Hi everyone,

just a bit of an update. I'm just finishing week 2 at Animation Mentor. AMAZING!!! I've already learnt so much and I've not even finished my first assignment yet. I think my head may well explode by the end of this. My first mentor is awesome, super enthusiastic and passionate about animation and without a doubt an amazing animator. He is Jay N. Davis supervising animator on Hellboy II and animator on Meet the Robinsons. He was going through some of his shots frame by frame and I was just blown away by how much went into every single pose, frame even, amazing! I'm super inspired!

Other than that I went to a festival a couple of weeks ago, just before starting AM. 9 day juggling festival, awesome fun! Met loads of great people and got to know a few Cambridge people a bit better. Also I can juggle clubs, which I'm quite proud of, hehe.

Anyways that's about it really, I'm having a great time right now, hope everyone is well and as happy and inspired as me

Lisa
Animation ninja in training!

This is it... I'm in, signed up, ready to go in September. I am officially a student again, and at Animation Mentor no less. Cant wait! Eeeeek, excited!! I'll be posting my progress as I go so look out for new and improved animations coming soon.
In other news, I'm setting up a proper web site and trying to set up a bit of a freelancing business to fund a bit of my way through this. Mainly doing graphic design type stuff but hopefully I'll find a few 3D animation orientated clients. Gonna have to learn Blender though cus I can't afford a commercial Maya license, so that might not be for a while.
Life in Cambridge is going great, I'm having a lot of fun at the circus, learning juggling, diablo tricks, unicycling and staff spinning... not set anything on fire yet though... bit scary!! I had an amazing time at the Beatherder festival with Calum (Dr Beard) and my Ben. Saw Reverend and the Makers and a bunch of quirky bands I'd never heard of whilst getting completely mashed, awesome! Thats about it for excitement. My new site will be [link] and should be up in some form or another by the end of the week so check it out next week and let me know what you guys think.

All the best
Lisa
Overexcited AM student!

Not sure of the details yet but I'm in specific need of a modeller in particular although any input is welcome, the more the merrier! Don't think there is much cash incentive here but could be a good showreel piece.
In other news I'm getting my butt into gear and sorting my showreel, setting up a website etc. So there should be some postage soon... finally, lol.
Hi all,
I'm in a catching up sorts a mood, so how is everyone??
I'm good, just rolling with the chaos at the moment. I've been stupidly busy with work, going to festivals, moving houses and the acting lark. It's all going well though, I've got my acting end of term performance tonight *proceeding to bite all of my nails off*, I'm doing a scene from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, playing Clementine. It's a great film if anyone hasn't seen it. (Cheers Calum for showing it to me!). Then after that I start on a summer workshop which is twice a week, so even less time to do everything else! Tis fun tho
I move into my new house with new housemates at the weekend, and it's internetted! Yey, more conversing with the friends inside my computer

Hopefully see people some time soon, anyone know if this reunion is happening?

Lisa

Hello all, I am still alive in case anyone was wondering. My internet browser has been rebelling against me and refusing to let me on devart, and when I try to update it my mac is apparantly not new enough... nice. So anyway I am now firefoxed, and that seems to be working. Not much to tell in term of exciting news. I'm still working at Barcrest Games, which seems to be going pretty well and I've just got back into doing my own work after learning lightwave. It sucks by the way, Im sooo happy to be animating in Maya again... ahh bliss.
On a more scary front, I've just signed myself up to an acting class. Yikes, thats commitment to your artform for you. Just keep saying 'Im gonna be a better animator' over and over again to myself and I'll be fine. Anyone got any self confidence I could borrow??
On the fun side I'm snowboarding again... So much fun should be illegal. Anyways hope you are all well and to those concerned good luck with degree shows. Does anyone know when that is?

Lisa

Hi all,

Hope everone is happy and well. I'm feeling really positive now I have a job offer starting in 3 weeks in Manchester. It's at Barcrest Games, a big company, that seems to be going in the right direction in terms of quality and new ideas. So I am excited to get involved. At the moment they do gambling slot machines but their newer stuff involves touchscreens and 3D graphics and theres the possibility of them going into entertainment coin-ops in the future, so good prospects.

Also went to Sefton Film fest last week. Bit disappointing I have to say, badly organised and some interesting choices to say the least. But it was great to see Ciaran and Calum there, so it was a good trip. Me and Calum went to the infamous Cavern club (where The Beatles were discovered) and The Beatles story, which was without even being a huge fan of The Beatles the best music museum I have ever been to. There was so much stuff there and all the info was stupidly interesting and took you through the story, set to set, from beginning to end. If anyone ever finds themselves in Liverpool, I highly recommend it, even if you're not a fan.

Anyway thats about it for now, other than I an working on traditional painting at the moment in between a temp job and flat hunting. So hopefully I will be posting some stuff soon.

Bye all, stay happy

Hi all,

just got back from Edinburgh the other day, went up to visit Calum who's acting away at the fringe. Their show is really good, I was still laughing the third time I saw it. Well done everyone who's involved.

Went to see a few shows and films at the film festival. There was some really good stuff, generally totally crazy but really funny people and a sketch show in a swimming pool. It really took all my strength not too jump in.

Got to see Ratatoullie (is that how you spell it, I'm not so sure) it was amazing. there were some totally stunning scenes which left me with my jaw on the floor and some really funny bits too. Shere Genius, I love Pixar.

Got to see Cambell's finished film, which works really well, I totally loved the more abstract bit round the campfire, awesome. And congrats to Andy, Alan, and Gordon who's films were in there too and seem to go down well with the audience. Especially Brown Balloon, which got one of the biggest laughs of the show with Cow, Shoe, Brown Balloon. Love it.

Anyways back to the animation, should have another test to post by the end of the week.

Hope everyone is well,

Just been playing around with rigs from rigging101.com. AMAZING, I feel like I've just been released from shackles I never knew I had. Gonna be sticking a few of my animation tests up soon. Also working on some new scripts. All really short, just using them as testing grounds for new techniques at the minute.

My interview in London went really well. They're gonna let me know when their character animation project starts and then I'll be working for 1-2 months on that. After that they're gonna review whether they can keep me, or whether I can be brought on for other projects in the future. All good tho, professional experience, just what I need!

Hope you're all well and havin fun, gonna be in Edinburgh next week if anyone's around.

Bye for now

Hey all! Bit of an update.

London was ace, a real eye opener. Got some great advice and made a few contacts. Main points being I need EXPERIENCE and it's really hard to be a character animator, cuz that's what everyone else wants to do too. But that aside, it was all positive and I have more of an idea of what people are looking for.

First reply from a festival, Edinburgh = No, SUX!!!!!!!!! Not too happy bout that but hopefully I'll get into at least one of all the others I wasted my time and money on! GRRR!

I'm now officially moved ot of Dundee, back in Leicester now. I will miss everyone up in Scotland but I'm coming up to Edinburgh for the Fringe/ film fest so I'll hopefully see some of you there.

And finally on a bright and positive note, I have a meeting next week in London for a character animation job! Yeeeeeeeeeeeep! (I don't know what that noise was supposed to be but I thought 'yay' didn't quite cut it)

Anyway, bye all for now!

So I finished my 1 and a half week temp thingy at Axis Animation last week. Didn't get to do any creative stuff though, it was killing me to be in that kind of creative environment and not allowed to join in. But hey, I think it was a positive experience, I got some new contact, got to sit in a few production meets and generally see what it was like in a pro studio. I got some ace feedback and advice from one of the directors there who tore my film to bits, but in a good way. Everything my tutors should have been doing. Grrrrrrr!
I also graduated yesterday that was fun, I walked onto the stage and got hit on the head, now that's what I call a ceremony, lol. But seriously, my butt hurt. Garden party was good though and robes are fun. I miss them.

Bye all, off to London now!!
