More traditional Â I like the feel of paper~<3

(My head? xD lol) Pencil out a light draft of where everythingÂs positioned (relatively), and then start with character(s), then the background.

âWhat is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
I skimp out on my backgrounds (they need more love). ThereÂs probably a lot more that IÂm not aware ofÂovo

âAny tips for coloring/shading?
I really would like to offer you tips, but I think you guys probably know a lot more about coloring than I do (or can ask much better sources). xD; A tip on shading would be to always keep in mind a source of light. (*needs to follow own advice*)

âHow long does it take to finish a piece of art?
Ooh. Tough question. UhmmmÂTraditionally, one afternoon for an inked piece; Digitally, an afternoon plus an evening? xD (And if IÂm rushing, 0-3 hours, haha.)

âWhat music do you listen to while you draw?
Usually whatever music fits the mood of the piece. Generally, for action-y things, I listen to rock, rap, alternative, and for calm-y things, I listen to soundtracks, pop, instrumentals.

âHow long does it take you to come up with an idea?
There are some that come to me in the middle of the night, or during the middle of class, or during a study session (because some problem triggered a weird mental image), which generally annoys me before I get excited. xD And then there are times that I donÂt like the idea I came up with and I spend a super long time trying to think of anotherÂxD;

âYour favorite drawing utensils?
Ticonderoga No.2 soft lead pencil, 0.7 lead mechanical pencil, my 3 Sakura Micron pens and Faber-Castell brush pen (which is running out of ink), and my Genius tablet

âYour favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
Black or white. >u< Oh, in my colored works? A weird combination of blue, yellow, or green? xD *doesnÂt color a lot*

âYour favorite style(s)?
Kazuya Minekura (Saiyuki) style!

In Chinese, it looks like the character for ÂmountainÂ (pronounced ÂshanÂ )Âwith two extra ÂhooksÂ at the left and right ends. ItÂs also an ÂLÂ and a ÂUÂ smooched together (to look like the Chinese character for ÂmountainÂ ).

I will be college-bound these next few weeks. God knows how much free time I will be able to gather at MIT, but at the off-chance that I will be able to make room to breathe (crosses fingers, and still be able to maintain my sanity), I will definitely be thinking of you, my dear friends at DA.

That said, I will be even more sparse in my deviant submissions, more so than ever before (part of the reason being I will be without scanner until after Winter Break). Which doesnÂt say much, because I wasnÂt very active in the beginning. =w=; But this is not the point IÂm trying to make here. The point: You will be seeing much much less of me these next few weeks. We stopped by Charleston on the way to the beach house, and went to Fort Sumter, the City Market (which used to be the Slave Market), and ate at Hymans Seafood (BEST seafood restaurant I've been to yet). It was dark and stormy~~ XD No, not really. But it was windy and cold.

AND NOW I'M AT THE BEACH! OMGOMGOMG! xD I'll post pictures soon~ We were freaking out and dancing at the sand and rocks and acting like little kids. I saw sea foam (piled like fluffy bath bubbles on the rocks) for the first time! And it turned to sand when I touched it. I also saw a good sized dead jellyfish (about 5-6 inches in diameter, short tentacles) tooÂ

Personally, I really have no sides to this topic. What drew me to DeviantArt in the first place was not the popularity issue (that was an added incentive) or the amount of fair exposure I got. It didnÂt matter to me if I had single or double or triple+ pageview digits (though the numberÂs quite a fine ego-stroker). I came because I saw how many truly wonderful and capable artists out there, willing to broadcast their portfolios out to the big bad world. I wanted to watch their work, be there when they uploaded new deviations, be able to comment and fav the things that interested me.

I understand that not all users view DA as a site for displaying finished works of art, but rather as an outlet of creativity and ramblings at any given moment. I respect that, and itÂs often quite fun to do so now and then. And sometimes, those bursts of creativity are really cool! (and to some, what they see as mere sketches are masterpieces to mere mortals like us.)

ÂFairnessÂ isnÂt really what IÂm looking for on DA, sadly or not. I want to be able to see the best and the potential best, even though IÂm not. I browse to find the new artists, run through watched fav links and notice features. To those who are actively searching for the potential in the webpages, things like pageviews and popularity and number of favs matter little. IÂm just happy enough that my art is being noticed where in real life I would have little chance of getting them displayed. To have a gallery that I can turn to and proudly say, ÂHey man, see that? ThatÂs alllll mine,Â =] is really something great. And to have a band of friends who have even better galleries? Niii~ce!

All I know is that life doesnÂt have a metric to measure exposure or quality of art, thatÂs just how it is. So the best solution that I can come up with is Â leave it. Instead, do more features of unknown artists, actively look for them, find those hidden away in the backs of the browsers. The people who want exposure? Comment thoughtfully, work harder, gradually gain those numbers, join clubs, do art trades, enter competitions. You and I are both rooting for being eventually recognized by those big sharks.

Haha, I just thought of an analogy that could work: Big fish in little pond becomes tiny bait in ocean. Until it starts to eat. Lol. X3 Okay, that was pathetic. Once again, my mind turns to food. I think its time for a snack.
