I recently went to see my GI (gastrointerologist) to get more detailed thoughts on the colonoscopy he performed on me.  He walked me through the photos he gave me, and basically said that everything looks super good.  And then at the end of the meeting, he told me he'd see me in a year!  A year!  I usually see him every 6 months, unless something goes wrong sooner than that.  This is the first time he's told me I don't need to see him again in a whole year! I sure hope I can keep managing my Crohn's this well for a loooooong time.

The good things:
My beading's been going well, I think.  I haven't had time to produce much new stuff, but my classes have been good, and I've sold some things.  The art gallery I work with seems to be happy with me, so that's a plus.

My job is still great.  The kiddos I work with are 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 now, and as cute as ever (when they aren't driving me crazy)! I've been with this family for 3 years now. :)

In the first part of my timeline, I covered 2002-2005. There were a lot of really dark times for me.  I struggled a lot just to keep taking one step in front of the other.  Moving to Virginia to get a fresh start and be close to my mom was definitely a turning point for me.

This is the piece that got featured. I submitted it way back in April of '09.  It still sits on one of my shelves, with the glass dome that goes with it to protect its delicate branches.  I couldn't take a good picture of the tree with the dome on because all I could see was light reflections. =P

I've been using a soft white paper with a subtle texture as my backdrop.  I like the clean feel of a white backdrop, but it's really hard to edit.  With so many obvious shadows, I have a hard time lightening the photo enough without making the whole thing look over-exposed. So now I'm experimenting with more forgiving backgrounds.  Here's the first experiment.  The paper is the same type as the white, with the same subtle texture, but in taupe instead of white.

Life has been busy (as always), but really good!

I had a 10 day vacation from work, which was really nice.  Drew and I went on a mini-vacation to the little historical town of Marietta, OH to see the sites, learn some things, and just get away from all our normal routines.  We also went to The Wilds, which is a 10,000 acre wildlife conservation center that you can tour by bus with a guide.  It was really neat to see so many exotic animals in such an open area.  My favorites were the giraffes.  I'll have to upload some pictures for you guys to see.

It's a funny story, so I thought I'd share.

On the deviants forum this weekend, :devlittlecarrot1: started a thread asking people to look at her gallery and tell her if they would believe that she's 13.  I posted that I think she's lying, not because her art is too good to be done by a 13 y/o, but because I remember what it's like to be that age.  When you're 13, the LAST thing you want to do is tell people how old you are.  It's not a fun age.  At 13, the only thing you really want in the world is to be 15 or 16.

On Monday, I was feeling extremely week and couldn't hold down any food or liquids and then ran a fever of 104.4.

On Tuesday, I went to my doctor's office, cried, said I didn't know what was wrong with me and that my body couldn't handle any of this anymore.  They sent me to the ER. I was in the ER all day Tuesday, got lots of fluids pumped into me (I was VERY dehydrated), and got a CAT scan done on my abdominal area.  From there, they told me there would admit me into the hospital.

Edit:  The surgery went way better than I expected. I woke up walking and talking (as well as I could with gauze in my mouth), went home, slept, and am feeling really good.  I'm a little sore and my gums are still bleeding (bleh- more gauze), but other than that, I'm good! I'm in less pain now than I was before the surgery! Nah.  I've never even smoked a cigarette. It just doesn't appeal to me.  I prefer chocolate and alcohol.

In other news,  I am working on a new tree.  It's going to be somewhat of a fantasy tree. I remember when I brought my swarovski cherry blossom in to the bead store I teach at to show some of the people who work there and are fans of my work. While shopping for beads, I placed it on a table (with the globe on).  A few kids practically ran over to it when they first noticed, then squatted down to the tree's level and just looked and looked at it, jaws dropped the whole time. It looked like they were peaking into a whole other world.  It was priceless.
