_{Reading a song as a piece of prose or a poem really changes the whole feel of it...

Thought it was time for another journal. I feel quite guilty at how other people seem to be able to update their journals on a weekly basis and mine seem to stagnate for a good 3 or 4 months before I get my arse in gear to write something new.

So, summer has been and gone, and now autumn is well upon us. I have come to think that autumn could possibly be my favourite season... the sound of crunching leaves underfoot, the crystal blue sky with the hint of chill in the air, the smell of bonfires and fireworks and the half-light of dusk and dawn at hours when the whole world seems to be awake.

Christmas preparations are well under way, particularly at work which has been planning since the end of August. Kinda' takes the whole magic out of it really, but I s`pose I'm a bit too old now to pull the Santa hat over my eyes to the whole commercialism of it all. But, the more planning the less chance of it all going tits-up I guess!!

It's Guy Fawkes Night tomorrow... I shall be endeavouring to photograph the event and will hopefully manage to come out with some half-decent shots but we shall see...

I'm looking to get a bit more seasonality into my photos now... I don't get out of Poole or Bournemouth much so I have to use what I've got in the scenery stakes, but I s`pose that's the challenge of being a good photographer - being able to extract something new from an image already seen... I guess I'll just have to keep my wits about me and my mind sharp}

Don't tell anyone...!!!

but it appears that I might just have the makings of a proper photographer type malarkey going on... apart from having my gorgeous Nikon D80 camera with a very reasonable 18-55mm lens... I now also have a spiffing-ly cool lens that makes far away stuff look really really close and I've got another lens that makes really small stuff really big. I've even got a spare memory card and a spare battery too!! So now I can go out cunningly disguised as a photographer, cool eh?

The only thing I'm missing is time... but I don't think they sell that at Jessops...

Thought it was about time... ya know..??

For anyone who has been away from dA for a while it's the most daunting task in the world when you see how many deviations, messages, comments, journals, polls etc... there are to look through when you return. So for the 4,500+ deviations that have been submitted and the few 100 messages that have been sent they have been filed away under the heading "I truly appreciate how much time, love, work and effort which has gone into whatever it is you have done, and I am truly sorry to not be able to view it and/or comment upon it, but there simply are not enough hours in the day" part of my recycling bin...

Currently back in the real world of doing 70+ hours a week with the occasional day off - can't quite get my head around the amount of pressure managers of pubs and bars and restaurants are put under by their Head Office - it's hardly life-saving heart surgery, yet we do 16 hour days, have one day off a week, have our budgets cut, not enough staff and inadequate facilities and equipment, just to keep the fat cat shareholders in Caviar and Cristal... it's like the NHS, only with fewer drugs...

Tired...??

It worked!!

yay!!

I decided I wanted to do something to my journal - so this is it... might have a play around wit it again at some point, now I know what I'm doing!!

Anyway, I've kept all the wonderful images from my previous journal since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month...
