, look for us, we'll be wearing our little mime outfits together on one of the days (I'll be the Demile black and white one and she'll be the choco mint green one)=3 That and in all honesty of all my skills in make-up, art and stuffes, I cant sew worth shit and I can never do anything cool with my hair, so I was all worried about working my hair into the curly mohawk Kozi has, but while in Sac at my house my sister tried to do it and it looked eerily similar...she was totally right on! It got me all excited, so I'll be taking a pretty bitchin hairdresser to AX as well *laughs*
Hmm, what else? Oh, concerning my Kozi cosplay it all seems to be set. I got the shoes (not as tall as I wanted ,but I want to be comfortable walking, not dying, the make-up (that includes false eyelashes,white powder and foundation,lipstick, eyeliner, but I still need the silver eyeshadow) the peacoat jacket (which I KNOW will be hot, its a COAT for chrissakes) the black pants, wich are girls pants and pretty fitted, but I cant help that *shrugs* The black undershirt I'll jack, err....I mean borrow from my boyfriend and I'm going to be heading back to Sac to pilfer one of my dad's ties to use.

In other news, I worked on my very first pic FULLY on tablet! [link] I'm getting the hang of this thing pretty well, although I cant draw a straight line to save my life It REALLY is easier on my hand, so its all good.
YAY! So Finally vacation rolls around and I'm spending it with my Dan Mmm! I'm glad we have these weeks to just relax and kick back after all that hard work. Here's hoping everything went alright grade-wise.
I also finished watching the ENTIRE Gargoyles series (Or at least the bulk of what I downloaded that I THINK is the whole series. The last episode sorta had that 'wrapped up finished' feeling to it). It really made alot of things make sense and answered questions to their backgrounds. I'm only sad the only gargoyle that made it back to the clan was Angela and no others for the guys T_T I really wanted Brooklyn to find someone, he is my favorite ^-^ If anyone has any extra info or interesting fanfic places I can check out, leave me a message, I'm curious to hear everyone else's opinon or tips on the end or any other episodes I may have missed!
