Went to NY sheep and wool at Rhinebeck on Sat. the 17th, and had a blast! Went with a friend and her daughter, and saw lots and lots of fiber, and bought a fleece and a half as well as several ounces of other fibers. Checked to see how my skeins I entered into the handspun competition had done, and found that out of seven skeins entered into six categories, I had seven ribbons! Hooray! So I decided that my shops should have a sale to celebrate (www.dragonmaille.etsy.com and Dragonmaille Designs on www.spindiesfiber.com). I also got myself a new domain name, [link]. I'm planning dragon-themed fibers and yarns to come, once I figure out what colors I want to dye.

You'd think unemployed would mean less busy, but that is not the case! Frankly, seems that I'm more busy, if anything. However, some really good opportunities have come up, and I've been able to keep up with my spinning, at least, if not my jewelry. Though I am starting to combine the two, and have a couple of examples for sale in my Etsy shop, [link].

Gonna try to post some more stuff soon--if I sit down the kids usually take this as a cue to clamber onto my lap. I lost my job last fall due to the failing economy, so I'm looking forward to the opportunities God has in store for me. Unfortunately, it also means we're much more budgeted....

Things to be thankful for as the new year starts? Family. Friends. Stashes of fiber, yarn, and tea!
For some reason, October is the month that seems to have major events happen--some good, some bad, some very bad. We had the anniversaries of my wedding, Divine Bird's wedding, and the two year anniversary of my brother-in-law's death all within three days of each other.

Then we had Rhinebeck, also known as the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. I won four ribbons(!) on skeins I entered into the handspun competition, one of which was first place(!!) in it's division. Yay! Another good thing happening!

Then the good event was followed (very quickly, mind you, lest I bask in success for too long) by an event I will currently classify as bad, though I haven't decided yet how bad it really was. It may end up being a good thing in the long run, but it certainly has upended things for me here, and I still feel rather in shock and out of sorts about it. Not gonna say what it was yet, as some of my dA buddies don't know yet (I think, though they may figure it out....) and I wanna tell them in person first.

Well, things have been busy but fruitful--thouh not always in the way I expect. Haven't gotten much spinning done (thought I would), but I did sell my first skein of handspun yarn, and some more of my jewelry (yay! I can fund my habit!), and now I am doing the newsletter for my spinning guild. I'm looking forward to it, I just hope I can get plenty of articles to fill up some of the space. I think it'll be a lot of fun--it's been a while since I've worked on anything like this. We finally have a kitchen back--cooked in the new kitchen for the first time tonight (microwaving doesn't count). It's soooo nice to have a good kitchen finally. I may even have to cook more. More meaning just about any cooking at all. I am definitely not the cook in the family. Not that my husband is around to cook dinner anymore....

Hopefully I can get some pictures taken of the stuff I have worked on, since I did do some spinning and some more jewelry since my last post. Now that the baby is extremely mobile, it's hard to get anything done that she can't get her fingers on, but maybe I can convince my husband to occupy her for a while this weekend....

I'm hoping to get back to some jewelry making soon, and spinning some more even sooner. I haven't touched my wheel except to move it out of the way in about a week and a half. If I didn't spindle, I'd have gotten no spinning done at all! I did finish one of the socks I'm knitting for Goku, and will soon move on to socks for R. At least that'll have the satisfaction of quick finish. I have a button loop to make and I'll have R's sweater done. Which means she might get it for Christmas. *sigh*

Surprisingly, my newest updates are for spinning. You'd think that with a 4-year-old and a 3-month-old, I wouldn't have the time, but somehow I do. Not as much as before I went back to work again, and the beginning of the week is usually shot because the baby gets rather upset on Mondays when her mommy is gone in the morning when she wants to eat (who wants the bottle when you can have the real thing?), and she spends most of the rest of the day nursing. It usually carries over into Tuesdays a bit too.

...but at least I can do my knitting or crochet even when she won't let me spin. Much to my surprise, I'm almost done with the sweater I've been knitting her. Of course, with the way she's growing, not only will it be nearly summer by the time I'll be done, but she probably won't even fit into it anyway. She is only 3 months old, but she's starting to outgrow her 6 month size clothes. I put the 12 month size boots on her that her brother used to wear, just because I had no more booties to fit--I was fully expecting them to promptly fall off her feet. Nope. Stayed right on, no worries about them falling off at all. Talk about weedish growing.

Anywho, here's some more yarn, and hopefully knitting and crochet stuff to follow. Some of it I just have to get photos of, which takes far longer than it should.

Well, I cannot be called a fiber noob anymore. This last weekend I went to Rhinebeck. I have heard about it for years, ravings about how big it is, how you can find such great deals, and so on. I still wasn't quite prepared for how much stuff was there. Never have I seen so much fiber in one place. And I know we didn't see all of it--we were only there about 6 hours, and never went to the same place twice, but still there were things that we missed. Managed to stay under budget, though, and all my purchases fit into one bag. I think that had more to do with feeling completely overwhelmed by so much stuff--as well as the fact I had splurged at my last two guild meetings and decided I would only purchase specific items, not just everything I liked that I saw. I'm sure next year will be...er...different. My husband (who never wants to spin or knit or go to these fiber festivals himself, but is wonderfully supportive of my doing so) has already said numerous times to plan on a full two days of it next year. Gotta love him.

Since I've been knitting and spinning more lately (I think I'm nesting), I've had more things to post in those areas. There should be some more things going up in jewelry soon too, as long as I remember to take pics before trying to sell them. I have a bazaar to go to this weekend, so I'm hoping to eliminate most of my stock and be able to buy more materials for more pieces. Though I don't have much time left before the baby and it's easier to knit around the kids than do chainmaille.... I'll probably put most of what's left up on my Etsy page (accessible through a link on my web page, if you wanna check it out).

It's spring! Or ... not. Wait, yes, it is--errr, not--arrghhh! Talk about weird weather for the season here. Winter didn't really come until about January, then it got REALLY cold for a while, then warmed up a bit, then got even COLDER (about 4 degrees F last night) and today I went outside with just my sweatshirt and I was warm enough. So with all melting and freezing, almost our entire yard is ice. Loads of fun to take the dog outside on the leash--if you don't have a dog, a fifty to sixty pound animal has a lot more pull than you'd think for the size, and he has claws. Claws means he has traction. Me, not so much. Like none. At all. Zip. Maybe I should put my skates on instead of my boots to take him out.

But work has slowed down (another weekend without overtime!), and I have been getting projects done. Of course, then I add new projects faster than I finish things, so I'm not really getting ahead. *sigh* Posts hopefully will come soon. But I recently bought a bunch of new fiber to spin (including silk, ecofiber (made from recycled soda bottles!), and some linen), so I'm even more busy. And now I am in the process of shopping for a spinning wheel (hooray!). But first, finish knitting baby gifts for my friend's new baby. If only I didn't have to have that pesky 40 hour/week job....

Well, since it is a new year, I decided to get on the ball and put up some more updates of some recent stuff.

I've decided I'm going to finish more projects this year (note: not try to finish more projects; I will finish more projects. Really.). Not exactly a New Year's resolution, as I gave up on those years ago , but born of a sincere desire to have more stuff made, and to make something for myself. Most of the stuff I make I either sell or give away, so I don't usually have too much to show for all my hard work.

So, more jewelry soon, more knitted items from my yarn stash, and more spun yarn. Hopefully I'll have a finished story before long too, but since my writing is still in its infancy, I'll give that interest a bit more slack.

Now I can relax and finish it more leisurely, and still keep up with my other interests.

I recently finished spinning my green fleece, and will ply that in the near future. Probably when I get another spindle. My spinner's guild meets tomorrow, so I may have some of my Romeldale sheep's wool spun up into something I can post within a couple of days.

Hopefully there will also be more maille items in the near future.

EDIT: What I have learned in the last two weeks (12/15): Stories never really end, they just get longer and longer (that's why they do sequels); plying is harder than it looks, especially second time around when you think you've got it down; Shetland is much more fun to spin than Romeldale; my new 1-ounce spindle is an absolute dream. Especially with the shetland on it.

So, I hit 40K in my NaNoWriMo novel, and put up a rough excerpt, so I kinda took it easy yesterday. I figured that with 10K to go and half the month to do it in, I could focus on my web site for a while. So, that sorta worked, but now I'm having a writing slump--tried to write more tonight, but couldn't feel the characters or the scenes at all. I'll blame it on my not feeling well, I think. Then I won't feel so bad about it. ^_^

So, since I'm not slaving on my story, I figured I could do some of the updates to this site I've been meaning to do for a couple weeks now. So ... here they are! More spinning, my first knitted item with thumbs, and more jewelry.

Ok, so I thought I'd give NaNoWriMo a try--I wasn't expecting much, since 50,000 words in 30 days is a lot, but since I had a story kind of floating in my head, I thought maybe I'd be able to throw a few words together every so often, and if I was really lucky I might hit the 50,000 words by the end.

Ha.

My story has taken over my life. What was supposed to be a short story (one chapter) has since become my NaNo novel. Eight days into it and I have almost 25,000 written. I had no idea writing fantasy could be so much fun.

So the short of it is that I have neglected my updates longer than intended, and it'll be another few days before I can get any new pics up (but they will come, I promise!).

Must ... write ... more....

Well, I'm trying to update the site with new pictures fairly regularly, but insanity abounds here, and I haven't been able to update as much as I'd hoped. Between a very close and far too young family member's death, the funeral, my two-year-old getting very sick right after, then my getting sick, and still trying to get to work everyday, you'd think I'd have enough. Nope. Had to try my hand at NaNoWriMo
too, even though I haven't tried writing since my last college writing class (and that was several years ago).

Anyway, keep checking back for more pictures--I am planning on updating my spinning pictures soon (hopefully this weekend), with more jewelry updates following soon after. And I'll be posting some knitting pictures soon, especially the fingerless mittens I made for my son--my first time knitting thumbs! Hooray! And they actually fit him, to boot!
