Had to happen sooner or later, I guess. But I have to admit to being a bit pissed off. At least they aren't selling them.

They have included an itsy bitsy little link to the website at the bottom, but they certainly didn't ask for permission to host them.

I've emailed (in english, obviously) to ask them to remove the patterns, but I'm relying on dodgy internet translators to navigate the site and I'm not making a lot of progress.

I had never heard of it, and when I told my 10 year old this, she looked at me as if I'd just grown another head. Real life is on the downhill slide towards the end of the year, which just means it's picking up speed and out of control. Making stuff always seems to get shunted to the end of a very long to-do list. The only things lower on the list are calling the tax department and scrubbing the walls in the bathroom.

This weekend is already a write-off and its only Saturday. Next weekend, however, I have a date with my sewing machine and then another with my website. I hope to have actual pictures of actual finished stuff.

It is expected to take 25,000 light years to reach its intended destination, and is an attempt to communicate with any extraterrestrials out there. The Arecibo "reply" was a crop circle that showed up about 20 years later in a field by a SETI lab. Both the message and the reply are now charted, waiting for you to stitch :)

What is it about gamer cross stitch? You wouldn't believe the response I've had to Kirby et al. It's kind of scary.

I've had more requests over the last week than I've had in ages. Several for Cloud (accompanied by much fangirl squeeing and I must be getting old but he doesn't push my buttons at all), Megaman, Mario &c. And it gets real specific, like not just this character, but this character from this part of this game, with this equipped and I'm all like, I watch anime, I'm not a gamer, what game are we talking about again?

I won't do Mario - long story, don't ask - but I've charted some quick Megaman patterns to keep the ravening hordes off my back for a little while.

The idea of blending old fashioned craft and new fangled technology isn't particularly new, but there seems to be huge interest at the moment in fan-made merchandise. Pixel quilts are big on etsy.

(I'm about to make some generalisations - the primary one beign that the craft resurgence is being driven by girls. I know there are exceptions, but the giggly squeeing emails I've been getting are not from boys. Nope nope nope.)

Are girls finally fed up with being marginalised in the gamer world (accepted at best as honorary boys if their gaming skillz are mad enough, at worst, being relegated to coffee maker and ego-stroker)? Is this a way of making it okay to be a gamer grrl? Rebranding the feminine? (There's probably a thesis in this...)

Or, is it more mercenary than that? Etsy, especially has given anyone with a talent an opportunity to see if it sells. And, unfortunately, anyone without a talent as well. Is it simply a case of people trying to make a buck off anything that they think they can get away with selling?

Feh. See what happens when Mojo is stuck at home with no adults to talk to?

Okay, so, month two of the journal quilt project. Theme is new beginnings. Doodad is a little wooden butterfly charm - just under an inch across. I grabbed a fat quarter pretty much at random - a purply blue batik, and a cream one to go with it.

New beginnings. It would be too easy to fall into cliche and stereotypes - seeds and babies and whatnot. So I went looking for some inspiration.

In a couple days my pattern site will hit 50,000 page views. (10K Kiriban was Jan 14th, so my head is spinning a bit over this one)

I've slapped a couple new patterns up in commemoration of Significant Round Numbers. [link] I'm posting them early because I'm not likely to have time in the next couple days - work is pretty mental.

I'm not a great fan of chocolate, you see. Easter eggs...meh, take em or leave em. Hot cross buns are the reason for the season, my friends. But not with peel. Peel is nasty. Currents and raisins and cinnamon. Lightly toasted with a little bit of butter. Ahhh! Is much wonderfulness!

I have finished the postcard swap with my local quilt shop and have started a mini-quiltlet journal thingee.

The theme this month is Things that are close to my heart. The doodad that we have to use is a little heart charm.

The irony here is that I hate hearts. Always have. Won't use them in my work. Grrr. They annoy me in so many ways.

And now, my first quiltlet is based on this idea of things being close to my heart. My first though, which probably tells you a lot about me, was lungs, ribs etc. And I might play with that idea a bit.

I'm not quite finished - there's some tweaks I have to make to some of the earlier patterns - there's a knack to charting sprites that I didn't really get the hang of until I'd done several hundred of them (what can I say, i'm a slow learner...) But they can wait a little while.

And I spelled so many names wrong. I'm sure there are some where the gif, the pdf and the screen name are spelled 3 different ways and they're all wrong. I am past caring. I'll go back and fix it later.

In other news, I have been house-sitting for a week in a place that has a tv. I can feel my brain melting as I type. Only thing that kept me sane was the music channels and reruns of Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. Fosters totally kills me.

I don't see tv very often, so its been quite an eye-opener. Reruns, real estate shows and crime dramas. WTF? Two nights in a row I flicked through 60 channels and found complete bollocks on every one.

Ignorance was bliss, s'all I have to say.

Title says it all really. Anyone know if there are any on the net? I've had a request from a friend to find some. But so far, I've found some half-done house shields and not much else. :frustrated:

There's lots of patterns for sale that run to about 300 x 400 stitches that are just movie pics or fan art run through pattern maker without even trying to reduce or consolidate the colours, but my friend is totally not interested in those.

Apparently DMC put a book out in French with HP patterns and I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has acutally seen it - is it worth tracking down? Looks pretty hard to get hold of. [link]

Any help would be appreciated. :worship:

OKay, so obviously not for dA - I'm still limping along the road to seven hundred page views - but on my anime patterns site, I will today reach 10K.

Not bad for a website that's been up since mid-September 07. The very first of the patterns on the website, a Naruto pattern that also happens to be one of the most downloaded, was designed on August 20th, 07. There's now something close to 120 patterns and between 150 and 300 daily page views.

So, in honour of reaching a significantly round number, I have put up 10 brand new patterns and I'm hoping there's something for everyone. Here, as always: [link]

Big thing: Sir Edmund Hillary, mountineer, adventurer and all-round good guy, passed away this morning at the age of 88. He was the first person to reach the peak of Mt Everest (May 29, 1953). He established Scott Base in Antarctica in 1957 and travelled from Scott Base to the South Pole on a modified farm tractor in 1958.

He established the Himalayan trust in 1960 which has built schools, medical clinics and hospitals, and was instrumental in the formation of Sagarmatha National Park in the valleys below Everest, now a World Heritage site.

He was the only living person (aside from the Queen, obviously) on NZ's banknotes and was named one of Time magazine's 100 heroes and icons of the 20th century.

Upon descending from Everest Hillary uttered the phrase that NZers will remember forever, "Well, George, we've knocked the bastard off." An overused cliche now, but our cliche.

Goodbye, Sir Ed. We will not see your like again.

Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts and words during the Weekend of Doom. We are all much better now and life has returned to normal.

I've made a lot of progress on christmas presents in the last couple weeks but can't post anything because several of my family members read my journal. (Hi mum :wave:) Photos after christmas.

:icondarkknightlady: asked for a pattern of baby Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club. I looked at the little fingers and toes, went away for a little while, muttered to myself and decided it had to be done with backstitch. I wasn't going to get the detail otherwise. And then I remembered - it isn't just that I hate backstitch, I suck at backstitch. The pattern is big - there's a lot of brown - but it's pretty simple. I freaked out the other day - I ordered some stuff from deviantwear and it arrived at my house ten days later. Ten days. Shocked and stunned I was. Shocked and stunned. And I chose the cheap postage. I'm used to waiting anything up to four weeks for stuff to arrive from the States. Wow.

Gotta love summer holidays. Seven weeks of sun and christmas and no work. Yay southern hemisphere!

After the craziness of term 4 passes and I walk away with my sanity barely intact and my brain in shreds, I will have the time and energy to get back to some x-stitch patterns.

For the first time in forever, I have no requests, so if you have something specific you want, bring it on. Give me as much detail as you can - a ref pic is always good otherwise I go off on my own tangent. The level of complexity you want - size and colours - is also good.

My bad.

So, couple quick patterns - Squall's Griever from FFVIII and Captain Bravo from Buso Renkin (acutal image borrowed from Jump Superstars).

Griever's too simple. Wayyy too simple. But that's what the lady asked for, so that's what she got. It would actually work quite well as a knitting pattern, I think.

I realised tonight while reloading the site that I am perilously close to 100 patterns. 100 sounds very obsessive compulsive. *cough* Ihavenolife *cough*

In other news, I went to Te Papa Tongarewa today [link] (Museum of NZ) and they had this incredible embroidered and beaded ark curtain used in the first synagogue established in New Zealand in the late 1800s.

It was exquisite.

In other other news, I went to see an exhibition at the local art gallery of models of Leonardo DaVinci's machines. Wow. Just wow. Brain. Hurts. I never realised how cool bearings are.
