Muahaha!

I had the 1/C firefighting practical Sunday. It really does get better with practice. The bus left campus at 6 with me and 26 of my classmates on board. We got to the firefighting academy 'round 8, and ran in and out of a burning building with a 2'' hose for the rest of the day. My team attacked and destroyed five fires in all. Harder than it looks, especially with fifty pounds of firefighting gear on your back. Damn air packs. And 'sucking rubber' all day is just gross (that's the respirator, people, lolz). Also, my pants would have been better suited to MC Hammer. BUT THE SUSPENDERS WERE RED

The fun part was 'the Maze' where they lock you in a pitch black 3x3 space and have you feel your way out. Wicked. I had to squirm a bit to get out of the chute at the end - I have no idea how some of the bigger guys managed it.

Also, you lose like five pounds due to perspiration in the first hour, so I felt like I'd gone a few rounds with Chuck Norris and Mr. T (at the same time o_O) by the time I got back on the bus.

And now I NEVER HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN.

Unless I go work for MSC. Fire school. Damn it. Still, it gets less agonizing with practice.

Sooo I've got this scholarship dinner thingy in early November, but this morning I just got offered a spot on the plane to this 3-day Maritime Women conference in San Francisco, all expenses paid. The problem is that it's on the same day as the dinner. So it's like, making awesome connections and seeing what the shipping industry is like for women (really, there aren't a lot of us as it's a very male-dominated profession, it'll be an eye-opener) vs. free food and seeing a presentation for a national engineering society which has given me $1000 for teh schooling. And meeting a hella lot of people who will probably want to hire me. Same with San Francisco, tho.

Good choices, but I really wish I could somehow do both, dammit!

Also, the artbunnies are knawing my heels again, *sigh* Pity I have midterms, and the Cadet Engineer exam in less than a month, frick.

Double Also: Martin Septim NEEDS A TOGA.
It's been awhile, yes. But I've been busy. So busy, that you might have noticed that there's been, like, one art post in the past 6 months. If that. Who's counting, anyway?

Anyway, I'm taking a few steps back from HP art at the moment. Those of you who know what SLATE is, looks for more SLATE pics and character concepts. Also, some random doodles and evidence of me, erm 'drilling' myself for lack of a better word. That means lots of practice with rl drawing, esp. people, because I'd rather not be a hack *headdesk*

Soo...Stand by for updates. I've got a few WIPs coming your way.

Title says it all, really. Yup, am getting progressivel more nuts about mechanical pencils. (See lasy, umm, dozen gallery pieces) Yeah. But this Christmas I will really branch out into color some more. The first Great Color Experiment will be for Christmas presents for my family and friends.

Like the Metal Gear poster I promised my twin brother Matt. Hoo boy, have I got my work cut out for me.

I suppose my ickle sister would appreciate something Harry Potterish...Maybe a poster of the Triwizard champions. Hmm.

My roommates: Since none of them monitor this gallery (I hope), I'm planning a Drizzit poster for Chris, a warrior chick pin-up (inside joke) for Estelle, and some Hobbits for Jocelyn ^__^

Susie? Valkyrie! G McD? Unicorn + elf lady! Steve? PIRATE. Andy? I suppose he needs something too, since we're all going to get together...Probably. Maybe he'd appreciate a Tolkein-esque elf? Celeborn? Hmm...(What to make an ex for Christmas...)

My parents? Something with frogs or flower fairies for Mom. Maybe pirates or Tolkein elves for Dad. Hmm...Decisions, decisions...
