Basically, my family has three horses: Buck, Pecos, and Dusky. They're the main horses that are in my photos, so I thought I'd give a bit of information about each one . Be warned. This is going to be a LONG journal!





To put it simply, Buck is my horse (as of June 5, 2006) .

(I'll add more pictures to this as I find the time ).

Color: Sorrel / Tobiano
Foal Date: April 23rd, 1997.
Nicknames: Buck, Buckwheat, Bucko, Buckaroo, Bucks, etc.
Full Name: He's registered with the American Paint Horse Association as "Spotted Doodle Bug," but I decided to call him Buck because it fits him soooo much better than Bug .

Bloodlines: Buck is part Quarter Horse and has Doc Bar on his pedigree chart (Some people who are familiar with Quarter Horses will know why I mention that ).

Background: Buck was foaled in Arizona (near Phoenix). He was only brought to Utah a couple of years ago, so snow is still a different concept to him. He handles the heat around here really well, though .



Likes: Buck LOVES carrots and oats (he's a spoiled brat). He also likes to socialize more than any other horse I've met. Whenever I ride him someplace new, he has to whinny as loud as he can to get the attention of all unfamiliar horses in the area (and he tries to throw a hissy fit if I don't let him socialize ). He's still learning that I call the shots, but I do let him socialize with our neighbor's horses a bit .

Dislikes: Buck REALLY dislikes apples for some strange and unusual reason that I haven't figured out o0. He tries them, but then he spits them out.

Buck was also abused by somebody long before I bought him. As a result, he's really headshy at times. I'm working on it with him, but I doubt he'll ever fully get over it .

Personality: Buck definitely has a stubborn streak. I think his personality stems from the fact that he wasn't gelded until he was seven years old. I think this is also the reason behind why he is so social. Even after he was gelded, his owners kept him in small corrals away from other horses. He didn't know what to do when I first turned him loose in a field . He just stood there gawking at the wide open spaces.

Height: 17hh
Foal Date: April 19, 1985
Nicknames: Either Dusky or Knothead
Full Name: Dusky isn't registered, but my grandparents were thinking about the name Tic Tac Dusky (if they could have gotten her registered).

At the time that Dusky was born, they didn't have a registry for mixed breeds like they do now, so we never got her registered.

Bloodlines: Dusky is also one of Bunny's foals (Like Pecos). Bunny had Three Bars on her side, and Dusky's sire was a Thoroughbred Race Horse named Unaho (I probably misspelled that). Unaho was retired from racing and put out to Stud because he went blind in one eye. Anyway, Dusky gets her massive size from him .

Background: Dusky was born and raised here on my grandparent's farm. They had a guy work with her way back when she was younger, and he said that she was the most surefooted horse he had ever ridden . Unfortunately, they didn't keep it up, and she went 20 years without being ridden.

We never considered breeding Dusky because she has a lot of features that we just don't like (her head, for one).



We had this one guy work with her for a little while, so I've had the chance to ride her a couple of times (she has an amazingly smooth gate!). I don't like the way she holds her head, though. It's always dragging on the ground .

I stopped riding her and re-retired her for a couple of reasons. The first was that I didn't have enough time to work with her. The second was that she's too much like her sister, Star (we had Star put down a couple of years ago). Dusky doesn't just buck and throw a fit - she TRIES to do damage. I figured that at her age, anyway, it wasn't worth the hastle, so I went out and bought Buck! .

Likes: Dusky likes food (any kind of food). She also likes Pecos . They are NEVER apart!!!



When we first got Buck, she didn't like him, but she went into heat and suddenly couldn't get enough of him! rofl! Now they're on really good terms .

2) Where were you when 9/11 happened?: I was getting ready for a humanities class my Freshman year in college.

3) What do you do when vending machines steal your money?: I get really mad, shake the machine a bit, and give up

5) If you HAD to get a tattoo, where would it be? I wouldn't get a tattoo >

6) If you could be fluent in any other language, what would it be? Spanish (If only so I can do two things: chew people out in another language, and evesdrop in the grocery store! rofl!)

7) Do you know your neighbours?: Yup . I love farming communities .

8) What do you consider a holiday?: Erm - a recognized holiday, but not a vacation (sorry - it's too hard for me to get used to the English concept of holiday ) lol.

9) Do you follow your horoscope?: Nope.

10) Would you move for the person you loved?: Depending on the circumstances, yup.

11) Are you touchy feely?: Nope.

12) Do you believe that opposites attract? Sometimes.

13) Dream job?: Owning my own spread. Raising horses. Giving riding lessons again. Writing. I dunno - whatever I'm in the mood for .

14) Favorite channel?: Encore Westerns and SciFi!!!! (I know - strange combo! )

15) Favorite place to go on weekends?: Nowhere!

16) Showers or Baths?: Shower in the morning. Bath at night.

18) Do you trust people easily?: I try to, but people generally have to earn my trust.
