First off, the event lacked an online schedule showing panels and such so I thought there wouldn't be any. This was false. At badge pickup, we received delightful newspaper-style programs with clearly labeled maps and lists of events. The panels my husband and I went to were actually very well presented with lots of fascinating information shared. The down-side to the panels was simply room size. It felt like the rooms were bedroom-sized at best with each one crammed full to the point many people were stuck standing all around the room. I was lucky to get a seat and I guarded it like a desert creature guards their waterhole, lol.

The venue, a Seatac hotel, had a much more logical layout than Kumoricon's scattered design. The bright and lively hotel spaces helped make up for the cramped panel rooms somewhat and food was available in the hotel, not blocks away. I still would like to see it moved to an actual convention center to help with the cramped issue. It would also make it easier to get to since having the airport right there causes some traffic issues.

Costumes were a huge attraction in themselves with a huge array of styles and it seemed every demographic was represented. There were lots of costume supplies in the vendor hall, which was NOT in a dark, smelly parking garage...YAY! But, the prices were a bit too high and I ended up not spending a dime, though I wanted to get a number of cool items. The art show was fascinating, with not just 2D works, but 3D crafts like steampunk-style weapons made from candlesticks and unidentifiable things that lit up and spun, including some of the 2D art! Again, even the prints were expensive so I settled for just looking.

The major issue I had with the con was parking. The hotel had very limited parking for the size of the con and though the website claimed it would be $10/day which is still quite high, we ended up paying $12 for just a few hours! Another issue was the fact many events were additional costs. For a first-time con, I don't think limiting events with added costs is a good idea, but since many sold out anyway, I guess I'm in the minority on that. Still, I would've like to have attended the concerts and tea party/fashion show had they not been extra.

All in all, it was a very nice con compared to my last one, though it really isn't worth the 3-day pass, at least not until they find a better location. I think they made out well, considering they had a much larger attendance than expected, with passes selling out and such, so hopefully they'll take the hint and pick a larger venue for next year. If Seattle is too pricey, there's a lovely convention center just down the road from me in Lynnwood, hint hint, lol.

Hope that is an indepth enough review of SteamCon for all of you. If not, just comment with questions and I'll answer them as best I can. I probably will go again next year, though I hopefully will have a less thrown-together costume with a cool prop or two.

If our financial security wasn't on such thin ice I'd probably jump on it... yeah I'm a bit crazy, but anyone who has had to scan a fully-shaded pencil drawing in 3 or more pieces and somehow stitch it together knows why I would, lol. I just finished a wicked looking two-headed wingless dragon that blows most of my previous dragon drawings out of the water and I can't show you guys . I will try to photo it, but I have a feeling it won't look right. I'll link here if and when it is up.

I mean seriously, they had the expo hall and artist alley in the parking garage!!! The art show was a joke with 75% of the space unused at all and though a few pieces were ok, they mostly looked like 3 yr olds did them (and I'm insulting the 3 yr olds with that comment). I did manage to spend money at it on a really cool CD called Disko Warp (some of the tracks are on Zune so do check them out) and some buttons, but that was the highlight of the event. The panels I went to were run by people who were either snobs, morons, or both. Also, everytime my husband and I tried to get to a specific location we were constantly told not to go this way or that and most of the elevators were 'not to be used by the con'. This lack of organized and proper layout caused us to throw our hands up and leave disgusted. After the first day we decided to check out of our hotel the next day, see one panel since I had met a friend the first day, then basically drive home. We stopped at a falls that was ruined by a paper plant - Winette Falls I think, and the End of the Oregon Trail which was shutting down after that day (not sure if it was shutting down permanently, but it had that vibe). We also got pulled over while heading home, but luckily the officer just gave us a warning. I'm not sure if we were still in Oregon at the time, but considering our experience with the state overall it wouldn't surprise me. We weren't really even speeding!

Anyway, I'm hoping SteamCon will be more like SakuraCon which was amazing. I'm also going to make sure I always register for PAX early from now on, lol. I could've really used some of the panels I missed, though the one I saw Friday was a big help for my art.

I didn't expect to be able to get an appointment for a week or more like the other one, but the dentist was the one who answered and said I could come in right then and there even though he had another exam scheduled. I went and he told me I had an absess and that it wasn't even the tooth that was hurting, but the jaw nerves since the tooth nerve was dead. He recommended that the top wisdom and second molar be removed as well due to their condition and infection risk. When I said ok, ready to schedule it some weeks away, he said he could do it right then and gave me an estimate of $600 for the whole visit. I was terrified, but after a chat with my hubby, I went for it.

Those of you who know me, know I am deathly afraid of needles and have never had novocaine before. The dentist, who happened to have been a graphic artist before going into dentistry, was very understanding... and I mean VERY VERY understanding. Not once did I feel uncomfortable or lacking control of the visit. I think he truly understood my terror when I became a shaking tense mess over a cotton swab that I thought was the needle, lol. He showed me the actual needle which was thinner than most of the needles I use for beading and explained everything as he did it. The swab was basically high potency Orajel- 20% benzocaine. He was so gentle with the needles that not once did I feel them, just his hand and the metal holder part a bit. He was comforting all the way through and if I was even a tiny bit uncomfortable he would stop and try a different angle or go much slower. Even the extraction was comfortable, though my mouth made some bizarre sounds. I evidently also have tree roots instead of normal tooth roots on my teeth, they are insanely thick and long. That didn't bother him though and the top two came out easily. The bottom infected one was a tad unpleasant, but he did everything he could to make it not hurt. The pain was there and gone so fast I nearly thought it hadn't happened, it also so faint I wasn't sure it was really pain. I ended the visit feeling like I had a melon-sized wad of cotton in my mouth, but no pain and perfectly ok to drive the short stint home. He was so good he earned a hug from me and I am not one to think dentists deserve hugs. As long as he is my dentist I won't be scared to go now. After the novocaine wore off, I was hurting a bit, but I had prescription pain pills from the other dentist so once that kicked in I was fine. I switched to plain advil a few hours ago and I'm just a bit puffy and stiff.

My hubby was great once I came home too, we went to Macaroni Grill so that I wouldn't need to cook and could have something super soft. I've also discovered that Macaroni Grill is a great place to get pasta that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (yes, Olive Garden, I mean you!, lol). Since I couldn't use a straw, I ordered my iced tea without ice (I have cold-sensitive front teeth), which at other places usually gets a weird look or ignored, but it was perfect. I got the create-your-own pasta at just 8.99 since I skipped a meat topping and salad(though I would've loved both). The chef's trio is also a great deal (it's not on their website). You get salad, entree, and dessert for roughly the price of the entree alone (some are a few cents higher, but the lasanga is $1 cheaper!) The chef's trio desserts are also still big enough to share so the savings is too good to pass up. Just don't go to the Alderwood Mall one (I like having hardly any waiting, lol).

I will be packing over the weekend regardless of this setback and I may be able to post some of my mid-chaos doodles i've managed to have time for. Also, it has gotten a bit overly warm today, but at least it is a dry heat and only high 70's/low 80's.

As if clearing the apartment of clutter and getting things prepared for the move wasn't hectic enough, I now have to do it with a 2"x3" second degree burn on my tummy. I got it thanks to Lean Cuisine's 'new' packaging which decided to crumple as I lifted it carefully out of the microwave, dumping linguine carbonara onto me. A caution to all who have them in their freezers... put a thick plate under it! I am boycotting them as a result of this too. It's been a week now since that happened and the blisters are gone and I'm healing well (though the itching is driving me nuts). It is delaying some of my work, seeing as I'm all bandaged up, but I have managed to get plenty done and even get a small excursion out to Leavenworth, a lovely Bavarian Village on the east side of the Cascades (just about 2 hours from my place). The weather lately has been incredible too - sun, cloudless blue skies, and temps in the mid 50's to 60's. Best of all, no bees! This is the main reason I love it here and why I hated Poughkeepsie, NY. I bet it's humid with temps in the 90's there already and, if it is even a tiny bit sunny, full of bees and wasps. I'm actually wishing I was moved into our new house in Bothell already so I can enjoy some iced tea and a good book out on our deck. I'd even let the cats out into the yard on extra long leashes, I think they would really enjoy it. =^.^=

Oh and Happy Memorial Day everyone! I will get to all the deviations and messages eventually (I already have hundreds...)

I've uploaded my Easter sketch since I didn't get a chance to finish coloring it.

Emerald City Comic Con was fun, though the Day 1 line was insane. This weekend I'll be at Sakura Con: Friday, Saturday and Sunday (it is the same place as the ECCC was). I'll be cosplaying Misa Amane from Death Note and my husband will be dressed as L. My entire costume is complete and yes, I got my hair bleached today so I'm now a blonde, lol.

http://kzinrret.deviantart.com/journal/23547982/ Tue, 10 Mar 2009 15:59:51 PDT Update 3/10: I was succesful in finding an insanely great deal on the entire InuYasha series of dvds (minus the movies) so I no longer need to rely on Netflix's quality control and iffy availability. It's currently in the mail so hopefully it will arrive soon . We also got our taxes done yesterday. We have to pay quite a bit, but we expected it. Next year will be much easier, especially since WA has no state income tax.

Usually March is pretty calm for me, but this time it truly is looking like March Madness. This week wasn't too busy, but next week we finish our taxes and then get our preapproval . Once we have that, we start seriously house hunting, plus my husband's birthday is this month and the clocks go foward an hour. I also need to put together costumes for Sakura Con... we've decided to go with L and Misa Amane from Death Note instead of Sasuke and Sakura from Naruto. The main reason for the switch is cost, I just need a longsleeve white shirt for him and a gothy outfit for me... much cheaper than the $90+ I would need for each of the other costumes. This way I also only have to bleach my hair instead of bleach and dye it bright pink, another cost-cutting change. I will post what I can when I can while I do all that needs done, but I'm afraid uploads will be few for awhile.

Also, I have tried repeatedly to get InuYasha's vol 11: Into the Miasma from Netflix, but I've had to return it 7 times now due to it being badly cracked or fully broken into multiple pieces. I'm running out of options with it and can no longer 'request replacement disk' at Netflix, if anyone has a copy and is willing to lend it to me, please send me a note!!

"January 15th, 6pm: I just had a Criminal Investigator and State Trooper come to my door and tell me my mother passed away. Seems January is a bad month for me. My grandma, Shadow, and now my mom all died in the month of January - two of them this year. They have taken her for an autopsy at Vassar and supposedly I'll get a call tomorrow. I'm ok, it was kinda expected considering her smoking and drinking, plus she had bad asthma and diabetes."

I'm not writing this because I'm depressed, but just in a thoughtful mood. I learned she died from a second heartattack and learned from her coworkers that she'd been sick for months and had lost her job around my birthday (the same birthday she decided to basically ignore). I've no info on what has happened to the 'estate' since I refused to be administrator (a wise choice considering the $10,000's in credit card debt she had). Still, I'm a bit curious about the fate of my childhood home... it may have been a "shoebox", but I still lived there from age 4 to 19. Google Earth and similar sites show the trailer is still there, but the cars and shrubs look different, but I have no way of knowing how up-to-date the images are.

In happier news, I'm not only sticking to my resolutions, but I've been feeling happier as well. There's still stress, but with my drawing table clear I am drawing more and I think that is substancially helping my mood. This may all change in a week, but hopefully all will be fine and plan A will go into effect. If not, there's plan B. I'll let everyone know what I'm talking about after the 23rd... don't want to accidently jinx it.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I got some really great gifts including the Best of Inu-Yasha CD - a delightful soundtrack from the show, plus quite a few games and expansions. I also got a tiny RC helicopter... I always wanted one, lol. The cats are terrified of it and even I have to duck sometimes since it tends to spin wildly at times, but I love it anyway. I hope all my friends and family got the cards I sent; I didn't get any, but since nobody knew my new address, it's ok (this year *expectant gaze*).

Though the latter half of the year has been pretty good, I will be glad to leave 2008 behind me. With numerous sudden deaths and other chaotic happenings, it hasn't been my best year. I hope 2009 will at the very least start off better than 2008 did.

My holiday shopping will begin shortly and I want to send all my friends cards this year, but I have no addresses for any of them . I even plan to try and send cards to my grandparents (from my father's side; I tracked them down, or at least think it's them, lol) and also to my cousins in Ireland (I haven't heard from them in 8 years). It will be interesting to see if I can actually get in contact with some of my family. I will keep you all updated on my progress.

In other news, I had to rebuy my Sims2 University expansion since, with a new computer, I need to reinstall it all from scratch. I have all the other disks and codes, but my university disk 2 and code were missing, so I picked up another copy during Black Friday. I will begin reinstalling it today. Oh, and for those interested, I finished A Kingdom for Keflings. I am very proud of myself for managing to get all the achievements too.

My birthday went well, though it was less boisterous than previous years. I guess the reminder of what happened on my last birthday regarding my mom put a slight damper on it. Still, my in-laws gave birthday gifts to my husband for me when he visited them earlier this month and I got a good amount of gifts from him too . It was mainly books with a new board game, Ingenious, thrown in. I am thrilled about that since I've been a bit lacking for new books. It doesn't help that I'm a voracious reader... two sittings and a large 300-page book is done, lol. I got Bearing an Hourglass by Piers Anthony, which I've been trying to read since I was 13 (library time limits and such caused me issues, plus there was school), and now I have finally finished it. I also got Jimmy the Hand by Raymond Fiest and Two to the Fifth, the next Xanth novel. The mangas I got are The Tarot Cafe vol 4 and Genju no Seiza vol 5.

Now that my birthday has come and gone, it's time to think turkey... and mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes... you get the idea. Luckily I decided to shop early and have all I need for a fabulous Thanksgiving for two already. That said, you would think I'd have plenty of time to draw... unfortunately I have become addicted to a new 360 arcade game, A Kingdom for Keflings. Once I get tired of that though I do fully intend to get back to drawing and making stuff with Maya now that my class is done. Off to go play now, lol!

I'm also feeling artistically active, so it won't be long before I start posting new pieces. In fact, I have a nice line art piece already drawn that I will be able to scan and post very soon. I will also be working on more jewelry, especially with so many stores here accepting local artists' work. Just a bit more unpacking and tidying and I should even be able to do some painting. I just can't wait to try my oil paints!

Oh and I'll be transferring computers in the next few days, but I will try to boot up my laptop so I can still reply to everyone.

I also have made the slightly insane decision to not only go to Sakura-Con this April, but also to dress up (my hubby is also willing to dress up, hehe). My husband actually decided on who we should be, though I'm not sure about the bike shorts and dress, let alone the pink hair... but hey why not. Any guesses? No? I will be Sakura Haruno and my hubby will be Sasuke Uchiha both from Naruto. We just need to find costumes and we'll be all set, oh and I will most likely dye my hair that insane pink unless I find a suitable wig. Those that know me are fully aware I HATE pink and that hasn't changed, though her particular shade isn't too bad.

Coming up, I'll be at the Digital Arts Festival as well as taking a Maya class in October, plus Halloween will (hopefully) be fun with the apartment trick-or-treaters. November will include my hubby visiting his parents, my 26th birthday, and Thanksgiving. Christmas will be an adventure since we no longer have our tree (it was falling apart last year) plus all the lawn ornaments have no place to go... unless I 'adjust' them for indoor use. December also marks the 6th anniversary of meeting my wonderful husband .

So there's a look at what is going on with me for the rest of the year, though I will continue to update this as needed.

First off, PAX was amazing! I got to meet tons of industry people, play games, see demos, and pick up giant bagfuls of goodies. I had the three day pass and it was well worth the early wakeups to catch the bus there. Also, for those who watch X-play on G4, my hubby was shown briefly on there sitting listening to the panel on breaking into the game industry

Also, I got Spore, which is a solid, fun game, but has one glaring issue that most people don't see. Due to the DRM bug, you can't have multiple accounts on the one computer. So, if you have asked your parents for it and have siblings, they can't play it unless they have another computer AND another copy of the game. I hate to say not get it since it is a wonderful game aside from that issue, but when the manual says you can and the game has a log in/log out button to support something they have prevented for their own greedy gains, I have to say be wary and aware of this flaw before you give EA your money. If you want to, and I encourage this, go to the spore page, go to forums that talk about the game, and post that the inability to have multiple accounts on one computer, not the DRM copy protection, is the reason we gamers are mad. Sure you can play the game without it being in your drive, but I would rather need it in there and be able to let my husband play it too without buying another copy AND another computer.

I've not been drawing/coloring anymore due to my tragic loss of the wonderful commission I was working on and the fact I have little time for it. For some reason I managed to finish the whole 4x6 piece of my Gaia friend and his girlfriend, then when I went to save, lightning flashed outside, the apartment shook with the thunder, and my laptop flickered. I wasn't plugged in so I didn't see a problem. Then photoshop died (first time in many years of using it on various systems, save macs). I rebooted it but for some reason the psd file had become corrupted beyond anything even my wonderful IT hubby could do. I will go back and redo the commission when I get more time, but right now I just can't get into my artistic mood.

As a result I haven't been on here and I do apologize for that. However I will try to be on a bit more once time permits. Perhaps I'll even get back to drawing again, aside from the doodles I've been creating on the tables of Macaroni Grill, lol.

I am still accepting 2 more people for the free commission slots, I just won't get to them as quickly as I once thought I would. Just comment on here and I'll add you.

As you all know from my last journal, I'm moving to Seattle, WA from New York. It will be a big undertaking, but we will manage. This means I won't be on here often or able to draw much either. It will be worth it in the long run though. We have a deadline set now too. We are hoping to put the house up for sale July 1st so we will be leaving either late this month or in June. The movers come give us an estimate Thursday so hopefully it goes well. Then we pack the cats, essentials, and go. Yep, we are driving all the way there with two cats in the back seat, lol. Crazy? maybe, but hey it's an adventure.

To lighten our moving load, we are selling tons (and I seriously mean TONS) of stuff on eBay. Whether you like vintage video games, vinyl records, Sue Dawe plates, figurines, jewelry, china... you name it, I'll most likely be selling it. Some additional news, aside from the trip, is I am getting a new toy this week! A tablet laptop! I really like it better than the plain tablet I have (which will end up on ebay too). It won't be able to run Spore (that's where my new desktop computer comes in), but it will be able to play less graphically demanding ones and has plenty of juice for photoshop and my huge files I will be making.

He also got his first nail trimming from me tonight and was such a good boy, purring the entire time and insisting on belly rubs.

Alright, I have some mind-blowing news for everyone. As my close friends know, I don't like the weather here or the stagnant job market for artists/techies. So, I'm moving. That's right, I am actually going to move: husband, cats, cars, and all. I'm not moving down the street or an hour away either; I'm moving from the east coast to the west coast. I am going to rent an apartment, temporarily, then get a house in the Seattle area. Not sure precisely where yet, but that's why I'm renting first. It is easier to house hunt there instead of on the other side of the country afterall.

For my local pals, if you want to throw a going away party or something at my place closer to the moving time I'm all for it. I'll most likely be sticking around until work ends in June so you have time to think about it. We are in the beginning planning stages so an exact date isn't set yet, but I will post it here when it's decided.

Also, when I do move, I will be applying to the University of Washington. I've visited the campus before and heard lots of good things about the programs there so I will try to get in.

Breed: I'm thinking he is a Egyptian Mau mix.
Personality: very affectionate, loves to purr and rub. Playful and energetic, with a delicate, soft meow.
Fav toys so far: large mylar crinkle balls and anything paper or plastic (I had to get an unopened cracker packet away from him earlier - poor crackers!)

Overall things are looking up, my cough is 99.8% gone and I am not too sore from shoveling nearly 12 inches of snow (though more is falling today). Work is going well, I'm almost done dealing with the mess my mom left me - I just need one more lawyer visit, a bank visit, a funeral place visit, and sending out letters to the major creditors before I wash my hands of it.

Oh and my hubby and I are planning on a new addition to the family. No, not a baby, lol, well... not yet We are starting to look into getting a new friend for Mysti. She has stopped sulking about and crying at night for company for almost a month so I think it's time to get her a playmate, if only to save my head... My head you ask? Lately if I'm in my studio she gets bored and sits right outside the gate and yams. Not the typical 'meow' but a loud, siren-like wail. I check her food... fine, water... clean and gurgling happily, and even her litterbox. As soon as I pick her up to check if she is hurt or sick she shuts up, purrs, and licks my hand. Once I go back into the studio she starts right back up. It isn't all the time (thank goodness for small favors), but it is a regular nightly issue. I love giving her attention and lavish her with it quite often throughout the day, but I do need some time to myself - working on art, surfing the net, playing my games, etc. The solution is pretty simple at least and we should be able to find her an acceptable friend soon. I will post pics when we get the new kitty.

Some good news, both Marco and Piper have a new home with one of my mom's friends who I'm giving all their toys, treats, etc too as well. It's their stuff afterall. More good news is I've actually opened and worked on an art file yesterday. It's the first time this year I have done that. With the death of Shadow and then my mom I haven't had the time or inclination to work on anything. Hopefully that will get better as time goes on.

Seems January is a bad month for me. My grandma, Shadow, and now my mom all died on the month of January - two of them this year. They have taken her for an autopsy at Vassar and supposedly I'll get a call tomorrow. I'm ok, it was kinda expected considering her smoking and drinking, plus she had bad asthma and diabetes. I just hope I don't get landed with tons of expenses because I won't be able to afford them, especially not after Shadow's expenses and a $225 ultrasound to make sure Mysti is ok. If they find it was a genetic thing I'm making an appointment with a sensible doctor right away. Luckily I'm now covered under my husband's insurance. This will delay my return by a few weeks since I have a lot to take care of now. *cringes at the 238 deviations and 253 messages waiting for me*


Sorry I haven't been on lately. First it was the holidays and spending lots of time with my husband and cats. Then at 2:30am Thursday night we found Shadow, our energetic black cat, dead in his favorite chair. We called the vet immediately and I tried everything I could to revive him, but it was too late. We took him in first thing Friday, staying up all night worried about what happened and keeping our eyes on Mysti constantly. We had the vet do an autopsy and they say he died from cardiomyopathy, which is basically a genetic heart muscle disease that increases the size of the heart wall and reduces the amount of blood the heart can pump. Since it was genetic we were highly concerned about Mysti, his sister. We took her in for an ultrasound Saturday and the vet said she looks fine and he will call with more detailed results Monday.

I will probably not be on for a little while longer, but I wanted to let everyone on here know why I've disappeared. I already have 129 deviations and 142 messages to go through, but I'm not up to it now. If you need to contact me about something important, you can either email me or send me an IM on MSN.

My ankle is doing better. I can walk on it ok, though it is tight and sore in a sneaker. The ankle and foot swelling is going down, but the bruising seems to be getting bigger. Might just be my body trying to break it up since it is a large mass. I will be starting strength training on it today, just some slow stuff I found online that will help prevent stiffness, keep the joint limber, and strengthen it against future injury.

As you've probably noticed, I have uploaded a few pics over the past few days. Thanks to being stuck at home I'm able to get back to my art. I'm thrilled with how my pirate came out. Be prepared for a small drought this week though, I need to get the Christmas decorations up. I promise I'll get back into it once they are up.

Saw I Am Legend this weekend, good movie. Reminded me of a mix between 28 Days Later and Children of Men. A warning though, if you love animals you WILL cry, I did and I usually don't. I also saw a preview of the next Narnia movie. Looks promising, both for the Narnia series and the Golden Compass series.

One quick note for ATLA fans, I have not seen the Western Air Temple episode so please remember to put spoiler warning on your journals, etc that talk/reference it. Thank you.

Edit - 12/12 - Just wanted everyone to know I had a nasty fall at the high school yesterday. My left ankle has a grade 2 ankle sprain by my estimate (I don't have a doctor and I'd rather not be poked just so I can say yes it bloody well hurts there). The swelling is half of what it was and the bruising isn't as dark, but it still looks like someone stuck a golf ball into the side of my ankle. Walking isn't nearly as painful as yesterday, which had me near tears when I got home, but I don't think I'll be out and about for the next couple days. As luck would have it, it seems the forcast is making sure I stay put by announcing 4-8 inches of snow tomorrow.

I got a call at 7pm last night asking if I could sub today, I said yes and was told it would be for the full day. Nothing unusual, I took the name of the teacher, subject, and school. I noticed it was freezing rain a bit so I set my alarm a little earlier than usual - 6:05am rather than 6:15am. Got up, did my usual morning routine, etc. Got most of the ice off the car and headed to work. The roads were clear (I passed 7 sand/salt trucks) and I got there at my normal time - 7:05am, even though I went slow. Basically empty parking lot... hmm, odd... maybe the ice has people delayed... I went inside. Completely deserted yet the heat, lights, and computers were all on. Was there a 1hr delay? Not really called for, but possible. I wait, floating around the building. 7:30 warning bell goes off as scheduled... yet no mob of students... must be a delay, but it's not that cold out, the roads are clear, and it's not doing anything out... 8am, still nobody around. Ok, this is getting strange... even with a 1hr delay the buses would be outside by now... I hear footsteps... muffled voices... I peer down hallways... nobody around... I track down the sudden sounds to a guy walking around. "hi, um, where is everyone? I was told to sub today..." "school's closed" "what? why?" "ice" ok... there isn't a shred of ice outside just slush, but ok. I smile and thank the man, sign out, and go about the rest of my day - shopping, getting gas, and a few errands. I try calling my "boss" multiple times, but no answer all day. Strange? I'll say. I would've listened to the radio, but it was my first time driving in slushy conditions so I wanted my full attention on the road. Even so I should've been notified that the school was closed. I just hope I can get paid for the hour I was there.

Well that was my day, I felt like I was in 28 days later honestly. Still no word from my "boss", though my "other boss" called and I have work wednesday. Guess I have tomorrow off unless I get a call tomorrow morning (it's one job, but for some reason I have 2 bosses - one for the high school and middle school; the other for the 5 elementary schools). I wouldn't mind the day off, I finally got most of my entertainment center set up - xbox 360, ps2, gamecube, computer, scanner, color printer, monitor, and a fancy 5.1 speaker system that works with both my consoles and computer (a very rare find). I just need to hook up my external backup harddrive and I'm good to go. I think I am entitled to a day of fun and art, don't you?

I sadly may run out of time on some contests I wanted to enter including and 's Avatar/FUSHIGI YUGI Crossover Coloring Contest. I haven't finished the first of the two required pages yet and I wanted to color them all. Oh well, I can try.

In ATLA news, the latest episodes (shown as one long movie on friday night) were very cool. I especially enjoyed the tanks that moved like caterpillars and the interaction between Zuko and Ozai. It's interesting that Mai and Ty Lee were not with Azula this time though I guess there was a reason for it.

Sorry I haven't been on much. I got sick right before my birthday with a virus that just won't let go. I had a good birthday though, got some great gifts from my husband including a super fancy Gateway 24" LCD monitor that's widescreen, insanely high res at 1920x1200, plus it tilts! It has multiple inputs so I can hook up my 360, ps2, and gamecube to it as well. I've also upgraded my speakers since the old ones couldn't support both console and computer input. Thanksgiving went ok too, though it wasn't fun cooking a complex meal while having coughing fits and running for tissues. Still for the two of us it went fine.

I probably will be on rarely over the next few days, but don't worry, things are ok. I will be busy fully setting up my computer in my studio, hooking up all my consoles, speakers, etc. I also will be visiting my in-laws the 24th and focusing on getting better so I can fully enjoy all my gifties.

Oh, btw, if anyone knows of some really high quality 1920x1200 wallpapers feel free to link them here via comments. I'll be making a few myself later, but right now I'm feeling lazy.

Now that I have time again, even if I get called into school I'm out by 2:30pm at the latest, I plan to do more creative projects. Not just drawing either. I plan to work in various media - charcoal, paint, plushies, jewelry, and lots more. Now that I think I've figured out the bobbin problem I was having with my sewing machine, I plan to design unique plushies. Jo-ann's is gonna love me if it goes as well as I'm hoping it will. Now that I have time again, even if I get called into school I'm out by 2:30pm at the latest, I plan to do more creative projects. Not just drawing either. I plan to work in various media - charcoal, paint, plushies, jewelry, and lots more. Now that I think I've figured out the bobbin problem I was having with my sewing machine, I plan to design unique plushies. Jo-ann's is gonna love me if it goes as well as I'm hoping it will. I also will finally get around to hemming the curtains... (they hang down to the floor so I have them held away from the baseboards with paperclips at the moment).

I still find the whole thing strange since one manager said seasonal employees aren't allowed to shoot, then the guy that hired me says I can. As long as I don't get stuck doing sales I'm happy. I've done enough customer service/retail to know it is not my thing. I'm a bit disappointed I can't do any retouching (only management is allowed to do it), but if I like shooting it'll be fine.

I'm glad they lightened up my schedule for this week. I need some time to relax, draw, and watch the A:TLA episode I taped Friday. If I manage to finish a drawing I'll put it up here. I'll also try to scan the two pieces I did early October as well.

~Warning: Below this warning is a rant. All company/store names are removed to protect said company/store and myself from being sued by said company/store. If you wish to ignore this feel free, I just need to let off some steam. End of Warning~

Well, I quit the clothing store job (it wasn't going to last anyway) and started my other 'more artsy' job. Unfortunately, instead of working with Photoshop or photography like I was hoping and which was implied in the interview, I'm stuck answering phones and doing sales. Why is it employers say one thing at an interview and then throw something completely different at you once you are hired? I've had this happen tons of times and I'm getting quite sick of it. First I was hired as 'sales support' and told I would help with displays and sales, yet where do I end up? opening boxes in the back room! I then try a cashier job at a fast food joint, yet I end up carting ice and emptying trash bins. They actually refused to train me on register that day! I was hired by a clothing store for days and I'm scheduled for nights. Now I'm hired as an artist/Photoshop expert/photographer and yet they have me as an answering machine/sales person. It seems I can't win. At least my substitute job is what it said it was, but it's not a regular schedule and I have only been called in once so far.

I am continuing to fill out applications, I never stopped actually. Had an interview on Monday that was a bit of a letdown, but I keep trying. I plan to try outside the mall again now that I'm actually "employed". That seems to get a better response anyway. I am not asking for some corner office with a cushy salary, just a day job that's flexible, non-seasonal/temp, pays a decent amount, and is not only something I'm good at, but is what they pitch it to be!

I've been kinda grouchy and irritable lately too which isn't helping my outlook on all this either. I'm getting enough sleep, true, but I have lost my cuddle-times with my husband and the last time I drew something was Oct 14th. I don't do too well when I lose my drawing time... It isn't showing up when I'm at work yet, but I'm running around so much I'm even dreaming I'm on the go. I think it's time for a vacation, but how can I take one when I need to keep a hold of my current job as well as scan the market for better? I haven't had a real vacation all year either, no trips anywhere. I think a nice trip down to Florida come January might be in order. My husband has never been to Disney World and I would like to go again.

I also managed to land an actual business commission! I'm so pleased with that . I'll be dropping off the prints at her store tomorrow and getting a nice amount of money for my effort too. I'm also getting a testimonial from her for the website and reference information so I can start a client list.

Some more good news this craziness has caused, I now can drive pretty much anywhere without feeling absolutely terrified. I have even driven in rain and at night (I really really hate night driving!) Just don't expect more than 55mph outta me, that's my limit as of now and probably will be for awhile.

Halloween is just around the corner and for once I haven't put up the decorations. The main reasons are no time and my husband won't take out the acs. I don't blame him, it goes from freezing one day to hot and muggy the next lately. Hopefully November will be more sane, but I get the feeling it won't be. I will still be buying candy tomorrow and dressing up a bit for trick-or-treaters though. I have a feeling I will still run out of candy before the older kids even start showing up... having 3 daycares and an elementary school within walking distance can be troublesome at times.

I will try to upload a halloween-ish pic, but I make no promises.
