Over the summer I met this guy who worked at Hot Topic, we got to chattin as I usually do with the more amiable patrons/employees of HT. He is a drummer for a local KC band, Snake Eater. Being just after Warped Tour ran through KC we were talking about it and he mentioned SE played on the Ernie Ball stage. He plugs his myspace, to which I was grateful, and I walk out of HT a little disappointed because they didn't have the right size Enter Shikari shirt I wanted.

I find them on myspace, and I end up catching one of their shows near the end of the summer and do some free live shots for them (the first time I got to use my 50mm f/1.4).

Anywho check out Snake Eater. The individuals they have posted on their page are the live ones I did for them.
I'm currently booking with a STL band and hopefully will be able to work something out for them.

Q: should i upload more quantity to my dA or should i keep it choosy and only upload my edited favorites.

2. my f/1.8 is permanently out of commission. i know, such a young lens, such a tragedy.

the good news, i've recently purchased a f/1.4 lens. yes. now you can get excited.

I figured since I have yet to do a celebratory journal for pageviews (like they matter right! ): ) I wanted to make something for submitting 100 deviations.
I guess its a milestone of sorts, I have been on deviantART for a little under a year, and I've had my camera for something like 7 months.

So I spend more time mulling over my old pictures than making new ones. To be honest I really don't like some of the things I put out even just a few months ago. So my style has constantly been evolving, not just how I see the world, but how I think it should be.

For years I had a few cameras at my disposal to take pictures here and there, sporting events, family get togethers, vacations. Pictures for the sake of pictures, y'know?

But even as I took a lot of shots last summer with borrowed cameras, and even got my own decent camera last fall I'm just now feeling that I take this seriously.

Its become something of my identity, people associate photography when they think of me. I don't really consider myself that artistic. I've always had a passion for math and all things logic, which if that's not the most counter-intuitive juxtaposition ...

So I guess its a passion of mine, and I've grappled with the reasons why it has become so. I really started taking pictures because I love the world, and its beauty, and it really does continue to amaze me all the time. Its days where I really have to stop and say wow, you've outdone yourself, Earth.

Conveniently I'm at a point in my life where I make all the decisions immediately relevant to the path in life I am to take, forever. So as much as I'd love to take pictures for a living for the rest of my life, that will have to regress to a lofty fall-back plan for when I run away from my life and live somewhere exotic to take pictures to support me and my circus-wife. (what? we're a traveling family. think about it)

I've realized I take way too many pictures, and unfortunately for you, you probably only see 1/10 of them. So I'm going to pledge to spend free time I have to processing the better ones and uploading them. Before that though, I think I will spend a few weeks touching up older shots I uploaded before I began processing them heavily.


Also, I figure its time I talk about my titles, which I pledged to stop at number 100. These of course (with the exception of The Lush, and the batch Ultimate shots, and other concert shots) have all been lyrics from Bloc Party songs.
AND SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT NOTICING.
Every one of them. Sure, a handful of you recognized one or two of your favorite lines, BUT 100? shaaame. SHAAAMEE.

So I'm retiring my Bloc Party Lines. I didn't use them because I'm not creative, I just felt like they already spoke for how I feel and its the perfect homage.

So with that I'm going to change up my titles, re-submit a few of my oldies, scrap some of the jokes, and keep on keepin on.
And eventually try to act like a legit photographer (as I develop my style and talent and such). All I'm asking for is a little cred right?


I can't do this without mentioning some guys who have had a huge impact on me and have been with me from the beginning.

They put out a notice that they were accepting submissions earlier this semester and my friend told me I should submit some of my photography. I decided to, albeit a little begrudgingly.

I forgot about it for some time, then I got an e-mail a few weeks ago

Dear contributor,

Thank you for sending your work to Windfall. We've had waves of really strong submissions throughout the year, and it made for lively editorial debates. We are sorry to report that we are unable to accept your work at this time. While the staff is proud of what we believe to be an exceptional issue of Windfall, we regret having to leave some very fine work behind. ... blah blah blah sincerely blah blah blah

I was a little bothered, but not terribly upset. I really had zero expectations going into it, so i figure a biology major can only have so much art in his blood.


Anyways, flash-forward several weeks, and Windfall copies finally drop. I happen to be walking by the Windfall table in the Student Union and I decide to partake in a free copy. I walk up to the table and grab a copy in mid stride (think playbill), and low-and-behold the image on the front is devastatingly familiar. On closer inspection the cover of the book is one of my submissions.

!!! WHAT

I was confused, I thought they told me they decided not to use mine. Despite the initial shock of them using my work, I was quickly appeased as I flipped to the inside cover to see Front Cover: Polarism Bo Burasco.

I was in bliss all day long, they decided to one of my submissions(I could have been a hero) as the cover to their journal of poetry, prose, and art.
A modest publication, but it was huge for me

10,000 clicks. I passed it a few weeks ago. Haven't really taken much since then, i'm about to 12k.

But I think that's a milestone worth noting, my first point and shoot i only got about 5k with the three years i used it most often. This camera I've barely had for 6 months.

The implications I guess, I have a lot left to process and upload. In the past month or so i've really evaluated how i take pictures. How critical I am in saving the ones I like and trashing the ones I don't. Therefore I'm not so sure I'm conservative with how many shots I take, but rather the ones I save. I imagine I'll soon not be so trigger happy.
