Managed to spend enough time to catch up on deviations and reply to everyone. Convention season is done for the year so now I have some time to catch up on things. And by catch up on things I mean waste entirely too much time playing Aion.

I'm looking forward to next summer though. Plans to be even bigger and bettar.

_{Finishing something always feels good, no matter how much ulcer ridden stress leads up to it. The photoshoot was a success, a really fun day, except for the guy playing jesus. But that's another story.

It was my first really "professional" commission in that I was giving a project and then a cheque at the end of it xD. I couldn't have done it without all the help from *Ayatchi-Kun and ~lascabre . I'm forever indebted to you both.

_{Animethon is done for the year, and we happily had a good success. Every year we grow a little more and learn a little more. I'm always encouraged when I'm left excited for next year.

I have a few new pieces left over to take pictures of and update my gallery with. Unfortunately none of my blood splatter eyepatches left which were my favourite. D: I'll be doing some more up hopefully soon, so I can get them on the website and take some to Bellerose if we get the OK for a table.

My head wants to explode with ideas for next year, hopefully I'll manage to scribble them all down. x3

_{Sometimes its hard not to be overwhelmed. It's so easy to look at yourself and think 'I'm old enough, why aren't I good at everything by now?'. There are so many things in the world I want to learn and be GOOD at, sometimes its hard not to feel like you're running out of time.

But sense and patience kicks in, like someone taking a bat to the back of your knees. You can't be anywhere but where you are, afterall.

And right now, I'm surrounded by a lot of talented, good people who are each wonderful at the special things they do.

Peace also comes in knowing, as artists, I'm sure they have all felt the same way at some point.

So rather than be overwhelmed, I try to be grateful, and look forward to all the things I have yet to learn and master.

Trust me, I am stubborn enough to get there one day.

_{Unexpected things happen, and they usually happen fast.

We moved again, but this time because the market is much more friendly for renters and we couldn't refuse moving into a much nicer two bedroom for about the same money as we were paying for a one bedroom. This means we have a studio again! A studio with a door to shut cats out!

Summer is always the busiest time for me and this will prove no exception. Black Tea (and good friends Fantasy's Edge owned by *Ayatchi-Kun) will be making its debut appearance at Animethon 16 in the vendor's hall this year. We will have a selection of gothic & lolita accessories, maybe some clothing, as well as clothing and accessories for Asian Ball-joint dolls. There will also be many other goodies offered by Fantasy's Edge to suit your geeky and anime-loving needs.

I'm also adding a promotion for this year: Any commissions received at Animethon 16 will be 20% off. A 50% deposit will be due with the commission form. That means you have to drop by and see us in person!

I have a large commission coming up for a photoshoot in late August that is going to eat most of my life, but September should be nice and clear for some relaxing.

_{I left and it was snowing so bad they had to de-ice our plane, I come back and the air conditioner needs to be on. This place can be wierd sometimes.

I just spent the last week on a sudden trip home to spend with my gramma and my family. She's been having trouble for a while now, but has been mostly up, vibrant, and stubborn as ever. A week ago she caught bronchitis, which lead to pneumonia, and kidney failure. When we skyped her for mother's day she cried a bit as she asked me to visit, when I saw her a few days ago she could only half open her eyes and moan a bit to acknowledge I was there.

It's a beautiful and horrible thing to watch someone die. I'm only thankful that it was peaceful, that she was surrounded by so many people that loved her as we can all only hope for.

My gramma had been struggling a lot with the idea of dying. She frequently asked my mom and others how to do 'it'. The day she went into the hospital she was very ill but she told my mom 'I figured 'it' out, but it's a secret'. 'Can you tell me?' My mom asked her. 'I can't tell you, because there are no words for 'it'.

So she figured 'it' out, what all of us need to figure out in the end I suppose.

Not a lot of people are close to their grandparents, I don't think. My gramma was the only grandparent I had for most of my life. She was as beautiful and loving as she was stubborn and frustrating, but she meant more to me than I'm sure she ever knew.

Hug someone you love today. Go outside and sit in the sun or take a walk through the rain. Remember each day we move forward, each of us trying to find our own answer to 'it'.

_{I'm looking forward to the snow being gone. I'm ready to see some green and have my windows open without freezing to death. I am not, however, looking forward to all the work that needs to be done for this summer/fall. It's going to be a busy but hopefully rewarding year.

Having regular stitch n' bitch sessions with *Ayatchi-Kun and ~lascabre is helping me keep motivated. I finished off an old project and am hoping to start on more inventory soon. Old and new stuff to come.

I'm also working on a pair of knitted hats for a very good friend. She has adorable twin dolls (SOOM Io's if you're so inclined to know the mold). They have requested a pair of stripey square toques.

Sinuses are all stuffed to hell with another infection but I'm hoping that will pass by the time there are flowers around to be enjoyed.

Work is also coming along well on the website. I can't say enough how amazing ~lascabre is for all her hard work in making me an amazingly beautiful and functional website. I'll be officially 'opening' it as soon as there is a functional order form and more product, but it's there for you to go snoop around should you be inclined.

_{January and I promised myself it would be time to organize and inventory heading into the new year. My sewing area is half set up, I have a cutting table now weee.. just have to get all of my fabric cleared out of the corner so I can sew by the window.

I'm pretty caught up in making doll clothes and accessories right now. It's just a lot of fun to work with minimal materials and finish things in much less time than it would take to make them my size (in some cases.. scale knitting takes forever).

Not that I don't have grand plans for other things.. *taps fingers* yes.. plans..

There's not much else to this entry besides a project update so I can keep track for myself. And I was tired of looking at my old entry.

_{Yeah, I'm tired of staring at my old entry.

New deviation up today, one of a few in the last week. Managed to finish the final design of a doll-sized toque and took a few more pictures of Ghost with his new wigs and eyes. Much loving on my girlfriend for the early christmas gifts.

Winter has settled in at last, lots of lovely snow out now. Last night it was snowing perfectly, that big fluffy stuff with individual flakes that you think of in the movies. I've wanted to take Ghost out for some pictures but it has just been -way- too cold. So cold I got frostbite on my finger from having it out of my glove for two minutes while trying to plug in the car.

Going to be working a lot through christmas, but that helps the time pass. Though I have to admit I'm a little sick of hearing carols as the mall started playing them at 12 AM Nov 1st.

Not much more to go on about. Keeping myself occupied and playing more ragnarok online than I should.

And edit a day later, our white skin vamp miho heads came today.. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE}

_{Feels good to be home, if not so much to be back at the grind of work. My feet have been bothering me a lot lately so standing is never quite so fun, but I'm sure I'll get used to it again in the next couple weeks.

Or I hope so anyway.

The trip to my parent's was fun, great to see people I haven't seen in years. Time starts to go really fast the older you get, it's a little disconcerting sometimes.

I posted some pictures I took while I was away, as well as the first photo shoot I did with Ghost out there.

Apparently it snowed while I was gone, but it's all melted now. A really mild start to winter, should I be grateful or paranoid?

_{It's been a really busy week. On the scale of one to ten, I would say fuck it there's no way that's fitting on a scale of one to ten.

This entry turned out really damn long, so taking a cue from `taeliac I'm going to throw in some of my recent random favourites to at least make it a little more fun to look at.

Aside from working, most of the week was spent making inventory for Bellerose. Unfortunately I made some new pieces but didn't get to take pictures of them before they sold. Planning to take pictures at 7 in the morning when the sun doesn't rise til 9 doesn't always work in your favour.

However! I will be reproducing the designs I made and taking pictures of them as soon as I can.

Bellerose, despite almost not happening because of being horribly let down by someone, did happen. I made enough to cover my cab fair to and from the event which is to say I made around $90. People remembered me from Animethon which was really great. Right now establishing my brand and getting my designs recognized is more important than making profit.

Also at Bellerose I got to attend my first doll meet. That was probably the highlight of my day. There's a lot more local people into dolls than I could have imagined and it was really great to put some faces to adorable dolls I already knew. Ghost had a good time, despite being quiet and anti-social for the most part. He's also tiny compared to most other dolls, it was quite amusing considering I thought he was big.

I am currently restructuring my business under a new brand, a name that I had wanted to go with before. Black Tea will be the new name for my clothing and costume creations, and because blacktea.everythingcom was taken I have set up my domain at blackteacreations.com.

We're going to hopefully buy a car this evening, we're looking at a hyundai. Something inexpensive, gas friendly, and reliable. This will be our first car, so the whole process is exciting, nerve rending, tiring, annoying, back to exciting. I just really want it to be over.

Aside from all of that, on monday they had to inspect and treat our building for cockroaches. We live in the freakin' arctic and yet somehow someone brought those damn bastards into our building. So everything had to be moved away from the walls and all our of cupboards had to be emptied. It was like bad flashbacks to a few months ago getting our kitchen redone.

_{Man, either I'm missing something or I'm totally daft this morning.

I can't think of any simple way to search for clubs or communities on DA. I've searched through images various ways and come up with a few clubs like BJD UK and BJD Spain but I live in neither of those countries.

So am I totally off track?

The only way I've found communities in the past is through other people's journals. I even google searched and came up with much the same stuff.

So if anyone knows of a community for doll owners/photographers/whathaveyou on DA I'd love it if you threw something my way.}

_{My doll arrived. I don't want to say -finally- arrived cause really he got here super fast and in time for my birthday so I'm more than pleased. So from now on you will be helplessly spammed by beautiful pictures of him and his lovely butt.

He really does have a nice butt.

He was a gift from my girlfriend, probably one of the best birthday gifts I've ever received. I'm going to bring him out for sushi tonight. :3

_{Yes, drink your tea, don't breathe it.

Quick update before I run off to work. I have managed to get -some- things done in the bits of time I have left over at the end of the day. I unpacked a few more boxes and threw a bunch of stuff out (that counts, right?) and I did get to the fabric store to buy material for my own winter cloak and the cloak that I'm making for the store.

I'm still trying to look for the scarf so I can finish it, the thing is being stubborn and crafty in hiding in things yet unpacked.

I DID work on a helmet cover and save for hemming it, it is almost done. Once I get the first one finished and the OK that it looks all right, I can finish the rest. So glad to be done with these. Nevar again.

I watched AVPR, quite enjoyed it to be honest.

Also read Coraline by Neil Gaiman, as always one of the best books I've ever read.

Fall is in full swing, it's warm and gorgeous out. Next week it could be snowing, so I'm enjoying every damn minute of it.

Oh yeah, I also managed to finish writing something. I may post it, if I feel like disturbing the populace.}

_{Back is bothering me this morning, but that's from working on my feet all week. I'll drink some tea and take some drugs and hope that works itself out.

Yay for some days off tomorrow.

I'll be going to the fabric store, that's always fun, and detrimental to my credit card. But this year I'm wanting to make myself a winter cloak instead of buying a new winter jacket, so I will justify that I am putting the money out that way instead. I'm also going to be picking up some fabric to make the cloak that I'm getting to display at the store, pretty excited for that.

Part of me doesn't think I'm good enough for that, but I try to beat that part down with a stick.

Been drawing a bit, have to take a picture of my petticoat and get it posted as well as rework my skirt a bit before I take a picture of it. (I say a bit, like I'm not going to tear off all of the gathers on the bottom, re-hem both sides and re-sew it back on)

_{Lotsa thinking going on in that small squishy grey thing between my ears. Seriously though, when you get older you tend to evaluate yourself and where you are much more often than you did as a kid and I've been thinking a lot lately.

I've always wanted to go back to school, it's just a given. I don't like leaving things unfinished and that was one of the biggest things I've abandoned in my life.

So I've learned about a program at the University here, it sounds really obscure to get a BSc in Human Ecology as a textiles and clothing major. But that's exactly what I want to do. Basically it's a fancy University term for fashion and costume design.

It's five years out of my life that I have to commit (1 year getting prepped for it and 4 for the actual degree), but I think in two years that is where I hope I will be headed. 2011, woo!

I just really want to refine the skills I already have, and these courses are really designed to give you a strong background in textile history, clothing history, pattern drafting, fabric dying and painting, clothing merchandising, basically all the good stuff.

_{Animethon done, overall for our first convention selling things I think it went rather successfully. I had a really great response towards the eyepatches, I would see people walking around the con with them on, it was very encouraging to know that people appreciated all my hard work.

So thank you again to everyone who showed us your support!

I've got a lot of pictures to take of new things and a website that needs to get updated asap. Unfortunately I didn't get to take any pictures at the con itself, but hopefully I can snag some from a friend and share them.

Now there is an event on October 25th that I have just learned of and I'm in early scheduling arrangements to see if it would be possible for Adastria to attend.

_{So I'm back, officially? Yes I had contraband internet for a while as they hadn't disconnected it from the previous tenant but it is officially our internet now and some of our boxes are unpacked.

Now only ten gajillion more boxes to go.

We have a new kitten, his name is Thundercat Mojojojo the First (or 'big guy' or 'thunthun' or 'thunnybunny' ). I will have some pictures fixed up and posted of him as soon as I get photoshop reinstalled. He's adorable, but can be a terror as he has a love for talking, singing, and whining especially at four in the morning.

Sewing news, really haven't gotten a lot done since the move. I'm currently making up a pattern for my tulle petticoat and I've got some more WWII helmet covers that I need to cut out.

Got my hair done today, I'm pretty much going to call it 'lolita style'. Sidesweep bangs and loose curls, it turned out pretty cute I think. (Also dyed it black.)

_{I thought I'd seek some advice, sorry about all of the entries lately.

The skirt I'm going to be making for my kurorori outfit is going to be just over the knee with a gathered frill along the bottom. Similar to the petticoat prototype, but the gather will likely be wider.

Now my question lies in using a six-gored (panelled) skirt pattern or a full circle pattern. I have the capacity to draft either of these patterns, and I know I'm already capable of making a full circle.

I want a skirt that's going to stay in place rather well, the problem with elastic waists is they tend to shift and droop and I don't want to be constantly worried about my skirt being even all day.

With the gored skirt I'm worried about it taking too much time, as that's something I'm very much running out of. I would make it with a waist band and zipper.

So I leave it up to scholarly debate while I finish the shirt and other things.}

_{We're moving at the end of the month, so I'm trying to get started cleaning up, organizing, and packing some things. Sometimes it amazes me how I can be so organized in some aspects of my life and so not in others. I'm going to blame lack of time and money and space.

So I'm starting with fabric, and though I try to keep a good mental inventory of what I have lying around, there are always surprises when I start digging. I'm trying to get everything set up on cardboard rolls or hangars so it doesn't get ruined.

The hallway is so full of bags of fabric right now you can hardly fit down it.

Eight meters of lavendar/white faux fur (elven winter cloak when I have the time), ten meters of striped wool (another cloak someday), folded piles of silver sheer, silver satin, purple brocade, burgundy wool, grey wool, brown faux suede, twills, interfacing, lace.. oh my.

So I might have a little bit of a fabric hoard going on. I'm a fabric dragon.

_{Our apartment building has had three fires in one year, the third of which occurred today just before noon. I really can't wait to move in July. A whole suite on the 19th floor burned out, you could see smoke billowing out and the firefighters flooding it with water. I also passed them cleaning out debris later today, including burned up furniture and melted bikes.

Thankfully the fire was well above us, not like the one time when it was in the garbage room and filled everything with smoke. It was just scary, I need to live somewhere more quiet.

Yesterday a friend and I were running errands about town and ended up in this high end fabric shop, it was full of imported fabrics, boiled wools, silks.. embroidered bridal fabric for $460/m. Somehow it was like entering some kind of holy land, you felt dirty just being there. It was inspiring being around such beautiful things, though. At least I know where to go if I want to make myself a $5000 cloak.

Projects are still coming along for animethon as is the planning for the Artist's Alley.

_{Though it took much longer than anticipated I have finished the petticoat for my kuro lolita outfit that I will be wearing at Animethon. All I can say is that it turned out better than I thought it would, I always remain amazed when my own designs work.

Snow has melted and nice weather seems to be upon us at last, I hope I can say it's gone for good but we really can't say that until after May.

I found this awesome East German officer's coat at work the other day for super cheap (it wreaks of mothballs and is well loved), but I'm either going to tailor it for Julie or tear it apart and make a pattern for her out of it. Of course that project is something that is going to happen in the far distant future after August.

At least I don't have to leave the house today, I'm just going to huddle inside and work on things that need to get finished.

I've volunteered to help organize at the Artist's Alley at animethon this year [link] . So i have to keep all that straight while I work on stuff for my own table. Perhaps my plate is heaping a little high but it's all work that I enjoy (thus far).

If you are a local artist or artisan I strongly recommend you sign up as soon as possible if you haven't already, cause we're going to have a super awesome fantastic time this year.

In other news I just watched Boondock Saints and that is one amazing movie. If you don't mind violence and cross dressing, I would go rent it. Also my favourite new music album of the moment is the Sun & Moon by the Bravery, I just can't get enough of listening to this thing.

I haven't been doing too much lately, my sinus infection has crawled back in full force and started a never ending mucus rave in my head, but I have been to the doctor and am now putting pills down my throat and spray up my nose.

In the meean time, I have kidnapped my friend's serger and will be learning how to work with that beast for the first time. No more zig-zagging for me! (well at least not as much)

I will be charging forward with designs for our table in August and finishing off the other gifts I've promised to people that are taking longer than they should.

We have a confirmed appearance at Animethon 15 in the Artist's Alley. So now, official panic time can set in.

I found one of our camera chargers, it was apparently left at my parent's place while we were vacationing last October and neither of us noticed until now. Way to fail on everyone's part, but it will be sent back in the mail soon and finally there will be pictures to be had.

Now it's time to pimp some awesome stuff, two things that really made my day.

First and foremost is a request I had made from *Ayatchi-Kun . She asked for some way to thank me for making the background for her, which totally was not necessary, but I opted to feed my weakness for kitty boys. So here he is, and I absolutely love him. I was expecting a pencil sketch and she comes up with this amazing piece of art. Thank you so much again. I'll need to think up a name for him. x3

And a really fantastic tutorial that I woke up to this morning created by the ever talented `taeliac . Just last night I was talking with ~darkballad about finishing a cloak for her that requires boning to support the collar and this sets me in the right direction. It's funny how things fall into place sometimes. So check out a great tutorial on how to cut and cap your own steel and wire boning.

If everything works out favourably and they decide to welcome artisan crafts into their heart as a type of art, Adastria might get its first taste of the world.

Needless to say I'm pretty excited, frightened, and well a whole lot of other things at the same time. If we do get accepted there's a lot of work that needs to be done before August and as much as I wish I could have a costume done by then I'm not sure I'll be able to fit one in between designing and putting together product for our table.

On the other hand I -really- want to be able to put something together for myself, because then I'll be a walking display wherever I go.

Our camera chargers are still missing in action so I haven't been able to take pictures of my new patches and headdress yet, kinda frustrated but I'll just have to do one biiig update once that gets settled.

As soon as the snow clears up and everything's a little less brown I also hope to get outside and take some photos of my costumes to add into everything as I just have accessories up for the moment.

Work is coming along on Adastria's website which is well in the hands of

. I'm really looking forward to seeing this come together.

I wanted to have some new eye-patch designs up today but the camera decided to die in the middle of me taking pictures and I cannot for the life of me find the battery charger. The other camera is also dead and I also cannot find its charger.

They've finally finished putting in our cupboards and painting up all the holes they left in the walls. Mostly this means I've been able to put away all the kitchen bits that have been sitting in the living room and finally been able to move shit off of my sewing table.

I've been too sick for the most part to do any major project work for the past few days, kind of frustrating being that I've finally got my space back, but I'm looking forward to getting stuff done in the future.

Now if I could just take pictures of it.

I'm also looking forward to it being spring, I'm tired of this winter stuff as I always am. It's been rather mild to say the least except for the few weeks where walking outside meant death, but I still want to sit on my balcony and watch thunderstorms, or go to the park and sit on the grass. No more snow.

That's about all I have to rant about right now.

I have a job now, yey. It's a great environment and I like the people I'm working with so I'm pretty optimistic at this point.

Still working away on my commission scarf, most of which I get done on the bus. I have a lot of projects sort of milling about in my head right now but none of them stepping up as something I -really- want to work on. So I keep scribbling them down in my notebook, eventually I'll just have to put them in order and force myself to go through them.

There is supposed to be a sale at the fabric store starting tomorrow, I have no money to buy anything but I know I'll probably pick up some ribbon and lace for more loli headdresses, possibly some elastic for eye patches as well.

The local SCA chapter here is holding a dinner next month but it's far too short of notice for me to have outfits ready for myself and my partner. Now that I know they're around, however, I'm looking forward to designing some stuff and being ready for next time.

Now I am blessedly unemployed at this time and do not have to leave my apartment, save for an errand I do need to run in the next two days which I am not looking forward to.

The heat in our place isn't working too well, however, or if it is its just so cold everything is being sucked out the windows. I have a scarf commission that I've been trying to finish by this weekend but knitting in this cold is a whole new world of pain. As much as I keep trying to drink tea like its going out of style to keep warm and huddling under my blanket, I can't knit under there

. I need to devise myself some form of blanket and pillow fort with a space heater inside.

Not really much to go on about except ranting. Only about 27,000 more stitches to go on the scarf haha. I'm looking forward to having it done so I can work on some other things, namely things that I can hopefully start selling for monies.

and I'm pretty happy with it, I like how the embroidery turned out on the front, though it was a struggle to get it looking nice at first.

The pattern still needs a lot of work, things just aren't matching up as symmetrically as I'd like, but I'm going to fight with that on another day.

There's a work in progress shot of the pieces before I put them together in the scraps area keeping everyone else there company.

Now it's all about the knitting. I was well into my gift scarf but decided to remake it as I wasn't happy with the width.
