And as nothing happens by it's own, I decided to do something I like. Even grave for at the moment - photography. Since my camera broke, I've felt like half of my hand is missing. It's so odd after long time, but it feels again as if taking in the beauty isn't enough anymore and I wish to share it with you again.

Also, inspiration doesn't happen by itself - it has to be provoked. My own words. Time to start living by it. Friend lend me her camera (cute, big, heavy and oh so wonderful) and I got the first photos of many I'm gonna make this few days.

Yet again I'm working in a new place, too, which has given me sort of an ego boost and suddenly I sense a pile of work waiting to be done this year. So, after long time, this year actually started for me now.

I'll post the new photos as soon as I can. I've missed you, friends - it was long pause, but even artists need a break now and then, right?

The best about it is, you suddenly have this overwhelming warmness inside you, thinking on all the hot drinks and amazing sunsets and how birds gather to feed again and how the new part of the year has started. You stand there and no memory passes your head - all is new, no reason to look back and calculate how much you need to bring with you in the new winter. All the memories are covered, hidden away as the yard is.

Wonderful season indeed.

Now. An icon problem issue. Only few thoughts.

After I had this little touchy incident with one about my user icon here, I have become quite interested, which side is right and at to what point fighting for what is right brings results. Well, I'm not going deeper in that, still, I've started going through old pictures I foolishly have downloaded at the beginning of my years around the net and see if I can trace them to the originals. Some of them I did and some of them I didn't.

The question that actually rised from it was, at what point in publishing their art, does the art become the so-called public property?

The easy answer is NEVER! But we're not after easy answers here.

Let's take Angel Sanctuary as an example here. We all know Yuki Kaori, right? If you don't, just google for her. And that's where the problems start - just google for her and you get to know her, you get the exaltation of her beautiful art, you "collect" it and then wanna show your new ecstasy tablet to everyone and you make it into an icon, thinking nothing more of it. I know, 'cause livejournal and blogger itself are full of this. Plus countless fansites that are nothing more than copypaste joys. Then you referre to the artist (the nice give me credit clause) and think it's ok.

Is it ok? To some point, sure it's ok - from artist's point of view you get a free add. Then their work get more viewers and you get to publish something and then even that precious little icon someone made out from job is suddenly a moneymaker and then it's not ok by so many facts and laws. Yet that's the point where you get famous and the net is suddenly flooded with tiny iconmakers, who also consider the cutout/added text icons as their art.

Ignorance is the keyword here. I can't say carelessness, because I think, when the young artist (preteen, teenager, newby) made it, they hardly thought bad of it, but they read the clause about not using other's art and pass it as sniff during a storm. The other end would be the IT-intelligence, who knowingly use other people's art, because it referres to them so neatly, aka porn, sick insulting slogans, twisted ideologies, twisted signs, art... And that's because to them, internet is the ultimate free source and many (I wish I had made that one up myself!) think that if it's in the net, it's meant for everyone everywhere.

So, where do you draw the line, when searching for new icon? At what point do you say, or sense as we hardly ever stop there, that this artist and his/hers work have become a public property? Where do we stop asking permission to use someone's work, because they probably don't have time among all the fans surrounding them to answer or because it's not for money making purpose, it's allowed?

I'd like to say I'm free from this sin, but I can't. But I do say if we want to fight against it, a huge ethical issue has been left out from our education on IT. It's called plagiarism. We talk about it in our literature classes, but how many of you actually relate it with internet and arts? With user icons? IT is meant to teach techincal problems to our kids and youth, so they don't even think this issue should be adressed at all. And unless you yourself become one of the fighting artists, you don't really care and keep allowing yourself that innocent flirt with plagiarism.

So, take the quiz at account now and let's see, where do you draw the line? Mine is getting thicker every minute. Alowing your works to be used on non-profitable purposes is a good thing, but why do those same people are against icons, I don't know. It's probably yet again personal if we allow it or not, if we ask for credit and are happy with it or not and if we sense the point, from which on we just let it go as there is no stop to the flow of icons that all clame to be art.

This actually means than this is my last week as free bird before going back to work and I till then I don't get much around PCs or anything that hums in the corner and thinks it's important to ruin your eyes with it. Hehee, alright, that means I'm doing a little project right now and I'm not around the net much unless searching for information or references. Can't afford spending much time here right now - I wanna do the thing.

I'm sorry it has taken so long - I realised no bigger version of the piece has survived (it does date back to 2001 after all), so I repainted it for you. I have a project in progress. It's not much and probably will be one time only (to me at least for now, it just needs investing time, which I don't always have) and if someone would then wish to do it too, I'd gladly encourage them do it.

So, the idea? Well, going around here, I often read how younger folks are fascinated by comic artists and mangaka and talk about starting their own, but feel too inexperienced to do it - art isn't advanced enough, story doesn't go as you want it, it takes too much time... On the other hand, there is no way you can get the experience if you don't try and in everyone there's a story they wish to express though they can't find the words.

Cutting the intro short, my suggestion would be TELL A STORY IN ONE SKETCH BOOK.
That may seem intimidating, but it's really a paper tiger. We actually do it all the time - draw pictures describing a scene. Now you just do it with characters and illustrate one story instead of many. Illustrations usually don't have text included, so are these pictures silent story tellers.

The aims of this practice:
To encourage young artists to express their stories, to see a picture behind the scene, make them go deeper with their ideas.
To encourage them that working constantly on something, giving yourself a purpose and fulfilling it is not as hard as it looks.
To let them see that they can be their own teachers in process.

The rules are simple:
(Ok, there's lots of explanation added, but the main idea is pretty simple)
1. You take a notebook, pens and eraser or any medium you wish.
2. Think of a simple story that you could fit in four-five sentences. It can be a fairy-tale like, horror or what ever - as long as you feel the need to tell it, choose it. But keep it simple, like a chapter from a book or if you have favorite characters, make a little play for them to perform. Something with start, climax/ evolvement and end.
3. Ok, now that you have the basics, you probably get that overwhelmed feeling of all the suggestions going around and technical support and get depressed looking at all the mistakes you do. Skip them. Forget they exist. The aims of this practice are not the technical abilities, but about getting your story out of you, showing it to the world and evolve among it. Therefore, move on.
4. Write that little story up. Now comes the toughest part. You will need to break that story into smaller scenes that tell the story - add the flesh around the bones. Practically you like describe your story in pictures, writing up few sentences about what that scene would be and what you mean with it and think how would others see it if the characters are not saying anything. Tell me your story by showing me pictures, without saying a word. Number the scenes. Don't think about how many you get - some need more some less to tell the story. Tell the story.
Afraid people won't understand you? That's the fun part - there are just as many interpretations in the world as there are people. We all understand things differently. The aim is that you express how you see it. Let others have their interpretations of the story, the more the merrier.
5. Did you number the scenes? Good. Now take your sketch book and number the same amount of pages. Push that fear of looking at numbers like 20, 30 and 60 back where it came from. You're telling a story, remember - stories can't be cut short just because you won't feel up to it, fit yourself with the story, not the other way around. Continue.
6. Now draw. Take the list of scenes you have written, take any scene you wish and sketch a picture about it on the page with the same number. One picture per scene per page. No dividing the page no words spoken in the scene. If they scream, they do it in silence. Illustrate your story.
Using characters means you draw them the same way, but don't feel bad that you don't get them look exactly the same. Forget about getting the scene totally right, forget the anatomy having flaws, word balloons - tell the story as YOU see it. The idea is that you sketch the story. In a sketch book. Use references if needed, learn about the subject, study the world to get it better, but do it your way and remember, you are learning - you are not expected to be perfect, it's your sketch book.
7. First one done? Continue! The work isn't done before you have all the scenes sketched out. You don't need to finish them with ink or paint - it's a sketch book story.
8. All done? Now you have a whole story sketched out for you. Go through it once again and look at your work. What do you see?

Aparently I haven't been here for long time (looking at the messages and deviations, which are yet again over top long lists), but I had a darn good reason too.

I have been visiting doctors this past few weeks and they kept giving me news that made me wanna cry, and I kept laughing like nutcase instead, which isn't important really, except that they told me that I must again keep back with my walks that they think were too long (only 5 km a day ) and take drugs that if not taken correctly can be bad on my eye nerves and get on my tender belly and like that isn't enough make me very sleepy during the day and that I now after years of nothingless must go and have my tonsils removed as this might be the cause why I have problems with my knees right now and please tell me I did not wright it all in one sentece.

Anywho, I have been sleeping alot this past few days (bro joked that though he has seen me sleepy most of the time since I work, that was too much even for me) and experiences things I never thought would have (like sevear panic attack, which resulted from all that and makes me think there is yet another thing I should scedule as this was darn frightening).

But all together it should be fine again after a month or so, after I have tonsils removed and the first kick of the drugs are fadeing off. It's just all very frightening right now, especially now that I'm not feeling like laughing all the time. Just imagine people's faces when I tell them that I have just disjointed my knee and I am like in need for morphine and I keep laughing like hell - believe me, not a pretty sight as they have alot harder time understanding me. But what can I do? Cry and make everybody panic?

Still, check out the drawing section for a change of enviourment. If I can't go out to photograph, I will propably be drawing alot more.

But I don't know anymore if taking part and working my brains off to finish in time is that big of a deal - just as you finish your work and submit it and feel good for submitting it, you read from the journal that they postponed the date... That takes your mood down as there were about ten things you would have loved to change on the picture, but you wanted to take part so much you turned that urge down and submited it on the last moment anyway. And then comes some good artist, who does it in 4 hours and submits it and your hard work you did two weeks will be unnoticed for good. Now that's sadisfacting indeed.

I'm not saying it's bad that they do it and give the artist the extra time they ask. Just... doesn't it put you in odds?

I wouldn't come up with it, but this is the fifth time already I see something like this and in four out of five I had done the work and submitted in time - on the last one I decided not to partisipate as it would have been too short in time. And then I read from the journal that they have postponed the finish. That not only here, but also outside Da. I try to be ok with it, but I am starting to feel cheeted and rethinking on if I wish to take part anymore if all the work I did will go waisted as I know it will never be as good as theirs because you wished to finish in time. I usually leave about 24 or 48 hours between drawing something, when I do the work for some contest, so I can go over it later and see it differently, therefore it takes minimum a week to finish. I still look at some of the work and wish I had done it differently, but I couldn't because I wanted to partisipate and then it is there, looking done, but I still wish to go over the sky or add some details.

Am I freek to try to be in time or should I just go with the flow and paste something together after the official date in 4 hours as the rest of the punch, who are so good at it and then submit it, after the first official date has set?

I may sound cynical, but as this is becoming sort of a habbit for contests, I am really starting to feel as a freek here.

Yesterday, when I was going home from work I sat down on a pence in the busstation and made few scetches, while watching cars go by.

Suddenly I saw a mid-aged guy standing next to me, observing my work. He asked me for what it was for and I explained I was collecting ideas for a little test-animation. After few words we started talking and we spent the next half an hour talking noting but animation, the programs, how I was planning to make it, if I was part of Eesti Joonisfilm ([link] <- our animation meka? -Yeah, I wish!) etc. He knew suprisingly alot about animation, things an average Joe wouldn't know, so it was very interesting.

Then he suddenly appologised and sayd he was so late! But wished be good luck with the animation.

Ok, I thought, and headed to the bus. Later, I started thinking that I knew this guy from somewhere, his face was familiar and the fact that he knew so much about the little nuances about the topic, didn't give me rest. So, I wondered, where I could have seen him and looked the places up from internet.

And then decided to hide myself somewhere deep. Aparently, the guy I talked with at the busstation is one of the leading figures in Estonia animation and is one of the lectors at the higher art school of Tartu.

Perhaps it was good I didn't recognize him as I would have fealt too stupid to talk to him. But I am so happy I did .

Hi everyone!

First! Thank you all for the wonderful s I've recieved during this month - there are so many of them! Thank you so much!

I am back from my vacation! It was such a wonderful four weeks - I hid myself at country and came to city only to clean ( I also work as a cleaning lady) and write. Which I did mostly in nights. This year's Nano has been really weird to think about it - I've written it only in nights, I had all the systems working already before nano (they have changed much from the original idea, though) and I only fealt like writing when sitting in a small room with some air system filters screaming outside. Well, it isn't over yet - I still have about 4000 words to go and less than 3 days to write it, but if I push myself I think I'll finish this year. .

All I've mostly done, is sleeping and sleeping some more, which is good as I now feel ready for the new year filled with night shifts and all that comes with it.

Also, I managed to draw 3 comic pages! All that during this last week. I am so clad! So far I've done the first and found that I was totally out, knowing not what should follow. And now I have three done and scetching fourth! Well, it isn't much of an art work compared to some, but I love drawing it.

Update: Just finished Nano - all the 50 000 words in 30 days. That would be third then, wouldn't it? 2004, 2005 and now 2007 . I am so happy!

You know, on 4th of October, it's a Pet Day. Well, it's not official and it is kinda commercial, BUT... I love my little bundle of joy and though it is another holliday produced by big companies, I do think she is worth at least one (two if counted her birthday) day in a year, when she is special. not that we don't show it to her every day of our lives.

Anyway, what I want to say I think it would be a good oportunity for most of us to take a closer look of our daily companions and make a portrate of them, to try photographing our beloved animals, try to show others, what is it so special about them that make them unique. By this I don't mean taking pictures while they are sleaping, but when they are playing, watching tv, filling their everyday duties.

It may not seem much, but they will appreciate us spending time with them. Many go out to take care pets loose on streets on those days. That's good too, but don't forget you have some in your homes as well, waiting for you.

17.09.2007: Ok, so some updates on what's going on and such. First, I'm only 11 themes short from compleating the list. Wow. Can't give any dates, though. 26.08.2007: I am so tired- was on high heels for a bit less than 48 hours, which included work, heavy shoping tour with my sister and party to remember. The place was dark and as my camera is not meant for such conditions at all (I always seem to get the worst of outcome), I can be happy for getting at least few goos shots. Still, I woun't be uploading them here (it being a closed event), with one exception.
My sister is going away. Day after tomorrow. To attend College. That will be one hell of a time now and I'll be propably visiting her once or twice a month.
I finally got some canvas to try out the oil paints I receaved for birthday and all the other stuff needed for this medium. Now I have to come up with what to draw...

26.08.2007: Updated my ~astritn6 gallery. Have been scetching and drawing a lot, mostly working on one picture ( [link]). I love it specially, because it's different from how I usually draw and I'm not very good at such conseptual romantic pictures. Hmm, should change the directory...
Updates for this gallery are also on the way as so far all I've done is scanning in pictures or dreaming of long-needed sleep, which always seems so close and yet so far. And on top of it all I managed to broke my glasses in two this morning, so in a way I'm as blind as a mouse.

21.08.2007: Joy to the world! In other words- it's my birthday . And I am so happy! ! I was in the night shift this time and exactly at 6 o'clock in the morning a thunder storm started that lasted till afternoon! That was so beautiful and fantastic. I am thunder storm child - there was one going around when we were born (yes, it's we- me and my sis) and to have thunderstorm at our birthday cheers me up more than any sunshiny day can. Hit by a car. Another reason for me not to consider having driving licence- have you any idea what kind of killing machines they are? But that woun't bring her back. The saddest part is that her pup is starting to realize she woun't be coming back from her morning walk... There are only me, my brother and my father home (that's 3/5 of our family), so she keeps very close to us, even disliking her everyday trips around the garden, only going if somebody goes with her, which I will cladly do.


Btw, Jannu- mom doesn't know yet and I'd preffere it so till she gets back from trip. It's not something to be explained over phone or something.

The view from the window makes me stare it for hours not getting tired of it, the kitchen is totally my own - cooking! I must make something good tomorrow.

Then, I've been writing, after a long silence it really is nice to be able to write again. I fealt so desperate at one point that I turned back to pen and paper and the joy is back! I stare at the lovely paper and can't keep it away! And I read what I had put down more than ten years ago- wow! Sure, it was bad and filled with grammar mistakes and God forbit if it ends up in the net, but it was so... so... cute! I was about nine, when I first tryed to write and I must say a lot has changed and only towards better . And during cleaning the closet I came accross so many ideas I had over the years and haven't had time to do, but still have in my head. Oh, Nanowrimo ([link]) - only wait! And I have a deadline on the book, which I am actually now writing, set on october, so I could consentrate on Nano again.

I desided to try out the sculping. I just got call saying the polymer clay I ordered arrives on this Friday! Wow! I can't wait to get my hands dirty and make my first ever clay figure. Not that I haven't done it before, but I've never used polymer clay before. Got a nice pink shaded skin color . Oh my! I'm in big need for tools!

Receaved Manga Studio Ex 3 few days ago! This program is breathtaking! What an expansion of possibilities- the wonderful curved line tool! I so fell in love with it last night. And I realized all my artwork is in totally bad place right now and I couldn't use it. Hihii, now I feel so excited to yet again warm up the idea of accomplishing drawing manga. Or what ever comic comes out. I even have a 100 pages of ideas and poses and pages with ideas and compositions and such in a box waiting to become a comic. And summer just around the corner, it would be the best time to start it. Remember! Summer starts in 4 days.

Photographing is getting so much more interesting lately. For a while I didn't know, what to shoot, now I manage to see interesting things everywhere I go. And for those, who think you're home town has nothing to photograph in- look around the corner. I mean it. Go. Look. And take a photo of the first thing you see around the corner. I challenge you to do that! And if you still have trouble finding something, it might just have been a wrong corner, so go and look around another corner .

Hanseatic days are coming! On 13th to 15th of July this year . Guess, who's partisipating again- me! My costume is so waiting to be worn. Should take a good look at it tomorrow to see if it is still ok. I cvan't take photos of it though... sad, very sad. But I promised mom that she can take it on a trip to Austria. I adore that country till I die and wish she would take lots and lots of pictures .

My uncle finished Uni. I am so happy for him . And I'm happy for Minni, our 18-year-old dog, for coming out of her surgery and being herself again . And for Elle coming back from China. And for having friends around me (especially Merille, for listening )- I really appriciate them being there for me and just sitting this thing through with me.

It is spring and the weather is nice... and I got myself a little flat with a friend . Just few days ago, so I'm not even sure what to do next . Oh well, I'll figure it out quite soon . It isn't big, but it feels like home and looks like one, too. And it has a bath- something I've been missing for years! I can't wait to get it fixed up.

Oh, little down side- I don't have a computer there, which means I woun't be so active as I've been so far- twice a week perhaps?

It's just... I'm trying to get out of a situation I've been in for more than three years now, but anybody, who I turn to to get some suport, are failing to give it to me and drowning isn't quite the inspiration in my art. I'm empty from trying to make people understand the hints I've given them and it filles me with pain to see they haven't noted anything. So much of having close friends... Even my old solemate made contact again, but it's quite obvious she just doesn't have time for me anymore and I'm really tired of trying to make my plans meet her timeplan as for quite some time I've been the one, who needs to feel special enough to diserve the first contact and the right to have somebody make their timeplans fit in mine. I'd have so much to talk avout, but it's quite hard if you look around and don't see anyone there to listen.

Anyso, it's hard and there are alot in my mind lately, which are only tiresome and troublemaking. I don't want to be one of those post-and-dissapear-for-weeks-guy. It's just hard if every day satrts with rain and ends in dust and heartache. Also, this place was for long time one of the few things that I considered to be a happy place and I didn't want to ruin it for me.

This year it wasn't much different- the fluds came, though not as big as few years ago, and it looked beautiful from the bus window. At least so I thought. Till I went there to witness the sunset on this beautiful area and almost got frustrated by what I saw. The view itself is beautiful yet, but it deffinitely doesn't stand up to any closer inspection- there is trash everywhere and some city folks have not yet understood that IF YOU COME TO BE WITH NATURE LEAVE THE FUCKING DISCO HOME! I do not like guns, but this time I would have cladly taken that bass mashine down. I think they made a BIG mistake with making the place accessable for fishers and birdwatchers. Any bigger nature fan would find the way, but the lack of homey access would keep such bastards away. And no, I am not too harsh as I'm trying to keep it clean from very bad language.

Still, I didn't give up and put up with the noise trash (thankfully the city trash left as the mosquitos came out ) and waited for the big finish. It was deffinitely beautiful, though I would have preffered a bit more greener colors, but what can you do? Got few fabulous shots, one very lovely one and two memory cards filled. The downside was there were no birds! I started hearing and seeing them again after the "civilized citizens" had left, but no water birds . I really woyld have liked to sneak after few or sit tight in bushes. But it was awfully frustrateing indeed to see they had been scared off. I am mad for this! I live next to bird protection area and there are no birds! Next time I cut their radio wires and if I even happen to miss them and end up cutting your breaks, I woun't be sad!

Well, later it was all nice and the birds were singing in the forest and it was all fraquant and lovely . There is this wonderful smell rising from the trees and the ground of the forest just during the sunrise and -sets I can't get enough of. And just because the sounds and smells of the forest is, why I can never live in the city.

Found a dead pixel on my camera- I thought they shouldn't show up on the photos! But it does and it leaves a tiny blue dot. Like finding your first grey hair, though that wouldn't shake me at all, but this here does. Not happy, NOT happy at all.

But I will get that camera in this year number, ok then if it takes the whole year. I can bare that. I guess.

I'm also made up my mind that I shall get myself my very own digital camera, which is not a point and shoot camera. I have played with the idea since January now and finally gave myself a date, which was postponed duo expenditure that couldn't wait any longer, but it will all work out fine, I'm sure. I'm between choosing two very good cameras anyway and would like to make that decision at least a month before the purcase, so I could research all the aspects of getting it. Canon EOS 400D agains Pentax *istDL. We'll see, which one wins.

These series are just so sick- a ladybug that likes to irritate flys, crickets that adore jumping so much they end up on the space, spider that is scared of everything, ant that only wants to sleep... plus a homepage that really dies out for the night- all bugs go to sleep . Still, few times wouldn't hurt if I take only few shots at time and keep it under my coat the rest of the time.

I'm double careful right now- my mp3 player decided not to work anymore, though it was bought only few weeks ago (after getting all those books to listen, I'm quite pissed). Taking it to quaranty in few days. But it makes me very causious towards the camera.

Argh, I want spring already! Then I wouldn't think twise heading out and taking pictures.
