The seven judges deliberated carefully, and we tallied up the results using a rather fabulously clever point system of ^ShoneGold's devising.

Our immense gratitude to everyone who participated. The quality of entries was uniformly high. Truly, the judges had an embarrassment of epicurean delights to pick from.

It's been a busy summer for Icons, but y'all are so responsive, creative, thoughtful, cantankerous and just plain fun that you make even the more frenzied moments a joy. Many shameless glomps all around.



deviantART's seventh birthday festivities are the gift that keeps on going. Icons, Pixel Art and Dolls have joined forces in the name of gustatory excess. So far we've gotten a great variety of entries and we still have two days before the deadline.

So put down that donut and make an entry by August 14th. Be sure to note me or ^ShoneGold a link to your entry.


The Blithering Idioms contest is officially closed and the judges and I are working on a system to cope with the amazing depth and breadth of the entries. We realized there is no way in the world we could pick a single top three from 162 pieces of awesome, so we're going to split the entries into three major categories with first, second and third place prizes for each.

Add to that a bunch of special awards, and hopefully we'll be able to show concretely just how impressed we are with y'all's genius.


I'll be putting together that Adopt-a-newb idea I mentioned last journal. A bunch of people have volunteered to help out, but the trick is to involve people who are new to the community and haven't heard about the cunning plan.

Once the campaign is going, I'll put out a call for people to let people know about the event via deviation comments.


It's been a tad challenging picking DDs over the past couple of weeks, because so much great work has been happening in contest entries, which I can't feature until all the judging is done.

I'm thinking the next couple of weeks will be dedicated to showing some DD love to the many wonderful contest entries, winning or not.

Meanwhile, keep the suggestions coming, please.

In honor of deviantART's seventh anniversary, the Icons, Dolls, and Pixel Art galleries are throwing a Rabelaisian festival of gluttonous excess. Just make any icon and/or any pixel drawing with a gluttony theme over the next 7 days and win one of our fabulous prizes:

• A 12 month sub for each of 3 first place winners


• A 6 month sub for each of 2 second place winners


• A 3 month sub for each of 2 third place winners.


• All 7 winners get their choice of a lanyard or a patch.

I understand that sometimes left-clicking accurately can be a challenge. I'll gladly move your little resized anime' screencap avatar right along to the proper gallery just as soon as I'm done reporting it for being the shameless copyright violation it is. I'm just generous like that.

I don't even mind when you don't respond to my courteous comment about what belongs in what gallery, or when you tell me to "stfu" and leave you alone. I'm all growed up now. I can take the hit.

But when you proudly trumpet in the description itself that you've dumped your piece of shit emo assprint wherever just so you can get it hosted for use in your piece of shit emo assforum, well, I gotta tell ya, that makes livi not too happy. And when I'm not too happy, I have this irresistible urge to call your parents and ask them if they know you ditch school to smoke reefer and steal hubcaps every Monday, Wednesday and twice on Fridays.

So should you suddenly find yourself in military school, or one of those pre-juvie programs for petty criminal loser shitheals such as yourself, you have only yourself to thank.
