The photo school (Freie Fotoschule Stuttgart) that I attend at the moment, was one of the participants and we got to exhibit some of our works on the walls and some in portfolios.

The whole affair was a huge success and the room was full for nearly all the night (7pm-2am).

At least 2 of my fellow students seem to have attracted enough attention that our teacher was asked for contact information - and who knows maybe someone wrote down mine too. It would be fun if this exhibition leads to some sale(s) or commission(s).
But even if not, I had my fun with the exhibition, from assembly 3 days ago to closing time last night.

I've long wanted to write a new and positive Journal for the start of the year, but always I've come up empty with something to write...

Now I must break with the plan of a positive journal and go to "angry mode". I've come across an article from the British National Union of Journalists (NUJ), that makes me foam at my mouth with anger.

It seems that yesterday a law came into effect in the UK that makes photographing a police officer an "act of terrorism"...

And already before that law came into effect there have been cases where photographers were stopped from their work by officers citing anti-terrorism law, e.g. here: [link]

I hope you photographers in the UK manage to instill some sense of reality and sanity in your police and the politicians who write such BS laws.

More and more flowers, bushes and trees begin to bloom or start to show fresh, green leaves. The farmers are busy at work in the fields and forests in preparation for the real start of spring. The first birds have already returned from their winter quarters (storks and starlings for example) and fill the air with their song and one simply gets a sense of life waking up with the increased activity of the birds and also the new born sheep that can be seen on the pastures.

Had a nice time with my family hiking a bit in the Kaiserstuhl. I hope you all had a nice weekend yourself.

Today the weather already started to change again, though it was still better than the weather report predicted - no rain so far though I guess that will come soon enough.

In a way that shows the problem with much of the so called "Modern Art" - it gets so random that with some good marketing everything can be considered art, even thoughtless scrawls and formless blobs.

What do you think of this case? And maybe modern art in general? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Besides the usual stress "real life" can bring there was the fact that my grandmother's health started to deteriorate rather quickly and together with my parents I was busy with caring for her. Sadly it didn't get better, in fact it took a real nose dive, and on Easter sunday she passed away, in the end I think it was a release for her.

She had a full life of nearly 97 years and except for the end she was practically always healthy. I'm going to miss her, her keen mind and curiosity.

Last tuesday she was laid to rest in the circle of our family, may she rest in peace.

Now to something of a lighter note - the weather in the last 2 weeks has been brilliant with lots of sun. On a couple of days temperatures reached nearly 30°C (that should be around 80°F), in a way summer was here early... now it has reached a more fitting temperature level with around 21°C - but the weather is still dominated by clear blue skies. In fact it slowly starts to become too much good weather as it hasn't rained here in weeks.

Anyway, I used what little free time I had (provided that my muse hit me then) to go out and take some photos - so you can look forward to some new photos from me. A couple are a bit more experimental/conceptual than usual for me as I try to grow in what I can do.

In other news, I got me some added gear for my camera but so far I haven't been able to put it to real use.
A Lensbaby 2.0 (with macro lenses) found its way to me as well as a very nice flash - the Sigma EF-500 DG Super. Both wait to be thoroughly tested and used

In fact, if the weather is agreeable I may be able to do that today.

3. filled with or showing gloom; sad, dejected, or melancholy.
4. hopeless or despairing; pessimistic: a gloomy view of the future.

Or, simply put: Your task is to incorporate gloominess to a nature photo.

Posting troubles - yesterday I submitted a couple (7) of photos but only one of them shows up in my gallery for those of you who happen to visit my gallery and not watching me. Searching for the keywords doesn't show them either. It is one big mess.

So I finally got to test my new lens, and from what I saw on the little monitor of my camera the results should be very good - better than with the normal kit lens (well that and now I have a really big zoom with 18-200 as opposed to 18-55 before). I'm eager to see the gargoyle shots in big, but it is late and I won't transfer them now and catch some sleep instead.
