I went to my textiles assessment and I was very upset by the end of it. I pinned my work up and all the textiles teachers looked at it. They had a few positive things to say about my ideas, but overall I got quite a negative impression. One teacher, who had NEVER taught me before, said brutally that she didn't think I had the commitment to do textiles, and wondered if I were doing a double degree (as surely I'd done so LITTLE work..er.. :S that only other uni commitments could possibly explain it..)
Now...I admit that I am not great at visual diaries, I do my best but in the end I think that the work is more important than a ridiculous manifesto about it. The teachers complained that I didn't do enough drawing (what drawing..I bet they'd complain about irrelevant drawing if that was what I'd filled my diary with!), enough experimentation (so what, 50 crappy half finished "experiments" is more worthwhile than doing two good, finished projects?), enough research, or enough writing. I'm doing my best, and I actually don't think it would be any more possible for me to do more work without sacrificing the rest of my life. One girl I know stays up until THREE every morning just to do all the freaking work they expect! I already did so much work I got RSI and the skin on my hands started to crack...
The head of textiles said that I needed to go to more exhibitions and lectures (oh really, when..I do 35 hours of uni a week and I sure as hell don't want to donate my precious weekends to exhibition hopping!) and also if I didn't do enough experimentation my work would be worthless as there was no foundation for it to rest on.

Aaarghhhh! I actually don't know if I can stand two and a half years more work if they're going to be that demanding. I probably am overreacting, as apparently they were just as mean to everyone else...but I do very much feel like taking up the offer of the printmaking and drawing teacher, of changing courses. I love textiles but I'm a jack of all trades and can surely try my hand at something else...especially if the teachers are going to expect me to be some sort of textiles slave. I'm sorry, but I refuse to donate the rest of my life to the noble cause of natural fibres, or whatever.

I think in a way textiles as an art form cultivates a bit of an inferiority complex in the artists, because textiles has always been considered a mere CRAFT instead of a proper art form so they expect us to be complete wankers about the stuff we make, just so we can get noticed.

If anyone else at ANU had such a crap experience at review, please tell me..are the teachers of the other workshops as mean?

Oh and I promised a musical interlude for you. Well..naturally I'm a massive camwhore as you may well know, although I do my best to make the videos and photos I make at least partially worthwhile. The whole week has been full on. I've ridden a bike through a rainstorm, I've fallen off my bike while trying to carry life drawings, I've been sunburned trapseing around looking at sculptures (I don't even LIKE sculptures!)
I've picked up two zippers, I've gone through rather more money than I would have liked to. I've learned how to make string, and how to dye things with leaves and bark. I've learned that cotton reels warp hilariously when you put them in a boiling dyepot for a few hours. I've done life drawing..I've met people..some of which are really overly familiar, and some of which are stand-offish. I've also been advised to go to zillions of exhibitions..and truth be told I don't want to..I'd much rather have my weekends, completely free, with opportunities for rest and recreation, than have my whole life SWALLOWED by art school anymore than it already has been. I don't CARE if I get lower marks, I'd rather have lower marks than less of a life
In some ways I'm not super happy with it, it's been boring, tiring, depressing, exhausting etc etc...but it's also interesting and fun and social. I've wondered whether I was doing the right thing but I also realise that if I weren't there, I would be..what..? Sitting at home? Probably not doing much more interesting.

- If anyone thinks uni is easy, or that art school is also easy, they're lying. I have to be there 5 days a week, at least 9 to 3 each day. Thursday was 9 to 5. Trust me, this takes a toll. Yes, I do get a lunch break of one hour.

- I need closed shoes so I'll have to clump around in blundstones all year or something. I'll be the hilarious blundstone dyke.

- Speaking of being the blundstone dyke, I have to come out to the people I"m meeting at some point. How nasty. I'll probably just turn up wearing a shirt saying "ask me about being gay!" though knowing some people..they'll think it's a joke.

- There are no super hot girls there...just a few pretty ones. The best looking person is a guy, he's very attractive, but he's a GUY. For ladies, I will probably have to go look in other faculties. Or just give up while I'm ahead.

- Coming off your bike HURTS. I got my leg stabbed by the bike chain but that doesn't hurt as much as the bruise on my knee and the graze on my hip

- I will probably not be super active on DA as much..I don't think I'll respond to comments and faves nearly as much..I just seem to lack the energy.

- I'll have no money all year, and I doubt I'll have the energy to work either.

Fun, fun fun! Well..that's about it. Maybe I should have done something else with my life? Not that I know what..either. I seem to think that my life will be over in a few years..that seems to be my mindset. Probably not too healthy. I'll be 20 when I'm finished uni. And then what? Arts seems like such a stupid, dead end career. Even music seems more promising and less shite. I also hate the art world, I really do, I can't describe why I hate the combo of dead gallery space, pretentiousness and the idea behind the art being more important than the art itself. There's something about the whole thing that bores, needles and depresses me. I don't want to be a part of it. So why am I even doing this? I should just learn to play guitar and join a crap band. Even that sounds better.

I have been given TWO offers for university (ANU) porfolio entry - school of art. I've been offered a place in Printmaking and drawing, and also in Textiles. Considering the latter only takes 8 people a year and I'd put it down as my second preference, they must have been really impressed by my stuff!

OK..this is some..well, sort of like a "meme" but also a bit of a "contest" that I'm proposing (it's like a meme in that I'd like other people to do it if they want, and they won't win any prizes, and it's like a contest in that I'd like to keep track of the "entries" as it were.)

Basically, I was cleaning my room today (fun fun fun or not..more like "dust dust dust") and I came across a whole lot of artwork that I'd done 2 to 5 years ago..some of it was just awful! Some of it though, I could see that I liked the idea but lacked the skill and maturity to achieve it at the time.
Now, as everyone knows, you learn all the time. You always improve at your task (and if you don't progress..well, I'm sorry but UR DOIN IT RONG ) and although the stuff that you did years ago may have been very good for your age/level of skill, if you were to do the same piece now, it would be improved. So..what if you were to "remake" your old art?

So..THE REMAKE CHALLENGE
There are a few different things you can do.

1. get a piece of your old art that you can improve on, and redo it!
Make sure to show us a picture of your old artwork so we can compare. I think did something like this [link]
(and yes, this includes photographs)

2. Interpret/recreate an old work in a different medium..this can be your work or someone else's (make sure to be nice..and ask permission!)

3. Interpret your old work/someone else's work (if you want an old work you consider crummy reworked by someone else this would be interesting if you could get someone to recreate it..) by redoing it in an entirely different style. It was a painting? Make plushies out of it! It was a brooding artistic nude? Draw it in chibi! It was a piece of poetry? Illustrate it with ascii art! You get the drift...

So yeah, obviously there aren't any prizes but I just think it'd be fun to do, hopefully other people think so too!
Yeah, I know I don't have the longest watchlist in the world, hahah, but I can promise that if a lot of people do this I'll feature some of them in my journal.

Anyway. I know I'LL be doing it (man some of my old work was crapisto, you can laugh as much as you like when I upload it.)
Well I'm going to go now cause I have a splitting headache and it feels like my neck is about to snap off. Serves me right for talking online to someone in Britain for..let's see..4 hours! It was probably worse for him, considering the time difference had him talking from 12:40am to 4:40 am his time!

And in other news..I'm nearly finished school, had my last classes EVER on Friday, yes, yes YES! Just shitty stuff like applying for places and a few dumb little boxes to tick..grad mass etc...blah!

In other news, I had a fab time in Melbourne. I went to see the art deco exhibition, and I saw the whitlams perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which was just amazing. Also went to several rather nice restaurants.
Unfortunately upon returning I found out that my threadless sub I'd tried so hard on got only 1.87 out of 5. I feel very disappointed, I thought I did a really good job, and I didn't really get any negative comments!
It's holidays now, and I'm so pleased. I will be sewing, and filming, and I'll paint some nice pictures too probably. I have my plans

The quality of their printing has vastly improved (now you can get all sorts of effect inks!), as has their colour range (8 instead of 4, which it was when I started.) The prize value has also gone up a lot.

But that's not the reason. I was ultra tempted by Threadless loves Drawing, where you create an original design based on a drawing.

I've never understood why so many gay people conform to the gay stereotype (are they naturally like that, or do they adopt it later because they feel that's how they need to be?)

My main concern, however, is female stereotypes.
Females are often stereotyped as being overly sentimental, romantic, nurturing etc.
Now, a lot of female identity is based on the trappings of heterosexuality (boyfriends, white weddings, babies etc,) which is fine for most of the female population. Unfortunately it makes me feel not so female because my mind is not in tune with the general populous.

I just don't understand why so many females have to be so romantically gushing and goopy. I am sick of people obsessing over celebrity crushes (women seem to do this more than men, and commonly have delusions of marrying the person in question.) I am also sick of being told that I am not "human" or "normal" for not liking, say, The Lion King (I thought it was cheesy and unrealistic when I was 6! I understand liking it when you are little, but surely by age 18 you should have grown out of it.... and it's not..."so sad", more like "so cheesy.")

I also seem to be the only girl on the entire planet who does not like babies. I don't want to go and slaughter them or anything extreme like that. I just...well, I don't want them. I don't find them cute at all.

And I don't understand why everyone goes "Awwww how cute" when they hear that their friend has a boyfriend. Having boyfriends is only what MOST of the female population end up doing..it's not cute..it's the norm. How is it cute? It just..is? Um... I just don't understand how it's cute.

Boyfriends, babies, fluffy little kittens are, well they are nice if you want them but you have to understand that not everything is perfect and fluffy. It's called a commitment. It's called work. You have to work at a relationship or at raising a child. Don't delude yourself - be responsible rather than being romantic! Yes, it's all very nice but don't be unrealistic about all this stuff.

Call me cynical, but I'd rather be a cold hard robot than be ridiculously fawning and syrupy about everything. I'll trust my own judgment in the end.

(How come men aren't goopy about babies and relationships? Well, I guess they are to some degree but not nearly to the same level)

My neck fixed itself up, but I did bruise the hell out of my left foot when I did a humiliating dance on retreat and it twisted underneath itself.

Retreat btw, was terrible. I found it really insulting to me as an atheist, as a lesbian and as a woman. They favoured only one particular interpretation of Catholicism and refused to listen to any other viewpoints, as well as we received a strong warning not to "misuse our sexuality."

Total crap.

As well as the fact that it was freezing and the food sucked.

But yes, I've complained about it enough so I'll leave it at that.

At the moment I am presently feeling oppressed by the huge quantities of fabric I find myself with so I am making a number of strange garments (wait, aren't all my garments strange?)
I enjoy the feeling of control I have over what I wear, and the incredible creativity (I can make a snap decision like "let's put some lace on here!")
Nothing is about planning. Everything is about what I feel like, and it's great fun. I realise that my sewing skills are probably only basic (as if I can read a pattern ) but...well, it's more an exercise in creativity than being meticulous and perfect. In a way, the stuff I make is more artistic than fashionable.

So yes, might be some photos of all of that later, if Em will help me (so much stuff! So little time) I only really upload things I think are really rad; nothing basic. So don't worry, you won't be COMPLETELY inundated.

I think I am making a tailcoat next. Do I know how to make a tailcoat? NOO! I'm making it up

I woke up on Friday and my neck had locked into position. Moving it too far to the left hurt. Moving it to the right at ALL killed. Moving it back hurt. I can only move it slightly to the left, and forward. My neck muscles are getting TIRED of this!

It's Sunday morning, and my neck is still like this. Neither wintergreen nor magnesium have helped, and I can't crack it back into place..I have NO idea what to do.

I have to go on retreat tomorrow...3 days away from home, 3 days which I am not looking forward to at all. Can I just say I'm an introvert and I hate bad food and community activities?

This would be bad enough as it is if it weren't for my STUPID NECK! Oh fun, 3 days off in some camp with my head PERMANENTLY jammed to the side. Great!

People keep wondering why I'm grumpy, well, not being able to move your neck really gets you down. It's restricting my ability to do a lot of things and I feel awful when I waste time...

AARGH!

In other news, I was planning to do all these things but I can't now. I have this bloody picture hanging over my head which I was going to finish this weekend but now I can't.
They will have to wait.

So..anyway.

I have 15 weeks left of school...for ever! (well, roughly around that amount.)
I need to keep this in mind. This sort of retreat bullshit only goes on for so long, and I really don't have that much time left.
It would just be nice if my neck would stop playing up.

Ok. Well this is just one of those things that I thought of in light of recent events (viz my friend requesting several times for me to kill a huntsman spider who was relaxing on the wall of my house.)

I know there are a lot of people out there who hate spiders with a passion, and I can understand that, because they are poisonous, and yes, they have 8 legs and most of the animals we like are bipeds or quadrapeds, and yes, they are a bit scuttly.

I have people request that I kill spiders for them, and I have also had people so horrified by my posting a picture of a spider, that they filled the thread up with posts so that the thread would go to a new page and they would no longer have to view it.

But I like spiders. Ever since I was a child I have enjoyed the presence of huntsman spiders in my house. They don't weave webs, so there's no mess, and they eat insects that you don't want hanging around. They're like little friends keeping you company.

There are a lot of spiders in Australia.
Personally, I think that if a spider is not dangerous (and huntsmen are mildly poisonous, but non-aggressive), and it doesn't cause a mess, than why kill it? I will kill cockroaches, they spread disease, and I will kill flies and millipedes and mice and rats, but I leave the spiders. I personally don't think you should kill an animal simply because you hate it. If killing it will provide a substantial benefit to you, or if the animal is dangerous or disease spreading, than that's a case..but if you just don't...like it, then why kill it?

I have never been bitten by a spider in my life, even when I was a small child and I frequently handled them.

It's the same with bees too..people who freak out when a bee FLIES PAST THEM. Bees are non-aggressive, and they will not sting you if they are near you! I have only once been stung by a bee, when I put my elbow on it by mistake when climbing out of a swimming pool. They're quite tolerant animals, and will generally only sting when there is a threat to their life.

So to sum it up...if someone asks me to kill a spider, I won't do it. I'm perfectly happy to put it outside (which I have been known to do), but I don't see why I should kill it for you.

I've just noticed I keep having Radiohead as my played music This is probably because I have more Radiohead than I do any other band. They're in the bargain bin a lot!

OK. Well before I collapse into my bed and have dreams filled with scores of crowing cockerels, I'd like your opinion on a few things.

I went to a chook show today, and I saw a lot of rare breeds. I did my best at taking photos of them. They're not the most amazing photos compositionally or anything, but I think they make decent stock so I'm sticking them up here. I'm sorry if this upsets you. An affinity for fowl is not something widespread, most people don't seem to like them very much.

However, these wonderful chickens might convince you to change your mind. More photos will come soon.


I also did a bit of a photoshoot with Em today. This was supposed to show off a top I'd sewn, but it was fecking cold out there so it got covered up with a coat pretty quickly There's still a lot of clothing I need to showcase (mirror shots just don't really cut it) so when we get around to it, there will be more images of me.
By rights I didn't take the photos so I shouldn't post too many, but I WAS the model, haha.
If you're interested in me putting more up, tell me so



Personally I'm not a photography genius myself, but I think I am getting a lot better, considering the dismal level I was at a little over a year ago. Like my sewing I guess, and a whole lot of things I take a stab at.

I have too much STUFF.
I have a 4 by 4.5 metre room or something, which is a nice bedroom size, but it's also my studio/workspace/storage space as well. And it's full of stuff. It's like a warren.
OK, I'm not as bad as the Collyer brothers ([link]) but I still find it very difficult to get rid of the junk that I have.

Are all artists hoarders or something? At my school they always encourage us to hoard things like bus tickets for artistic inspiration. They didn't have to tell me. I've always been a hoarder. I have a box full of bird feathers, two wine bottles, a collection of inform racing guides, several stacks of diaries, books and books and books, CDs, a whole bunch of papers, foils, fabrics, etc, not to mention all my art supplies. And there's a whole bunch of stuff that is just...JUNK. I mean..I do buy things, but I don't do expensive status stuff like a million fancy shoes. Most of my stuff is things like..interestingly shaped pieces of window putty.

I find it very hard to throw things away, even though I want to because all this junk just doesn't give me breathing space. My room is clean, yes, if a little dusty, but it's so cluttered!
And often that junk isn't even my fault! I have to put all my artworks somewhere, and then my cupboard is full of stuff my MUM left in there cause there's nowhere else to put it, like dolls, and kid's cooking playsets and dress up boxes and mini jeeps and doonas. Ugh. I can't get rid of THAT.
I suppose in a way, it runs in the family. My uncle collects junk too, he's a bit of a fix-it man. My Opa was a carpenter, my Oma a teacher so she'd collect all sorts of things to keep her class and her actual children (she had 6) occupied. Clothes are handed down in my family. I have another uncle who IS an expensive collector, collecting things like racing cars. What is the point?
I mean..I know it's bad to just throw things away when you grow tired of them, when they're perfectly good. I mean..we don't really have to throw out any food scraps because I have hens. I don't know. It's just difficult being a hoarder, when you just have so much stuff you can't really move anymore.

I....Hate...Purple. Every shade from the irritating almost-blue colour to that infuriatingly sick faded lilac colour that purple goes if you wash it too much. This isn't because

- Goths and whiny Magick people wear it
- It's ridiculously girly and stereotypy, one step off from pink. I almost hate it more than pink which is pretty extreme considering how much I hate pink.
- Purple doesn't go with any colour, really. It looks wrong with yellow, pink, green, blue, orange, red, you name it :S
- There is a rather lame Feeder song called Purple

No. The reason why I hate purple is because I was indoctrinated into the purple house at my school.
I used to like purple, foolish, foolish me.
I have never liked sport, and I have never liked "spirit" so sports carnivals were never my thing. We'd have "themes" (read, dress up as some humiliating thing - AND ALL IN PURPLE! Nothing is purple anyway, except skanky shitty things like prostitutes, charlie's angels, Flashdance etc)
For the first couple of carnivals I went, enthused and bright, fresh and purple. Slowly I experienced my spirit being crushed and my sense of self being driven into the ground by a day of seeing nothing but various conflicting shades of purple, being forced to yell and being bored out of my mind.

There was one particularly notable carnival last year where we were stuck in a FIELD, out in the rain and mud. It was freezing, and I got sick (obviously!)

Now my parents hate lying, so there was no way I could miss these bloody things. They're compulsory. And they weren't going to write me sick notes. I only managed to miss one.

Anyway, today we had athletics carnival. The theme was Biblical, which really grated on me because religion and bibles is one thing that I hate more than purple. So...I decided that I would go as an angel. Because it's just a person with wings, really, nothing more religious than that.

And I figured that it was my last carnival ever, so I may as well look impressive. I must be masochistic.

So I sewed these ruddy great wings, pinned them to myself and lugged them around all day. They're really quite lovely, though the makeshift fastening method wasn't too good.

But it was still a rather lame day. Just really boring. I sat there and read for much of it, wishing I was somewhere else. And I still can't comprehend the enormity of the fact that there will be no more of these stupid days.
I should be celebrating but I just feel too infuriated right now.

I'm not the only one, some other girl who is in my house now hates purple. I just associate it with these crappy experiences. I don't use it in any of my artworks if I can avoid it (in case you hadn't already noticed.) In fact I almost feel like I'll puke if I see it again, and I definitely won't wear it again for at least 10 years. So..now what to do with my purple clothes? Bleach the hell out of them? Redye them? I guess I can try that. And then reconstruct them. Get rid of those memories.

I kept the purple to a minimum on my wings. And I suppose now I can wash/bleach it out. I have to cook dinner tonight, which is the very least thing I feel like doing now.
Screw you, purple.

I am sewing myself a giant pair of angel wings. When I was little I decided I didn't really believe in God after my aunt didn't rise from the dead after she died. I was told that only Jesus rose from the dead and then thought to myself, "well, Christianity's pretty stupid then! Why did only Jesus rise from the dead?"
I was about 5.
Nothing I learned in Catholic school really changed that decision.

Some of my guilty pleasures include Take On Me by A-Ha and ELO's Telephone Line

I sing the latter song with my Dad. We also sing songs like Bridge Over Troubled Water or Rock The Boat by the Hughes corporation. Not in sing alongs around the piano or concerts or anything, we just do it in the kitchen cooking breakfast and stuff. He does have the irritating habit of leaving out the instrumental breaks and skipping to the verse/chorus whenever it suits him though.

I love singing but I've never really been "trained." I went to singing lessons for about 8 weeks, then my singing teacher mysteriously...disappeared. I don't know what happened to her because I never heard back from her.

Because of my singing teacher unceremoniously dumping a whole load of CDs on me I am the embarrased owner of an NSYNC CD and a tAtU CD. I still haven't gotten around to destroying them.

before I did this quiz I frittered away a good many hours looking at photos of decrepit old mental asylums. Some people might use this as proof that I am actually insane.

When I was little I had this bob haircut which I hated. I used to call it my "blockface" hairstyle and wished that I could have long hair like all the other little girls. When I was in year 3 my parents finally relented. I grew it out, in year 8 I realised that long hair was shit, and I cut it. Now I can wear it out.

I am extremely frightened of death. I think it's what makes me anxious and stressed a lot of the time, I feel like there's a giant clock hanging over my head counting down the hours until I die and if I waste any time I get frustrated and irritable with myself.

Bonus fact:
I've always been worried and anxious. When I was little my Dad, trying to cajole me into eating (I was a fussy eater), said if you didn't eat your stomach digested itself and then all of your organs. I was terrified that my stomach would digest me because of this. Thanks Dad!
I also had really bad insomnia in yr 3, I'd be crying at 1 am because I couldn't get to sleep.

So I've decided to do a series based on my dream.
Underneath the pictures I'll try and explain the dream.
Obviously I'm not going to do the ones that are particularly private, or disturbing, or boring

Christopher (my brother) and I were talking about dreams and we decided it'd be a great idea to write a book of people's dreams, because they can be really interesting stories.

Basically, I don't believe the idea that dreams have a serious meaning. Dreaming of snakes doesn't mean much. Nor does dreaming of a romantic tryst with someone mean that you would actually desire one with them.

Dreams are like a soup; they're basically your poor brain trying to comprehend the various things that came into your head during the day. The things didn't have to happen, you might have just heard about them! I had terrible dreams when I was reading lord of the flies - involving slaughter and gore.

Well...my friend and I decided that we'd do a video to enter in Feeder's Miss You competition (they're a british band, and Miss You was a song they released.)

I had some grand ideas, and we did plenty of filming. Some in Civic, some in stormwater drains in Lyneham and some by the side of the road. On Wednesday we needed to finish up and entered into a hilarious fiasco which involved us cycling for over an hour back and forth to get the camera charged.

Then on Friday (the very day it was due), I spent the night editing. I had an advantage because I am Australian - I live in the future (compared to London.) Christopher, my brother, set me up at his computer with final cut pro. Although very stressed, I assembled the footage and he helped me tweak it, edit and colourise it to perfection.
We got it done at 12:30 - 3:30 PM London time.

We set it up to upload to YouTube, stayed up til 1:00, but it hadn't uploaded yet. I went to bed and had a shitty sleep, waking up every few hours to check if it'd finished, but it hadn't.
At 7:10 I went into my brother's room, restarted the upload and crossed my fingers.
I had until 9:00 AM - 12 midnight London Time. Then, I guess it would no longer be Friday.

I'd all but given up the ghost, resigned myself to not being able to enter when at 8:57 I hear "it's finished!"
I raced in, submitted it to the required YouTube group (it hasn't appeared yet, hopefully it will soon.) It's OVER!

Now, I don't think I have the most incredible chance, but considering that the film is by 2 16 year old Australians running around a city with a domestic video camera, and edited at the last minute with an editing programme my brother hadn't used for over a year and I hadn't used at all....
I think we did well!

Even if I'm not eligible, I'm glad I tried. It was all in all, a great, if stressful experience.

- The magnifying glass is a Jolly Postman one from a kid's book. The glasses are $5 cheapies, I don't actually wear glasses

Just a quick thing. What the hell is with plz accounts?
Basically, from what I can gather, they're these accounts which are activated for the simple use of their avatars. I don't know all of them...but here are some.


Why? Why don't people shut them down, or make the avatars into emotes or stamps or SOMETHING? They're stupid! Um..why have these fake accounts just filling up an art site? I never even see the avatars used, and there really isn't much purpose for them...

Just how many plz accounts are there?

I'm also making some ginger biscuits but the recipe was weird so they've turned out kind of weird..
Oh well, you try anything once. Some things work, some don't.

Sick of school (nothing new there.) I've been working/fretting about working since Tuesday last week and my head is really starting to hurt. I'm very over assignments, and yr 12. I'm even considering not going to uni simply because I'm so sick of referencing and research.

I painted on a feather recently...maybe I'll do it again sometime.

I'm actually really bored - things are rather torpid around here. Looking forward to the holidays but I'm not sure what I'll do when they actually start.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in any one of my plush toys (excepting Grantley and Small me, but she's crap anyway) please note me. I am really running out of space for all of them. Just look at my CD tower!

Now, I'd just like to go over the last one. I'll repeat it again.
ART (and graphic design, and media) IS NOT A BLUDGE SUBJECT!

My friend took art and expected that it would be easy. Well, although I enjoy it, and I find it fairly doable and I'm (dare I say) good at it, and sometimes say it's easy, truth be told, it isn't really.

I know a subject with few essays, very little orals (apart from mainly ad-libbed seminars), and few exams sounds like a complete pushover, but there's still a lot of work. It's just of a different kind.

OK, for one thing, most of the people who say this do not do art. They may have never done art.
Artworks, if they are done well, take a very long time. Often in art you have a strict deadline and you often have to hurry to get your artworks done. This is complete with a lot of frustration if you screw up.
There's also the written stuff that you have to do. You have to write essays, and you have to write zillions of reports on artists, and draw heaps of thumbnails and do heaps of stuff in your visual diary which NO one is going to remind you about. You can't just paint a picture, you have to find an artist to (pretend to) be inspired by, write up research on them, plan it, write down the plans, and then do it.
And a lot of the stuff is interpretive. Have you ever tried talking about the form in a painting or sculpture? No? Well, IT'S HARD!

Basically, if anyone considers art a soft option, or something pissy, a bludge, a pushover, something any monkey could ace, just remember, these people probably never did art and would completely fail if they ever had to do a realist painting incorporating different tone and texture and perspective.

Bastards. I hate you all and I'm going to try my hardest to get a career in the arts, see if I don't. You do something boring for the rest of your life, I don't care. Just don't say that I'm a slacker for doing the classes I do.

OK, it was stress. And then it was depression. And now it's stress again. Really bad stress.

yes, I know this is another bitchfest. I'll keep you going with some promises of some nice cow features using the subscription thumbs that I have neglected so far.

OK. Ever since I've been little I've been a very anxious, worried stressed person. I remember being frightened and unable to sleep when I was little because I worried that my stomach would digest all my organs (thanks to a fact my Dad told me, that a stomach would eventually eat itself if a person was starved for that long.)
I remember being anxious about assignments in year 5. I was close to tears that time. And I had chronically bad insomnia through most of year 3.

High school didn't make this any easier. Year 7 was so stressful I can't remember most of it. I've blocked it out.
In year 11 I got so stressed that I was literally falling apart. I was unable to function, I couldn't concentrate. I'd forget what people were saying as soon as it came out of their mouths. I was so consumed with worry that I couldn't work on the assignments that were worrying me.
Then came depression, hopelessness and a sense of utter despair.

I still have quite a lot of despair. I'm worried about what I'm going to do when I'm finished school, what I'm going to do with my life, what the point is anyway. I realise it's completely irrational but I worry anyway.

Now, for the past week or so I have been consumed with worry and stress over one decision: that I wasn't going to go to a creepy cultish mass at my school. That's tomorrow, I still plan on not going. Now, there's not really much they can do to me, and that's IF I get caught but I'm still extremely frightened.
I was so stressed today, when my brother was driving that all my muscles locked. Even now my jaw and throat are still knotted and my shoulders ache.

I get stressed by going to parties, wearing non uniform to school, talking to people on the phone, having people listen to my music, playing my music when someone else is in the room, having someone look over my shoulder when I'm reading or at the computer...all sorts of stupid, tiny, incredibly irrational things.

Let's put this rationally. I have very little reason to be stressed. I can do all of my work, it isn't beyond my capabilities. I'm a motivated person, I'll get somewhere. I don't live in a war zone, have abusive parents, or suffer from schizophrenia.

SO WHY AM I SO STRESSED?

I can't go on like this, it's going to kill me. I'll die of a heart attack at age 22. I hope it will clear up when I finish school (every day is stressful and I feel isolated, because people don't understand me very much and thus don't talk to me, I'm frightened of some of the teachers), but I reckon it will last. I already suffer headaches, grinding teeth, sore muscles and illness as a result, when will it end?

And as I promised, the cow features! Why cows? I dunno, felt like it.

So anyway. I'll explain a little of what it's about briefly.
There was this art scholarship. One week in January. I entered in October. You had to respond to an artwork provided (big brush strokes, by the Aboriginal artist Richard Bell, if you're interested.) And...out of the whole of Australia, they picked 16 2007 yr 11 students, 2 from each state and I got in!

So. We basically did a lot of stuff to do with the National gallery - we saw behind the scenes, got an education on the way it works and a lot of art related jobs. We also did life drawing and printmaking, which was great fun. Basically the whole thing was a lot of fun, and I got to meet 15 amazing people.

There maaaayyyyy, at a pinch, be photos up here. They're not terribly good so they might just end up on my Facebook.

God..what my brother said when he saw my photos...what cheek! He'd reset the camera to some dumb setting, and I'm not much of a photographer so I didn't notice it. So for the whole scholarship, I took photos without flash! Not good at nighttime.
His response was that I should a) compose EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY SHOTS, b) set the settings accordingly for EVERY FREAKING SHOT! and c) it was my fault for being an idiot and not resetting the camera! He was the one that buggered up the settings!

Bastard...*shakes fist*

I have a bebo. It's very sad, and lame. But I found the whiteboard feature a lot of fun. Basically, it's one of those online drawingy widgets, and people use it for drawing shitty "HI" pictures with lovehearts and crappy flowers and all that shite.
I decided that I'd use my whiteboard and actually try to do some art.

Other sites have whiteboards too I think (facebook, I think has a whiteboard widget, which people use to draw large throbbing phalluses on each other's profiles)

So I was extremely bored one day. And I remmebered a comic that I'd seen a while ago that read "I like to make everyone's day a little more surreal."
And why not?

Here's one I did earlier:


I introduce Surreal Whiteboard Ambush. Draw a random, out of character, or completely strange picture on the whiteboard of someone you barely know, or a random. You can also do this for your friends, but it isn't quite as unexpected.
I just think it'd be a lot cooler if there were some interesting pictures floating around on those lame social networking sites. You with me? WOO!

So....I am going insane. Stupid calendar pictures. I did 4 calendars for Christmas last year and the thing is, no matter how much I do I always feel like people get annoyed if they miss out. I have a large extended family, so 4 calendars didn't cut it. People got affronted, so I went "hey, I'm going to paint pictures all year so I'll have LOTS of calendars to give!"
Well..turns out it didn't work out like that....what with yr 11, and being depressed and going overseas and all, I have to do some insane catchup now. I'm only making 2 this time...and considering there was a funeral recently I'm sure people will be a bit more lenient.

Aside from that, I thought I might get a job. I know pretty much every teenager in the world has a job, but I don't. Even though there is a pretty severe labour shortage here and they'll hire someone with 2 fingers and half a brain, for some reason I don't seem to be hirable.

This is partially due to my Radiohead Luck (Lucky = not lucky at all) and also due to the fact that I get discouraged.

I mean, what am I supposed to write on my resume? Anything I write there just looks dumb. What am I supposed to write?
"I'm a bored, depressed individual with low self esteem who sits on her arse and paints all day every day. Please hire me. Yours in desperation, Louisa"
I hate lying and so I can't bend the truth. I also am bad at looking cheerful and happy when inside I'm despairing.

Sure, I get discouraged and I give up way too easily. And I'm a bit picky (don't want to be a mcSlave.) I guess I'd better try and write a resume that doesn't suck, and go in and plead persistently with people to hire me.

This time this year I didn't really have a computer because my evil Acer broke. I also was busy making presents for people, but I don't really think I'll do it this year. Mean as it sounds, I really couldn't be stuffed busting my arse because I can't settle for something simple, it always has to be elaborate and takes forever. I just don't have the mental energy.

Another thing about Christmas is relatives asking me what I want. And often I don't really want anything.
Gah...I'm not really big on traditions and it's a celebration steeped in tradition...and irritating carols. I mean, I could get all "Cheered" and all that, but...meh.

Not much else to say. It's been interesting being a senior this year. It's definitely been a different year, some things so much better, and some things so much more terrible.
Just one more year, and I'll be one of those yr 12s scampering out the door as people cry. Maybe I'll be crying too, then again, I only ever cry over stupid things like when I listen to Switching Off.

I haven't done any drawings or paintings (well, excepting random scribbles or ones for school) since about a month ago. I've been sewing and stencilling instead, which probably peeves a lot of people that my artwork doesn't always fit into a certain category. I'm probably going to do some drawing/painting tomorrow, and update scans of artworks which I previously only photographed badly.
Hopefully I should have some nice photos of all of my recently made clothes soon.

Hair:
OOh I love hairstyles; short, medium and long, and I wish I could try some of them I wish I had long flowy hair but when I had long hair it looked all scraggly and shite. Just doesn't work on some people. Because I like so many different hairstyles you might see some drawings of people with different sorts of hairstyles soon...

which brings me to my next,
Colour:
I'm never going to be a black and white artist so much because I am in love with colour. All the different colours in the world - mmmm....
Hopefully I'm going to be able to play around with colours soon.

Hands:
Grrr I hate hands. Part of the reason I can't draw nice elegant hands is because I have small stumpy hands myself, which make really bad models. They're like baby hands but because I'm a baby their stupid proportions are no longer cute, just grotesque. My hands are all scarred and cracked and old like those of an old woman with baby hands.
So yes, can't draw hands at all

Metric:
Mmm I got Grow Up And Blow Away recently. Metric is a canadian band and when you listen to them you feel sexy - yes, even me, who is possibly one of the most unsexy people ever

Well. I'm supposed to be back at school today but I'm...well, really quite sick. I got some awful coldy flu thingy. The first couple of days I was running like a tap then I took some drug things and got all dried out and crackly and mummified. Now I'm somewhere between the two. Bummer.

It's going to be a tough but short term. I have an assignment due next Monday which I haven't started yet
But I try not to worry because when I worry I stress and panic and my eyes become like in an anime with the big streams of tears coming out of them.

I have a heck of a lot of stuff to post, of a more unconventional art variety. i was reasonably busy this holidays. And I'm pleased about that because if I do nothing I get all frustrated.

Now, in Rainbows. My brother owed me a little money he borrowed for a bus fare but didn't have the change so I suggested he buy the new Radiohead album for me.
It's pretty damn good. How will I describe it? It's...Radiohead but sounds a little like Boards of Canada and Nick Drake for some reason. Not really any long epic songs. It sounds slightly instrumental even though it isn't.
Other people seem to be catching onto it pretty fast, all 10 tracks were top 10 on last.fm this week.
It isn't depressing, instead sweet, poignant and slightly sad. I'd recommend it.

Basically, I am a late coming Feederite. Pretty much every other Feeder fan there was is a few years older than me because they've been around since 1994.
Still around but no way as popular.

So I decided to order it. LAST YEAR. IN OCTOBER.
The CD store that I ordered it at was just about to move so I assumed that the order got lost in the move.
It was then on ebay in January, with another CD, with their DVDS, for about $4.50 each. I could pay, easily! But my Dad refused...grrr...So this year, about 3 months ago, I ordered it again.
Turns out there are no copies circulating in AUSTRALIA.

I found this hard to believe. But I can't buy online and I don't mind waiting.
So I waited and I waited and it turned up yesterday.
I went into town in one of my frees.

Now, I'd ordered it twice! So there were two copies waiting for me - like buses, they'd turned up both at the same time!
Gah!
I bought one.
There's still one there.
If you're a Canberran Feederite, quick, go to Civic! Get the CD before you have to wait another year!

Still, I've never gone through so much to get a CD. It seems, that whenever it comes to Feeder, I'm always going to have to wait.

I am so incredibly tired. Just got back from my europe trip..
I was meant to get back a day earlier. But those bastards TAP!
In case you're wondering, that's air portugal. And they delayed our flight for 3 hours meaning that a knock on effect resulted with my Dad's and my flights.
I had to spend a whole day at Heathrow and a whole day at Changi, mouldering in the same clothes, and they lost my luggage so I had to wear my Mum's stuff - she'd been able to get on the flight but FUCKING TAP didn't page Singapore Airlines so they closed the flights!
We're very lucky to be back because all the flights were booked out until the end of the month. We got waitlist seats...

OK.
I won't summarise the whole trip, it'd take too long. I might submit reviews of the countries and other wanky arty farty stuff later on when I get the time. You can read them or you can decide not to, at your leasure.
My room feels odd - I forgot what it looked like - and my desk doesn't feel quite like my own. I haven't been on the internet since I left, unless you count some 1 pound a minute connection at Hell Heathrow.

I've been aiming to sell him for a while and I've had an offer from a few Canberrans.
The price is $50 and I know that DOES sound steep for a soft toy but I hand sewed him over about 3 afternoons...
Think about that carefully. I reckon that works out to about $7 an hour for my sewing.
And the felt probably cost about 7 so all in all you're getting him a bit cheap cause he's a prototype.

I'm prepared to negotiate but I can't give him away because these things cost time and money.

If you miss out I can make you another horse in the colour you choose but it might not be for a while cause I'm going to Europe in 2 weeks, for a duration of 4 weeks

And on the plus side I am now no longer stressed cause I dealt with those assignments!

a) I haven't been drawing

b) no scanner access.
So I might see if I can scan some things at school tomorrow.

And...er..I've been sewing. I'm not nearly as fantastic with a machine as quite a lot of people, but I'm learning. And I have to clear up my inherited fabric stash somehow.

Don't panic Horsey one (and others), this has nothing to do with Coldplay.
OK guys. I went today to go and interview a scientist for an Art project (it was either that or do it to the theme of "Act Justly" or some other wanky theme.)
You see, you have to represent the scientist in an artwork. And it just so happens that our unit is sculpture and installation (gah!)

So I have to make a SCULPTURE of or pertaining to my scientist, Michelle Dawson, and her work. She's a lovely woman who had an excitable and overtired toddler with her so I thank her for her patience.
Michelle studies brumbies and how to control and manage them.

What should I dooooooooooo? I was thinking along the lines of plushie art cause that's always good...but I want to include some little brumbies in it as well

Ideas are running a little lukewarm at the moment and I forgot to take notes in the interview....hopefully I can remember enough.

I'd also like to make a quagga plush for a competition online but I'm not sure I'll have time. I'd probably like to make a quagga plush anyway because quaggas are just so damn cool.

I've got a question for all of you guys. The feederites and several deviants have been raving on about how wonderful May is. Yes, it's May. Woop de doo.
Nothing happens in May...what's so great about it?
Noone has said WHY May is so brilliant....enlighten me? I guess if you're in the northern hemisphere then summer has nearly begun, but why do people in the southern hemisphere like it?
April is better. In April you get easter, and holidays. In May I just got back to school to more tedium and assignments. I go on holidays in June. Not May.
For me personally May does not come under my equation of greatness and I'd like to know why it's suddenly something to have a party about.

The materials are cheap, but the work that goes into them! About 2 - 6 days....all hand sewn.
They're very cute, cuddly and they're PROPORTIONATE (at least in theory - I don't do chibis cause they annoy me - alert hopeless realist!)! Hopefully I can upload photos of three plushes I made since Evil Me - they're much better, promise!

When I walk home there's this old man who always tells me to put my head up.
I went into the Supermarket once in yr 9 and some guy asked me "have you finished your exams?" I wasn't even DOING any exams....
Once some random bellowed out of his car window to keep off the grass! I wasn't even ON the grass!
A few weeks ago I was walking home and I'd taken off my shoes cause I had terrible blisters. This dude calls me a fucking stupid girl and wishes AIDS on me....what did I ever do to him?
Yesterday I was walking into town and a random woman from Queensland with earrings made out of soft drink cans asked me for directions. I ended up walking there with her, talking about school, my life, etc.
And today, I was walking home and this weird old man spins around and bellows "I HATE PEOPLE WHO PARK THEIR CARS OVER THE FOOTPATH!" like it was MY fault!
What the hell?

PS - the song contest. Well, I didn't have a great turnout...I'll probably judge in a couple of days but I really couldn't be bothered here. Several of us had a disappointing day. We got our marks back and I'm doing crummy

All very well but I'm a very stressed person. I try and dampen it down with a bit of Air, a bit of deep breathing and a chamomile but it's only temporary before the stress charge starts tearing at me again and I start freaking out, thus making me inable to do anything.
I have four assignments to do, plus more schoolwork, revision, etc. And I'm sure I can keep on top of it, but I probably need to cut something out.
Art.
Sorry, but I won't be updating as often, at least until I have more free time. Instead of thinking up ridiculous projects when I'm bored on Sunday afternoons, time and money intensive ones, I'll probably be trying to do my schoolwork. That way I'll be a bit less pressured.

I'm making a pimped snack like that, nearly finished! It's a giant Smarties milkybar....about 50cm long and 3kg. So no arts for a little while, expect some (terrible, knowing me) photos of the milkybar instead.

School is boring and pressing at the moment. I spent most of Maths ignoring the tidal wave of numbers cascading out of my teacher's mouth (sequences, I believe) and instead cleaned out the grooves of my watch.
Oh I'm going to get a lot of marks. FanTASTIC!

I have a diary for this which NO ONE WILL EVER READ...which means I can be as nasty, obsessive or wanky as I feel inclined.)
Basically, it's tiring and a waste of time being recommended bands you know you won't like, or recommending bands to people that they don't like and I think a lot of it is really lack of communication. Music is sacred. You don't pretend to like something to be cool. If you think it's shit, listen to something else!
So what you should do is answer the following questions in your journal so we don't have these problems.
1. What bands do you like?
2. What constitutes a good song?

Yeah. I'll answer those.
Bands:
Air, Athlete, Blur, Coldplay, Doves, Elbow, Eels, Everything But The Girl, Feeder, Franz Ferdinand, Frou Frou, Gorillaz, Goldfrapp, The Killers, I am Kloot, Massive Attack, Metric, Mew, Radiohead, Royksopp, Sia, Scissor Sisters, South, Stereophonics, Sigur Ros, The Postal Service, and Zero 7 (and some other stuff I've forgotten about or haven't heard for years or don't have or whatever...)

What constitutes a good song?:
-instrumentals are fine but prefer vocals
-please no whiny bullshit
-no heavy distortion, no screaming or repeditive evil drumbeats or samples as in BAD dance music
-vocals...singer MUST have a good voice (this is why I don't like Placebo as he sings a bit like he's been stepped on, I think) and be able to sing (singing does not mean vibrato )
-Nothing that gives me a headache or makes me throw up
-no 12 minute guitar solos
-NO OPERA!
-pretty much any instrument if played well (not that I can tell)
-song can just be a pretty tune but often has to have something a little more

Yeah, pretty much it. And all those who read this journal and attempt to recommend the following:

or most Aussie groups

First. AARGH!! AARGH I HATE THOSE BASTARDS SO MUCH HORRIBLE THEY HAVE RUINED MY LIFE!
I get back from the Seven Days In The Sun, and find out that Elbow are playing at a festival at the Hawkesbury. So I get all excited. The next day, reading the small print...
IT TURNS OUT THAT YOU CAN'T GO IF YOU'RE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 5-18!
BASTARDS HAVE RUINED MY LIFE!

And Elbow playing other dates in Aus is pretty unlikely as they do really short tours because two of the members have little kids. I'm ANGRY. ARGH.

I am NOW also completely Doved. I have every Doves album there is and the DVD too....woohoo. Now I need to get completely Elbowed and completely Fed.

And The Greatest Newsagent of All Time? SUPANEWS! (the greatest newsagent of all time thing is a play on Superman by the 'phonics because that's what the name makes me think of.)
Basically I applied for a job there and had an interview this morning. I went OK - I hope....hope I get the job.

And the people on DIS basically hate all music except Doves because nobody hates Doves. But I saw these ones on Feeder, and apart from a lot of people saying they were shit, there were quite a few people saying "oh, when I was thirteen I used to like them but now I think they're boring shit."
Which made me think. WIll I regret all this? I DO doubt it as I still like the bands I liked when I was 3! (Shona lang, rock on) I just find other bands that I like MORE.

WARNING WARNING HEAVY DUTY SWEARING FOLLOWS AS ONLY I CAN DO!

But yeah. Onto the holiday. I had Seven Days In The Sun (yeah) with my Mum and Dad at Merimbula. My brother couldn't come as he was minding my hens and working. This is pretty much what happened:

In other words, I had a holiday (the capitals thing is a bit of a stupid habit, because it's also the name of a Feeder song. Which has a really cheesy clip. God! There was a SOLAR GUITAR POOL (read guitar shaped) over the road from where we were staying! It had Elvis's face in it! ARGH! SO BAD!)

Actually, Seven Days In The Sun is a bit of a misnomer as it wasn't that warm - 28 being the top temperature, and I didn't really swim much.
OK. The holiday is as follows (extremely boiled down version from my diary):

Saturday 6th - drove down. Great little house we were renting. Lots of wildlife but I realise not everyone else is a bird nerd so I won't bore you with details. The drive was pretty cool and scenic. I got a bed with stripy sheets
There was a supersonic hairdryer in the house! It was SCARY! (there are heaps of really weird photos of me and otherwise that we took but I haven't got them so I can't show you yet.)

Sunday 7th - Got THE STOMACH ACHE OF DOOM AGAIN (girls, read into this more. It ALWAYS happens when I go on holiday. Bugger it)
We went on a long "bracing" walk. It was a bit too long in my opinion. But it was all coastal and cool.
Then, we went on a drive. The fish was all overpriced because for some reason you can't get local fish at the coast because the government are bastards. Read some crime novels.
A thing I noticed about crime novels (I read a lot while I was there.)
Everyone in a crime novel can describe people perfectly. It's like this:
"what does the suspect look like?"
"Well, she had long chestnut hair. A heart shaped face and blue eyes. She wore glasses, and had an eye drawn inside her glasses case. She had nervous habits and was probably someone who got stressed easily. Obviously fairly thorough, a bit sheltered. She's good natured, likes flamboyant clothing. She was wearing silver stilletos and had pink nailpolish on her toenails, red on her fingernails. Her skirt was about knee length, and blue cotton, and her top was loose and flowing. She had a wide smile."
(bear in mind that this is just from a glance or two)
For once, in a crime novel I want something like this:
"What does the suspect look like?"
"Ahh...brown hair, a bit shorter than me, smiling, wearing a skirt and top. She had freckles."
"Anything else, clothing for instance? Personality? Voice?"
"How should I know? I'm not a bloody criminal mastermind!"
So yeah. It'd be a nice change!

Monday 8th - Decided that I hated the earl of sandwich for inventing sandwiches because I don't like them. Also noticed that not only was I not speaking, my parents were speaking really wierdly (my brother was at home working and looking after my animals.)
They'd say things like "I love the air, it's so bracing," or "beautiful gum blossom!" or "We've got luncheon supplies at home." I'm serious! They sounded like fucking seaside postcards! It was pretty scary actually!
I drew some stuff but it was a bit lame. We saw some cool clifftops and stuff too. I saw some lizards and such. There were so many surfie people. You'd feel so isolated if you were their age and you lived there but weren't into surfing or skateboarding!

Tuesday 9th - Went back behind the house where there was a tree with woody apples and a million pobbling birds and animals and lakes and stuff. I got some boardshorts. Then, I went on a trail ride. I got a pretty good horse - a palomino called Zero. If you can't remember what a palomino is, it's a golden horse with a really light mane. And now onto the more serious and moany bits. I HATE SHOES SO MUCH. Not only are most shoes ugly, when I look at a shoe I think "uncomfortable." I hate shoe shopping. I do NOT wear high heels. Even flats and runners make my feet hurt!
I have this problem with my feet. They're all flaking and awful, and they HURT. My toes click and creak. My knees creak. I am NOT in good shape. It's painful to wear shoes.
I have made a vow to wear shoes as LITTLE as possible. I have pretty tough feet. But the shoes don't help at all.
I might have to move somewhere warmer!
