The new site construction is going well, although focusing on new art for it at the moment. I promised myself I would not post up any new art until the site's launch at the end of summer, so you folks might have to wait a bit longer.
Still debating if I will put the new art on DA.. maybe, maybe not. We'll see I guess. Putting the new art on here when it comes time will defeat the purpose of the new site in my opinion, so probably not (also the fact I was never too crazy about DA to begin with).
Anyhoo, here is the soon to be location of the new site, for those few of you who can't get enough mAz art.

[link]

EDIT: Will need a bit longer to finalize things on the site.
Too much rain here.. I'm almost missing the droughts from a year ago.

On the good side, I'm actually getting shit done.

Been busy working on the blueprints of a Mazworks III site. It's something I didn't think I would end up doing again, but I've been given some reliable netspace from a local friend of mine a couple months back.. so I figured it was time to start putting it to some use. It's likely that this will be the last art/fiction site I'll actually bother with anyways.

I'm going to be focusing mostly on side stories to the overall story of Saxxony, the first being Sondre and the Southpaw. This takes place right after the fall of Teeka Academy and has the dramatic changing of Toka Academy for boys, which loses it's Toshima Empire standards and becomes independent.. all the while Nori rages war against humanity on mainland Toshima. It will focus on Donovan (Southpaw) and his unwillingness to participate in the troubles aftering being "poisoned" by his former lovers Maki and Nori. The newish, gothy, half-banshee Sondre will be the main fem who takes an interest in Donovan (after she tries to kill him). It will also have Krikket before her bar-brawling years, as well as Meere the naga (who was eventually released from her captivity). Cleo will be there too, although as a banshee (she was killed allegedly by Nori the night Teeka academy fell).

There will be plenty of new characters as well, like Hector, Donovan's distant cousin who "hires" Southpaw to help his train the students at Toka. He's loosely based off of Walter from the Big Lebowski, and involuntarily gave Krikket her exceptional cussing ability.

A new villianess, Puzzele, a possessed puppetwoman who uses the live, severed head of a man (Garmador) as a weapon. Their history is still being created, but most likely Garmador will be a wacked scientist/sorceror who lost his marbles, has visions of conquering the world, and created Puzzele as a guardian for his.. head. heh

There are other additions to come as I continue to write the fiction. It will be mostly in writing, with the occasional art pic entwined with the story.. so it will be like an illustrated book style.. and will be comedy mixed with the occasional seriousness and weirdness.

So here's hoping for a mid to late summer release.

There will be fully detailed bios of the charcters as well, something I always liked having somewhere on the site. Plus other semi-interesting stuff.

At least, that's what I'm hoping for. So far this year I've been WoW free, and I plan to keep it that way for the time being. Kind of surprising since the expansion pack just came out in Nov of last year.. but I was never much of a raider anyways (some would call me more of a notorious ganker than anything else).
Trying to get a table at this years MTAC in Nashville. They seriously bumped up the rules this year (surprisingly more in my favor, for they no longer allow the selling of fan art), and I actually have to send in a portfolio for them to review before I can get accepted. Usually for conventions I would just have to sign up for a table.. and that was it.
Not having to compete against the fanart is always good for artists like me. I figured that people selling their versions of Naruto and Final Fantasy characters always did make an immensily higher profit than me at cons.. it just never really bothered me much. I just thought it was one of those things I had to deal with. But now that I think about it.. it makes me not want to sell prints/commissions at conventions like AWA anymore because of the lax rules of the artist alley.
Perhaps AWA will be just a "tournament" convention from now on.. or a place to meet up with online buddies.
As for artwork, I'm working on just print worthy pics right now.
Too many distractions these days.
I've recently decided doing fiction again along with some art on the side. Comic book drawing is just too time consuming, and I have to worry about too many things (proportions, spacing, expressions, lighting, shading, etc.). Sure, I could simplify it all to a point where it looks ugly, but that's not what I want. Hell, I don't even color it and it still takes me forever. If I had a team (or at least one other artist) to help me, yah, perhaps things would be different.. but I don't see that happening.
Fiction writing was always sort of my second (third if you count vidgames) hobby - If I didn't feel like drawing, this is what I would do. I consider my fiction decent (aside from some grammatical problems and other things), and I always found it wayyyy easier to do than comic book drawing. You can get alot more across writing fiction as well as opposed to comics. Plus, if I make it like an illustrated book, all the better. We'll see.

Btw, AWA was good. I had my buddy down there to keep me company. Only bad part was a got a nasty crack in my windshield driving down there to Atlanta.. and had some difficulty finding a gas station that actually had gas on the way home. It was fun though.. a much needed break from the same ol.

EDIT: I do plan on getting a table at the next MTAC in Nashville. It seems to be my con of choice now to sell me warez. AWA artist alley these days is just too saturated with artists I feel are way more awsome than I am and/or alot more dedicated to what they are doing anyways.
Might make a third appearance at San Diego Comic Con as well next year.. maybe. Though no way in hell I would even try to get an art table there.
I should try to get some new CGs done. I'm not gonna have a table.

They, (the AWA staffies) decided to open registration for artist tables approximately four months ahead of time (back in march instead of june) on their site, and I missed the window. They sell out in like 48 hours, so ya gotta be quick. I had absolutely no idea they were doing this. Although, I was debating if I was going to have a table this year anyways. So they just finalized that decision for me.. and the answer is no.
Although I WILL in fact be there (hopefully enjoying myself), probably in the game room playing Soul Calibur 4, or hanging around Fred Perry's table. If you didn't see the edit in my last journal, I decided to take the month off from putting new pages up. Now, that doesn't mean I'm not working on new arts though - I try to squeeze in some art time as much as I can through the holidays.. though the clean-up, shading, and word-bubbles are the real pain in the ass to do, so that part I'll get back into come January.
The second part of Saxxony (where Krikket is the main character) is now underway. I may post some teaser pix in the next week or so.

After trying for three years to get a table at this con, I finally got one. It was usually just bad timing on my part (and a little bit of them selling the tables at weird times), was the reason I could never seem to obtain one.. even though I usually go to this con for a day or so to enter Soul Calibur tourneys (didn't this year because they scheduled a SC3 tourney AT the con - they had no plans to do one a day before it.. I was a little miffed about this). So, I have a reason to go all three days now that I have a table, which is good. Not to mention my folks live about 40 miles from the con, so that makes things more convenient for me. As long as I don't have to do car repair, any $ I make there will be going to the "Maz needs a PS3 fund".. for Soul Calibur and Tekken of course. No 360 please.

Anyhoo, I've decided to put some (if not all) of the pages of Saxxony (chapter 0 and 1) on DA for all to see.. considering getting a free account at Comicspace to view my work is such a ginormous task for some people. There are more watermarks on it though, so if you wanna see it without the big "mAz" in the middle, you gotta go to comicspace.
Don't think I'll be attending AWA this year - too many of my online friends are bailing, and pretty sure there wont be a SC tourney of any kind. Kinda sad because I can get in free from winning a tourney last year, and I have a nice table in a AA all ready for me. Honestly though, without people I know there, it will be just too boring. Not to mention I don't have much to sell for prints this year.

EDIT: May still go this year - perhaps just for fri and sat. Found someone who will share the table with me, so all is well. If anything, I'll be able to beat up people in SC3 again.

First off, another rant on an old issue that is not aging well with me..

I'll tell ya, kids on DA really need to get their act together about the whole copyright issue.

Once again, I found another person coloring my art and giving me absolutely no credit for the original line art. Come on people. Just because you color one of my pix does NOT make it completely yours (only people with fukked-up mentality/morality issues think this way.. and I can name a few). It's bullshit like this that made me leave DA to begin with. Really, it's fine and dandy if someone takes the time to color one of my pix, but for christ's sake, LEAVE the SIGNATURE, or give me some type of credit somewhere. It's not that hard to do.. even if you have to cut and paste my sig from another one of my works because you accidentally colored over it, that's fine.
I'm really starting to think these thieves won't take the art down to correct it for the mere fact it will erase whatever comments to that pic, or it's just too much of a hassle. :\
You see, when people take my hard work like that, it forces me to put those ugly watermarks on pix. Though, apparently that isn't enough these days.
I suppose I should expect this crap to happen here. Those morons who run DA refuse to do anything about this type of stuff, so it's no use pestering them about it. Lemme guess - art police is only available to subscribers..? Wouldn't doubt it.
I've had thoughts about returning to SheezyArt lately, but I seriously doubt any of this poop will stop even if I did that.
I can't wait until people start selling my stuff claiming it's their own. Probably has already happened behind my back. T_T
I know this problem can be worse, way worse.

Anyways on a lighter note..

The comic is coming along very well.. albeit slower that I would like, but still progressing regardless. I will be putting up some new samples in the next day or so.
Still planning on attending AWA in Atlanta in September. Should have a table this time hopefully. I just gotta figure out what the hell I'm gonna sell aside from commissions. Trying to raise up enough to get a new PC.

Hope everyone had some good holidays. Mine were decent, but they could always be better.
For the first time in a long while, I am pleased. Why? Because finally I have a partner in crime to do a comic book. And to top it off, it's someone I've known for the past ten years. He is reliable, talented, and lives in the same town I do.
Years of doing art by myself, and not getting anywhere on my own, has made me realize I needed help in getting a comic off the ground. So far three attempts at doing my own comic have failed miserably (mostly due to the workload getting outta hand)- and I'm aiming to stop that trend this year. I am getting older.. and I feel the need to do something soon.
The wheels were finally set in motion last night as he visited and I discussed what I had planned. It's something I told him about last month, but with the holidays n' stuff he could not come to a decision until now.
Perhaps I'm just being a little too hopeful - perhaps a little too excited. But I need stuff like this just to keep me going. Plus this is the best thing to happen to me since.. corned beef.

Other Stuff
------------
Some of you all probably wonder why I put the "critique discouraged" when posting replies. Number one reason: I am a perfectionist when it comes to my art. And if we know anything about perfectionists, they don't stop until they get something right. So in other words, if someone pointed out a problem with a piece of my art, I would end up going back into it over and over. Sure it's not a bad thing at all - I might even learn something along the way. The problem is TIME CONSUMPTION. Really, wouldn't people rather see me doing new art instead of constantly going back into older pieces and trying to fix little
quirks? I'm already a slow-ass artist, I don't need to be any slower. Also, 99% of the time I know the quirks in my own art, so I don't need anyone telling me about them.
I just try my best. If an elbow doesn't look quite right at a certain angle, if a leg isn't aligned properly with the ground.. so mote it be. I may be a perfectionist, but I'm anything but perfect. Just don't bother pointing the problems out, because chances are I know they are there. I just prefer to work on new art.
Watermarks: I've had a couple of my works stolen, hence it's really the only way to protect my art. The tend to be ugly and annoying, but alas.. they are necessary. Perhaps if DevArt actually did something about art theft, I wouldn't put them on there. There is a reason why I've been inactive here for over two years..and sadly, nothing gets done about that particular issue.

A hearty hello to those out there I do and do not know, and merry holidays to you all. ^^
I've been working on some spidery CGs the past week or so, and hopefully I'll get them on here ASAP.. as well as other new (and perhaps a bit old) art stuff.
As far as I know, I'll be heading to AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta) next year for my 5th consecutive return. Only if my car blows up will I not be going (hey it could happen . Hopefully I'll have a table this time around as well.
Don't know about SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) yet. All depends on how the bones roll.
I might look into MTAC (Middle Tennessee Anime Convention) again as well.. only if they have somewhat of an artist alley this time around will I be attending. Soul Calibur tourneys are cool, but I don't particularly care to drive to a con just to play games.

Lotta new features, seems pretty cool. ^^
My main project right now is called "The SpiderElves of Toshima". It is a full color comic book which I have been working on the past few months. The story revolves around An'Mira the SpiderElf and her unusual journeys.. and the bizarre lifestyle of a spider elf.
It's alot of hard work working on it by myself, but hopefully one day it will pay off. I plan to submit the pages to a publishing company when enough is finished.
Still alot of young folks on here (no surprise) - the real shocker is how talented some of them are at such an early age. Some of them are less than half my age (which just makes me feel old).

But anyhoo, glad to be back! ^^

Please report any art theft you find. I've only been back here less that a day, and already someone told me there was a ripped picture of mine still on DevArt. It's one of the main reasons I left here in the first place. I won't leave for the time being, but this crap has GOT to be cleared up. :\

I'll write more in the future, but that's it for now.

I am currently looking for folks who are interested in Driders and "spi-taurs" in general.
