I had a pretty great time besides some major stressing, although balancing the combo of AA table + cosplay takes some juggling. I'd love to cosplay again, but I'm not sure exactly how I'd do it any differently.

ALSO, you'd think I'd be sick of this stuff after fangirling over Yamato for the last three days, but apparently not. This is kind of my favorite thing on youtube right now: A mash-up of Cutey Honey and Space Battleship Yamato.

Basically, it's just me ranting about how much I like drawing fan art of books and old video games, because they let me interpret/relate to the characters more than any other medium. So maybe it's best that I can't write it.

I've been drawing/planning a relatively large amount of fan art lately, with only the slightest sense of guilt. Yeah, it's indulgent, but is it really any more indulgent than drawing pictures of my own characters over and over? It's not as if I have no stories of my own, so why not?

Anybody have any opinions on fan art? I'd love to talk about it and I don't know why.

I don't know, this might be totally lame, but I very much want to make an illustration (or a few) for The Once and Future King, which I'm reading right now. It's a very moving book to me, and I really want to get out some of the feelings it's stirred up.

But I caaaaaan't. I can't draw the character's faces. When I'm reading I can see them very clearly, but the only problem is some of them have faces of real people that I know. Including myself. The ones who don't have familiar faces, I'm afraid to give them the sort of generic "Laura-Style" face I tend to draw. Also, I just can't imagine being able to realize the kind of image that I have in my head- a kind of blending of classic black and white illustration, with touches of medieval woodcut and finished off with the type of warmth I try to add to the figures that I draw. (Try being the operative word.)

I'm just a little frustrated, that's all.

I'd say PiPs and Mirage, because Valyn is probably the most annoying character in the entire story.

2. 6(Erana) and 12(Ziza) are marooned on an inhospitable desert island with no food or water, only a single-shot pistol. Who gets shot?

Ziza. Erana would let Ziza have the easy death.

3. Would 9(Parenchyma) cheat off of 3(M'lila's) test?

Parenchyma wouldn't think twice, although she's probably smarter than any of the other characters, anyway.

4. 1(Hero) and 7(Boogyman) duel. What is it over, and who wins?

Hero spills grape juice on Boogyman's white carpet, Boogyman tries to start some shit about it, but Hero just walks away because come on. That's not a fair fight.

5. Walking home late at night, 2(Mir) realizes 8(Bubba) is following him/her ominously. What do they do?

She'd either not care, or she'd run for it, depending on whether she knows if he's a demon or not.

6. What might an accurate fortune cookie predict of 6(Erana's) future?

"Cultivate your patience, you'll need it."

7. What would 10(Keapon) be voted in the yearbooks “Most Likely To:” section?

"Most likely to attain a restraining order"

8. How long does 1(Hero) last in boot camp?

Pretty long, since that's pretty much what Erana put him through.

9. After a rough week, 4(PiPs) goes to the spa and gets the works. 7(Boogyman) walks in and sees 4(PiPs) all mud-and-cucumbered-up. What does 4(PiPs) do?

I can't see PiPs caring too much if someone knew he liked baby-soft skin. Boogyman's probably a regular at the spa anyway.

10. What is the first chapter of 9(Parenchyma) autobiography titled?

It's just a 50 page list of all the males she's had "relations" with (and subsequently eaten).

11. 11(Valyn) knocks 8(Bubba) out of the way of a car and is hit and killed. Does 8(Bubba) go to the funeral, or just send flowers? What do they do at the funeral/ what kind of flowers?

I don't think Bubba's allowed into churches, so he might send some daises or something, but only because Hero makes him.


12. What celebrity would 12(Ziza) adore?

Someone classy and refined. Dame Judy Dench?

13. 3(M'lila) pranks 5(Mirage's) house. What do they do?

Invite 50 college kids over "for a hot party" without informing Mirage.

14. 10(Keapon) and 2(Mir) are trapped in an elevator for 2 hours. What do they do?

Probably just talk and catch up on stuff. He did raise her, after all.

15. Would 6(Erana) rather go on an all-day shopping spree with 8(Bubba) or 4(PiPs)?

Erana might choose Bubba, but only to keep an eye on him. I can't see her as someone who likes shopping companions, or shopping at all.

16. 1 (Hero) and 9 (Parenchyma) team up to storm the Dark Lord’s citadel. A mysterious stranger, 6 (Erana), enters with 11 (Valyn) trussed up in a sack. 12 (Ziza) jumps out of a hidden doorway and attacks 3 (M'lila) because they think that 3 (M'lila) is actually 5 (Mirage) in disguise. What does 4 (PiPs) do after they are knocked over by 6 (Erana) dropping 11 (Valyn) on their foot as they spot 1 (Hero) and 9 (Parenchyma) sneaking through the gate?

What would PiPs do? My guess is that, in this completely confusing and stupid situation, he might just go and talk to the ghosts inside his head for awhile. They make more sense.

17. 5(Mirage) and 12(Ziza) are lost in a mall together, what happens?

They'd go have tea and ice cream, and maybe end up with some shoes they don't need.

18. What would 3(M'lila) do with a cell phone?

Rack up some huge roaming charges.

19. 8(Bubba) sees a maiden in distress, what do they do?

Try to get up her dress.

I think there's a lot of people here on deviantart who could follow this advice. I actually think my characters follow these guidelines (although I'm biased!).

"...here are some tips on character design that I use on a personal basis.

If you can't draw your character in three solid colors or less and still have them be recognizable, you have failed.

If all your characters look the same as b/w silhouettes, you have failed.

If people can tell your character designs have been influenced by Hyung-Tae Kim, then chances are you're just a cheap knockoff of Hyung-Tae Kim and you have failed.

If people can't tell your character's face apart from its butt, you have either failed or won spectacularly.

Just like the composition of a painting, a character design must have a focal point. Give your viewer's eye a place to start and a place to finish and don't overload a character with distracting bells and whistles. Distractions include excessive belts, giant metal studs, chains, and buckles. If your character wears belts, giant metal studs, chains, and buckles, you have probably failed.

(The only person I know of who can get away with excessive ornamentation is . And she gets away with it deliciously. :B Everyone else fails.)

If your characters never change facial expressions, you have failed. CASE IN POINT, Edit: ALSO CASE IN POINT, Seriously, guys. Blow-up sex doll faces are dumb.

If you think you're going to work for Square Enix as a non-Japanese-born concept artist someday, you have failed.

Square does not need you.

Square does not want you.

(There are other prominent game/film/toy developers out there.)

If you're thinking of pursuing a career as a concept artist and/or character designer with no skills outside of your area of specialization, you are setting yourself up for fail. Everyone wants to be a concept artist, but very few companies need more than a handful of people filling that position. Step back and be realistic.

If your character has buttwings, you have won. I salute you.

If your character looks like a blonde Jesus with a nose the size of Australia, you have failed.

I also switched out all the Aph comics for their finished versions; they're re-lettered and cleaned up better. I was sad that I had to use computer lettering, but my own is just so horrible, and no matter what I'm never satisfied with it.

Well, let's say she's in Manhattan, because it's where I am...in that case, not too many. I dunno though, she's pretty small, and she IS dressed funny. Her ears aren't that noticable.

Yes, perfectly normal.

3)What would be his/her most recognizable feature(s)?
Her hat? Or her earrings?

Mir is adorable, and occasionally I draw her "hot", but mostly just cute.

She can have a short temper sometimes, but she's generally cheerful.

Yes, if she screws up something.

She has her mother and sister, but her father died when she was younger. She is very close to her uncle as well, who she moved in with after her father died.

Not really- she doesn't live at home, but she tags along with Hero instead. Mir is not the independant sort.

The death of her father.

4)What was probably the best time in his/her life so far?
Either her years in school at Lamosia with M'lila, or her current life travelling with Hero.

Hehehehe, I'm so immature. Uhm, yes, although only because it's too weird to think of my characters having sex. They're like children to me.

Less than I used to- but that's just because I draw everything less than I used to. If I'm drawing Mir now, it's usually for a page of my comic, or a random doodle when I'm supposed to be taking notes.

Yes, her sexy sexy body....okay, so only PiPs wants her for that. Not even him really, since he cares much more about her sexy sexy soul.

She's rash, easily frustrated, and judges people quickly.

Her magical prowess, and her desire to help people.

She probably indulges in a little drink now and again.

She never really takes off her earrings- they were a gift from her uncle when she graduated from Lamosia.

Zombies.

Not much, although that didn't used to be the case! I've rewritten her as a much calmer person. However, doing anything to hurt her little sister would probably end you up in a world of pain.
