Alot of people often think being a pilot is cool and high wages and such...
but not many of them really think about how much sacrifice that the pilot made before they actually get into that nice airline uniforms and walking very proudly with the stripes on their shoulders.

I'm not saying that other jobs don't need sacrifice or what so ever...but i'm just wondering is there any other job that require you to give up like alot of things like your family, your love one, your currently high pay secure job and maybe even leaving your home town, to a place, to a company where we aren't similar with and double even triple the work pressure?

Just when you think your family is okay with it meanwhile you discover your love one isn't too happy about it and maybe even risking of leaving you.

You might ask...why? why do you want to be a pilot? it's expensive and hard to find a secure job with high wages and you have to return earlier than most jobs in the work force.

My answer to you, my friends, and probably alot of pilots out there also agree with me, it's all about passion and love with flying. We enjoy the freedom of flight, the freedom of looking down while we are cruising at 35,000 feet and the challenge that we get every second of our flight times.

Is it worth it? Oh yes, I think so...

Hi Everyone
How's your summer going?

Just recently I encounter something very interesting and I want to know what will you do if this happens to you...

Basically you have a job, a nice pay job, oh let's see you are getting pay at $12.40 per hour, it's an okay job, not your dream job and the job does not really get you anywhere

One day, you found out within your company in another department a position has opened up and it's the job or related job that you been wanted to get and you know you will enjoy it alot and such

However there is one problem..in order for you to get this job, of course you have to leave your current position and transfer over at the same time, you discovered that the job salary is actually lower than your current one.. at $10.40 per hour

So, you are stuck, you don't know what to do...your currently job is higher pay but it's not really want you to do but it will help you in the future...
meanwhile the open position is lower pay but it's something that you want in the beginning and it's a job that you know will for sure enjoy doing also it probably also give increase your opportunities to move on to a much bigger corporate company.

Here is the question...will you sacrifice your salary to get a job that you actually will enjoy doing?

An exciting line-up of summer festivals awaits fun and culture seekers in Vancouver this season. As the temperature rises, the artistic and cultural focus of the city shifts outdoors with festivals and events happening almost every week from May through September. Audiences can experience everything from waterfront performances of Shakespeare to jazz, folk music and fireworks.

Vancouver International Children's Festival
May 14 - 21
Packed with music, theatre, dance, storytelling, puppetry, circus arts and lots more, the Vancouver International Children's Festival embodies the spirit and endless curiosity of children. Now celebrating its 30th year, this year's festival presents great shows like the "Jabali African Acrobats", a trio of puppet shows with the ancient art of the "Vietnamese Water Puppets" and even a marionette theatre. Tickets sell out quickly so be sure to book early.

Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival
May 31 - September 23
With open-air tents in Vanier Park set against a natural backdrop of sea, sky and mountains, visitors and locals can enjoy four of the Bard's performances this summer: The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar and Timon of Athens. Tickets start at $17 CAD for matinees with performances Tuesday through Sunday in June, July and August.

Special events include "Bard-B-Q and Fireworks" (a play and BBQ followed by Celebration of Light fireworks - July 25 and 28, August 1 and 4), "Celebrating Red & White" (a play plus a wine tasting - August 18), "A Merry Evening of Opera" (Vancouver Opera Orchestra and UBC Opera Ensemble in concert - August 20, 27 and September 3) and for the kids, "Young Shakespeareans" (workshops for youth aged 8 to 18, July and August).

Vancouver International Jazz Festival
June 22 - July 1
For 10 musical days, the TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival brings some of music's edge-pushers, mainstayers and international ambassadors in a city sweep that keeps the focus on the music and vitality of Canada's West Coast. Each day from noon to the wee hours, jazz of all styles and stripes resonates from venues across the city. This year's ticketed events include headliners Sonny Rollins, Chris Botti, Cesaria Evora and Holly Cole. There are also several free events. The full festival line-up will be announced on April 26.

Vancouver Folk Music Festival
July 13 - 15
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival characterizes the laid back attitude and style of the West Coast. Now in its 30th year, the festival brings some of the finest folk and roots musicians from around the world to Jericho Beach - a stunning outdoor venue complete with sunsets, food vendors and an art market. A schedule of performers will be available in June, but tickets are on sale now. It's a good idea to get a full weekend pass so you can come and go as you please.

HSBC Celebration of Light Fireworks Competition
July 25 and 28, August 1 and 4
The HSBC Celebration of Light is Vancouver's annual international fireworks competition and brings together talented pyro-technicians from three countries (Spain, Canada and China this year). Teams light up the sky over Vancouver's downtown core and English Bay with an amazing show choreographed to music. These incredible displays draw crowds of more than 1.5 million people over the four-night celebration. Be sure to get to the beach early to reserve your plot of sand, pull up a blanket and enjoy a picnic during this free show. Best viewing locations are at English Bay, Kitsilano Beach, Vanier Park, Jericho Beach and West Vancouver. All performances begin at 10pm. (Don't forget to tune into 101.1 FM for the music simulcast).

It's amazing how time really flies...thinking back...it has been a year and about 8 days since my Cathay Pacific exams and interview...
The moment of my first step into Cathay City, I can still remember it very clearly. I don't think I will ever forget that moment... Ever since that experience, I have learned a lot both in life and aviation industry and tomorrow I'm once again being challenge not by Cathay Pacific Airway but BCIT Airline and Flight Operation Commercial Pilot Interview.

I remember once a pilot said to me, "There will be never be a prefect pilot in this world" and I asked "Why?" He said, "That's the coolest thing about it! Because every flight is a new experience!" and he's right. Every time I fly or when I get a chance to fly, it's a new experience for me. I flew in really bad condition weather to extremely nice weather and every time there are new challenges waiting for me.

If I have to say that I'm not nerves right now, I'm actually lying to you. Since the moment, that I know I have an interview upcoming up. I actually have tough time sleeping and thinking what are they going to ask, maybe something similar to Cathay Pacific or maybe something totally different but whatever it is, I'm up for the challenge!

It has been a while I wore my pilot uniform and I can't remember when was the last time, but I know it's in my wardrobe waiting for me to take it out once again!

I wonder how will my performance be tomorrow? good? bad? okay? hmm.....

There is one person who I really want to phone tonight...I don't know why but everytime I think of that person, I feel much more calmer and relax...
At the same time, I do not want to bother that person because that person is busy with school at the moment...
Oh well...it's all good

Well there are only so many things I can do for tonight...clean up my uniform and tie, shine my shoes and check if there is paperwork I should be consider to bring along tomorrow.

Last but not least, my favorite aviation quote, "One of my great joys in life is being a pilot. There is a great sense of freedom in soaring through the sky. You get a different perspective up there. Seeing things that aren't so apparent from the ground."

I was able to find one girl who I can swear that I'm willing to give-up anything just for her...
Throughout out the whole time I think that I probably can't find anyone else to replace her...until today....
This girl who I met seem to able to change my life...even though we just know each other...
maybe it's just a crush on her...but i feel very relax, yet nervous but fun and enjoying the time both moments of photography and window-shopping with her...
I know it's very wrong to even start feeling with her because she has a boyfriend already but I don't know...
She's telling me how she and her boyfriend are having communication problems yet she's still willing to stay with him because she wants him to be happy...
Yet I feel her sadness and confusedness in her...I wanted to help her...I want her to be happy...I wanted to there with her to ensure she is happy...yet I can't
I wanted to tell her how i feel toward her but maybe it's a bit too early since we just know each other and I haven't able to completely understand her yet nor know what she is thinking.......*sigh*

It was an awesome day today because I finally get to see a friend of mine who I haven't seem for 7 months since children fest...
It was really nice to see her...
Everything was prefect but not knowing my bad habit for having my camera on top of my camera bag and it on my left shoulder...
I knew it's a bad habit yet I did not know what's going to happen that made me regret it majorally...
So ya, like I said before I had my camera on my left shoulder meanwhile I had BBT drink on my right hand...
then suddenly my cellphone rang because I have a drink on my right hand so I decided to use my left hang to get the cell on my right side on the belt
but not knowing when i did that...the camera just slip down my arm, off my arm and on to the floor... >.<"
the len hood had a major crack and broke...my top LCD panel & another button covers came off and there is an approx. 1.5cm crack near the shutter button...I was very lucky that the camera still work just fine... =\
so now i have take my camera in on wednesday afternoon after i take photos of the arrival of the Airbus A380.

haha...i'm serious this...I really did mean SOS (save our ship) but of course this time, it's not a ship. It's a boat.
as most of you probably know, I am one of the official photographers at the Taiwanese Culture Fest
and today I was assigned to be at Plaza of Nation.

Everything went pretty good...I started to take photos as soon as I arrived at Plaza of Nation at 1:10pm
later on, my photography friend, William and I decided to go on a boat to go out and take dragon boat racing photos.
It was pretty cool to be on a boat and taking photos at the same time. It was an unique experience till the end of second race.
My boat, total of 4 people, 3 photographers and 1 operator, decided to sink by the bow just moment after the second race.
All of the sudden, we all stick our cameras as high as we can, we started to scream for near by help.
We lost all power and pump and we were already about an inch under the water...and continue to slowly sink downward.
During that moment, I was willing to give my life to basically save my Nikon D70s DSLR camera!!! lol

At first, no one realized what was happening to us till they realized that they could not see the boat we are in.
Next, there was an near by boat also w/ 3 photographers, another boat with 2 TCF staff, and 2 dragonboats quickly come to the resuce lol
It was quite interesting cuz we were all of the sudden the main focus on the dragon boat show lol..."4 guys stuck on a sinking boat"...lol

First thing we did was to transfer the weight due or else the boat will continue to sink...
So TCF staff transfered William and another photographer to their boat meanwhile myself and the operator main onboard and using buckets to scoop the water out on the boat as quickly as possible.
Also we transfer all our gears to another boat to keep dry. Unfortunately, my bag was somewhat wet at the bottom because I didn't lift it up fast quickly as the water was coming in.

Shortly afterward, the boat was back up on the water again. So the operator decided to try if the engine is okay or not...to our surprise, it works lol
however the pump remained out of service, therefore i was continuing to scoop water lol; it was quite fun

Since the engine is working just fine...we decided to return to dock as quickly as possible
So we tied two boats together as a support and head back to the dock.

Once I got to the dock, I started to think about the sinking...then i realize yes it is the overweight caused the problem overall it's not just because of the 2 photographers at the bow just before the sinking...it was the speaker at the bow also...cuz the speaker weights at least 20 to 30 lbs or so
so the total weight of the photographers probably is i'm guessing around 260lbs...plus the weight of the speaker 30lbs, that makes 290lbs
plus the gravity pull when we hit the big wave caused by another boat w/ photographers on our left and the dragon boats cuz we were behind them...
which means the weight appox. 330lbs or more...which it's too much for the bow...therefore when it came back down and hit the water, it went in deeper than it should.

In short, it was an experience because I never think I will be in a sinking boat/ship/yacht again in my life. lol
Also the fact that I was willing to give my life to save my camera. LOL
and of course most of you think i'm crazy
cuz of today, i just made my summer 06 a 10 out of 10 LOL

the most interesting thing i ever seem....

an article from Google News

A Florida woman who said her 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich bore the image of the Virgin Mary will be getting a lot more bread after the item sold for $35,814.79 on eBay.

image [link]

GoldenPalace.com, an online casino, confirmed it placed the winning bid, and company executives said they were willing to spend "as much as it took" to own the 10-year-old half-sandwich with a bite out of it.

"It's a part of pop culture that's immediately and widely recognisable," spokesman Monty Kerr told The Miami Herald.

"We knew right away we wanted to have it."

Photos posted on eBay show what can be viewed as a woman's face emblazoned on the sandwich, a bite taken out of one end. Bidding closed on Monday.

In a statement, GoldenPalace CEO Richard Rowe said he planned to use the sandwich to raise money for charity.

Mr Kerr and Steve Baker, CEO of GoldenPalace's management company, Cyberworld Group, flew to south Florida on Monday to make arrangements for a sandwich handover from its owner, Diana Duyser.

"I would like all people to know that I do believe that this is the Virgin Mary, Mother of God," Ms Duyser, a work-from-home jewellery designer, said in the casino's statement.
AdvertisementAdvertisement

The online auction site initially pulled the sale, saying it didn't post joke items.

The page was restored after the company was convinced that Ms Duyser would deliver on the bid, said eBay spokesman Hani Durzy.

Ms Duyser said she took a bite after making the sandwich 10 years ago and saw a face staring back at her. She put the sandwich in a clear plastic box with cotton balls and kept it on her night stand. She said the sandwich had never sprouted a spore of mold.

It’s quite amazing that 5 years had past by very quickly. I learned many things throughout those years, from perspective of life to communication skills. I like to thank you all the teachers who have been supporting and encouraging me especially teachers who are trying to fail me so I can stay at John Oliver. Also I like to take this chance to say thank you to KL, KC, KT, BT, JA, AB and Jackie, my gf who I have been together for two years. In addition, I like to say a big thank you to Mr. McGeough and Mr. Lee for accepting me into the mini school; without the mini school program, I don’t think I will ever get a chance to do all the cool things, like traveling down to Ashland and skiing down Manning Park. Last but not least, I’m proud to be the Grads of 2005. I’ll be back!
