Again it has been a few months since i last updated this portal, but again i have been somewhat busy with verious work related projects.

The Tiger Tiger Catalogue that i was working on has finally been completed and printed in China, and a copy sits in my office at home. The JK catalogue is being sent from China this week, so i am hoping to get a copy of that 80 page document. I will add a few pictures on here when I get it, as well as some sample spreads.

Along with this i have just finished a complete exhibition project for Tiger Tiger, including the stand, show real, promotional leaflets and other promotions. It seems to have been very well recieved at the Anuga food show in Calone.

Freelance work has been quiet of late due to working hard in my full time design studio (see above lol), however as of November the 2nd I will be changing company's. I will be working for a new company called CDA [link] where i will be working on there catalogues and promotional material. I am looking forward to working in a new studio and seeing how they work. Its a good oppitunity for me, and hopefully i will be taking a lot from this new position.

Then I am looking towards taking an MA in Graphic Design as my aims are to teach this subject to others and help them move on to the next stage as there is still a large gape between profecinal pratice and graduates.

And so people that's the latest updates for now, hopefully in the next few days or weeks I will add some more work for you all to see.

Anthony

Well it has been a very long time, but I have been far from ideal, rather quite the oppicet. I have added a few of the pieces of design work I have been doing of late to here.

I have added a range of work, mostly packaging design, as it seems I am doing more of that at the moment, though I am still doing a lot of print work and advertising work, esp for Tiger Tiger at the moment (50 promotional sale sheets have just been finished, I am doing two of there catalogues, one which people will be able to print direct from there website), another 2 catalogues for JK foods and a few exhibitions for Tiger Tiger.

I have been busy, but for now I have put up a range of freelance work and corporate work I have been doing.

Some of you may have noticed I have started to clean this up somewhat, mainly because I am using the gallery as my on line portfolio, until I get a website set up properly, so a lot of the Satanic Angel stuff will be put in to the scraps, as I need to start asking this look more profecinal. Although at the time it got me my first job, I now have stronger pieces to use.

And so I will continue clearign out my gallery, until then, and until my next lot of submitions

Keep well.

Anthony

Its that time again for more work to be featured on my little portal of design. This week I have put up some work for the food company Tiger Tiger, one of the company’s I work for on a daily bases. Most of what I do is rather mundane, such as image editing, photography, and generic adds, but occasionally I do get to do some of the more interesting design work.

The Tiger Tiger Recipe label set, for example, has been designed for the US market. They have both been designed in Adobe Illustrator as our boss wanted to use a vector design within the work. Each background has been created using vectors. The Oriental label was created using the pen tool. I drew around images, then tinted them, re tinted until I managed to get this lovely light brown, that not only complements the front panel colour, but to also helps bring the products off the page.

For the Thai labels I used adobe illustrator CS3’s trace function as the design had to be completed very quickly to meet the deadline.

The labels are currently being printed ready to be attached to the jars any time soon, so all my American followers can own a piece of my design by getting one of these products J

And its time for bed
Anthony

Well this is my first deviation of the year, and one I have only just completed (in its present form, as clients have a way of changing things last min).

I know it’s not quite in the order I was suppose to put up work on this portal, but alas I thought something was better than nothing.

This is not a style I work a lot with, most of what I do at present is editorial design (catalogues, leaflets etc) so I rarely get chance to play as much as I use to, so though I have struggled with this logo, this last development stage has gone better than I had expected.

More work shall be added soon.

Well, it has been a rather long time since I have added anything to this portal, but there is a good reason, I am now a full time graphic designer, working for a company that likes to work me to death, so I have had little time to load things to this area of the web.

However I shall slowly update this, just need to work out the order to add things.

Anyhow, the company I work for is called Hyperama Wholesale PLC, I do in store graphics for them but I also do graphics for tiger tiger foods, mainly exhibition graphics, though I do posters and other things I cannot think off the top of my head at this present time.

JK foods, where I designed a rather nice 30th anniversary card (managed to use pantone gold as well as a die cut locking method ... am a geek get over it). There food catalogue, I am currently in the process of designing as well as a corporate folder, again among other things.

I have also created a completely new brand for tablewhere, called SENNIN. The logo, the icons and the box design and photography layout where all created by myself as well as coming up with the name (its japinese meaning immortal).

[link]

Freelance wise, I have done a few more logos for web based company’s and I am now completely designing the magazine empty playground, issue 4 had a few spreads by myself, issue 5 was completely designed by me (bar the cover and cd) issue six thus far has been completely designed by me, just awaiting articles and photography.

Satanic Angels CD is now available to buy, though there is a printing error NEVER EVER use registered black for digital printers, I know how to get around it now, but that was a stupid mistake on my part, you live and learn.

For a over view of my work, you can go to [link] and read the blog section as that’s where I have added a lot of it.

I will start adding it back on to this site, as I am still using this as a portfolio page, and as I have now been working for Hyperama Wholesale PLC for over a year and I want to progress to an environment that will allow me to develop further I shall be adding more and more work, the more jobs I apply for.

For now just peruse through the myspace page, maybe one day I will even go the whole way and build a portfolio website.

Who can tell, who can tell?

For the past two days I have been working on various projects, a poster for Empty Playground (A4 this time) adding slight alterations to the flyer created for the masquerade ball and a logo design for Draycott Marlin. I have uploaded all of the work for Draycott Marlin’s logo, the maps and the signage image I had to create in my photobucket account, and in the scraps within my deviant art page... i am considerign puttign the main logo in there as i am nto 100% happy with it

The is a corporate identity project, which took two days to complete (basically I had to wait for them to get back to me on which designs they liked the most, other wise I possibly could have finished it in a day.

I have been contacted by Ben of Empty Playground and I have my first article to work on, I will indeed be doing the entire next issue rather than just some of the spreads as I did in the last one, when that finally gets printed, I will post some more of the spreads I did for them on deviant art.

The internet web company I mentioned awhile ago, contacted me today and asked me to design a logo for a company there designing the website for, just awaiting conformation on there logo whether they liked the designs I did for them.

My friend Charley is setting her self up as a promoter in Nottingham and is interested in using me to design things for her, the flyer for the masquerade ball seems to have been a success.

Thanks to all for the kind words about my work, there much appreciated, I am even starting to feel that things are moving favourably and its not long before I will actually be dare I say sort after?

But for now I have to knuckle down, buy some suit trouser and shirts to go with my jacket and get ready for next week as well as do the said design work mentioned above life is fairly good at the moment.

Well today has been somewhat event full.

Attended the second stage interview at hyperama, and after 30 mins talking not one of the owners of the company she offered me the job.

No questions about my appearance (i.e. the long hair and lip ring as I thought there might be) just took me through the role that I need to do, the type of work she wants me to do and that I will put the effort in. I think what got me the job where my references in my portfolio magazine that gave her all that she wanted to hear.

So as of Monday, I now will be working full time as a graphic designer, I am really looking forward to it. The pay is not amazing but it’s a start, its only 5 days a week, 9 till 6 (use to work longer hours at university, and my co designer is a nice girl who has graduated this year, so will be interested in seeing her work. It good to have fresh input, and its very very unusual for a company to get two fresh designers in leading there design department, it makes a really refreshing change in fact. The person that I will be taking jobs from, whom I had the interview today is looking to redevelop the company’s image, so its really nice to feel that I can be a part of that.

So I have until Monday to buy some smart casual cloths, do one or two jobs here there and ever where, and then a life of work awaits me… and I am looking forward to it

Well new flyer added to my gallery today, it is one of a few designs I have done for my friend Charley’s masquerade ball she is hosting. Its not actually the final design, its actually my favourite design, the final design is ok but I prefer this one, so I have put this one up instead.

I like the use of the wallpaper for the background, its very different for me, I like the mask, though I did not take the picture of it, Charley did, I just edited it. It gives a bit of a Dave MacKean feel to it all, which I rather like, like a sand man graphic novel.

So that’s the latest work I have been doing, well not strictly correct as I have done another logo for Satanic Angel, that does not use a feathered boarder around the demon part.

I have re done the DPS for Empty Playground as they forgot to mention they needed a bleed of 5mm on it, but that’s all done.

I am now the official graphic designer for the magazine, next issue will or should be completely designed me, apparently the work will start soon

Well I never got the job at quiet storm, oh well it was far to far anyhow, not herd anything back from John Brown, but after that brief assignment I am not surprised.. football of all things, the soul thing I really cannot give monkeys about and that was the test… there was no hope from the start of that one. Alas games workshop never got back to me either, oh well.

New interview over view:

However I have had another interview for a graphic design position, this time with Hyperama, which is a hypermarket that deals with oriental and Asian restaurants, shops etc… it was like walking in to heaven down there oriental aisle, huge bags of spices, rice, oils of all description… *eyes widen in excitement and wonder*.

So the interview, after yet another disasters start, I decided to walk there as I never thought it was far… try three miles or just less, not the brightest of ideas, esp. on a hot but windy day, so as I neared, I was hot, sweaty and wind swept… great start… however I managed to at least look presentable near the place and more so whilst waiting for the interviewee to come and see me.

So went in to the office, started talking about the m freelance work and my CV, usual questions, do you come from Nottingham, nope, oh yes I see Grimsby is mentioned on the CV… *sigh* talked about my work, went through every page of my portfolio, which was really nice as normally people just flick, had to explain one or two things… think I might need to change a page of it, as it is titled I am the god of fuck, and with out reading it, it will make no sense… be somewhat offensive.

She seemed really impressed and liked the fact it was very different, and quite a successful piece of design. Next I took her through my work for the flyer (see above), empty playground and Satanic Angel (might have to miss that out if I get a second interview as the first interviewee has already told me she is rather religious, that was very kind of her to do so). After that she took me through what the company does, she seems to love her job, or is verse in talking about it, which made for interesting listening. Its quite a varied job and they do on site printing, which I was quite surprised bout, and there printing must be huge So to the shop floor as it is a shop (as well as other things) and after telling me a bit about the place she mentioned the spices, which is where I mentioned I love to cook oriental and Asian foods (well try of course, I have never actually been thought, so it’s a bastardised version I am fully aware)… and omg it was like my form of heaven… id spend hours in that place… and I have seen the worlds biggest bag of rice, 45kg HEHEHEHEH… yeah!

So after that little tour (the print section was to busy to have me go around, but wondering around the shop was good enough) that was it, walk home, and start working again.

So that’s that really, had someone come around to measure the blinds yesterday, I am now officially for sale (whole alas) as I need to raise £744. If you wish to contribute to this fund please contact me by either posting a comment here or noting me… all contributions gladly received

Well as you can see I have added a bit more work from my freelancing I am doing with Empty Playground, this should be the last of the work I will be doing with them for the 4th issue of the magazine. I am rather happy with how it’s turned out, and it seems one or two people also really like the work.

Thank you for all the comments there much appreciated.

The interview:
Well unlike the other interviews I did feel a lot more confident about it, well bar the test I had to do… where I realise I had forgotten how to use Pantones in Illustrator oppse, if you know how, please, please just remind me as I just can not find it in Illustrator CS, I am sure it was easy to find in version 7 when I last had to use Pantones.

The interview itself went well, I had most of the skills needed and all the knowledge, actually I had more than enough skills (bar a little rusty on Quark as I had converted to indesign a year and a half ago, but with a little practice I will be up to running speed.) The conversations between the designer and the creative/owner of the company seemed to go very well… and I actually like wearing a suit, shock horror… hell id even say I looked good in one. But anyhow, I have to await the response to that, I find out this Friday.

I have e-mailed them and asked if I can have a copy of the test, as I want to re do it for myself and see how long it takes me really. I don’t know why but I seem to panic sometimes if I am being watched, prefer to just get on with things.

I have also completed a brief for the company John Brown to see if they will give me an interview… I am not very hopeful on that one though, the brief asked me to design panels for a tool box based on the England Football team… something I have absolutely no interest in at all, I think it was a bit obvious for the work submitted… even I know its crap. Shame as I would rather work closer to home.

I have not herd any more about the Games Workshop graphic design position so I am assuming that I have not been selected, shame as I would have really liked that job, can see it would be very interesting, oh well, I might email them to make sure.

Freelancing continued:
Well I am doing some more freelance work for a friend of mine; designing a flyer for a masquerade ball she is holding. I have done the basic layouts and she really likes them, I just need to get some photography of a mask, or someone in a mask, as the image I used to show her is copywrited, shame as its perfect, I will recreate it if I can.

I have also been asked to freelance for a new web design company [link] I was rather honoured that she wanted me to work for her, and its all paid work, and my asking prices where fine… its always difficult to know what to charge people, but my prices have been excepted so all is good, she is going to contact me when she needs work creating

And that my adoring fans is that for now
Anthony

Actually no it isn’t, if you wish to see a clip of some of the video work I do (I only have one clip up thus far, I need to get a working copy of compressor to compress my films properly) please go here to view it

Well it seems that people are now starting to want to employ me, which is a nice feeling to have, I have had a call from a design company, John Browns in Nottingham, asking me to do a small test as they would like me to trying out for an interview at there company.

A company called Quiet Storm, of which I have an interview on Friday, has also contacted me.

I have done a little more work for Empty Playground, dvlmtl666 from this site has contacted me about some possible work, and a friend has asked me to design her flyer and poster for a masquerade ball.

All of Satanic Angels work is completely finished (unless I do them a digy pack, and I still would like to play around at a video of them) and I will let you know when it’s in the shops.

I am slowly getting my house sorted out, its going to take a long time I can see that, and I might have to get a plaster in and do the walls, which I dread to think how much that will cost… the other option is buy some expensive lining paper and line the walls that need doing and then paint it all white.

Things are moving, I am working and building up my CV and I have an amazing kitchen, just has some finishing touches to add to it and then its all done.

It’s nice to be wanted

It’s been a busy few days for me, and as some of you might be aware I have started working for a magazine called Empty Playground. This is only freelance work, designing a couple of the DPS for the magazine 4th issue that’s released in September.

I managed to get the job after designing the magazine an A3 poster, as advertised on myspace, there is a journal entry on here about that so no need to repeat myself too much. The spreads I have been doing consists of an interview with Harken, 2 DPS on Battle Metal (shamefully I have found I don’t mind some of it), DPS on setting up a recording studio and the news section, of which is my latest submission, to give you all a teaser of the type of thing I have been doing.

The rest of the DPS will not be put on here until the magazine has been released and possibly when I am doing the work for the next magazine. If you would like a copy of the magazine, and more information on what it is, please go to [link] the proceeds actually go to paying my wages so please buy a copy, I need to live J

In other news

Satanic Angel
I have finished off all of satanic angels artwork, just awaiting conformation of the CD face design and then that job as it stands is finished. I would happily work for them again as I have had a lot of fun on that project, and feel its quite a strong piece of work, though that will make it harder to design the next time as I already have quite a high bench mark to top… but for now there is no need to worry as I know the lead singer/main composer is not going to be writing another album for a little while.

Interviews
Well finally I have an interview for a graphic design position in the Nottingham area, on the 8th of September, which I am looking forward to, and this month I have been rather fortunate with job applications, with Games Workshop and John Brown architects seeming to show an interest for the first stages of applications, which is always nice. I must admit I would really like to work for Games Workshop, I have always liked the style and publications as well as painting the little figures, so I am very fortunate to have a friend on the inside whom has been supplying me with information and resources to help me with the interview if I get it. Fingers crossed eh!

Freelance work
Well it is very nice when friends ask you to do work for them, it seems to say that they have faith in your work and like what you do, so this week I have been asked by Charley if I can design the posters and flyers for a masquerade ball she is hosting. I have talked about doing art work with her before as she is looking to set herself up as a promoter, and in the Nottingham area its defiantly needed as there are very few in this city, even though it has a rather large community that can be catered for, so this could be one of a few projects just starting up for me.

None art work related news

I have my emperor ticket, so on September the 28th I will be making my way to London, hopefully meeting up with friends and then going to see this truly magnificent band once more, I wonder if I get to meet them again this time around J

Satyricon are also playing, and yet again I will be going to see them, when ever the play Nottingham.
Lacuna coil are also playing and I should also be sing them if funds permits

So for now that’s what’s going on, apologies for not having time to comment on people submissions, I will I promise, I have had a look and there are some amazing pieces of art work that I would like to add comments upon.

I don’t know why, but I seem to find self-promotion one of the hardest things to do. The idea that your designing for yourself to promote yourself, capturing the essence of whom you are or wish to be perceived to the outside world, or more importantly your future clientele.

I had already and have had for a while the front of the card designed, that which I use as the id for the front page. It’s a bit risqué, esp. in this day and age, but design wants to draw upon the now and play with it, subvert it a little poke fun at the absurdity of modern life and morbid curiosity.

But I digress, the back of the card proved problematic to design, until I saw a warning label on the electricity box in my house, and I hit upon the idea of making it like a warning label. And there you have it a business card idea.

It was created in Adobe Illustrator CS, quite simple design but plays upon the warning label you might expect to see with a suspect package.

For those that do not know empty playground is a music magazine based in the UK, it’s a rather underground magazine/fanzine but seems to be rather big on Myspace, of which is where this story starts.

Empty Playground magazine posted a bulletin on Myspace asking for the following.

‘Hey all,

We urgently need someone who can make us a v. good looking, professional A3 Poster for Empty Playground...

It will be in B&W and ill give you all the info. If you would be up for doing this for us, and writing the next day or so and in return we can give you an ad in the mag and promote you then please get in touch now!

Thanks a load,
Ben xx’

Around midnight last night, I decided that I might as well contact them and see what they say and come up with. So I sent them a little note, and they got back to me today, with the information they required on the poster. Like most design jobs they might have a vague idea of what they want, though they never seen to have a complete idea, and this was the case for this project. It was very open, just had to make it look ‘Metal’ and include the given body copy.

The first design I did can be seen in the scraps folder (when I put it in), I did this for something else but it was never used, but I have always liked this image and wanted to see what would happen if I put it in a different format/context to what I had done with it before. It’s an interesting design but not what was required.

So back to the drawing board, and it was whilst in the shower that I cam up with the actual design I was going with.

I basically wanted a splodge and type, and that’s what I created, basically… but the splodge is actually made up of type, rather than vector graphics or imagery.

These are pure typographical pieces, which is rather different from me. I would like to thank Devious Creations (Dan) for finding the typeface (I had an image and where it was from but not the name, Dan found it before I did, but it saved me time which was a good thing).

So that it, everything was created solely in Adobe Indesign, I am starting to get the feel of that program properly now, much prefer it to Quark Xpress 6… heathen that I am. Anyhow they really like the designs and have offered me work in there magazine, which is always nice way to say thanks. I have yet to hear a reply, it’s only for little bits of work and I have said if its more than just little bits I will have to charge. I hope it sounds reasonable.

But its nice to be asked in all truth, I will let people know how it goes if it does go.

Well in other news I have started submitting my photography from Italy when I went... ok, ok I know it was awhile ago, but I have been a bit busy, and I have lots to upload… Some of them are crap, but I decided to upload the lot… however I have seen some of them again and I have to say I am really pleased with them, really nice images,,, anyhow if you wish to have a look at them, follow this link [link]

And that people is that, hope you like the new submissions, and I hope that I can slowly make my way in to the world of professional design soon… but for now I need to eat, and I was suppose to go out but I am rather

I was informed today of a possibly pending gig by the band I seem to have become a resident artist to this year, Satanic Angel (only because I keep doing work for them lol) so I designed a quick flyer for them. It’s based on proposed flyer designs from before, but as they are supporting slight differences has been made to the design to incorporate the headline act Hecate Enthrone (who incidentally I will see the day before in Nottingham).

The design is simple, clean and unobtrusive, using one typeface, one colour and the bands logos. I tend to see far to many cluttered and badly designed flyers out three so I just wanted something a bit crisp and hopefully elegant. So that’s the new deviation… it might not be used, but it would be nice if it was… though next time I will add my details to the very bottom.

So deviant art has a new layout, at first I could not find anything, but now I have had time to explore, I have to say I rather like it. It shows more of the deviants art work off, and it’s easy to navigate, the more I use the more I see it as an improvement. And thanks must go where there due for this, as I do use this site as a promotional portal showcasing my work.

As some people are aware, I have had issues with my old avatar, so I decided to change it, I want to promote myself, and if a deviant gets it completely wrong, so might a prospectus employ, so it is now a picture of me. Yep that’s what I look like, just goes to show that its not what a person looks like, its what’s inside that counts.

Well as you may have noticed I have added a few new peaces to my gallery, including undecided variations, which I will go in to a little further later on in this Journal.

These are low quality samples of the artwork I have been doing for Satanic Angel, with imperfections and mistakes left in to prevent theft of there artwork, so please excuse the seemingly lack of quality on these images.

It brings together the various photo shoots I have put on here, and shows how they then fell in to place with the text and format, and how that format has to a degree in some cases changed the way the image comes across to the reader, or so I think anyhow.

As for the artwork, I am very happy with it, and how it has come out, there are just a few little things to do, and I really want to re do the photo shoot for possessed as I am not happy with it. I want something that looks more like possession, so will take an image with a person with there eyes wide open and either blacken there eyes or make them white. I think I need to speak to =redletterflight as she has to be one of the most creative people when concerning eyes I have seen on this site thus far for some tips (your never to old to learn).

As for posting a ridicules amount of variations on the same spread, well I would like peoples opinions on which they favour and why. I like people to comment on work, but if you prefer one over any other please please let me know. Myself and the band have spent the last two days trying to work out which spreads to use, we think we know which spread we are going to use for the Blessed by the curse DPS, but the internal back cover has yet to be decided. Should we repeat an image or image variation, or use the pendent manipulation for one, and the marked out pentagram and knife for the other? Options very welcome on the matter. Yes some of the variations seem minuscule, but this is design, and the minuscule is important, and its easer to visualise when you can see it in front of you, or that’s my opinion anyhow. Once the finals have been chosen, the rest will go in to scraps.

As you might have guessed this is only some of the DPS I have created for the band, there are lots of them, slight variations that most people might not even notice, but they have been whittled down to the finals that are shown now.

This has taken a long time to get to this point, however there is a good reason for that, the album has taken this long to get this far, it’s the band debut and they want it to be perfect so rightly so there doing just that, same as myself, it has given me time to produce work reflective of that same ideology. Normally I would not have so long on a piece of work, and its been quite relaxing working at such a pace, and is probably why I have so many variations of different things for them.

And there you have it, one album ready for release. To be released through Deadsun records. Please check the band out at [link] order a t-shirt if you like, they where both designed by me J

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This work, as is all of there art work, is copy write by the band. Please DO NOT USE, hot link or print off for personal or none personal use.

Thank you kindly.

Hello one and all, sorry for the lack of updates and information, alas I have been a tad busy moving house and installing a kitchen, the usual things that keep people away from posting artwork on line.

Well in the coming days I will be putting up the artwork and all the roughs for some work I have been doing for satanic angel, its completed, and I am very happy with the over all results. What I have to work out is my copy write protection marks as obviously I can not put artwork up here that can easily be printed off, a shame but part of the industry.

Also I have started a new version of the creative block magazine, cover has been decided, as has the content I am just writing it now, the difference is that this issue is the CV issue, the one I send out to company’s to create an interest in me as a designer, as it is too expensive to send off copies of the portfolio and then what do I take in for interviews.

I have had very positive feedback for the portfolio on one of the job interviews I have attended recently, shame they realised I was more interested in doing print based design rather than portrait photography, but she was very impressed with the portfolio, which is very encouraging.

What else, well its been awhile and I have a lot of deviations to go through at some point soon, so please bare with me if I have not commented on your artwork, as I just have not had the time, or for that matter the internet for the past month. Things will take some time to get sorted out.

For those that enjoy some of the songs/poems I have been writing recently, well I have posted on here, I have a new one posted on my blog on my myspace space page [link] entitled 'And I have become your salvation'. Sean it’s not quite as emo this time, its very bitter though, exercising my inner demons.

Well its been a while since I have been on here, due to many reasons, the main one I have been homeless for a month, as I have awaited for my new home to sort itself out.
I am now sat in my new home, ok it’s a mess at the moment, as I am still designing it, the kitchen is the main priory, as I don’t have one really at the moment, well I have some sides, a sink and a microwave… I am not a microwave cook, and I have to say with out a cooker I am struggling, how can people live off microwaveable meals?

So yes I have finally moved out of London, Sean, I will post your magazine off very shortly, things are taking a little longer than expected but I have not forgotten about it.

I have spent a little time in Florence recently, took a few pictures, though due to not having a very steady hand and using excessively long exposures quite a few of the shots have come out a bit blurred… that teaches me for not using a tripod when I knew I should. However I do have some nice shots, and I have decided to start doing stock imagery, (a) so I get some practice with the digital camera (b) so I get my work out there and I would be interested in seeing what other people do with it. But for now I will have to put that on hold, the kitchen comes first am afraid.

So yes I went to Florence, to see my friend Svetlana, and have a tour around the sites, much needed inspiration I have to say, London really was draining my creativity, I am not a huge city person (I actually live in Beeston on the outskirts of Nottingham, its quiet and has a nature reserve near by. I am quite happy.

Satanic Angel the band I have been working with designing there album cover and internal spreads, have been signed, and are going on a European tour soon, the t-shirts I designed have been well received by there fans, the artwork is all completed, I am just awaiting the lyrics for two songs and the record company bumph (technical term ) as well as the bar code song order etc. Once that’s all sorted out I can send it off to the printers and have more of my work out there. I will add a version of it on here, but I have to think of a way to protect it from copying, photographs of the inlay and booklet might be the way as there never perfect flat copy’s that people can print out and use as there own.

Well I keep applying for graphic related jobs, still not had much response, which is slightly disheartening, but if I keep going and keep creating I will one day be discovered. The creation of the Creative Block CV is now becoming priory project number 1.

Myspace, yes like many other sad basterds, I also have a myspace account, actually I have had one longer than I have had a deviant art account, and I use it for much the same reason to advertise my art work, but at present I don’t have enough on there. I will get my film work on line one of these days… so if you wish to add me to your myspace friends list my account is… [link] and if you really want to know what I look like I do have a pic on there, but its not particularly clear, thankfully. The post card was part of something I created to accompany my dissertation on the education system, same as the icon I use on this site, it all forms part of an on going theme/project about whether we are educated stupid or not. Me in that slightly odd suit was part of one of my films illustrating the points I was raising in my dissertation… so not only am I on a post card, but also the school teacher/lecture and a student in a short film. For someone that is not particularly photogenic, I seem to have a few images of myself dressed up.

So that’s about it, apologies if I seem to have just fallen off the face of the planet, in a way I sort of have, I am starting to get things back to normal, but it will alas take time before I am up creating new art works. I will add the mock CD cover to the scraps folder as well as the colour image I created to make it.

Thanks for the comments asking where the hell I am, sorry for the late replies but there have been a few things happening that I have not had much control of.

I will return, as king!

I have just read a comment on a thread about my avatar logo, and feel the need to slightly embellish upon what it actually is, as there seems to have been a misunderstanding, and its meaning misread.

The logo started off as a rubber stamp, used by the Nazi’s during the second world war, I then took this in to Photoshop and removed the swastika, replacing it with the letters DFES (will explain later in this journal entry).

The head of the eagle was then removed and an attempt to re create a turkey head was put in its place. Behind this a plumage was added to give it a more turkey rather than eagle feel to the icon.

DFES stands for department for education and skills.

So where did this all come from, well it came from my dissertation about the education system in England, I was questioning whether we are educated to be intelligent or passive receptacles that would regurgitate what we had learnt as the given truth.

On contacting the DFES about what they considered intelligence, I received the reply.

'The Government has no particular view on what is considered intelligence'

This dumfounding response formed the basis to my entire dissertation, that looked at whether we are indeed being educated stupid as a self proclaimed philosopher Gene Ray indicates in his hypothesis of the 4 day time cube (if you look up his work, please be away he uses very inflammatory language to put across his points, of which I contested and was branded a 'word worshiper' quite ironic really considering am dyslexic.)

Because I am a designer, I was not going to hand in a bundle of paper for my dissertation, I actually designed it, to make it look like some form of Nazi proper gander document, the logo upon first glance was most likely to be mistaken (as apparently it has been) but upon further inspection people will see there is more to it than meets the eye, the same as the document its self. Actually I stained every page of the document with tea to give it a more aged feel to it. Inside the dissertation (which was perfect bound) I included a post card, which can be seen here [link]

The logo is however not featured on this side of the post card which is a subversion of the WW1 British army poster featuring lord Kitchener, my version alas features me, in the suit I wore for both the presentation of the dissertation and for the film used to demonstrates 'why we are educated?' The same suit was also worn for my Graduation as the tutors and students of the graphic design department where the only people in that entire room that realised the message behind the suit and to a degree the persona. Graphic messages aren’t always paper based, and are not always for the majority.

I will developed these things further as both the dissertation and the film feature in the third edition of my portfolio, I just need to take pictures of them.

I am a little annoyed that I have been referred to as a neo-Nazi, please check what your saying about people before commenting on a public forum, if unsure ask, I am sure they will kindly explain misconceptions if there are any, and this time there most certainly was.

It’s just the logo design for now, but it’s a start.

For a link to see their site go here [link]

Well I have finally added to my photo bucket account the raw images to the photo shoot I did on the 12th of Feb to my photobucket account [link]

Please feel free to have a look.

These are the completely un edited images, and will probably bare little likeness to the ones I will be putting on here in due course, a lot of editing is required (still learning to use the digital camera, and trying to remember how to do photography lol).

Well the images came out not too bad actually, I had to do a lot of compromising due to it being to cold to go on a location, people dropping out last minuet leaving me to change the entire shoot (thanks for that) but in the end I was rescued by Doug, who let me use his bedroom and features in the shoot as well as Hannah the other willing victim.

I am very grateful for your help in creating the images, waving the light pen around and waiting until I had masked out the area worked out how to take the photos (houses don’t give you much head room when trying to look down upon something.) So yes I would like to thank the two models featured for there dedication to getting this completed, with out you I would have been very stuck, so thank you, I owe you one.

So now I have the image on my computer, I will be editing them very soon, colour correcting them to match the rest of the photography in the in lay, changing the background and editing out the god like arm that holds the magic light in some of the photos from them J I need to decide which images best work for the two remaining songs, ‘blessed by the curse’ and &#8216ossessed’.

For the first song blessed by the curse, I feel I will be using an image with Hannah in it, for the other I will use one of Doug’s images, quite possibly image 173 (just his head that will fill most of the page).

Soon this album cover will be finished, I am glad I have been able to spend some time on this as it means I have been able to refine the ideas and create a look that is stylistic and one that I am rather pleased with, as is the band.

So it’s the final straight now, I think the album is to be ready for may, so I want the art work finished soon so it can be vetted and put in to the correct format (I just hope its not PDF as every time I have to use that it changes the tones of the work, unsure why.)

So anyhow that’s what I have been doing today… oh and if people are particularly bothered, two of the houses in Nottingham I am looking to move to are also featured in the gallery.

Final days of deciding end next week, then I have to buy and then I have a base to work from and not worry about moving.

Anyhow its 4 in the morning and I am talking drivel, good night.

Well the other day I went for my second tour of Central St Martins University for the MA in communication graphics, and to say the least I was not impressed this time around.

Finding out more about the course and the work, it must be losing its prestigious reputation as the work was mediocre (though the digital media videos where rather good as was one signage project, but the evidence that 90 students where excepted for the course was not evident, not by a long shot.)

The building is like most institutes these days under funded, has a lack of facilities and hot desking is the current norm (that’s because your trying to put too many students through the system).

Its insulting to know they have ear marked half the places already to over seas students, it should not be based on location but what the student can bring to the course, instead they want the amount of money an over seas student can bring to the institute. That’s not what education establishments should be about.

Yes they have some good points, visiting practitioners each week (though whether that’s a reality is debatable as I have herd that before from other institutes), and they have an expellant book binding course, though you have to pay extra for it (£30) which makes me wonder if I should contact them to see if I can just do the book binding course as its only 2 weeks.

But what sealed the courses fate was the lack of access... you can not stop part way through a project because they want to lock up the building, that’s absurd, you work until you have come to a point when you have finished not because the building is to close. I could stay at home and save myself the travel expense. Maybe I was spoilt at my last University, well before they put us in the 'shed' where we did have 24-hour access, and we did stay there working, having discourse sections at daft times in the night, and they really helped. If you prevent this all you do is prevent ideas from being bounced around and expanded upon by creative. I don’t know why it seems to be the case but creative seem to work better in a specific room where creative activity should be taking place. Any other seems to create a distraction, but a dedicated creative room becomes just that.

So with all this in mind I will not be going to this institution, they where to disorganised, gave the wrong information (for a communication design course they did not communicate very well with the students about where they should go, no signage, no information, security did not know a thing and let me wonder around unhindered... to promote a course they really need to go back to there roots and communicate better. All they did was put people off. Maybe that’s the point, I can see why one student I knew turned down an unconditional placement, and I think I would now.

It now means I am set to move house very soon as the thing that I was waiting for has happened and its not what I wanted, time to move on.

Well I have finally created the third edition of creative block that I am happy with.

The creative block portfolio magazine was a concept born up from the creative block fanzine featured on these very pages, in fact that forms the bases of the portfolio edition one.

Eventually in the third year I decided to use it as a promotional piece, and thus created another 2 editions representing each year of my course, displaying work created as well as some of the methods I used to create aspects of the project.

But due to all this being a bit rushed, the third edition was being created whilst creating the work within its pages, it was a near impossible task, but a crude edition came out for my degree. They’re where a few mistakes in there unsurprisingly, but now they have all been fixed (I hope) and the layout has changed, as has some of the artwork. In doing so I have finally created something I am reasonable happy with (there still needs to be one or two minor changes, but not quite like the ones I have been fixing for a few weeks now.

So what’s all this for, well I have an open day at Central St Martins tomorrow, and having attended one last year I know they ask to see peoples work and offer people places on there initiative... I have taken the initiative this time around, and thus I have my portfolio magazines to show.

So I will now bind them (perfect binding) and go to bed. Soon I will have more work up on here, very soon... oh and I miss the subscription how different this thing works with out it... no more pretty pictures to make looking at work quicker.

On that note, I will be reviewing people’s work soon; sorry for the late responses I just have been extremely busy, trying to find a new home and sorting out this portfolio. I have had to priories, same with adding work on here. I have the photo shoot for blessed by the curse to add, photos of the portfolio's to take and put up and then I need to start designing the CV edition of Creative Block... as well as buy a new house pack up my belongings etc etc. No rest for the wicked Block, Portfolio, self-promotion.

I feel really special.

I get to see what its like to see how those that can afford or who are fortunate enough to have the full account with deviant art.

At first it was a little strange as the layout is slightly different, gone are the text links and descriptions, but instead you have comments as they feature on your profile in the window... it really makes things easer to see. But the really nice thing is to see thumb nails from the bookmarked deviants I have on my list. At a quick glance I can see the wonderful work of others I have yet to add my comments to. Sorry if some of them have been a long time due, I try and comment on as much work as I can, as people spend time creating expellant work, someone should at least give the artist proper feedback. Something I am happy to do.

Well as it might be quite apparent I am suffering from insomnia again, so I will have to apologise if my writing skills are not quite as good as normal, (generally there never that good in the first place, but now I do wonder how eclectic they appear).

However with this insomnia there is a link with what’s going on in my life, my brain can not shut down, and I have too much on my mind, with people adding yet more things to it when there really wasn't need but never mind, life happens in mysterious ways, but a positive of all this is I have wrote another song. Firstly I must thank stupidtoy [link] go see her work its very impressive for her kind words regarding what I had created. It’s sort of given me a bit of confidence to actually show others. The topic is quite personal, and its something I just don’t talk about but at the start of the year things happened and I needed a release less self-destructive so I chose to write and develop the counter hegemonic idea I have had for a while.

So if you want to read the lyrics to 'a mark of reflection' [link] please feel free to put comments in here as I would like to know what people thing, be as critical as you like, I much prefer constructive, even destructive discourse compared to the passive.

I also have the lyrics for the second song I wrote Self-Hate [link]

Its funny I am finding writing very therapeutic at the moment, I say funny because I am dyslexic, it seem to become a slightly odd outlet for someone that struggles with the written word.

I have already started to look at designing the logo for this project which will fall under the banner/band name counter hegemonic but as yet I don’t quite know what I want, I know what the band photos will look like... I think too far a head sometimes; I have not even started writing the music yet.

So please let me know what you REALLY think, don't cotton candy things what benefit will that be? This really is a new venture for me at the moment, I don’t know how well it will work, I have no target audience, it’s just a way for me to channel my thoughts and things that are effecting me at the moment. In a way I guess it’s a way for people to understand me more though.

Right time to sign out and try and get some rest... thanks to whom ever I need to thank for this honour of seeing the world of the 'special' people on deviant art, its very nice indeed, one day maybe I will be here again, one day...

Well its been a while since I have posted any deviations, though I have not been ideal I just have not been in the mood recently, too many things on my plat I guess, the main one is moving house.

So what have I been up to, well I have done another photo shoot for satanic angel, the images are not bad but I don’t think it fits with the song, which I herd after I did the artwork, told them the concept. Unsure if I should do something else or just leave it as it is, am not being paid to do this its just a portfolio piece for me and good promotion for the future as well as good promotion for them. So far they really like all the work I have done for them which is good.

They have been signed to dead sun records and you can now see there album cover artwork on the [link] shame its slightly discoloured on there site (they used the PDF image I sent them and posted it in to word and it seems to have lightened the entire album cover, most annoying, but I have my art work on there which is nice.

They have also uploaded there official website, based on my designs, but I am not keen on it due to the amount of page scrawling you have to do, so I will re design it so it fits on the page, there myspace page however which I created using mygen I am rather pleased with, more so than my own myspace page which is slowly being re-created as I want something different. Need to add more art work to it and for those curious about what I look like there is even an image on there of me, have a laugh [link] it will be changed very soon, once I work out the coding to make the background image fit the page at all times. I may see if I can use layers in there and have the logo separate from the background image.

I have come up with a new concept to view work which requires people to flick through pages, a short flash animation, I contemplated doing that for my creative block portfolios, but as there 30 pages each I don’t think its too practical, however for when I have completed the satanic angel artwork I will put that in to a flash animation as well as single spreads on here, I want to try it out to see how well it will work.

As for creative block, well I have re designed the front cover for the third issue as I was never happy with it (it’s the logo I use for my icon, which itself needs changing due to it being crap.) The new cover features a tea stain that bleeds on to the back, it looks very odd at first as the front cover resembles a patch of rust its only when you see the back it all becomes clear. The internal spreads have been updated as well as changing the spellings inside (one of which caused a big argument and loss of friendship has been changed as well as the information around the error, she will be happy to know). Some of the spreads have had cosmetic updates as well.

So that needs to be printed off and photographed for this site but also for my open day/interview at Central St Martins on the 7th of March for the MA in communication design. I will be far more prepared for that one this time around. I hope to also have a new CV created by then, in the same style as the creative block portfolio magazine but only featuring work created for others and fits in to my CV, as the CV page now needs to be increased to accommodate all the additional things I have done for people. This will be packaged with the magazines and the CD that contains films and flash animations (still debating whether I should add that to this site as the base image is not mine, it’s the concept I was looking at, I don’t know anybody with a full length rubber cat suit and large dildo so I had to do the wrong thing and use an image by Trevor Watson, a fetish photographer.) It’s a university project rather than a commercial project hence why I am unsure if I should use it or not. Some people have already said yes, but I don’t know, need to know the legal standing. Its not as if its an amazing piece of work, its just rather amusing.

I have also started to write a song as well, but at the moment its too literal, it’s a project I have been looking at for some time now, I wanted to produce something that is based on visual and audio design, something a bit more personal than usual as most of what I do is impersonal, it has elements of ‘me’ in there but its never about me, I want to do one thing that is. The musical project is counter hegemonic (Marxism terminology means, binary opposing of dominant ideology). The songs title is scares, and I have a set of lyrics but as I say there far to literal, I will be taking them in to the symbolic world, as that’s the one I live in most of the time. Musically I am looking at a cross between mortiis, velvet acid Christ, nin, etc, but being more in to black metal than industrial, I am sure that will have a big influence,...

I was asked to design the flyer concept for Satanic Angel, the band I have been doing a lot of the artwork for recently, for some up and coming gigs.

The first thing they wanted was a white log as they wanted to save cost when printing, so I took the logo design I created and inverted it and corrected the colours where needed. Once this was complete I then applied the design to the standard format of A6.

The design had to be light with an emphasis on white, so I played around with images such as the Turin shroud taking the colour out and applying it with the logo and that of some of the other images I have created for them turning them in to negatives and black and white but nothing seemed to work, so I decided on the concept of a purely typographical design.

I wanted to challenges the stereotypical conventions of a death metal flyer using white, clean crisp refined, design no cliché just pure design. I looked at a few flyers from various gigs and bands and they seem to be a bit to cluttered and vernacular for my liking, I am very much of the less is more school of thought esp. on a flyer. You have a limited time to get your message across, why make it difficulty to read?

I am quite happy with this puritan form of flyer so to speak, I am not sure how well it will work, but the band really likes it and I am happy, but wit out more feedback I can never be sure.

These flyers are the first stage for this project, I am also looking at redesigning the concept of a flyer as well, these are more the stereotypical norm, in regard to the size, however I wondered if it was possibly to create a flyer that is credit card size, and still have the right amount of information on it. To do this the card will most probably have to fold (so it’s twice the size of a credit card, on a single plain, when laid flat). These will be created very soon and posted on this very gallery.

But that the next stage, I would like to hear people’s ideas on the work, which out of the four designs people prefer, general comments etc. Criticise if you don’t like something make suggestive comments on how to improve, all feedback is welcome.

Well as you should be able to see I have added two more piece of work, which I created for an interview as a touch up artist for studio 64. No this is not a fluffer for a porn studio, but it’s an image touch up manipulator… I already know what people thing when I say the job title as I have had one or two people look at me rather funny when I have been talking about it lol.

What these two broachers are, are examples of how well I can touch up images and manipulate images in Photoshop. The criteria for the job was someone that could edit the imagery, from removing wrinkles and blemishes to heaven forbid camera stands, as well as colour alteration and other such anomies that you would not want in the imagery.

The was quite a quick project, I had less than a day to produce this and print off two 35+ page portfolios, cut them out and bind them. Oh and buy a suit (which took 4 hours… there are is some crap out there, but I now have a suit that I don’t actually look too bad in, I might be able to pull off this working lark after all lol.

So the work is all created in QuarkXpress, Photoshop and illustrator, is simple but keeps with the portfolio design I use (I will photograph them soon I promise, I just have been a little busy applying for a good few jobs and looking at houses to move to as I despise Barking the area I live at present.)

As for the interview its self, well, unfortunately I got lost go to it and was slightly late 15mins… damn, I just did not realise there are a bout 8 exits at Knightsbridge st, and I just found the one furthest away. The actual studio is very posh, nice layout, though the motorcycle in the entrance is very out of place, I don’t care how expensive it is it is out of place. So the lady still wanted to see me regarding the lateness, and did seem positive about my work, and was even surprised I did all the photography (obviously some people have no idea that graphic designers do more than play with typography and placing imagery on a page, where does that stigma come from??

I don’t think I have the job, but I have learnt a lot from attending the interview, it was very rushed on my part as I had less than a day to get ready, that includes buying the suit so I am rather pleased with myself about how much I managed to do in such a short space of time (phone call at 13:30, interview 11:00 the next day so this mad panic was not because I was lazy but because it was less than 24 hours to get it all sorted out, and for artists that not just about printing out your CV and a couple of samples of work. So yes on that front I am quite amazed at getting what I did complete.

So what’s next for me, well I have a photo shoot next Sunday, I have my two models booked, most of the equipment and a location, I just have to pray it does not rain, but to whom I have not worked out. I may try and get two of the shoots for Satanic Angel done that weekend, one is in a grave yard in Nottingham (the witches circle to be processes) has what I need for illustrating the song blessed by the curse. I will be taking pic's late evening and at night to give myself a range to work from, of one person in a circle practicing a rite and another running around them with lights. Have it on a long exposure to create a sprit type effect with the lights. I will also create some light images so I can Photoshop them where I need them.

The other shoot is for the new track called blessed by the curse. It will be shot in a pub in Nottingham using two people. I will be superimposing their images over the top of each other changing the opacity, so you can see them both. The first images will be of them both sitting perfectly still looking straight at the camera. I want their eyes to be in exactly in the same position so I can over lap the images better. Then I want to use a long exposure shot of one of them moving their head all over the place screaming. The ideas there, I will have a play. So yes I want to get all this done, at the same time as look for a new house and go to a night club called Damage… busy busy bumble bee.

New variations for my forth coming addition of Creative Block, a magazine portfolio I produce containing the best examples of work I have produced over the space of a year, as well as design ideas, styles and tips I can pass on to others regarding how I have created the work I have produced for the various project I have created.

I have put up a logo style sheet to show the different developments I am looking at with this idea I started yesterday. As some of you should hopefully aware Creative Block is based around the design style of a design magazine in the UK (and possibly the world) called Creative Review). The project started off as a fanzine looking in to what inspires me, and the techniques I use, and I thought it would be fun to put it in to something most students in this country consider as one of the holy bibles of design culture, that of Creative Review (though personally I think it has become a bit too much of an advertises ad magazine at times, but the connotations are still there). So form this fanzine I developed it to make a portfolio, one magazine for each year I have been studying (yet to be photographed for these pages… new ideas are taking up my time J) but now its been 6 months or so since I have graduated so I have started to design the next issue, but as Creative Review has gone through a very noticeable stylistic change (to the worse in my opinion) it has rendered this work very dated quite quickly, so time has come to spruce up my one designs and logos.

This is where yesterdays little bit of fun came in to it, the creation of the handle with care, suspect package logo/sticker design, has formed the inspiration I was looking for, for creative blocks own development, yet I do want to keep some elements of the link to creative review alive so the connotations of one go hand in hand with the other, even if it’s a bit more loosely connected than it once was.

So the logos are now up for people to view (well the first stages, all comments are very welcome, and much needed).

If people want to see what the logos look like on the cover, you can go to the scraps gallery and have a look as I have 6 covers in there to make it easer for you to visualise what the logo looks like on a format. Reasons why there in the scraps folder, well there the rough work, there not final submissions there just quick layouts to give people an idea.

The magazine cover only included the sticker I shall be using and the headers as well as the blurb, however I may still ad an image behind the sticker, and that sticker itself may increase or decrees in size as development progresses, these are just experimental rough’s.

So there you go today’s submissions, please look in the scraps folder to see what the logos look like on the final designs proposals.

Fonts include Franklin Gothic, News Gothic and Base 02

And so I must bid you a good night, I need to meet a friend at 11 in Camden to give her he suspect package J as well as take the camera out and take a few snaps of things that interest me, namely textures for layers.

Good night people and stay creative.
Anthony.

Well as some people can see I have added a little more work to this site, this time with out maturity restrictions, so more people will be able to view this work which I am slightly happier with.

I have not put it all up as I have to go back to Leeds as I gave all the things I created for them to the actual team and its now actually in use (bar the tin which was created for me), so when I go back there I will have the full promo shot photo to add to this site (t-shirts, pennant, two 3m high banners etc) I did quite a bit for this project as I started to have fun with the screen printing processes.

I will be hopefully adding one more photograph tonight that of the final embodied badge, but I though I would add the journal and then get that set up and take the photographs.

Most of the work is basic illustrator files but I have saved them as gif then PNG so they will look very low quality, however they are not, I have decided to leave them quite low quality as it will prevent anybody trying to steal the work, or if they do you will be able to tell that is a copy, I can quite happily tell people the Death Cards I got printed are of a very high printing quality (though you would be amazed how backward the printers I used actually where (QuarkXpress 4 and illustrator 8… had to do a lot of resaving to get them in the right format lol, but they look good once completed).

So off I go to take the photographs of the badge the very reason everything else was created.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you like the new submissions.

Well I have had some fun creating these photos for Satanic Angels suffocating at birth and it's now time to move on, any other images I create for this will go in to my photo bucket account, which can be viewed here. [link]

This gallery included the entire shoot I did for Katie (of which some of the images are on here, but its not worth putting all of them on here).

So what is next, well on the 12th of Jan I will be heading back to Nottingham and I have booked a pair of lips for a short shoot as I have some ideas I want to try out. I need to have some imagery on here that does not require a mature tag to view it. Its fun creating the more disturbing imager, but to build a portfolio upon this is not a good idea. I may add satanic angels web page proposals upon here soon, just need to wait until the web artist has created it first as I would not want to spoil the surprise.

The next big job is my portfolio redesign, and at this rate I might have to create another issue to accommodate the new work. Will keep people posted.

Thanks for all the support and encouragement from those that have visited this portal on the web, its very gratifying to receive such complements from such a talented community.

Well what a productive bunny I have been today, I now have put up all my recent photography work for the proposed imagery for Satanic Angels spread on the song title suffocated at birth.

The images are quite disturbing in there own little way, one or two people have had to look twice to realise there not of a child but of a doll and like the new logo I put on line earlier today it was an instant fav… it’s the little things that make a person smile. Actually it’s the fact that someone has liked my work that much they have added the imagery to there gallery its just a nice thing to have happen, it sort of says your work is not that bad after-all lol.

So about the work, well it consists of a £7 doll a friend managed to find for me at Toyland in Nottingham then brought it down to London on the 24th… when I had tucked her in bed I started the first set of pictures and did not finish until 2 in the morning (or there a bouts). However these images just lacked something, it wasn’t until I say an image of a child who had been killed over real-estate (famous quote concerning the middle east conflicts that has stuck in my mind since reading it) that I hit upon the idea of adding blood to its mouth. That little touch has made all the difference to the imagery, without it, it looked like a doll in make up, with the tomato puree in its and on its mouth it adds such a greater depth and believability to the whole thing.

As you might have guessed I am rather pleased with the imagery I have produced and after writing this second journal post for the day I will get off and send the lead singer all the artwork to see what he says about the photographs. I can then add the lyrics and put them in to the correct format.

So hopefully the majority of work has been done for yet another spread, blessed by the curse is the next one to do, but I just need to find the right building to take the imagery and obtain one or two more props for the incantation of the rite. The thanks page imagery requires one willing female to pose… needs to have a perfect mouth as its yet another extreme close up shot, and also need to think about the style of makeup required.

And so to close this off for the night, I hope that people like the new work, I hope the band likes the new work. Apparently in this months issue of zero tolerance the band have one of there tracks on a CD, I am hoping they have used the art work I have created for them with the track but until I buy the magazine I will not know. It does seem like things are slowly moving but I need to do more to get them moving faster, more work, more promotion and more productiveness.

Well I have added a little bit more work to this site; still have a lot to add but all in good time.

Recent additions

CD artwork for Katies photo shoot.
Something I have a habit of doing is creating an identity and promotional packaging for work I do, I like things to be complete and well presented as it gives an element of completion when I am able to do something like that. In this case the digital photos I have taken for her where burnt to disk and given to her for Christmas. But rather than giving her a CD R I decided to design the CD cover and the inlay card just to make it a little something extra. So I have included the work I have done for that project.

Proposal designs for BAF's logo
I have recently been asked to design a logo for a hip-hop artist called BAF after he saw my work on here. I have included the design I have created for him though I am still awaiting conformation of the typeface to finalise everything.

The original BAF logotype I created has been added to the scraps section, did not work, but formed the foundation for the ornate decoration around the final logo. Waist not, wants not.

Will add the photos from the suffocated at birth shoot quite soon, but I need to take one or two more and edit them down to the preferred few, which will then be sent to Satanic Angel to be finalised for the DPS within the CD booklet. I have come up with the concept of two other spreads, that of the thanks list and blest by the curse (if I can not get someone to perform the rite's, though there are other options ) so work is being done, the CV is improving and I have started to look for a new home in Nottingham, as East London is not my cup of tea.

Hope people had a good festive period; for some more is to come, hope you had a good time regardless.

So I will sort out the photos I took the other day and add them to this site...

Oh on other news I have now been on here for other a month, and I am quite chuffed with myself for the number of people that have looked at my work in such a short space of time... it almost inspires you to create more which is a good thing.

Take care and be creative.

Now is the time of my discontent, why thou has been and keeps getting tested to see how far his patience will go I do not know, but finally something has gone right for a change.

I have finally received my digital camera, I have been waiting for a month to get it and have spent most of the day chasing up different aspects of the delivery process to find out where the hell it was.

But to begin with I will put things in a chronological order, first off I received a parcel yesterday with everything but the camera in it, naturally I hit the roof, contacted the company who sent me this joke and asked them for an explanation. This is when they kindly informed me they had run out of stock like I had a feeling was the problem in the first place and had to order it from Australia, though only now did they give me the tracking information. So with this in hand I found it had been delivered and signed for on the 12th of December… so I had to then find out where the hell they had delivered it. After 40 mins on the phone queue I finally received my answer, it was next door.

Why nobody had bothered to tell me the parcel was coming in two half’s I have no idea, why the parcel person could not be bothered to post a note through my door to inform me that it was next door, why my neighbours who must have known I was home, the walls of these flats are not particularly thick I just don’t know. I can only presume the whole thing was designed to annoy me and cause me to suffer from insomnia once more.

How and why people can not do the simplest of things, a simple e-mail to inform me that the parcel had been split and was out of stock would have solved that issue, the post person putting a card through the door informing me that it had been delivered would have been quite nice, and an apologies from the company I bought the camera from would have not gone a miss, and if I don’t get one there review for eBay will be quite condemning.

But now its all arrived, the Nikon Digital D70s has finally arrived, at present I have packed it up in to a camera bag as I need to tidy up the flat ready for people to come down, but it will be charged soon and images will start to flood on to Deviant art, including the shots from my portfolio magazines (the original is already on here, but the second stage is not, and I have to develop them further.)

So after that little drama has been solved I can get back to what really needs to be done, work and promoting myself.

But first the flat needs tidying, I need to make myself something to eat, will put on some music to relax even further then scan all the work I have drawn for the new type face I have created for BAF… soon to be on here for all to see.

If I don’t write anymore on here before the festive period I hope you enjoy it, it’s not a time of year I particularly like but there is no point in not wishing others to have a happy time.

So on that note, until next time, have a good festive holiday.

Oh and I have a new idea for a particularly risqué photo shoot exploring sexual fulfilment, just need to find a model how is comfortable enough to do it.

As you can see, I have added a few samples of a photo shoot, which happened last Monday. They where of a model Katie who kindly asked me if I would take some of her for her boyfriend for Christmas. The shots are of her in her underwear, quite simple and not to revealing.

This is the first time I have taken imagery of a model in a long time so it was an experience for me to try and remember how to interact with the model, and create interesting photographs. Also due to there not being a budget I had to improvise a lot with the things I had, the backdrop is a large sheet of black velvet that was hung from the walls and ceiling (and yes it came down once due to the ceiling being solid concrete.) The lighting was the type you buy for your home, (about 1m70cm high, thin black stands, conical top made out of plastic), to create an effective light out of this I stuck a piece of a4 paper over the opening to defuse the light. It worked remarkably well however the bulbs possibly could have done with being white light rather than tungsten as it did sometimes give a bit of an orangey glow to the whole image.

The actual shoot was to be taken in black and white film, however I wanted to take some in colour using a digital camera just in case something went wrong with that film and I had something to fall back upon, and these are those pictures (well a sample of them).

So this is my return to the photographic root that I left 3 years ago (use to do portrait photography before undertaking my degree in graphic design) I am a little rusty to say the least but this is leading up to another photo shoot which is paid, so the more I practice the better and more fluid I will become.

Thanks to Katie for allowing me to use these images and for asking me to take her photos, and to Lonnie who kindly promoted me to be the photographer, I owe you one thank you.

In other news, I have been contacted by BAF a hip hop artist through this site to design his logo, so this week I will be doing that and hopefully will have that completed this year (logos are not something I am quick at designing) but this time I have a strong idea about what it will look like so if all goes well it will be completed this year J

Well it’s late; I have the Deviant art meet to go to tomorrow so I will bit fair well to all and to all a good night.

I have just completed a photo shoot for a friend yesterday and was mildly surprised with how well some of the images have come out. It is my first time using a digital SLR with no studio lights, so I was unsure of the outcome quality of the work.

The model Katie has kindly allowed me to use the images as portfolio work, so when I am home once more (Sat Sun) I shall be adding that work. I think what surprised me about the shoot was the number of images the model liked out of all I took. It can be quite a common thing for most of the images being rejected, this time it has been the other way around, mainly those in which she accidentally closed her eyes in, so I feel a bit more relaxed about doing more photography, as it has been a while since I have really done any proper model photography.

Also the digital SLR has wet my appetite for doing more creative work, mainly because I don’t have to waste money on film, yet I can get the same style/quality (to a degree of course) of imagery as I do out of my film based SLR. For now I have used the Digital to check the poses and lighting before taking the images with the film based camera, however the images from the practice shoot are good enough to display on this site and thus after the weekend they shall be.

The images will be on line some time next week, I am still away at the moment, have to show a friend how to use his digital camera and interact with a model (almost like proper teaching, which I one day how to partake in) and my own photo shoot which I hope will also be on line shortly afterwards… just trying to find a suitable toy baby doll. The charity shops thus far have let me down.

It also seems I will be attending the London meeting of Deviant art members, with Daniel [link] a friend who is also a member of this site.

Right so I will get back to searching for this illusive toy doll, the things that have to be done for art!

Yet more designs added to the various galleries and sketch book, this time the work was commissioned Seren Couture

These logo designs are not the final designs, there hidden away for when there are needed, as the designer does not want to lose them to art thieves, so until there used by the artist they are to remain a bit of a mystery, as they are not based on any of the other designs, just the style.

So a little about the project and pieces submitted:

The brief was to create something with a Celtic Knot feel to it but had a modern element to overall design. The designs where all created in adobe illustrator and where based at first on pieces of jewellery but as the designs progressed they took on a life of there own.

Future news:
There will be a few more submissions of work soon but due to next week going to Nottingham to do a few photo shoots (one artistic/erotic black and white, another album cover inner art work depicting suffocation at birth (title of the track) and to show someone how to use there new camera and interacted with a live model… I just wish someone would show me how to do that before hand J)

So I must bid you all a good night, thanks for coming to this little portal of the web and viewing the work, and thanks to all those who have commented on what I have much appreciated.

Art work added

The promotional material created for my website [link] and the fanzine I created for university.

This fanzine formed the bases of my major project at the end of the third year of my degree. I turned it from a fanzine to a magazine portfolio, with three techniques and materials forming part of it and then taking three strong projects to complete the magazine.

Each portfolio represents a years worth of university work and the processes in creating that work. They look at print based work; 3D based work (promotions, box sets etc) and moving image and are around 40 pages long. A CD accompanies all three issues with films and flash animations on there.

I will at some point in the future add the portfolio magazine versions to this site in there present form, but first I am waiting for a digital camera to be sent to my address so I can take the photos of the magazine before the big revamp…

Why a revamp, well because I was creating the third issue whilst still doing the majority of the third year projects, it is not as good as the other issues, and there is a big mistake in there which needs altering (when given credit to someone it helps to spell it right DOH! Thankfully someone pointed it out before I started sending them out to people as promotional work).

But the main reason for a re-vamp is Creative Review decision to completely change the style of there magazine towards the end of my project. By doing that they instantly dated my work… thanks, after god knows how many years Creative Review has had that style they changed, … you bastereds! Lol

So that’s the new submissions, more work to add but not in quite the quantity as I have added these past few days. I am not going to put it all up at once and flood this thing but gradually trickle work on here. So two projects needing re-vamping the previous one being the thought equals lost innocence, and the portfolio magazines. Then the all important self promotional work will have to start, the business cards, flyers website, but where to start… Coupled with a few photo shoots more artwork for satanic angel and possibly their music video next year… I am working at least.

I have added another project to this space, something I created in the second year of my degree.

A quick over view of the project if you have not read the image captions is as follows:

‘This is part of a second year university project entitled Squired.

The object of the project was to create a booklet with the theme of 4.
For separate people, had to create 4 separate spreads using no more than 400 words. With no more than 4 typefaces, etc, you get the idea.

As with all group work things did not go quite to plan, the original idea was to create 4 completely different pieces but mix them together to create something that showed the four separate entities but how the 4 could form one. But one of that four created something so out of place that idea had to be scraped and the pages had to follow on from one another.

And so to my section of this project, I have only included 3 of the 4 pages, as one is just a content page/info page, and I will go further in to what I tried to do.

My main aim was to only use 4 words, but create something that was quite meaningful, so I came up with this idea that ‘thought equalled lost innocence’ so I set about illustrating that idea.’

As it stands I am not particularly happy about the project, the concept is there but I can not use three stand alone images as they are, yes they are part of a book created by 4 students but it does not flow, so I have decided to take this further and develop the idea further.

First off I will re shooting the light bulb, preferring the idea of something hanging from a ceiling rather than on the bottom of the page. Image will be in a dark room, I will try for a black background. A long shot with a small bulb in the image and then the words though, being the only one featured. The spread will develop to a typographic project with the other page containing the dictionary meaning of thought… unless I think of something else to use such as a poem or my ideas on though. Because I depict thought as being quite random the typography will reflect this, as well the typefaces. Of which I will be picking 4 just as in the original brief.

The new image will be that of equals, this I have been given a lot of thought these past few days, what is equals and how could it be illustrated? I am at present thinking about using a close up of the bulb, with one half of the page being the bulb and the other half being the background (hopefully a dark colour if not black. I have my two spaces of equal proportions. This might change… again the opposing spread will be that of the dictionary definition, or something I come up with. As its equals, I am looking at two boxes of text taking up the same amount of space, or mirroring the image on the previous page.

Lost will most possibly stay the same as will innocence. The text for lost will be quite randomly placed, and very faint, possibly with some of the letters missing or illegible.

Innocence, will use the same image, and use a tight bundle of words, representing the shell of existence after innocence is lost.

I will be trying out a few new spread ideas, seeing if the image needs to be a full page image or whether it can be a element on a page… things to try, concepts to develop, how this site inspires and makes you want to develop… I can see this being addictive.

So that’s what I am planning on doing for this site.

On other news, I have three photography projects planned for December, an artistic/erotic photo shoot for a friend, a practice/educational shoot for two other friends and internal art work photography depicting satanic angels song suffocating at birth and blest by the curse… I have ideas but you will have to wait and see.

For now its late, I am tired so sleep wins once again.

As some of you may have seen I have added the photographed version of a book I created whilst studying at university.

The book (a one off for now unless anybody would like to take it further than please contact me) takes the notion of 1-1=1 and illustrates them. The concept of 1-1=1 comes from my days studying a level mathematics, and I remember having a conversation where to gain a first at degree level you have to prove mathematically that 1-1=1. Alas I was not the greatest mathematician, but the idea stayed with me as I could for my self prove that 1-1=1 in the physical sense.

This stayed with me for a few years until I undertook my Degree, in graphics rather than mathematics, in which we where asked to create a project from collected images. The sketchbook for this project was born, a small piece of artwork in its self, something I will add to the sketch section, and from this I saw a pattern I had created unconsciously with the images I had sourced, collected and photographed. These where sorted out in to the said categories and I had to stick them in to something.

Tutors beware... I noticed a copy of independent art supplement magazine, so that formed my sketchbook... what I did not realise at the time was it was my heads tutors copy, but it formed one of the most creative sketchbooks I have ever produced.

Anyhow from this I started to develop my concept of 1-1=1 in my head, and the book was born. An excessively large project (filled the magazine), and produced a further two sketchbooks, of ideas, designs and further research.

There are some floors in the concept, but I would like to hear what people think of the ideas and of course of the designs.

More work to come soon, but for now I must sleep.

Well I have finally moved in to the Deviant art space, I am still unsure if my work fits in this portal but I will never know unless I place it in to the waters and see what happens to the ripples that protrudes from it.

I have started with the latest artwork I have created for a band I have been working with (Satanic Angel) and I will be adding more from other projects I have done as well as those I have completed.

I would rather people did not use the art work with out my promotion, but if you do please give credit where credit is due (Anthony Lovatt) is the correct spelling of my name (has been spelt wrong in someone’s art work before and I unfortunately made a mistake in my portfolio magazine not to long ago.

So please feel free to make comments about the artwork that is posted upon my small portal on Deviant art’s website. I will be a bit slow in adding work at first (as most things are created for Indesign or are saved as Tiff for QuarkXspress, so they all need to be resaved to a more accommodating format.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and looking at my artwork, I will endeavour to add more as time goes on.
