I had my final cervical cancer vaccination the other day...and it stung like nothing else #_# the nurse must've hit the nerve, coz I left the surgey with a burning elbow and fingers. But yay, I'm vaccinated now

This week's gonna be so busy and expensive (I'll need to watch myself)! I'm going to see Avenue q on Thurs, I can't wait!

Artwise, I'm still working on velvette stuff. The CD cover is almost finished, and I'm just waiting on info for the booklet.

I'm so nerdy I've been reading one of my biological anthropology texts - but I've missed the subject soooooo much! It's been almost a year since I graduated from uni, and I've been thinking about what my next step will be (the purpose of this year was to take a break from intense work). I might go back and do a graduate diploma to further my qualifications, but I'll need to save up the money to study first.

When I was little...I was into animals, both cartoon and realistic. I started anime-style drawing about 9 years ago.

Definitely females, coz they're nice and curvy.

Either...but short hair is quicker

Either.

Frontal is easier than from the side.

◆What do you have problems in drawing?
Architecture! Inanimate objects such as furniture, vehicles etc. Anything 'geometric' tends to be difficult for me.

◆What do you like to draw?
I like drawing females, animals, cute things, fantasy and sci-fi. Painting skies is fun too.

◆Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
Both...I'm more experienced with traditional media than digital...Pencils and inks are my strength, and I'm only half-familiar with photoshop 7, LOL (all you people using CS4, you're so lucky!)

◆Where do you start drawing from?
The head or face.

I put love hearts in everything and I like drawing curves.

◆Any tips for coloring/shading?
Try to look at things as a whole rather than individual parts...by roughly assigning colour, light and shade. I've found saving details to last is best.

◆How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
A lonnnng time. I don't always get around to finishing things. It's usually because I'm out socialising or at work, or tired from both lol.

◆What music do you listen to while you draw?
Everything, but it depends on what kind of drawing I'm after. I use music mainly to help me chill or set a mood.

◆How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
I'm so busy I don't always have drawing ideas on my mind! So it usually requires a bit of thought.

Pencils, fineliners (currently using copic), copic markers and my sketchbook.

Anyways, about SMASH!

The event was good, although having the artist circle in a room meant we didn't get as much traffic flow as last year. I loved all the art on display ~ and we sold a few things. As an event it was HEAPS of fun and well organised, with access to food being the only problem (I ended up buying those fundraising chocolate bars to get me through the day lol XD)! I was stuck at the table all Saturday taking commissions so I didn't get a chance to see any of the events except cruising round the art stalls. I ended up getting a little tsukasa phone charm off Nekochii and this cute little fluffy cloud charm from Kawaii Fortune ^^ At the anime stalls I bought a Konata figurine and a trinket box with Jiji from Kiki's Delivery service on it ^^

Edit: In my haste I forgot to mention these awesome guys me and liam were sitting next to: and . Be sure to check out their galleries, they're very talented!

Personally, I believe it would have been better for prices in the artist circle to have been higher...with everything being so cheap, it was hard to sell high quality prints without going below cost. I've noticed over the years as the number of participating artists grows, competition has increased...but its become anti-competitive with artists putting in so much effort only to be underselling their talents! There should be a standard on the amount of time and effort you put in across all artists, but I doubt people will understand and take this on board for the benefit of everyone.

Anyway, we left SMASH! on Sat afternoon...once we FINALLY got back to the Hotel (which was lux as) me and liam went out for a romantic dinner at Darling Harbour The food was soooooooo nice! We then spent the rest of the evening at Star City - best casino ever! We had what I would call 'responsible' fun and didn't overdo it on roulette XD

We checked out of the hotel on Sunday morning, hoping for a sunny Sydney day, but it was just overcast and freezing. Man, it felt like we hadn't left Canberra at all! And being the sunshine loving girl I am, I didn't have a jacket to wear, so I was freezing! So we spent the rest of the day in the QVB and other shopping malls, avoiding the cold. We saw some nice things, with liam getting bargain Hoodies and myself getting a bargain cashmere/silk/wool long-line cardigan to keep me warm. Yay!

So that ends our little holiday ^^ can't wait for the next one!

Ah I'm so tired...last night I saw Wayne Brady's 'Making sh!t up' show. He's such a funny guy...but I loved his singing and rapping more than anything else.

Even though it was two weeks ago, my birthday was awesome! Thankyou to everyone for wishing me a happy birthday and for giving me gifts~

I can't believe I got so many nice things!! I got artbooks, a wall clock shaped like a cat, a brooch, bracelet, flowers, new pyjamas (yaaaay!), and valkyria chronicles for PS3.

BUT LETS TALK ABOUT STAR TREK.

OMG.

This is the greatest science fiction movie I've seen in a LONG time. I loved it so much that I'm probably gonna see it again. The visuals were beautiful, and the characters were so engaging. Plus there were quite a few shocking surprises.

Next up on my list of must-see films is Angels & Demons.

About Malawai

Malawai stands for 'cute mala'. It contains the words 'mala' and a contraction of the japanese word 'kawaii', meaning cute. It also represents my Australian heritage.

The Mala, or rufous-hare wallaby, is a small wallaby who once roamed the central deserts of Australia. They are my favourite wallaby, and I travelled all the way to Central Australia to see one face to face in 2007. Unfortunately the mala is extinct in the wild and can only be observed in captivity. It's population has diminished since the introduction of foxes and feral cats to Australia, alongside altered traditional fire burning practices.

Do you take commissions?

Valkyria Chronicles has been made into an anime series! It's based off a game by the same name for PS3. I love my PS3 It totally kicks the 360. Speaking of games, I miss playing Neverwinter Nights 2.

Artwise, I'm still working on some secret commissions. If successful they could take me someplace big! Still, it'd be nice to do some drawings for myself and for the possibility of attending SMASH! Sydney this year. I'll see how it all goes...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 2008 was an incredible year. I experienced and achieved so much. Now that I've graduated, I can sense big changes are in store. So here's my list of resolutions for 2009:

- Getting my driver's license. I've always said I would wait until I finished uni before I started learning to drive again, so this is the time. And hopefully, I'll have a car of my own by the end of this year.

- Keeping fit and living a healthier lifestyle than I do now. I've already taken up swimming again and it's doing wonders ^^

- More drawing and practicing. No more commissions, I'd like to spend time drawing what I love and trying different things for now.

- Take up a new activity. I want to learn something new and have fun doing it.

- More gaming and reading I've missed these two for so long.

OMG! I'M ELIGIBLE TO GRADUATE!

I'LL BE GRADUATING THIS FRIDAY!!!

I'm so excited!! My grades were even better than I had expected (two distinctions and a pass)! So here ends my 5 year journey at ANU.

Today was such a beautiful day. After collecting my ceremony tickets, I wandered around campus soaking in the atmosphere. I never really noticed it while I was busy rushing to and from classes; confining myself to the library etc, but ANU really is a beautiful place. I even saw one of my old lecturers walk past who inspired me to strive hard and never give up.

I've got a small celebration planned, but I suspect my family will be putting on a celebration for me and my brother (who's also graduating). This weekend I'll be in Bathurst for another Christmas party XD lol ! which should be fun. But man, I've got a busy week ahead of me!

Had my final exam yesterday, so I'm now officially on holidays~ and I haven't felt this good in ages!

So much has happened since I went overseas. I had the most awesome time in New Zealand, but there's so much for me to say it'll have to wait for another journal entry.

I've been conditionally approved to graduate in December, provided I pass all my classes. I'm still a little nervous about it, but I'll just have to wait for my grades to come out on December 1.

I got a new job as well! So I quit game...and now I work for David Lawrence in DJ's. The atmosphere's great, and I'm working full-time which is a bonus. So after 3 long months I've finally got enough money to get by. And I get to work in fashion ^^

That being said, I'll be able to send every single commission out this monday (sorry to keep you guys waiting, but I finally got some spare cash).

I'm back! ~ First off, I'd like to say a HUGE thankyou to everyone who visited the stall and purchased something =3 It was lovely to meet you all! Smash! was a great success, and I'll definitely be back next year!

Smash! was bigger than I expected. The atmosphere was great, and there were so many awesome artists and cosplayers ^^ The venue wasn't bad either, and I think the artist circle worked really well ^^

After Smash! me and liam went out to celebrate. We had dinner on the waterfront of Circular Quay - the bridge looks amazing at night *_* then we went to check out the basement bar for some blues & jazz but the main act wasn't going to perform til' late so we took the monorail to Harbourside (Darling Harbour) and chilled out at this huge bowling lounge and bar place before heading home. I still can't get over how huge Sydney is! It constantly blows my mind!!

Saw Dark Knight last week and it was FREAKIN AWESOME!!!

Well, it looks like I won't be going to Animania this year. Why? Well, I had to decide between forking out the money for a table or going to New Zealand for the holidays...and well, it was a pretty obvious choice XD I think I'll be needing a break by then anyways, since holidays don't begin until the end of week 10 (followed by an incredibly short 3-week fourth term o_O). I'm so excited!! ^^

What's keeping me busy:

- SMASH! one week to go (hoping to finish some drawings)
- uni (got 3 awesome classes to attend but heaps of homework)
- work
- exercise (ok now this is something I haven't been doing often enough, so I've officially stopped hibernating, like RIGHT NOW)
- games (mario kart, patapon, dawn of war, universe at war...and others when I get the time)
- hi-five sexy time! aka partying all night long aka lisa's free-time

Sorry I haven't been around deviantart lately, I do appreciate your comments and feedback. Once my degree's over I'll be online more often, but in the mean time, I'm trying to avoid spending huge amounts of time procrastinating online.

Anyways, spent the long weekend down at the coast with my boyfriend for the jazz festival ^_^ It was so much fun and I got to see all of his gig's as well as a couple extra! We also did mini-golf at the arcade! XD And I got a hole-in-one whooooo~!

So now I'm back at home studying hard for my exams which start this saturday x_x while trying to get my last assignments and commissions done. Aaaaaaaaaah.

It's the time of the year again...exams coming up and final assignments due. Been trying my best to keep up with it all, but being tired all the time makes things difficult just gotta work harder I guess (and resist the temptation to sleep in on these cold autumn mornings!)

The weather's finally begun to feel truly 'autumn'. It's been so unusually warm up until now, hey it was even warm on my birthday! Which is really saying something, coz it's usually cold and raining XD I had the BEST birthday though~ thanks to everyone for wishing me a happy birthday ^^

In other news, I'll be attending SMASH! this August as an individual artist. Therefore, I'm no longer taking commissions so I can prepare.

Happy easter everyone!

I just got back from Uluru (Ayers Rock) for a short holiday ^^ I had the best time EVER, it was so nice to take a short break from uni going off on another aussie adventure~ I love central Australia so much

I did a few familiar and unfamiliar things this time round...I saw the sunrise and sunset at Uluru with Kata Tjuta in the distance, which was spectacular! We also did all the walks at Uluru, including the base walk around the formation. The climb was closed both days, so we didn't do that. At Kata Tjuta I did the Valley of the Winds walk, which although precarious in some places, provided spectacular views worth scrambling up the domes for The weather wasn't very warm, and it even rained while I was at Uluru - but the benefit of trudging through the rain was that I got to see waterfalls running down the sides of the rock - it was amazing! The other highlight of my trip would have to have been the camel ride over the sand dunes, where I was rewarded with the most beautiful sunset over Kata Tjuta imaginable

I also returned to Kings Canyon to do the rim walk again XD I love that walk so much, especially the 500 step climb right at the beginning

So that was my easter weekend~ and now it's time for me to start studying hard for my upcoming exam and 3 major assignments which are due in a couple of weeks (not to mention sending out my completed commissions). With that said, I won't be online much and I'd like to apologise in advance - but I will be back with some drawings and plenty of photos!

I got my luggage back! It arrived just the other day...but ahahaha never again am I letting Qantas tell me my bags have been transferred without actually SEEING them do it.

Awww life's been hard lately. First came the luggage incident, and last night I came home from uni to discover my entire profile on my old computer is gone! I bought a new imac a month ago (which I love very much ^^) but I never got the opportunity to transfer mine and my parent's photos and videos to this one....so they're ALL gone. Everything from my holidays these past 4 years....GONE. Just like that. It's a long shot but hopefully they're still lurking on there somewhere, but I seriously doubt it, since Windows decided to reinstall itself for no apparent reason ;_;

And well hmmm....my entomology project has been driving me up the wall! I have to collect 30 species of insect from 10 different orders...and well, as much as I hate having to catch them all for science, I can't stand having to needlessly catch more because my specimen jars get mishandled and my grasshopper's legs fall off for example.

One good thing has come out of it though, I found this huge fat caterpillar, put him in a jar and watched him spin a coccoon X3 It was amazing o_o ! I can't wait to see what he turns into ^^

I've got good news and bad news...

I've just come back from Tasmania and AI-CON where I had sold some prints/commissions and conducted short art classes. I had such an awesome time! The atmosphere was warm and friendly, and the con itself was just great, I can't wait to return next year!

I also managed to squeeze in enough time to visit the Salamanca markets where I got this cute little glass penguin and some unique tasmanian fossils, and also checked out the Mt Wellington lookout which had breathtaking views (and being so high up and exposed to antartic winds it was absolutely freezing up there!!).

The bad news, however, is that me and my parents' luggage is currently lost somewhere at Melbourne airport, and not only do they contain important things like all our clothes and mobile/ipod chargers etc, but mine also contains all of my prints, artwork, incomplete commissions, souvenirs AND materials including $400 worth of COPIC markers ;___; along with one of my uni textbooks. Thank god I had my medication in my handbag, otherwise I would've been screwed (since its a public holiday today) but what really upsets me is the fact I may never see my drawings again. QANTAS wasn't able to tell us when/if they'll find it, all they were able to say is that it's lost in Melbourne somewhere. The baggage handlers failed to transfer everything to our 'new' connecting flight after our original one was cancelled...even though they gave the pilot documentation saying they transferred everything! It was bad enough that our flight was cancelled and we were told we had to go on a new flight which was for IMMEDIATE departure as soon as we arrived in Melbourne *sigh*

I'm going to wait a few days...if it doesn't show up I guess I'll have to do everyone's commissions from scratch again x__x

So to everyone who's commissioned me, I'm really sorry about this! Let's hope QANTAS gets my luggage back TODAY.

And finally, uni's been great! Although I've been extremely busy since it started, it's been fun and rewarding, and that's what counts. I guess it comes as no surprise that I won't be on DA as much for a while XD but I do have some artwork on the way ^^

It's been a while! I've been up to a lot since Christmas. I had a wonderful New Year's, spent a week up in Sydney and had a short stay in the Snowy's to check out Yarragobilly Caves (beautiful limestone caves not far from my hometown =3 they even have an outdoor thermal pool!). The bushwalks there were awesome too. I also started a new job selling games X3 it's the best~

The weather in Sydney was great (for once ). The biggest highlight for me was seeing Brian Wilson perform live in concert (singer/songwriter for the Beach Boys). He performed all his hits as well as his latest work in the State Theatre alongside an orchestra and jazz band It was so awesome! He's a musical genius ^^

I also went to the Australian Musuem to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards and Face to Face exhibition (a very powerful and touching exhibit)...the awards exhibition have become an annual must-do for me =3

I also went shopping and dining out hehe. Took the rivercat ferry to Circular Quay and had a lovely walk through the Botanical Gardens to the Art Gallery to see the chinese painting exhibition.

Finally, I'm going back to uni at the end of this month so I'll be closing commissions very soon (probably the end of this week), but I'll talk more about that later.

At the moment I'm offering anime/manga styled artwork and character design of chibis, portrait or full figured characters. All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD).

RULES:

- Please read this journal entry carefully before sending me your request.
- no fanart, original characters only (themes are ok).
- no sexually explicit scenes or violence

- There is *no* character limit as long as I can fit them in (but must conform to either chibi, portrait or full-body size).
- I reserve the right to showcase the work in my own personal portfolio
- Commissions are for personal, non-commercial use only. I still retain the copyright to the image.

PRICES: (guide only, if you have something else in mind please let me know)

1. Lineart (A4 SIZE):

Chibi: $10 uncoloured; $20 coloured
Portrait: $10 uncoloured; $20 coloured
Full-body: $20 uncoloured; $30 coloured

All lineart done using range of fine liners (standard pen I use is 0.05) and brush pen. Digital colouring using photoshop 7.0.

POSTCARD SIZE (1/2 A4):

- 1/2 price of the above.

2. Background:

Simplistic backgrounds are free. Complex backgrounds (ie: a setting) is an extra $10 for A4, $5 for postcard size.


WHAT YOU GET:

- Your very own piece of original, high-quality, one-of-kind artwork by malawai! I will not sell copies of your commission as a print
- An unsized, digital copy of the image for you to keep (in .TIF format)

Saturday (day 1) was crazy! I was late and couldn't get into Town Hall...so I snuck in from the back and eventually made my way to the right area.

I shared half a table with Higashi no Sora (awesome, awesome people)! Our table was facing the main stage so I got to see most of the events including cosplay and dance kool (they were soooooo awesome). The artist's area itself got a lot of traffic too, which was nice.

Behind us were the lovely Jen and Kit of nekochii! [link] Two awesome guys with super cute accessories and cosplay cat ears! VISIT THEIR WEBSITE!!! Naturally I bought myself a pair (pink with white insides). Also got some little charms that're hanging off my backpack.

Next table down was the ever enthusiastic *kaiaken selling a range of prints and badges and stuff! ^^

Besides selling prints I also did on the spot pencil & ink chibi commissions ^^ I ended up with 23 over the entire weekend. Wow

Sunday was much more relaxed than the Saturday, but I got more commissions that day, so when I wasn't chatting and giving advice I was drawing away like crazy. At times it was overwhelming and I'd just space out hehe. But it was all in good fun.

Also met *caleyndar on the weekend and did 2 commissions for her - oh they were sooooooo much fun to draw! Your artwork is amazing!

What else? I spent the remainder of my money on a huuuuge eva artbook yaaaay

All in all it was a great experience - I met some great people and learnt a lot. And that's about it!

Looking forward to animania 2008 (and this week's pay lol)!

And it was great!

The weather was perfect! I'm missing it already!

I got to spend an entire day up in the Daintree and on the Great Barrier Reef! The Daintree is so beautiful...especially Mossman Gorge I love that place! We also went crocodile spotting up along the river and saw plenty of other wildlife including a lace monitor, a million scrub turkeys and even a cassowary o_o

The reef was awesome too! I got to see it up in the air on helicopter, as well as underwater in semi-submersible, under water observatory and snorkelling. The sheer size of the reef from above and the amount of life underwater's amazing!

Back in Cairns, we took the scenic railway up to Kuranda, a small village in the mountains, where we did a little shopping before heading back down via the gondolas. We also went to the aboriginal cultural park for a unique performance and dinner ^^

And that concludes my trip! I'll post some photos soon.

I'm on holidays now, and my uni results were better than I expected ^^

That afternoon I went on my first tour; a champagne BBQ dinner at Rainbow Valley. The scenery at Rainbow Valley is absolutely stunning, consisting of a series of sandstone cliffs with rainbow-like rock bands, and claypans which quickly fill with water after heavy rain (forming a lake in front of the valley). The colours of the rock change during sunrise and sunset. Its one of the most beautiful (yet least known to tourists) sites of the red centre Due to the weather being overcast, I didn't get to see the full effect of the colour change at sunset, but I did see a little change along the peaks and that was magical.

The following day I went on a 2 day tour to Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuta (Olgas) and Uluru (Ayers Rock). Travelling along the highway felt like being on a pilgrimage - both Kings Canyon and Uluru/Kata Tjuta National Park are a day's journey from Alice Springs. Travelling via Mt Ebenezer, we arrived at Kings Canyon around lunchtime. It was HOT that day, with temperature's in the high 30's. Thankfully a light shower cooled the place down, making it possible to do the canyon rim walk. If the temperature is above 36'C the walk is cancelled, because of the dangers involved.

Let me tell you, the rim walk is tough, but well worth it. We walked for approx. 3 hours, and it was my favourite walk, full of hidden treasures, plenty of cycads and mysterious rock formations. The Amphitheatre, or "Lost City" feels like a world of ancient ruins. Unfortunately, I didn't get to do the connected walk down the canyon into the Garden of Eden because the group was slowed down, and didn't bring enough water. Basically, some came ill prepared, causing the rest of the group to miss out, so you can imagine how annoyed I was having others prevent me from seeing it. The guide hailed me 'Canyon Champion' at the end though I was the fittest one there! I didn't get dehydrated or sunburnt, and at the final stretch I still had half a bottle of water left. It was fantastic knowing I'd conquered the walk.

That evening was spent at Mt. Ebenezer roadhouse; an outback pub! Had some great times there! The guide was happy to look through my photos and help me identify the dragons and skinks I'd come across so far.

The next day we left the roadhouse and headed into Uluru/Kata Tjuta National Park. After a quick stopover at Yulara, we took the Valley of the Winds walk at Kata Tjuta, then travelled to Uluru for the Mala walk and Kuniya walk observing the various caves and waterholes. Climbing wasn't an option because of the weather We also drove around the base of Uluru, listening to both the scientific and indigenous interpretations of the rock. It was an amazing, transformative experience. The day ended with another champagne BBQ at sunset. The weather was overcast again though, so the rock didn't change colour at all. After sunset, we headed back to Alice Springs arriving approx. 1am.

Sunday! My day 'off'! I had organised a transfer to the Alice Springs Desert park, and was supposed to arrive in the morning, but didn't arrive until the afternoon because I woke up feeling really ill ~_~ (and I'm still recovering). I also had this bizarre rash spreading all over my arms (more about that later). For the next two days I lived off toast, jam sandwiches, fish, rice and watered down gatorade x_x basic foods really. I'm so glad I made the trip into the Desert Park though, because although I felt really weak and nauseous, I got to see the habitats of central australia as well as its inhabitants. PLUS I SAW MALAS IN THE NOCTURNAL HOUSE~ They're so cute!

I was also grateful for the receptionist at the hotel who gave me a lift to the chemist, which was open, thank god. Business is slow during summer, so shops are closed on Sundays.

The next day I was feeling slightly better, so I went on the tour to the West Macdonnels. I still felt 'weak' and my arms were burning non-stop, but I soldiered on. We stopped at Simpsons Gap for black-footed rock wallaby spotting, but didn't see any. Next stop was Standley Chasm, the walk to the chasm was calming~ and left you with that isolated feeling. Soon after I left Alice on wednesday morning, the Todd river began to flow. It'd been raining overnight/throughout the day for two days straight, so it was expected, but I never expected it to be flowing this fast!

My hotel was on the other side of the closed road o_o its a good thing I went home when I did and not a day later! Otherwise I would've had to cart my luggage across the footbridge! And any tours would've been cancelled due to flooding and inaccessibility (which is what happened to some of the Uluru tour groups the day I left)

When I left on wednesday morning the river was pretty dry, with only a few pools of water here and there. ]]> *malawai
