This project is all about crewing a fictional pirate sloop dubbed the Anarchist Revolution (or Revolution, for short), which is captained by The Chimera, (or as those crewing his boat call him: Captain Samuel James). The Revolution sails in a completely fictional reality set in a pirate punk fantasy l-i-t-e scheme. What does that mean? It means we are not sailing with captain Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl. Our crew is cashing in on an awesome trend, but originality is key, and I don't want a hundred thousand of Jack Sparrow's long lost cousin related to Will Turner once removed swabbing my decks. Any tie to characters from Pirates of the Caribbean is forbidden. That is strict and I will not budge on it. I want to make a character who is Barbossa's twin as much as the rest of you, but not on the Revolution, me harty.

What the setting does allow is for bending of reality, within reason. There will be no ties to real cities, real people or real places, so you don't have to worry about continuity and absurd degrees of realism in order to create believability. The most you need to know is that we sail in a tropical sea, so you can leave your toques and mittens at home. The setting ALSO lets you work in neat realms like mythology and superstitious lore. The sea is full of crazy beasts, and I know we all want to be selkies, so this is our chance!

I discourage the idea of anthros and furries, on the fact that it is my ship and cat people and dog crewmen don't fit my vision. I will allow for "people with animal features," however. Go nuts! I wouldn't recommend a big set of wings (they're awkward at sea!) but if you can work in a GOOD reason to have them, then go for it! There are a boatload (pun intended) of sea related myths that you can draw inspiration from. The only limit is YOUR IMAGINATION. Of course, normal HUMAN FOLK are more than encouraged! I don't really want a ship entirely full of selkies and sirens and cursed crab-men.

Stylistically, the term I've coined is "pirate punk" (Because if "clockwork punk" is a legit term, I can make up whatever words I want). Best described, the crew should look like a hodge-podge of period and historical fashion mixed with modern subcultures such as punk, grunge, goth and rave. If you can make a FRUiTS pirate look bad ass then GO for it, seriously. Mohawks, dreadlocks, spikes and puffy pirate shirts are yours for the designin'. I want the crew to be a visual buffet. BUT REMEMBER, pirates were UGLY DIRTY SMELLY THINGS. This is a project where black eyes work better than mascara! I KNOW. I MISS ELABORATE MAKE-UP TOO.

Another thing I want to make special note of is women. Now I know historically there were women pirates, but that doesn't mean I want a 3:1 ratio of busty dames on my blasted ship. If you want to be a girl, fabulous, but I want no heaving cleavage or sexy corsets rattling around. Functional women are more than welcome. On the other hand, I entirely support the notion of disguising gender, androgyny, crossdressing as a guy and other gender deviants. This is my ship, what did you expect?
