Pernah dengar kata-kata "rumput tetangga lebih hijau daripada rumput sendiri"? Saya baru aja merenungkan kata-kata itu dan saya sampai pada kesimpulan bahwa kenyataan bahwa rumput tetangga lebih hijau daripada rumput sendiri adalah karena kita kurang mengairi rumput sendiri. Rumput tetangga tidak begitu saja menjadi lebih hijau. Dan rumput kita tidak begitu saja menjadi lebih tidak hijau. Semua tergantung bagaimana kita mengurus dan mengairi halaman kita sendiri.

Banyak orang yang kabur dan memilih masuk ke halaman tetangga karena rumput tetangga terlihat lebih hijau dan mereka menginginkan hijau tersebut. Tapi sebenernya mereka tidak akan mendapatkan hijau tersebut karena rumput itu hijau bukan karena itu milik tetangga, tapi karena rumput itu diairi. Malah masuk ke halaman orang sebenarnya berisiko sekali; bukannya dapet rumput yang lebih hijau, bisa-bisa malah dapet halaman yang lebih gersang daripada halaman sendiri.

Dari pemikiran di atas (yang kayanya agak-agak membingungkan), saya lalu jadi mikir, gimana cara mengairi rumput sendiri supaya menjadi hijau lagi dan lebih hijau daripada rumput tetangga?

Saya bisa bilang, dalam satu hubungan kegaringan itu terjadi terutama karena lack of understandings: salah paham, saling tidak percaya, saling tuding, dsb. Cara pertama untuk mengatasi ini adalah dengan menyadari bahwa pasangan kita BERBEDA dengan kita. Pasangan kita adalah individu yang tidak sama, tidak pernah sama, dan tidak akan pernah sama dengan kita. Pernah denger kata-kata "women are from Venus, men are from Mars"? Nah, sebenernya kata-kata itu berarti, you and him/her are pretty much not the same. And you and him/her have to realise this in any of your relationship if you really wanna make it work out and last.

Hubungan yang benar adalah hubungan yang pertama kali dilandasi oleh kesadaran bahwa dia berbeda, dia bukan diriku, dan dia tidak akan pernah menjadi sama seperti diriku. Dan hubungan yang benar dan sukses adalah hubungan yang selalu diwarnai dengan kesadaran tersebut, dan saling memahami dan mempertemukan perbedaan masing-masing. Kalau kita terus berpikir bahwa dia sama dengan kita, lama-lama kita akan kecewa karena sedikit demi sedikit kita akan tau bahwa dia tidak sama dengan kita. Dan lalu kita akan mulai sedikit-sedikit melirik rumput tetangga (yang katanya lebih hijau) dan selanjutnya bisa kamu kira-kira sendiri.

Banyak orang berpikir, "Ah dia dulu sama kok denganku.. kita punya banyak kesamaan.. tapi sekarang engga.. dia berubah!" tapi sebenernya apakah betul perasaan itu? Atau perasaan itu hanya timbul karena kita belum benar-benar mengenal pasangan kita?

Intinya adalah.. don't ever start a relatonship thinking that he/she's much the same with you karena itu hanya akan membuatmu stres dan frustrasi setiap kali dia berbeda darimu. Itu hanya akan membuatmu menuntut sesuatu yang bukan dirinya. Itu hanya akan membuatnya menjadi orang lain.

Start a relationship thinking that he/she's different with you. Dari situlah kita bisa menapak step selanjutnya untuk saling mengerti dan memahami satu sama lain. In the end, kita akan merasa lengkap karena kita dan pasangan kita bisa saling melengkapi. Itu yang dinamakan: mencintai apa adanya.
