Mom took me to the mall today, to spend my gift cards from Christmas and earlier.
I had $85 worth of Best Buy cards, $50 of Target, and $105 of Gamestop. I used the Best Buy ones to buy seven albums, and the Target ones to buy Mass Effect, a new CD rack, ArtRage 2.5, some new headphones, and an electric guitar tuner.
A good haul, I'd say.

Still have the Gamestop ones. We're gonna find out if we can move our modem up to my room or not. If so, we'll do that and I'll spend 'em on games. If not, I'll probably spend 'em on a wireless adapter so I can use the XBOX Live.

It's gotta be illustrated, so I'm actually looking forward to it. I've already got my idea, but I haven't started writing yet. I'm thinking I'll upload it here, too. Or at least post a link to a place for you to download a PDF version. I wish I had Flash so I could make it, like, an interactive book kinda thing. But I don't.
I'm also really enjoying my Computer Graphics and Advanced Art 1 classes. They're both coming pretty easy to me, and they've both got cool projects.

Anyway, uh, there's that, then. I've been drawing a lot, but not really completing anything enough to upload. I do have one thing that I could maybe put in my Scraps, but that's it. Oh, and I guess I could upload the poster I made for CG... But it sorta possibly infringes on copyright law, since I used a picture of Trey Anastasio that I got from Google. This photo, to be specific. I have no idea who it belongs to, so I'm not sure if I can use it outside an educational setting. It's not like that stops most people, but I'd rather avoid any possible legal trouble.

I met some cool folks, web-comic authors, y'know. Bought seven fuckin' shirts. I bought volume one of Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire and Mookie autographed it for me, that cool dude. I met Jeph Jacques from Questionable Content, Ed Ryzowski from Geek Tragedy, I saw Ananth and Hawk from AppleGeeks, I caught a brief glimpse of Tim Buckley, I saw Scott Ramsoomair a couple times, and spoke with either JD from Exploding Duck/Ecks Dee or Duke from Ansem Retort (it was the Ansem Retort booth; I'm not sure which guy it was). He seemed surprised that I was already a reader.
I felt really awkward at every booth. I mean, here are these people, who write and/or draw these comics that I love, and they're right there, and just... It's times like that when I wish I weren't so socially inept.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find the Diesel Sweeties booth. I also didn't see any of the panels in the demo rooms. Still, I had a good time. I'm gonna be doing it next year, I hope. Maybe next time I can go for more than one day!
Oh, we also saw someone in a fursuit. It was kinda neat, actually. It was one of the ones where it's just the head, hands, and feet, and the wearer wears his/her normal clothes. Brandon got at least one photo, and hugged him/her.
And I had a pleasant chat with The Joker, too. He told me the story of how he acquired his scars.
There were many cosplayers there, dressed up as anime characters, video game characters, sci-fi, fantasy, comics, the internet, all sorts. Some of the best we encountered were Weegee, Zoidberg, Abraham Lincoln, Ozzy Osbourne, and "The Butcher King."

In other news, I feel like shit at the moment. I feel frustrated, because I feel like I can't draw anything good right now. I tried drawing a page of the comic, and I sketched out and started going over panel one, but I can't do more than that. The idea is already there, I just don't feel like I can adequately draw it at the moment. So I started doodling a sloppier comic, and I just can't come up with an idea for it. I feel uncreative, untalented, and generally down. This may have to do with the incredible amount of awesome in terms of art and creativity I encountered today, or I may just be depressed. I really don't know.
I may sketch a bit, just to get the juices flowing, but don't expect any uploads soon.
To make matters worse, I still haven't even made an effort towards the school assignments I'm supposed to complete over the summer. Am I trying to screw up my life?

First of all, a lot of web-comic artists I dig are gonna be there, selling crap that I will buy, including Jeph Jaques of Questionable Content, Ananth & Hawk from AppleGeeks, Rich Stevens of Diesel Sweeties, and other cool folks with great comics.
I also found out that there's an anthro art panel, which at least three of us in the group are gonna check out.
Holy shit, I'm so excited! I'm gonna buy a QC shirt, for sure. Maybe a Diesel Sweeties one, too.

Oh, and I joined FAP today. I guess everyone from FA joined it after FA decided it sucked so hard. But, then, FA will (allegedly) be back soon, so... Whatever, another site for me to get hooked on.

It's this Japanese anime series made in Flash about a guy named Catman who lives in a place full of cat-people and he does stuff. It's weird, but still awesome. There's no audible dialogue, but it has subtitles in English and Japanese when they do say things. The soundtrack is one of the best things about it; it's entirely by The Planet Smashers, a Canadian ska band I like. How sweet is that? It's also a TV series, apparently, since it says "Presented by Fuji Television Network, Inc" in every episode.

ABOUT THE TRIP

It was a whole lot of fun. Saw cool stuff, spent some time with some relatives, ate some good food, drove a lot.

First day (not counting the day the plain got in) was mainly spent driving around Tiburon and the Bay Area with my aunt and uncle. My love of salami was rekindled when we went to Whole Foods and got sangwiches.

We (my mom and I) went to Monterey after that and checked all that out. Cannery Row is ENTIRELY commercial, and the Monterey Aquarium is less than impressive. It was cool, though, I guess. We saw some guitarist playing and singing for cash, and he was pretty good. He played "What I Got" by Sublime, "Under the Bridge" by Red Hot Chili Peppers, and some other stuff.

We went to Yosemite, and that was cool. Saw six mule deer. Three bucks, a doe, and two yearlings of indeterminate gender. No bears, though. Or cougars...

When we got to the city itself, it was chilly. I bought a sweatshirt, which I will now wear when it gets chilly again. I also bought a couple pairs of jeans.

We went to SFMOMA and it kicked some ass. Not as good as the one in New York, but, eh, a MOMA's a MOMA. Had a bit too much old photography for my taste, could've used some more painting and shit. Not that I'm saying photography is inferior, just... Most of the stuff in the museum was from, like, the thirties, and that's not what I think of as modern, y'know?

We also went to the Legion of Honor, but we didn't see the whole thing. Just the ancient art and sculptures. It was big, we were running out of time, and we'd seen plenty of really old paintings elsewhere. Oh, wait! No, we did check out one painting section. I forget what it was, but it was cool. Like, 19th and 20th century painting and whatnot. Cool stuff.

We also checked out a couple schools, one of which I liked very, very much, and the other... Not so much. Ex'ression School was amazing, focusing on the digital arts and only offering four majors. I don't even need a portfolio to get in! I can take a drawing test instead! And the environment was great, and it's better paced and blah blah awesome blah. The Art Institute of California: San Francisco campus was not what I imagined. The featured work was unimpressive for the most part, and the campus was in the "colorful" (read: "full of homeless people") area of San Fran. I don't think I'll apply to that one, heh heh.

Uh, I guess that's enough, eh?

I played GTA IV, by the way. It kicks ass, yo. Niko Bellic is (from what I've played) the best protagonist in the series so far. Graphics just blow away all the previous games, though they could be better; I mean, have you played ES4: Oblivion? Controls were a little glitchy, but better than the previous ones (I think). The game is rather cinematic, and I like that about it. It's very fun.

There's this game I downloaded yesterday and played today and it's totally awesome. It's called Nexuiz. It's like Quake 3, but free and with more weapons. It has a fully-automatic rocket launcher, okay. It works on Mac, Windows, and I think Linux. It's got online multiplayer. It's focused on online multiplayer. Another way of saying that last bit is "single player mode is boring and stupid." My nickname for it is "Gotiki." Get it and then tell me your nickname, okay? We should definitely play sometime.

Anyway, y'know what I hate? When people post their picture/animation/whatever on an art site and then complain when they get criticism. Well, no, that's not the main thing - though I do hate that, too. What I hate is when they reply to one's criticism with "IF U DONT HAVE ANYTHING NICE 2 SAY, DONT SAY ANYTHING!!!1"
Seriously, just shut up, alright? I mean, you're posting to an art site, get ready for criticism. And this site allows you to turn off comments, so if you don't want criticism, turn off the comments.
Now, flaming is one thing. I think you should ignore it, not make a big deal out of it, but at least I can see where you're coming from. But criticism? No. Get out. It doesn't have to be constructive criticism, just shut up. I like to be constructive with my criticism, but sometimes, something is just so bad that you can't really be constructive.
We are allowed to voice our opinions on your work when you put it here for us to see. If you don't want people "saying mean things" about your art, disable the comments. Or, better yet, don't post it! Seriously, I hate when people are like that. It's worst when you actually do give constructive criticism, and they still write it off as flaming. I can understand your annoyance if someone just criticized, didn't actually say anything nice, but when they're giving nice criticism, it's as far from flaming as you can get without praising it absolutely.

Damn, it's so annoying.

It's stomach was cut open, too, so we saw what it ate before it was slaughtered to make your delicious bacon. Yummy. Saw it's stomach, lungs, kidneys, pancreas, bladder, small and large intestines, rectum, butthole, trachea, voicebox, and dick. Yep. That's bio class for ya. It almost got rained on, too, cos the weather was just crazy and bipolar today. Yep.

Saw IRON MAN today. FUCKING WIN.

Been playing with the Pokeymans lately. Downloaded ROMs of some of the games. Most recent ones I've played: Pokemon TCG (Gameboy Color), Pokemon Gold Version (GBC), Pokemon Green Version (Gameboy; Japan only), Pokemon Ruby Version (Gameboy Advance). I hate how they keep adding crazy new Pokemon, but Ruby is still fuckin' cool. So... Different from the older ones. Also, Green's not so great.

Kevin and I decided on a new comic-making method. We both come up with a general idea for a story arc, he does the details and some story-boarding, I draw up the final. Badabing. Badaboom. He's working on one now, non-continuous. A one-shotter.

The censoring and required covering in public of breasts is based on outdated, illogical concepts. I've even noticed that the more I realize this, the less aroused I am by breasts. Don't get me wrong, I still love 'em, but... It's just not the same, anymore. I saw a photograph that inspired me to write this journal ("flame" by =nikosalpha) that, upon viewing, I thought, "Damn! That is some awesome lighting!" as opposed, "Damn! That's a nice rack!" or something along those lines.

Breasts are simply another part of the body, and not like how some claim "Oh, penises are just another part of the body!" or "Vaginas are just another part of the body!" (though technically these two statements are accurate). As previously stated, breasts are not sexual organs. They don't play a direct role in reproduction. They do indirectly, I suppose, since breast-feeding infants is generally a good idea, but it's technically no longer necessary.

I am reminded of MTV's request of Micheal Stipe regarding the music video for "Pop Song 89" by REM; specifically Stipe's reply after placing black bars over the three topless women in the video and himself, who was shirtless: "a nipple is a nipple" (read more here)

So, I have some ideas:
~ Stop censoring breasts in the media, including television.
~ Don't include breasts under "Indecent Exposure."
~ Don't require high-school and college-age women to wear bras.

Really, I think it's ridiculous and a double standard. And I'm sure most males who see this will go "HELL YEAH, BUDDY! TITS!!" and many females will say I'm being sexist, which is really completely inaccurate; if anything, I'm being feminist. Men are allowed to go topless (though some places of business may have different policies) so why not women? That's not exactly fair, now, is it?

In lighter, non-feminist, music-related news, check out Great Big Sea's cover of REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)"! It's fantastic! GBS is the band that did the music in the intro/trailer for the "Least I Could Do" animated series.

Oh, and for the record: Men can be feminists, too. A feminist is anyone, regardless of gender, who supports EQUAL RIGHTS for women. That means the women who consider themselves superior to men are NOT feminists, but rather... Well, technically, sexists.

It's been a good run for him, and he says he's not done with comics, but has moved on mentally from O&M and wishes to give them the ending they deserve instead of just continuing them, since it would then become work, and they wouldn't be as good. So, I wish Mr. Simpson the best (as if he cares) with his life, and I look forward to seeing what he has to offer in the future. He did mention how he would like to see what the characters would be like in high school... I also plan to check out his purely political comic I Drew This, which you should too, as it's almost definitely great.

Also, I have a stomach ache.

Funny, well choreographed, good singing, amazing acting, and the most awesome sets ever. The guy who played Igor (PRONOUNCED EYE-GORE) was great. He was almost the star of the show, and undoubtably the best actor on the stage. Although, Andrea Martin vas very gut as vell. (She played Frau Blucher (*EVERY HORSE IN THE WORLD WHINNIES AT ONCE*))
Also, many, many, many panty shots.

Also, I got a Beavis & Butthead shirt at the MTV store. It's got the two of 'em as skeletons, ROCKIN OUT!
And we went to the biggest SamAsh I've ever seen, and I tried out an electronic drumkit. It was great. The store was divided into four sub-stores, one for electronic stuff (keyboards, synths, speakers, mixers, etc.), one for drums, one for guitars and basses, and one for classical/orchestral instruments (and maybe sheet music?).
I loved it.

Ok, anyone here ever know someone, but not really as friends, per se, and then you don't really see each other for like...a year, and then suddenly, he/she says "hi" to you out of nowhere when you run into each other, and you just can't think of his/her name? That happened to me today. I just said, "Oh, hi." and kept walking to my bus. It was...weird. I don't remember what the hell her name is.

Also, science class was delicious and great today. I wish it had been graded. I ate brownies with marshmallows on them.

Also, I'm swapping desks with my mom and moving the printer/scanner/copier in my room and hooking the new printer up in her room, since I'm the only one who actually needs the scanner. And then, with my scanner, desk, MacBook and tablet, Stuff! The Comic's first story arc will begin.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is AMAZING.
I beat medium single player campaign, almost through hard, and about halfway through expert. 8D
But...I only have one guitar. So I'm thinking about getting Guitar Hero 2 with guitar (for XBOX 360) but only if the GH3 Les Paul controller will work with it, cos I'm not gonna buy a whole other game, and then buy a THIRD controller just to play IT! Although...GH2 IS quite good...
Whatever. So if anyone knows if Les Paul will work with Guitar Hero 2, TELL ME!!

Anywho...
Yeah.
I'm on SheezyArt now. I'll still go here, but...I dunno, I might focus on uploading to that, might stay here, I have no idea. But, anyway, I'm Gotiki so...go say hi! 8D

I'm in a band now. Well...sorta. We still haven't totally figured everything out, and it's not like we're gonna be looking for gigs or anything. Just for fun. I'll be playing keyboard, and possibly singing on some songs. We're all gonna share vocals, depending on the song. We've got a drummer, who's my friend Mario, and well...he was in it when it started. It started as a band that he and another of my friends started, along with my other friend's brother. Anyway, we've also got a harmonica player/bassist. At least until we can find a bassist who's good at it. Because he says he's not great at bass, just alright. But, hey, harmonica would be interesting, right? His name's Brendon or Brandon or something along those lines. He's obsessed with anime and dresses emo. He's kinda weird, but whatever. Then, the SECOND drummer is my ex-girlfriend Shelby, who is romantically interested in Mario, who has a girlfriend. Yes, it's very confusing. Anyway, Mario would be singing most of the time, so Shelby'd be drumming while he sings, cos apparently he can't do both at once. Only simple drumming parts for her, though, apparently. Otherwise, Mario'll drum. I think she can play guitar, too. Can't remember, haven't seen her in months. Whatever, I'm getting tired, think I'll head off to bed.
