In light of the recent casting decisions for the live action Avatar: The Last Air Bender movie, many people believe that intentions behind these choices of actors were inherently discriminatory. Nearly all the heroes of the story (Air, Water, and Earth Nations) are cast as Caucasian actors while the villains (the fire nation) consists of a combination of several minorities. What’s worse, this was does not seem to be an unintentional hiccup due to poor oversight but rather an intentional direction set by directors.

Some die hard fans of the series believe that every member of every nation should be cast as from the background that they vaguely represented in the series, with no room for exception or Caucasian/African American actors of any sort. That too, is a poor decision in my opinion. While it is true that the Aztecs inspired Ancient Firebenders, Eskimo’s inspired Water Benders, shoaling monks inspired Airbenders, and so forth, decisions in casting should not be based on this. This too would be inherently discriminatory and an equal affront to the human rights.

The Avatar cartoon was able to tastefully execute this subtle element of the series due to the fact that it occurred in animation. The art allowed for a simplification of the natural world while omitting race-based caricature of any character designs. A subtle change in how lines curved and a marginally different color palette represented the only difference in ethnicities. Voice actors were then hired not based on race but who best fitted and acted the part. Adding to the fact that the series took place not in Asia but an Asian inspired fantasy world, and one of many elements of fantasy multiculturalism was subtlety added to the series.

Live action does not have the luxury to exercise such techniques. Consequently, if race based decisions were used in casting in any direction discrimination would occur. It could occur with an actor in a main role using make up to look like another ethnicity, extras being forced to cover their faces in the background, and all other sorts of unnecessary and degrading possibilities. In short, any sort of racial motivation in casting would cause discrimination for the movie series.

Of course, in some films race based motivation in casting would obviously be necessary. Movies about World War II or biographical adaptations of civil rights leaders are prime examples. But I think every fan can agree that the Avatar series was not about china vs japan vs Aztecs vs india. It was about Fire vs Air, Earth, and Water. The story was set in a fantasy setting in a separate world. True, there were obvious inspirations from different cultures in every country, but the nations of the four elements were not those civilizations. They became their nations with their own cultures!

Fire nations had regular firework shows and loved spicy meat dishes. The air nation had sports games that involved riding around on balls of wind. The water nation sailed by controlling the waves and crafted their ships with this in mind. These are just a few examples on how the nations were their own cultures and not the ones that inspired them.

My overall point is this. I disagree with the current casting decisions for the Avatar movie wholly and completely. It has a tone that evokes, for a lack of better words, white supremacy. But to swing completely in the other direction would be equally as bad.

I propose a new casting direction for those responsible of the Avatar movie. One that will involve a small, painless departure from the original series. Make the world of Avatar multicultural, but in the sense that every nation houses people of every ethnicity. Have every nation be inhabited by people that represent different backgrounds. Instead of concentrating on race, concentrate on the cultures within the show. Delve deep into the cultures of fire and water and by having very devout prop director’s work on unique aspects of the show. Be like the people who worked on The of the Rings who saw Rohan and Gondor instead of the France and the Holy Roman Empire. They delved deep into Tolkein mythology and worked and created wonderful little details like a Rohan sword hilt being ideal for horseback fighting.

I would not care about Sokka being cast by a Caucasian, Toph being cast as an African American, and so forth as long as they truly represent the characters they play and the nations they come from. For the Avatar series, race doesn't need to be apart of that. Joss Whedon showed in Firefly that in an alternative world/future people could represent cultures they’re physical features wouldn’t normally be associated with.

In short, the world of Avatar consisted of four nations crafted after the four elements. These nations drew inspiration from several cultures but in the end were unique in among themselves. To make casting decisions based on the cultures that...

I mean seriously, anime's Mickey Mouse needs some respect from the youngins. Here's the trailer:

[link]

I know they updated the design from the original, as you can see in the theme song for the original sixties show:

[link]

But honestly, he still looks like Astro Boy. Besides, I can see what the developers were thinking when they said, "You know, maybe he shouldn't wear nothing but a speedo and have a machine gun in his butt."

And the punching through the ground with the classic flash light eyes seems to be keeping with the original tone of the character. And his voice actor was in a bunch of kid's fantasy movies like the Golden Compass and The Spiderwhick chronicles, so that might turn out all right.

The character models seem to be keeping in touch with Osamu Tezuka's art style. No surprise there. His cartoony style was practically made for CGI, so I'm happy with that. I thought that when they remade Astro boy in 2003 as an anime, it was poorer for the fact that they kept with Tezuka's drawing style but colored it with the bright neon colors typical of modern anime.

The studio that's making it is the same people that made the TMNT movie, which I had mixed feelings about. On one hand, it got the character's of the turtles perfectly and had one of my favorite moments ever in Ninja Turtle History (Raphael kicked Leonardo's ass? Cowabunga!) On the other hand, the plot itself was bland and uninteresting and just served as an excuse to get the turtles back on screen again with the success of the television show remake. Overall though, I enjoyed seeing it. I was entertained, I wasn't predicting every plot point, and it had some good moments.

But I'd like them to do a little better than that for Astro Boy. I have a special fandom of Osamu Tezuka and his work as a cartoonist and I don't want to see his signature character being used as nothing but a cash in.

Because, let me tell you, if I had done this 3 years ago when I first discovered deviant art, I'd be a heck of a lot better now.

So, I offer a piece of advice to those who watch me and occasionally comment on my stuff (a total of 2 people, rightfully so), Unwatch me. Now. Otherwise, I'll be loading up your inbox with piece after piece of senseless crap that I'm putting online because I'm not happy with simply putting it in a sketchbook for some reason. I don't want to be a burden on your inbox and I don't want to be a nuisance.

Because maybe, in another three years, my art won't be a nuisance.

I'll be honest, I'm far more active on sheezy then on deviant. What can I say, I'm attracted to shiny stuff! But, as long as were still being honest, I'm not good enough of an artist for anybody to care. However, Sheezy seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Whether or not they get a new service provider, and if they're all the same when/if they come back is still up in the air. So, I may be staying here for a while, who knows?

Let me just make a very well deserved apology to all the people I watch. I know I should've commented on your works, but I didn't. You're all very accomplished artists (more so then I could hope to be) and I admire all your works. Just ignore me ignoreing you. It's rude of me, I acknowledge that, but I don't know if that situation will change.

So, if Sheezy dies, I guess this will be my base of operations (my very very miniscule and n00bish operations). But, if it's downtime ends and it's back the way it was, I may not write a journal for ANOTHER six months .
Well, my weekend danced along to the following tune ^-^

Friday: I had a free period, which I used to play Soul Calibur 3. I swear it's the best fighting game of all time! Character creation, awsome graphics, tons of characters (includeing Raphael-the best one ), mulitple story lines, and a stratgey game minigame! I know I've said this all before, but I'll say it again!

I also went to this fancy shindig down at the art center. They were haveing an art auction for charity. I didn't go to buy stuff though. I went for two reasons:

1) Good Food-All the local resturaunts donated some food for the occasions! I at my fill of bufalo wings.

2) My science teacher, Dr. Saghafi, finnally got a chance to play with my dad's jazz aunsamble ! It was awsome! Really, none of the guys in my dad's jazz band can hold a candle to the Doc's mad saxaphone skillz XD! He was crazy! He was able to play london bridge as a solo right in the middle of "Danceing Cheek to Cheek" and make it work!

Later that night, I rented steamboy, a movie I've been long overdo to see. What can I say about it? It's anime set in England with people useing steam powerd weapons. That's pwng with originality right there !

Saturday: Got together with Case and Luke. We played hours of Soul Calibur and I finnally saw Advent Children. Awsome movie. It may have made it to the list of my favorite movies ever ! Many thanks goes to Case, who managed to sum up the entire FF7 game in 10 minutes (though I still asked many questions durring the movie >&gt.

I can finnally see why so many people are obsessed with Sephiroth. That does not mean that I'm obsessed with him now...only that I understand why people can be.

But omg, his uber long katana is sooo cool! And that long white hair and creepy attitude while wearing that black suit! He's so cool! But I'm not obsessed.... seriously !

Sunday: Homework, Soul Calibur, and Sheezy. Nuttin interesting really

*yawns* Sugar crash.......need.......chocolate........neco wafers............

Well today was senior dress up day in my school, so all the 12th graders got to dress up for haloween. I thought I was gonna top em all with my agent smith outfit. I mean, when I bought my suit, I specifically bought a black, three button jacket so I would look exactly like Smithy. I also thought the attempt to give myself a combover (which doesn't seem to work if you have alot of hair), glasses, and earplug would be a nice touch as well. I thought I would have the best costume there.

I'm quite used to being wrong about everything at this point.

I saw one kid with a handmade costume of Dante from devil may cry (with a cardboard sword), several oompa loompas and dutch maides,Chewbaca, Conda Lisa Rice, Jesus, a pastor, Cheech, three James Bond's, and a clone of my history teacher- Mr. Scott. However the scariest costume was that of our class president. He dressed up as the girl from dukes of hazard. Short shorts, tank top, imitation of feminine anatomy, ect.... I swear, that is the scariest thing I have ever seen on halloween.

The scariest thing though.....my school elected this guy as our class president four times in a row.

When I came home, I decided to take off the costume. It was hot in that thing, I had all the candy I wanted at home, I had soul calibur III waiting for me, and somebody had to greet the trick or treaters. So I stayed home this halloween.

Now, we get alot of people from nieghboring towns comeing over here to trick or treat. Back in their towns, it's inconvinient to trick or treat in apartment buildings. I can understand this, and I'm happy to provide more candy.

Howver most of them come with half ass costumes, to put it bluntly. Some lady put a bandanna in her hair and said she was a gysie. Two little girls wore towels over their clothes and said they were witches. Worse yet, some of them didn't even wear costumes, but expected us to give them candy anyway. Two kids even had the nerve to put the whole, "I need some Candy for this bag too, it's for my brother." routine.

Next year, I'm gonna buy a heap of mustard flavored candy, and give it to those cheapos :evilchuckle:

Also, I'm still practiceing drawing. Damn my inability to draw 3/4 th's view!!!!!!!!!!

I've been real busy with college essays, AP's and the like. It's gotten to be such a hassle @_@. So you could understand how pleased I was when I got to go to digital life, a gaming convention in New York City. It's a medium sized convention where they display videogames, new technology (aka lots and lots of iPOD accesories ), and other stuff depending on who can reserve a booth.

The following is the games I saw and what my opinions on them:

Shadow the Hedgehog: Doesn't seem too different from the past Sonic games, but if it ain't broke don't fix it right? Changeing the main character is a bit of a step for a series with a huge fanbase though. However Shadow's gotten quite the fanbase and the other characters can fight beside you as NPC's so, I'm happy (as long as Knuckles is in it). Also, Shadow apparantly wields a gun. That's a huge challenge to the tradition of the sonic universe, but they've challenged alot already (plus, he's shadow. he can get away with it).

King Kong: Awsome pwng fo teh giant monkey!!!!!!! Seriously though, the game feels like your there. There's no health bars or anything, so It feels like you're actually kong kicking T rex butt. Graphic wise, it's amazeing. The enviorment, Kong's fur, the splashing water as you run, it all looks so damn real! My brother thought it was a preview movie when he first saw it !

Sonic Snowboarding: Should we be afraid????????? jk, it looks fun. Though snowboarding was in both sonic adventure games, the system had problems in both. In Sonic Adventure 1, you just went off a ramp and did a trick while screaing, "Yeah!" That's it. In Sonic Adventure 2, I found my self restarting the City Escape level 10 friggin times just to get all the comboa right. So I don't really trust Sega with mixing Sonic and Snowboarding. But mighty has returned in the game so...I guess I'll rent it when it comes out.

The Elder Scroll IV: Oh crap, I'm still playing the Elder scrolls III . Actually, I only saw a preview for this game. I was impressed. The graphics and dramatic effects, though corney, got the message of dire pwng across. I just hope they have orcs in it !

Dance Dance Revolution for Gamecube:.......DDR.........with Mario characters? Somebody is either an utter genius or the biggest n00b on the planet. Though I'm sure I know one person who is sure to get it >>

Everquest II: Haevn't played the demo yet. I just hope I don't get so addicted that I have to attend therapy @_@

Well, that's all the games I saw.
Later that night I watched toonami, had a bit of an emotional breakdown, and spent the rest of the next day doing Homework. So that was my weekend!
I was in Best Buy today and was sure to pick up a copy of DDR Extreme 2 (I picked up an eye toy while I was there). After I devote some five hours of gameplay to it i'll tell you about it.
Also, my stuff from cafe press came, so now I have more l33t speak, DnD, and Anime shirts to cloth a small army. I've also been playing my used copy of Morrowind like a madman. Go Morgulcultas, go! It's almost impossible to beat Morrowind, so I don't know how far I'll progress in the game.
Wrong...Dead Wrong....

The Slithid armies have grown and their invasion of Azeroth has begun. Oh sure, it's just an event in the form of a few new improvements to a dungeon where the main concern was a roach problem, but it's still a plot progression! I've got to get to level 60 as fast as my AP classes will allow me, otherwise the next thing I miss will be the invasion of Kil' Jaden.

Also, a word of advice, don't play Dance Dance Revolution at one in the morning when your out of practice and there's a glass pitcure hanging in your room. I typed this entire journal with my left hand, and the rubbing alchohol still stings. I'm just glad mom didn't wake up when I tripped and hit my hand against the old thing.
((Shino and Ruesa aren't their real names, that's their sheezy art user names))

So yesterday, me and Shino celebrated Ruesa's birthday. We didn't have a party or anything, we mainly hung out at New Roc City. That's this little street in New Rochelle with several resturaunts, an arcade, a movie theater, a bowling alley, The Russian mafia, and a video games store.

We all went to the video game store, where I was going to let Ruesa pick out a present. However he took forever looking for somthing. He's a shooting game expert, so most of the games in there he liked, he already had! So me and Shino ended up treating him to an arcade splurge.

At the arcade, I spent most of my times at 3 games (it would have been 4 if the damn lord of the rings pinball machine wasn't broken ). I spent some time at mechwarrior (even though that thing eats up money faster then a verizon cell phone), and then I moved on to this fighting robot game that was similar to gundam or something. And it seems to be the only game I can consistantly beat Shino in ! Me and Shino also played this cheap, bad graphics 3D, Dungeons and Dragons like RPG, called Gauntlet. It was a fun game, and I intend to beat it sometime in the future, but it was sooooooo long. I mean, me and Shino must have spent at least an hour on it and we still only got past the first level . I also played some DDR, but to my despair, I'm both out of practice and incapable of playing on a metal board ;_;. So then, we all parted our seperat ways, and I went home. Happy Birthday Ruesa!!!!

AH HA! You thought the jounal was over didn't you ! But you were wrong . While Ruesa was finding a game he liked, I spotted something that suited my fancy, a used copy of The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition (so it included all the expansion packs ). When I got home I put the disc into my X-box and realized, "Hey, you can play as Orcs in this game!" And you know what that means? That's right! Everyone's favorite orc Warlock, Morgulcultas, is now being used in 2 games....where will he strike next !

I had to cut the game short so I could watch the new episode of fullmetal alchemist episode ( x 1000000!), then watched Sc-ry-eD (I think that's how it's spelled ) and went sleepy by.

So, in closeing, "Yellow Wizard has become Pojo!"

So yesterday my family did something that I will remember for the rest of my life. Something that I feel everyone should do, because it will give you an awesome memory you will carry for the rest of your life, remembering it long after the event occurred. Yesterday Jeremy, Mom, Dad, and I went to a rolling stones concert!

So we left the house at around 6:30, which was a tad late. Mom had agreed to let the church women’s organization to host a dinner party in our home, so we had to wait for the first couple of guests to arrive before we got there. So we set off to Giant’s stadium, ready to see the Stones. The ride there was a piece of cake. No traffic or anything. However while it only takes half an hour to get from my house to giants stadium, it takes an hour to get from the exit off the highway to the stadium itself. Yes, I don’t know why New Jersey designed their economic hot spot to have more roundabouts then an English racetrack, but they did. And the one mile strip of highway from the exit to the stadium parking lot was backed up unbelievably. Normally this would be a pain, but one word made it quite fun....hustlers.

Yes hustlers, as my brother calls them. Unlicenced vendors selling stuff ranging from ice cream, unofficial rolling stones t shirts, spare tickets, and whatever else. These people amused me quite a deal, especially the way they were standing in the middle of the road trying to sell their goods to passing cars. It was, creepy, but neat at the same time.

So we got to Giants Stadium after just missing the opening act by some other band (which I didn’t really care about anyway ) and everyone said we should get dinner. In an effort to get out of the house in time, we had left without getting dinner. I wasn’t going to get anything, seeing everything they serve at those places are always loaded with more grease than New York autoshop. However my mom always get freaked whenever I said I didn’t eat anything, so I got a giant pretzel in the end. Well when all of our cheap grease fast food was rung up by the cashier, it was $40 . Truly overpricing. And the beers my parents got costed $7 too, and they bought those separately.

But the food was the only thing that could have possibly annoyed me that whole evening. After we took our food to our seat and sat down, we waited for about 10 minutes before the diamond before the lights went dark, the crowd cheered, the diamond vision played a cool video with the rolling stones logo. Then two massive fireworks went off and you heard Mick Jagger sing, “Start it up!” and then the crowd cheered even louder as the show began.

Oh my the whole concert was awesome. They sang for two and a half hours, and nailed every song they played. They played some old stuff, some new stuff, and some stuff they would have to play no matter what. They sang Shattered pretty early on, and I’ve had that stuck in my head all day. And then they played Tumbling Dice, which will always be one of my favorites of theirs. When they introduced all the backup singers playing with them, they decided to humor us by introducing the actual members of the rolling stones as if they needed an introduction. Me and my brother went crazy when they introduced Watts (he’s our favorite ^^). And by went crazy, I mean WENT CRAZY. We were screaming and yelling (Jeremy was actually yelling, “I love you Charlie!”), mom was afraid we’d fall over the balcony, and dad was sooooo embarrassed (but when girls started throwing their bras onto the stage he realized that our spaz attack was nothing compared to what some stones fans do). When they were playing Rough Justice from their new album, a small section of the stage actually moved forward, taking the entire band into the center of the audience! And even better, when they were playing Honkie Tonk Women, the stage rolled back, and they inflated a giant rolling stones logo behind them! And then they played sympathy for the devil (my favorites stones song) and the stage was pumping out massive amounts of fire while shooting off red fireworks and sending smoke everywhere. It was AAAAAAAAWWWWWWSSSSSOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEE!!!!!!!

And later they played Jumping Back Flash, and the audience went nuts (my dad included ), and everyone was dancing and singing along. I was quite surprised when they sang I Can’t get No Satisfaction. But my mom was hoping for that song, so she went nuts when they played it. And they pretended like the show was over, before playing I Know It’s Only Rock n Roll But I Like It. They then shot off the fireworks, Charlie threw his drumsticks to the audience, and they left, leaving all of us in awe.

Afterwards, mom bought us some Long sleeve t shirts and posters, then I got some sleep on the car ride home, still hearing them playing in my dreams....

So far, I've had quite the good weekend. On Friday i went on a detective conan manga scan binge and read up to the second appearance of Kaito Kid. I read the manga scans till about three in the morning then I went to sleep. I woke up the next morning, had a drivers ed lesson, and went over to see some friends in New Jersey who I haven't seen in a long time. They served us what seemed to be an entire cow Then I came home and carried out the highlight of my Saturday...seeing Naruto premier on Toonami!!!!! I swear it was awesome. They kept nearly all of translations (turns out they decided to NOT call the Hokage "head leaf ninja"), kept the violence (Iruka got stabbed twice, and they only censored out a little bit of the blood XD), and they kept the sexy no jutsu (which to me is the most surprising). The voice acting was on perfect in my opinion, and the theme song was left as uncorny as possible (just a bunch of awesome battle scenes from the show accompanied by some guys screaming "unleash your soul!" every now and again). I <3 this series more than I ever did!

Well, I've started school again T^T. I tell you I'm already feeling like my mind was sent to the shadow realm for all eternity. I mean I had to finish up my summer homework for my AP course, do a bunch of regular homework, attend a 3 hour SAT course, and wake up early to attend orchestra practice ON MY FIRST DAY BACK x_x. But don't worry, I'm crossing my fingers that I get a sugar induced coma to relieve my pain.... *yawns* I didn't finish my homework before the SAT prep course (which is in connecticut, a different state from me, mind you) so I'm up at 11:30 doing homework *cries*

Well I'm sorry about complaining like a big whiner. I usually don't flat out complain (I prefer to call my past journals "constructive sarcasm" instead of complaining ) but the whole situation is a bit stressful.

As for what I'm doing on deviant art, I'm trying to reorganize my submissions so I'm delete the ones which were stupid, moving the ones where I was REALLY reliant on my references to my scraps, and practicing drawing on my own as much as I can so I can submit some original work soon. I've found a few good sites that offer decent tutorials, but I suppose I should buy some books on how to draw manga as well. But idk, I'm still a n00b, so I've got to think about it some more.

Water Water Everywhere But Not Allowed to Swim [Sep. 2nd, 2005|06:05 am]
So me and the rest of my family are going to a lake somewhere for memorial day weekend. I normally would be head over heals for the idea, but there's a small reason I'm not.... I'm not allowed to swim. Yeah supposodley I can't go into the water or exersize for three weeks after my surgery so that pretty much rules out every reason for going to a lake. So I guess the only thing I'll be doing there is homework. And believe me, I still have alot of that .

I got a coffee machine, but I hate coffee. Then why did I get it you ask? To make Ramen and tea of course! That will be so cool, haveing a nice bowl of Ramen in my room. Yummeh ! I'm getting hungry just thinging about it!

Today I saw 2 movies. The first one was that documentary, March of the Penguins. It was very interesting to learn about how penguins spend 9 months every year enduring massive hardship just so they can raise a single chick that they'll probably never see again. Twas a good movie, and it's worth seeing. I'll spare all of us the long list of what I actually learned in the movie, because I have a tendency to go on rants very easily . Besides, the movie gives you the story much better than me.

I also rented both Akira and Kung Fu Hustle. I didn't get the chance to see Akira yet, but I did see Kung Fu Hustle. I have to say that Kung Fu Hustle COMPLETELY ROCKED!!!!! I mean everyone was all like *WOOSH*, and then they were all like *POW*, and then some people died in a cool fight scene with tons of special effects. I don't know what it costed to make that move, but the $3.50 I spent renting it was well worth it ^^.

I've also really started kicking in on the summer homework. I'm going to have to go for a major cram session If I plan to finish it before Sept. 7. But, meh, it's not too bad. I've just got 4 biology chapters to read, practicing writing college applications to do, and I have to read the Prince by Machievelli. I can to that in 1 1/2 weeks (hopefully).

*yawns* Any way it's sleepy bye time for me. G'night!

Well I had nose surgery yesterday and I feel like crap. They said that the surgery was to occur at 6:30, but the doctors secretary messed up and it was actually arranged for 9:30!!! So we left the house at 5:30 for nothing. Not to mention the fact that they had me scheduled for the wrong doctor (I would have had my cataracts drained if I didn't speak up, eep T^T), the doctor was actually delayed by an hour and a half, and they lost my consent form! I tell you, if there's anything less efficient than an airport, it's a hospital >>.

Well they knocked me out with some sedatives, and I tell you that stuff hits you like a rock. I mean, I was like, "Well this stuff doesn't seem to be working at ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ." And you wake up in what appears to be seconds later but really several hours have passed x_x. And when I was waking up I had an oxygen mask over my face and they had to keep reminding me to breathe! Also the woman in the bed next to me passed out because she was in extreme pain and she had a morphine the night before here surgery. They said they were gonna get an ambulance for her (which is weird because we were in a hospital), but the ambulance on the phone said they needed her social security number. However she couldn't give it for two reasons.

1)She was unconscious.
2)She was an Austrian patient who paid in cash, so she probably didn't have it.

I tell you, I don't want to wind up in a hospital again for a looooooooooooong time.

Well I’m back from the magical land known as Canada, and I’m quite glad that I have my internet back. I missed it so much *hugs monitor.*

*ahem* About my vacation. Nothing much to say about the ride there and back, other than the fact that I’m always the person to get chosen for a random bag check (unless my eighty year old grandma is there, she’s a suspicious character if I ever saw one). We also rented a fancy Toyota, if those words can even go together. I forget what it was called, but it had leather seats and a annoying blinking light that told you if you weren’t wearing your seatbelt.

As for the vacation itself, we stayed in this house on Georgian Bay for six days. It was fun, but the water was really shallow. Apparently there’s a big conspiracy theory about how the government is draining water from the bay into the Mississippi in order to get all the silt out of that big river. It’s a nice theory, and I might research it a bit later.

Nuttin major happened while we were up at the bay. We just swam and went on a boat and stuff. I got a lot of reading done. I read some of my biology textbook so I could get some of my homework done. I also read the first book of the Ender series, and I’m sufficiently hooked. I’ll have to visit the library (or as Jerry Sienfeld calls it, “The Government funded pathetic friend”) to pick up the other installments. I read some of the Oriental Adventures DnD supplement. I now have the urge to create a Naruto campaign for dungeons and dragons. My brother also bought me a copy of Newtype. That’s the magazine that’s written for Japan to say what’s new, and translated into English so we can feel bad that the series won’t be translated for another five years ;_;. I’ve never considered myself an otaku (in fact I didn’t really know what that word meant til a little while ago), so that magazine left me in the dust! I had heard of maybe three of the anime’s in that magazine, the rest I never saw in my life. I can only say this....TRANSLATE TRINITY BLOOD AS FAST AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!!!!

So, after I read and swam at Georgian Bay, we went and saw Niagra. Shweetness.

We got tickets to the maid of the mist, the imax movie, and the walk under the falls tour. It was like I was being trampled by the water horses that Arwen summoned in the lord of the rings. Truly, that’s the only way I could think of to describe it (pretty sad, eh)?

Going to Canada, eh?
So I'm going away to a week to Canada. That's the only thing I know about my vacation.

Where are you going in Canada?
I have no idea.

Why don't you know?
My mom gets the most random vacation spots in through REI.

Do you at least have a clue?
I think I'm going to a lake.

Well I expect to have fun. I have to take an outside reading book and my AP bio homework with me, so I don't think I'll get to relax as much as I'd like . But oh well, it should be fun. And I'm promptly expecting a tantrum by my mom over the fact that none of us have packed. Were probably getting up early in the morning to catch our flight(and we all know how fun airports are...), so that means I may have to turn to the dark side and rely on some caffeine for energy (instead of my usual sugar high)..

Also, my lab internship is finally over. I have to say I had fun and learned a lot. Working with phage was a good experience and I hope to do it again sometime in the future. But I still don’t know if I’ll become a scientist for a living, though fate is certainly leaning me in that direction. I mean, the worlds authority on tuberculosis goes to my church and decides he’ll let me work at his lab! That’s pretty big to be a coincidence.

Sooooooooo, my weekend. It went a little bit like this...

The first thing I did when I got home was hunt for two old n64 games that I lost (Goemon's great adventure and mystical ninja starring Goemon). I eventually found them in a plastic bag and I played those for a bit. I eventually got bored of those games and I logged onto World of Warcraft.

On Saturday I spent a good chunk of my time doing my AP Biology homework that was assigned to me over the summer. Or, at least I tried too..... You see, over the course of two years I forgot a lot of what I learned my freshman year of highschool. So I actually reviewed all my old biology notes.

Later that day I went to Best Buy. I bought a copy of Donkey Kong's jungle beats for my friend Case (his birthday is coming up), a DVD of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of The Ooze, and a PS2 Gameshark. That's right, I'm officially a full time video game cheater . But lets face it, I have a bunch of old games sitting on my shelf that I'll never put in the time or effort to beat, and gameshark will change all that.

I later got together with Case and we player Lord of the Rings: Return of The King (with cheats, YAY ^^). Then we went with my dad to Vilagio's and had pizza for dinner.

Sunday was basically more biology review and Worlf of Warcraft. But when my brother Jeremy came home from skateboarding camp we watched Ninja Turtles XD!

Well my summer lab internship is going well. They’ve decided that they’re going to pay me for working there over the summer. I was doing it just so I could get into a better college and make progress in phage research, but I like teh monies so I’m not complaining. I’ve moved on from plating/spot diluting/harvesting phage. I’m now isolating their DNA and analyzing they’re it through gel Electrophoresis. In other words, I’m doin important stuff instead of teh usual grunt work.

Well, I didn’t post this journal to brag about how smartsy I amz *gasp.* I was actually wondering if you buddies of mine could help me out.

I need work writing a new bio for myself. All the bios I have over the internet are either too old, too boring, or none excitant. I’d like to create a new bio that I can post for myself on sheezy, neopets, live journal, the works! I’d normally expect myself to come up with something extremely witty, but I’m drawing a blank. So can you guys/gals help me out? What should it say? How can I make it original? I really have no idea. If I could get you to run a few ideas by me that would be great.
