Well, just got back from the HBP movie (like an hour ago but still). I really did like it - I didn't like the random burning of the Burrow (I mean seriously wtf), the very anticlimatic ending, and how it seemed to be overly long and not long enough at the same time (but the book's like that too so :/). However, the Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny romances did actually get developed, there were lots of intended and unintended humor moments that the entire theater cracked up for, and I gigglesnorted at the fact that Luna was the Extra Female Lead (too cheap to pay Tonks? Let's have Luna find Harry on the train! etc.). It was a brilliantly edited and effect-ed movie for the most part, although I was always inwardly laughing at the fact that the screenwriter is a Harmonian and always finding the moments he inserts.

ALL IN ALL, I give it a 7. Good, almost great, but not awesome. An average-good movie.

WHAT GOT ME MORE EXCITED was the Percy Jackson & The Olympians trailer before it. I love that book series - it's basically Harry Potter, but in first person, American, and uses Greek mythology instead of magic, all things I ADORE in a book.

The teaser is THE. FREAKING. SHIT. It's as cool as the Avatar trailer!

2010 is going to be my Geek Year for movies.

IN OTHER NEWS. Thursday I get four wisdom teeth removed. I've never had surgery before, but I have a high tolerance for pain, so I'm expecting a quick few days after the surgery, filled with recaps of Avatar, rereadings of Percy Jackson and other select books, and, of course, lots of drawing. I'm gonna keep up with CAPSTAANG WEEK, don't worry. Just thought you oughta know.

............... It's really, really sad that a 90 second commercial got me more excited than a 150 minute movie.

hey, y'all! I'm FINALLY home from Scotland. It was a trip that took too long and was unnecessarily drawn out by bad weather and a bunch of airline screw-ups, but anyway, I'm back! If you didn't notice, I put up the first character pages of my workforce AU. This will probably go not much farther than doodles and random ideas, but you never know, I may sketch out some comic pages.

Here is the list of Things To Do Now That I'm Home:
- finish the workforce AU sketchdump
- type up a songfic/oneshot thing about reincarnation I wrote in Scotland that I just realized no one has read any of it yet
- clean up the little companion pieces to the oneshot I drew to pass time
- do summer reading (ugh.)
- write some of diamonds and marble
- write some of false rose
- lather, rinse, repeat with the last three things.

Aaaaand that looks to be about it for now! omg no wai.

Well hai there! Scotland is going good. Lots of sheep and jet lag so far

It's 6 hours ahead of Alabama, but after a lot of sleep after a sleepless flight I think we've all recovered

The REAL point of this journal entry is to throw out a plot bunny that jumped me while I was watching one of those cheesy Introduction To Becoming A Sardine videos before my Newark-Scotland flight. You ready?

AVATAR WORKFORCE AU.

That's right! I'm about to go where No Avatard Has Gone Before and make them past high school age where it isn't a Next Generation (it's about 10 years older)! It's an idea that will probably go nowhere, but it won't leave my head and you know how these things are - they won't go away until a) you listen to the song or b) you write it down. The basic principle is putting the Avatar characters into a blue collar job that would define what they were, but it's only been a few days and it's already exploded since then. What I have so far includes (but is not limited to):

SETTING: somewhere in the SoCal region seems best; this is up for debate and change

AANG: luggage handler/pilot wannabe who teaches at his Uncle G's dojo that he lives above on the weekends; had a brief period in the Air Force but left because honestly the Army isn't for Aang; met Zuko in the AF Academy and is now the James to his proverbial Sirius; knows Katara/Sokka through childhood; went out with Katara in high school, broke up when she went to college; white working class (*is shot*); meets Toph when he catches her when she falls off scaffolding on the site where he's working as a temp. laborer (addition to the airport he works at) and gets hurt

TOPH: construction worker for her father's company; is just barely legally blind, also colorblind, but works to fight handicap and has very strong prescription glasses/goggles for work (used to have contacts, but couldn't afford them after she left home); privately tutored and sheltered in Beverly Hills home; Dad is Asian mogul, Mom divorced golddigger; codename Rebecca Laughlin, but everyone calls her Laugh (pronounced 'Loph' xD); tried to get mixed up in gang stuff as original rebellion, but ultimately dismissed from gang b/c of blindness; learns Oriental side of fighting from Aang; friends with Aang, Teo - wheelchair-bound architect for comp. - the Freedom Fighters, who are security guards for hire/TSA agents in rush hour, more specifically Duke, the TNT specialist for the construction site; maneater

TY LEE: professional cheerleader; likes to shop/flirt w/ Sokka; knows Aang when she signed up for self-defense lessons after almost being gang-raped one day (saved by Suki the cop)

KATARA: either an aquarist or an intern at a hospital; wants to be a marine biologist or doctor respectively; took up tai chi in gap year when she did volunteer work in Tibet; mother was Native, father Mexican; Mom died from gang violence at a young age, lives with brother on the south side of the city

SOKKA: works with Teo on the more physical side of the job/owns a tourist boat with his father; used to be fishers before he and his girlfriend Yue got caught in a storm and she died

ZUKO: disowned son of a corrupt politician; firefighter; hates politics; has a motorcycle; lived w/ Aang after disowning who helped him get his act together

AZULA: prodigal daughter; destined to take father's place; at grad school at the East Coast; lost all connections in Cali when she left/assisted in disowning Zuko

MAI: secretary for hire; currently at a ritzy law firm; TL's unofficial agent; from a rich family who believes in honest work; steady with Jet now; lives with Ty Lee in downtown apartment

The day has finally arrived! Tomorrow at 12 PM central time I will be taking off on a God forsakenly-long flight to Scotland, where me and my family will roam around for 12 days and see many sights and ride the HP train. It promises to be an awesome trip.

Because I'll be gone for the lesser part of a month, my friend and I made a doll of her for me to take with me and take pictures with at various locations around the country. After I return, I will document The Amazing Adventures of Lesley Scotty in the landscapes I hope to draw there.

In other words.... it's going to be an AWESOME TRIP. Unfortunately, we are only bringing my sis's computer, so internet time will be few and far between, and no art will be uploaded at all (although I may steal it long enough to finish a chapter of D&M). I will proceed to vanish from the face of the earth until July sometime.

For all of my watchers... does anybody live in the Scotland area? It may be futile, but it's always fun to try and meet up with people from the internet IRL

... I am leaving on a quick summer vaca to nowhere special. D:

Tomorrow morning Mom, Sis, and I are driving for 7 1/2 hours to watch my drunken cousin graduate from high school, then driving 7 1/2 hours back on Friday.

Thrilling.

The good news is that he lives on an island in South Carolina, a setting which may sound familiar to my faithful watchers - because it is! Hilton Head is part of the inspiration for False Rose. You know what that means!

Well, my junior year of high school is drawing to a close, so I figured it'd be a good time to reflect on what I've done this year. (That, and I'm bored out of my mind in study today.) So, what have been the artistic and miscellaneous highlights of my first sojourn as an upperclassman?

I became Adri's fangirl, beta, and unofficial fanartist

I became a Taanger and an Avatar fanfic reader

I drew my cards

I wrote 50,000+ words of a novel that isn't bad

I went to space camp

I kept high B's in my AP classes

I decided on a good future profession and possible college choice

I aced my standardized tests

I started making graphics for real

I didn't back out of track like I wanted to

I made my resolution to be an honor grad

I made some awesome friends

Sounds like a successful year to me.

Yes, their quality kind of sucks. It's my prototype model.

On the plus side, I found that my paper cutter works well

There was a few alignment issues that the awesome guy at Kinko's ironed out (thank you, black-haired McGee look alike

), and I didn't bring extra paper, but now I know what to do so it should be easier.

Running price right now for these?

hmm... all of the copies + the screw ups cost me about $10... plus $2.60... add on profit and subtract the screw ups...

I'm seeing about $15 for each deck.

This adds in the fact that I spent way too much time on the face cards and the Aces than I should have.

Hit me up or vote in the to-be-created poll if you think you're somewhat interested and serious about buying. It'd have to be cash in the mail - sorry, but although I technically have a credit card, it's my parents', and I don't want to open a PayPal account with that

Nooooooooooooot really

For those of you new to me/have never cared enough to keep track of my personal life (I don't blame you), I've been taking four AP (Advanced Placement, for you non-Americans) courses this year - Physics, European History, Psychology, and English. It's May, so it's test time! They are strenuous, mind-numbingly-long tests that will leave me braindead at the end of each day. Stuff probably won't be uploaded until next week. Today is AP Euro (I actually have about an hour until it starts) and I'm so NOT prepared but seriously, I have never been so unconcerned with the outcome of my life as I am this week. It's probably bad, but I think it's good for my body that I'm so unstressed

Hey! Long time no chat! My lifeÂs been both bland and busy latelyÂ nothing too horribly exciting has happened, but my four AP exams are looming closer and closer and AP cram has set in at school. This isnÂt the reason for this update, however!

I have two contests to promote today. First is my good friend ~foamazoidÂs very general challenge, involving colors, which is here [link] ThatÂs it. You know what's really really weird?

Despite all of the Avatar/Zutara/Taang/after-the-war fics I read, I am passionately against me writing Avatar fanfic. It's just something that'd be weird for me. BUT I've been struck today with the really strong desire to write my own! It's so bad that I've even opened up a Word document and titled it 'My Avatar Fanfic' xD

SO. What do you guys think of me writing my own? Would you read it? It'd probably be my own rendition of the events after the war... maybe in a few years... maybe not...

MERCURY STORY: The boys and the room are both fine, everyone just overreacted. They didn't even get into any trouble.

LIFE: Boring. Track was okay. I got a great recipe for chocolate cake in a cup.

(INGREDIENTS:

4 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
optl 3 tablespoons choc chips
splash of vanilla
pinch of baking soda

(NB: 2 tablespoons = 1/8 of a cup)

First, find the largest coffee mug you own - I mean gigantic-humongous large. Combine the first three ingredients in the cup and mix. Add egg and mix. Add milk & oil and mix. Add chocolate chips (if available), vanilla and baking soda. (The baking soda is also optional, but it helps to make it less rubbery since it's from the microwave instead of the oven.)

Put the cup on a saucer and pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes (3 if you don't use baking soda). It'll probably run over - that's why you have the saucer.

Take out of microwave, cool, and enjoy. It is possible and easy to dump it out of the cup onto a plate if you want. It generously feeds one person or just barely serves two. (Taken from Sami, who took it from... somebody else)

Honestly, Creative Writing can be the best class or the worst class, depending on your POV.

So today, we were goofing off since it's Friday and Creative Writing (CW) is the last period of the day. One of the seniors - a really cool guy whose name for this purpose is Ross, but not really - had swiped an old mercury thermometer accidentally-on-purpose from my really laid-back/lazy physics teacher (who also happens to be 23 and therefore naive) somehow. He and one of those indescribable people - you know the kind - whose name henceforth shall be Sean where playing catch.

With the mercury thermometer.

Of course, many people in the class were telling them that that's probably a bad idea, but my English/CW teacher was on the other side of the room, and they do tend to occupy themselves with throwing around less dangerous items a lot, so it wasn't really a problem until the mercury FUCKING BREAKS ON ROSS'S HANDS and he sprints out of the room to the bathroom where he strips off his shirt and scrubs his hands to no end. Meanwhile, the teacher has figured out/learned what's going on and is frantically trying to slide the mercury droplets off the desk it landed on with some scrap cardstock while the rest of us are either 'D8' or '8O' or gazing at the mercury in awe. Finally, she calls for the principal/janitor, and we are cleared out of the room as we begin to realize 'hey... we're in some pretty deep shit here' as my other friend reads off how to treat mercury spills from the internet and it says that even a small amount can contaminate a room. A buttload of principals and janitors show up, radio waves are flying, and Ross and Sean are just like 'oh. shit.'

All of this is happening during a giant thunderstorm, btw.

SERIOUSLY. HOW MUCH OF AN IDIOT ARE YOU TO THROW AROUND A MERCURY THERMOMETER??? I was also across the room and didn't really know what was going on - I heard Ross say something like 'I bet I can break this if I step on it' and a girl go 'do NOT do that if you like your life'. I thought he had like a glass keychain or something of hers, not poisonous chemicals. I heard him run out of the room and looked up to see the others involved say 'dude, he just got covered in mercury!' From what I know now, the three desks caught in the crossfire are to be quarantined until further notice and her carpet will have to be replaced.

Top it all off with the janitor radioing 'we've got a situation here' - which none of us had ever heard outside of the media - and you've got a very screwed-up ending to your Friday.

Anyway. I just needed to tell somebody so I wouldn't be tempted to gossip about it with people who actually care. I love those guys, but they must have been brain-dead for a few minutes there when they decided to play with quicksilver.

So I'm in the not-bad-but-average stage of grades again and parents took away computer. I'm pretending to do homework on it right now. These periods always SUCK.

Anyway, I have a question for you artistic peoples out there! Every year, my math team rips off a famous logo (usually some sort of outdoor gear) for our T-shirt. I'm wearing one now (archteryx), and previous years have included The North Face, The Red Bar (a restaurant in Destin, FL) Mountain Hard Ware, and others that I cannot think of.

But the well is running dry in my math class! Do any of y'all have a favorite logo that would easy to blend in 'math team' or 'Homewood' or both that'd be great. (I've already started a page of ideas - right now it has the ESPN logo and the Kool-Aid logo.)

For serious, it is.

Not much is happening right now. Track is a struggle, like always. School sucks. Teachers and students are tired of each other. It's really getting to be a downright drag.

I'm writing a research paper on foster care for English. Does anyone have stories to share with me about foster care?

My struggle to work on my novel is still going strong. I finally finished editing/posting it to FC, but I have yet to write an extra word of plot since November 30th. I'll let you guys now when the new chapters start going up - I'm not going to post them here, since they're longer there and I like that more, but I know quite a few of you read it.

Not much interesting stuff in social areas. (What social life?) Going to get married in psychology to Rebecca - that should be fun. Starting to make graphics and failing completely - drawing PS and graphic design PS are two very different areas of expertise. Yes. The rumor is true. I have been at SPACE CAMP all weekend!

Why, you ask? Well, as some of you may or may not know, there is a NASA base 2 hours north of where I live. There is also a Rotary function called RYLA, or Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. North Alabama RYLA needs a cool place to be held.

Put two and two together.

Anyway, my college counselor gave me the form a long time ago and I got accepted to this thing with about 80-95 other kids 15-18 years old. Overall it was a lot of good speakers and space camp nonsense, although there were wayyyyyyy too many speakers. I'll put highlights here in random numerical order.

1) The place we stayed in was called a habitat, which had four floors of rooms that were each designed much like a camp cabin, with bunk beds and plastic mattresses, but spaceified. I had six girls in the room with me, and every single one of them had a really strong Southern accent. Other than that we got along fine.

2) We had to put on a 10-minute skit about the four-way test, which is some decision-making tool that I never want to hear about ever again, and we had to use 5 random props in it. We had a great group of 9 and we made something up about a court case with grandma accusing the Easter Bunny of stealing her cookies. Our 5 random props were a giant yellow plastic Easter egg, a keyboard from a computer, an apron, an empty metal cookie tin, and a small plastic swim ring. I was the court reporter who ended up being the actual thief, and it turns out I was an insane person who blames everything on the Easter bunny. I had a beautiful psychotic laugh, and it scared the audience. If you want to hear it, I can record it and load it online.

3) I forgot: my toothbrush, my cell phone charger, my conditioner, pads, my face wash, and a sweatshirt.

4) SOOOOOO MANYYYY SPEAKERSSSS

5) The sizzle. I will not explain this. Do not ask. If you do, I will ignore your comment and mark it as spam.

6) We had KFC last night

7) The McWane IMAX is cooler than the space camp IMAX.

8) Also, the number times I mentioned the McWane Center was unfathomable.

9) We did a mock mission. I was Commander 8DDDD

10) There was a foreign exchange student from Norway there named Nikolai. He was cool.

11) We had a dance. It was strange, but awesome.

Well, the inevitable has happened. My grades are average Â not bad, just average Â and my parents flipped their tops off and took away my computer while I was at a wizard rock concert last night. Again. After all of the times that this has happened, though, theyÂve learned that they need to ban me from the other computers, too, so they put passwords on my mom and sisterÂs Mac. IÂm in my study period at school in the library right now, pretending to type up a paper that I turned in last week Â not that they need to know that

I probably wonÂt get to most comments, having to flip back and forth between Word, reputable sources, and dA. ASN is blocked on this Internet, so I canÂt see the most likely lovely comments I got on Nawat. (If one of my ASN friends could comment with them on this journal, thatÂd be great.)

Of course, usually I manage to either gain their trust back or steal my computer back within a few days, but you never know Â maybe they learned their lesson and took it out of the house at last xD

I hope IÂm not separated from my dear sweet ÂNet friends for too long! You guys are the only ones who really get me J IÂll update here when IÂm back for realz. There will be NO ART uploaded during this time, unless I can manage to go to the scanner or the unblocked Internet at the library sometime Â even then, I wouldnÂt have my lovely CS3.
