Sorry for the lack of news/updates/uploads as of late. Things have been busy and crazy and all around pretty hectic as I wind down my freshman year of college (already? wow).

I've been uploading new work slowly but steadily and although I am in no way receiving the kind of feedback or attention I did for my older pieces, I am prouder of these new ones and actually happier with them. Firstly, I have finally begun to understand what intrigues me about photos and why I want to take them. Secondly, I have started concentrating on themes more. And lastly, I have found my calling in film and not digital photography, especially 120 film which I have been shooting a lot. Overall I just feel better about where my photos are at right now, and I hope you're all enjoying it still.

The digital is basically over, and although I still love the work I did in my earliest days here, I am moving on and forward. (It's been almost three years since I joined dA! Wow.)

In October, I am looking forward to declaring a visual arts major. Yes! I'm very excited.

In other news, I cannot stop listening to Animal Collective rarities or Saul Williams. So good.

Thanks again for all the support, whether I am still hearing from you or not. It's great to have this outlet to submit work to and your feedback is always appreciated.

Cheers!

I realize it has been quite a while. I always realize I have been uploading new work at a slower and slower pace. Lets be honest here: I am a freshman at college and I am loving it and honestly have not put a lot of thought into this account recently.

However!
However...
my main wish here at school far away in the mountains of Vermont is to study the visual arts, primarily, yes! Photography. Because of this, when I can get into a digital darkroom or whatever and do some beautiful scanning work (finally on my own!) it will all be worth it.

I adore it here and am really indulging in everything they have to offer. Life is good. So good. I am exploring my art thoroughly. It's getting pretty frickin cold though so I better be careful.

Look for some photograms (new art form!) soon.

In the mean time, cheers!

Home from the trip. It was an incredible journey and I took a lot of pictures, with my new Canon G9 and my Canon EOS 10S (for which I used black and white Kodak ISO 400 film). I'd love to start getting stuff up right now, but unfortuanetly I leave again in just one day for some other priorities on the East Coast.

I will be back in the photo uploading groove after this next trip, I swear.

The jet setting is messing with my mind. I took four flights in the past two days and crossed four time zones, landing and staying in each one for at least 3 hours. I'm quite dizzy right now. I can't wait to be home just for a bit.

Until I can sit down and sift through the Europe Trip photos and do some work, enjoy the ones I have stocked in my "still need to share" pile, from a while back in May or June.

Thank you for all the support.
Cheers.

I hope this change hasn't affected too much. Obviously I am using manipulation in Paint Shop Pro way less, which I kind of like. I feel like my photography is more natural now, if you catch my drift. But I definitley haven't abandoned digital. In fact, my digital has died recently and I shopping for a new one. I don't want a huge one, but I want a good one, so I might spring for the Canon G9.

I reorganized my gallery completely. It's so nice. God I am an effing perfectionist.
New work?
I have a lot of photography to put up. I've been taking so many pictures these days, whether they are film or digital, and I am quite simply overwhelmed with the selecting.

Personal reflection
As I go more into film, I'm beginning to discover my two forms of art: digital and film. While my film photography remains completely untouched and very raw, my digital goes through more manipulation. I consider both to be art. In my eyes, I am in the practice of two completely seperate art forms. So exciting.

Look for this
During my Academy of Art class I took this fall (it starts again beginning February), we did polaroid transfers, which are extremely fun and interesting. I can't exactly explain it all, but for more, go to polaroid.com and click on "Creative" at the top. Find "image transfer", and it will explain it all.
In any case, I became quite obsessed with them.
I did about 40 in the class. Out of 40, 25 were failed attempts where the film got stuck in the slide printer or something went wrong in the transfer to the paper. But a lot came out great!
I will be scanning some in and posting them here to share.

New members of my artistic family
For Christmas, I received
-an Ultra 400 polaroid camera
-a Vivitar slide printer!

Huge HUGE gifts in my eyes. This mean I can now do poalroid transers from home, RIGHT IN MY BEDROOM. Exciting stuff.
Vivitar slide printer: it looks like this
It's an old 1980s thing. They are no longer made and quite a find on eBay.

That is all for now.
I look forward to exploring these new types of photography.

Till next time! Thank you for all the support!

My time spent here in dA has been wonderful, exciting, inspiring, and eye opening!

Currently, in my world...
I am waiting to hear back from the college to which I applied Early Decision. I really hope I can get in! It's pretty competitive in the ED round so I am a bit nervous. I am really looking forward to pursuing artistic photography and art history for the next four years of my life.

Like I said in my last journal, my style has been different when using film instead of digital. I find this to be very exciting, to watch this transformation. Although I have been on this site for more than a year, I am just starting to know what I like to shoot, what is beautiful to me, my own style...I am at the beginning of a discovery and it is very exciting.

All your support means everything to me.
Thank you.

Just thought I would give a little update.

The class I'm enrolled in is almost over, so we're just putting together our portfolios. It's very exciting.

I know my style sort of dramatically changed when this Saturday pre-college class started, but I hope you all have been enjoying certain aspects of it. Mostly, I think it's the distinction and difference between digital and film photography that I have discovered. I love both very much, and having this chance to experiment with film (and get my dad to pay for all of it at the same time hehe) has been really great. I love film and will definitley continue it.
But that doesn't mean I'm changing completely. I also love digital still, and haven't forgotten what I started out on. It's all great. Photography is wonderful (mmm what a quote).

In other news, the application for my early decision college choice is all ready to go and I am so psyched and ready. I can't wait. Really, I can't.

Wednesday I went to the SFMOMA donor preview for the Jeff Wall exhibit (it opened to the public today) and was totally blown away by his work. Fabulous. It made me want to go out and start shooting right then and there. His work is so amazing and I highly suggest you check it out. If an exhibit ever travels near you, GO. It's the way his work is presented that really amazed me, all backlit and on huge resolutions and scales. Wonderful wonderful work. Inspiring.

I guess that's all for now.
I will keep uploading and providing and sharing. However people react, that's for them. I just like reactions.

It has been a bit too long I decided.

I know things have been slow from my side here. I've been posting in slower intervals. This is for many reasons. I started my senior year of high school, and it's been extremely busy and tough. I'm still learning how to juggle everything and fit photography in as well. So, bear with me as I learn how to manage my time haha.

I also went through a rough patch in August with some unnecessary drama, but it's pretty much dealt with at this point. While it still hits me now and then in bad ways, I feel better and healthier already.

I do have many photos stored away waiting to go up. Like usual, I'm not going to post them all in one day. I like to spread out my work over time. I promise though, that the shots will go up. In the mean time, please enjoy any other work I have to offer. I was going through some old parts of my gallery and it was kind of fun. Haha. I hadn't done that in a while.

Thank you for the continuous support.
I got some amazing shots on this trip and I'll be putting them up, as well as other overdue shots from before I left, as I go. I just need to do a little stuff here and there. You know.

The trip was fabulous and a really great experience. I have always loved travel and seeing other countries. The plane part, not so much. I pretty much loathe planes, but once I get there, I am so happy. The trip was an amazing experience, really. I am so grateful to be able to travel like this at my age.

I have shots from Ireland and France. Maybe some from England...but we were there for a short period of time and I was jetlagged a lot haha. I also want to make sure what I put up and present to you is not cliche or overdone, because that happens with Europe. I was looking for new ways to look at things throughout the trip.

New shots soon!

Thank you for all the favorites and comments and while I was gone.
Sorry I didn't respond to all, I was a bit swamped/delusional from jet lag. Haha.

I figured it was time for a little update.
For your convenience, I've categorized my random ramblings (the best I can)

Notes
I know things have been moving sort of slowly around my gallery here...I apologize. I don't work fast or efficiently when I don't get a lot of feedback, and because feedback has been scarse, I've definitley slowed down significantly. I feel terrible. But I can't deny it. I live off of people's words and opinions. That's just the way I am!

It's been taking me forever to get all the photos from the "Tartuffe by Moliere" series up. I shot them at the beginning of June and I'm finally just about to get the last one up. After that I have all these shots from June and beginning July to look through and fix up and add borders...you know the drill. There's a long to do list, really! I just need to get through it. Hopefully next week will be my slow down week and I will do just that: slow down and work on my art.

My friend is visiting from France and I've wanted to hang out with friends a lot...it's been hard to get on the computer and just do stuff. I feel left behind but I'll work my way back, really I will.

In my life right now
I'm having a "tea time meeting" with my college counselor soon. In the mean time, she has asked that I get my list of 8 colleges I want to apply to ready. 8? Shit. I think I have 7, which is also fine, but it feels like a lot for some reason.

My computer flipped a shit on me yesterday and it really scared me. I thought I had lost everything. So I've been making back up discs for days now. It's insane, but I'm too scared I'll lose everything.

Tonight I see Harry Potter at midnight! Ron...oh god, I love him. I cannot wait.

Okay, so, that's about it right now.

Coming soon:
>Some nature shots
>Old railroad photos
>Alcatraz photo essay

I also have really nice photos from Muir Woods that I wanted to share but my teacher just filmed a movie there and they fined him, because apparently Muir Woods is copyrighted and you can't film there without consent? Fuck that. I mean, what the hell. It's NATURE. You don't fucking copyright nature.

Closing note:
Please check out my friend Steve's page. He is an amazing concert photographer and deserves your attention

He also happens to be really fucking rad.

It's taught me so much, helped me in my growth as an artist, given me an outlet in which to share my art, and it's been very fun along the way. I love deviantART and can't wait for many more years of this, sharing and seeing new art. This is definitley the best website on the internet right now.
Warning: The following insightful interesting journal entry is non of the before said. :] Tis a rant.

The month of May for me is one of constant turmoil and pressure.

We are preparing for three major exams that will all happen in the first week of June. After that, it's over. Thank God. But up till then, my life is a freakin' nightmare. I don't think I've ever felt more physically exhausted from writing and thinking. Yeah. My body hurts from thinking. I mean, wow.
I'm also in an arts festival at school, working in several different sectors, including: backstage, onstage, and in the visual arts portion.

On top of it all (wait kids! there's more!), my college search is entering it's intense phase. We have to start planning out a strategy since all applications are going to be done by December, which means
>a lot of summer essay writing
>application research and filling out

I have to write two big IB papers too: a comparative world lit paper, and a creative world lit paper.

I have photography all ready to go up, I just like pacing myself when I submit things. I'm not so much the "submit a bunch in a day" person. So just know there are new works, and they will come.

Thanks for reading my lame vent. <3
I'm out to sleep. Please, God, if you're there, I need this month to pass by smoothly.

As for alternative progress in my photos, I did a photo project with cousin Easter and I've finally gotten a name and idea to put the photos too. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you but it's not quite ready yet. :] It's my first long series ever so it's very exciting.
Probably a Verizon Chocolate. And I qualified for an upgrade when it broke so I get money off.
Yay.
I feel quite naked without it. I was texting my boyfriend and then my other friend started tickling me and then I fell on it and it just...snapped. Hehe.

New work coming up. I've been more into the thinking about what I want a photo to say, and not just what it says, you know? I have lots of ideas in my head that I hope to put into motion soon. It's very exciting.

This summer I have the big task of selecting about 40 pictures to put together in a portfiolio to send to the colleges in hopes of entering with some sort of scholarship for fine arts or just to enter the college in all. I read an article in the paper this morning about how smaller colleges are following the trend of bigger colleges and becoming more selective, and I also read that my generation that applies next year is the biggest one in a long while. So I have more to compete against. Eck. Help me.

I'm headed to all three days of Coachella by the way, so I want to put together a little portfolio from that, from my experience and all the people there, and just the atmosphere. Not necessarily the bands. I think I'd want to concentrate more on the life there, you know? Can't wait for all that. Three days of pure amazing music in the desert. This one goes down in the history books kids.

More new stuff soon. Thanks for all the watches and everything, you're all amazing. <3

I just got back from one of my final exams and I have to say it was killer. It was an oral exam, a follow up to a 25 page research paper I wrote where they could ask almost anything they wanted pertaining to anything surrounding my topic.

Murder, I tell you. Murder.

In any case, it ended being okay. I just feel exhausted and stressed. And what do I do when I feel like that? REFINE PHOTOS AND GET THEM READY FOR PUBLIC VIEWING. YEAH! I feel like some theme music should be coming in right there or something...like...music cue, go!
I have some great new works that I'm really proud of that should be going up soon. The most recent ones are like little experiments. I'm having fun.

School is really intense from now on because now everything I do is to prepare for the huge exams i take June that determine whether I receive a diploma or not. One of my final exams is for visual/theater arts and I will be using photogrpahy in it, so at least my photography can be brought into school somehow, right?
Not much else to report.
Yes. That is for everyone that ever scoffed or laughed at me for not attending school dances. For everyone that said "pffff" when I said I go to concerts instead.
In fact I am very happy.
I've started my college search. :] Just thinking and working on it excites me. I have a trip planned in February to visit a bunch of schools in the North East, and I had my first college counseling meeting Thursday. I also signed up to take the SATs March 10th. That's the not so great part, but hey!
I look forward to exploring all the school's and their photography majors. It's going to be exciting to study photography finally, and not just do it on my own or at summer classes.

In the meantime, don't let someone bring you down by saying what you do or who you are isn't right. The fact that you are here, now, living your life and getting through it, is a challenge in itself, and you are winning by simply continuing on. I salute you.

I was recently invited by a family friend who's a professional photographer to go on a shoot with her one day this week. I gladly accepted and today was the day I got to go.

It was a really amazing experience for me. The work she is doing is for "Red Envelope", which is a company specializing in catalog retail of items like jewerly, wallets, soaps, robes...gift like items. Today we were shooting in the studio, doing still lifes of objects like small cosmetics purses, vases, and hand bags. They were working on the mother's day issue (already! haha)

Basically what I did was assist in the styling and composition of the photos. I didn't take any myself, but I did set up a few with help from the professional stylist that was there working on them. Um, who knew it takes you an hour to photograph a jewerly box, as well as three backdrops, a vase, fresh flowers, and additional props.

I got to observe and learn how the process of a shoot in this field goes, and although it is not the field I want to pursue, it still fascinated me. I learned a lot of handy tricks as well, and how to set up a shot with clamps, levers, prop-ups...all sorts of stuff. I also got to ask questions on how to start up in the field, where to go, what to do...everyone had pointers for me.

It takes three people to take one photo: the stylist, who sets up and composes the still life or directs the models (today I got to do the still lifes). Next, the photographer, who does lighting and composition of the photo and physically handles all the photography equipment. And finally, the production manager (the friend who invited me to this) who oversees the whole thing and has the final say of what looks good, what doesn't, what to change.

It was a really great experience, like I said.
I learned a lot, saw a lot, made some friends in the business haha.

I definitley know this is what I want to do, just with bands for some music magazine since I'm into music a lot. But I did learn it could be nice to start off doing photography for a small company that may need me in some way. Not only that, I got pointers on the best photography schools on the East Coast (since I'll probably be heading over there).

Very productive day, to say the least.

I've decided to call it Open Umbrella Photography, and I am making a site as we speak, as well as comissioning a logo. I am very happy. Not only that, the domain name openumbrella.com is not taken so I can use it! Unfortuanetly, I don't have enough money to pay for one right now so I need to be hosted by free by a kind friend first.
It's a very exciting time. :]

Tomorrow I am doing shots of people at school, so that will be fun. Then I get to take a break to study for my exams for two weeks, then it's Christmas vacation, so there will be more photography then.

Tuesday my friend and I went to a beautiful garden area here and took picture after picture, just lots of them. It was fun, and the photos with really blue sky and green grass are the product of that time spent. :] It was gorgeous, but about 40 degrees fahrenheit! Cold for us here.
Two journal features. 251 page views (as I write this, that is). My gallery really started expanding.
Yeah, so, that photography camp (which was actually more of a class) turned out to be really fun and very informative. I learned a lot of stuff I didn't know and it was an oppurtunity to really take some good shots. We went to all sorts of places, including the Japanese Tea Garden here in San Francisco, and got to use her studio light for portraits and everything. My next few deviations will be from the class, I already have three up from it.

So...yeah. I'm kind of photographied out now. A week of nothing but shooting over and over and then having to sit around in a circle and look through everyones. There were only 8 people, but it felt like a lot. It probably was.

I took 225 pictures in an hour and a half at the Japanese Tea Garden. xD

I have a good amount of page views for the first week, and some people watching me. I also have a good amount of comments. Things are going well.

I'm now off for summer, and so I went on a photo spree the other day and today and took lots of still lives, then modified them in Paint Shop Pro to add borders and a bit of contrast. They look good, so, I plan on putting up most of my still lives and such in a little bit, once I get my other pics up from trips a while ago. Right now Tahiti pics are going up. I still can't believe them myself when I look at them.

So, mom signed me up for a week long photography camp starting Monday. Hoorah? I'm hoping I'll really learn some interesting things there and it won't just be me sitting there and taking pictures of bowls of fruit. The lady who runs it is supposedly a professional so...

Lots to do.

I like feedback. A lot.

Right now, I'm working on a photo essay for Elliott Smith's song "Roman Candle." It's going well...my dad lets me use his beautiful Canon DCV 8.1, with it's heavenly focus. *angelic music plays* It's going well but sometime I had no idea what to put with the lyrics. xD

I was also messing around with the contrast and brightness on some still life photos I had taken and I may put them up now. Usually I don't like my still life, but these look pretty good. I guesss I'm more of a spontaneous photographer. Anyway, I'll be putting up more photos as I get more into thr swing of things. =]

Feedback.
Remember.
Thanks.
