That's where we split the team in half and do a bunch of mini-events. Turns out I'm the fourth best standing long-jumper on the team. And I can high-step 4ft 8in. Shweet.
Me, David and Mike made hobo signs out of a box we found behind a restaraunt downtown. They said "Civil War Veteran, need help" "Parents are tightwads, please help" "Need a ride to Uranus, Please help an alien out" and "Too young for booze. Please donate." We went on sat on the bench with the statue of the guy with the birds and held our signs up to the cars. We made $1.02. We almost broke even for the $1.50 Sharpie...
First track meet on tuesday at home. I'm running the 100m 200m 4x100m and throwing discus.
I've got a couple drawings I'll probably post some time this weekend. Get excited.
Alot of the girs on the track team are total babes. Just sayin.

I know that's pathetic, but it's such ahuge step forward in the recognition of sequential art as a valid storytelling medium.
I'm going to see Watchmen at 7pm tomorrow. I'm sooo psyched. Some of my friends saw it last night, and they said it was awesome.

Track has been amazing so far. The team is so much fun.
Funny story from wednesday. Me and David dropped Mike off at his house after school because we had to wait until 3 for practice. We drove off and circled back and parked behind two trash cans because we were gonna screw with him when he came out of his house. This 60-ish old lady was walking her tiny dog up the sidewalk. She sees our car and is staring at us as she walks up. She looked like she thought we were... I don't know what. When she's almost to the car, David turns it on and guns it. The old lady's eyes get huge and she freaks out. We wait a few minutes and circle back and drive by really slowly. She freaks out again. We circled back a couple more times after that and went to practice. It was hilarious. We forgot to go back for Mike.

I hope to be able to go watch in London in 2012. Or in Chicago if it gets picked for 2016.

Worst part about it was there was this really hot girl that came in halfway through it and was in the chair nearest me, and the dentist does one of those torture techniques that they're so good at, and pulls my right cheek half way around my head. The girl looks over at me, chuckles, and looks away. I was just thinkin', "Yeah, you know that was hot..."
Dentists suck.

I still need some help posting a word document on here (see last journal) so whoever wants to help gets a virtual hug.

I gotta new metallic Sharpie from Target. It's spiffy. I still need a grey one though. That's like the only color I don't have. And not having it proves problematic when I need to color stuff that's y'know, grey. Or is that "gray"? I've never figured that out.
I have the begginings of a semi-entertaining story that I want to post on here. But I don't know how to post word-y stuff on dA. Do you just post the word document like you would a pic? If someone could help me out with this that'd be greeeeaaat...

I'm gonna be with the MVHS XC team, helping with the Spark Your Heart 5K on friday, if you happen to be there look for me.
Unless you have a flawless and encyclopedic knowledge of all DC Comics continuity for the past 30 years, do not bother trying to read DC's 2007 event, Infinite Crisis. I tried over the weekend and was dumbfounded. And I'm me. Ye hath been warned.
On a more positive note, I just finished Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's novel, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophesies of Agnes Nutter, Witch at approximately midnight last night. It was a fantastic book. It's hillarious and crazy and cool and you (especially Quin) should buy it now. It's a satire of the biblical armegeddon that reminds me of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books. It's goooood. I got it for like $7 at B&N.

"Secret Invasion: Who Do You Trust?" One-Shot from Marvel Comics.
Written by Brian Reed, Mike Carey, Christos Gage, Zeb Wells, and Jeff Parker
Art by Lee Weeks, Timothy Green III, Mike Perkins, Steve Kurth, and Leonard Kirk
This comic is a collection of five stories that flesh out various moments occuring in the main Secret Invasion series. They almost all added something to the overall story of the invasion.
The first story, starring Captain Marvel, and done by the same creative team as the Captain Marvel miniseries, chronicles the actions taken by Captain Marvel leading up to his appearance in Secret Invasion #1. This story helps tremendously, as I, not having read the Captain's series, didn't understand exactly why the Thunderbolts were targeted by Mar-Vell. Lee Weeks provides 8 pages of gorgeous art, and Brian Reed provides a surprisingly emotional script for so short of a story.
The second story has Agent Brand of S.W.O.R.D. getting some alone time after being stranded in space in SI#1. Most of the story was flashback, with Brand examining her previous experiences with Skrulls and realizing that they had all but told her that the invasion was going on. The art was top-notch again, though I didn't think that it was quite right for this kind of story.
My favorite story of the book was the third story, which features Beast and Wonderman. The pair of former Avengers teammates and best friends finds themselves inside a tunnel built by a Savage Land trap door spider (i.e. BIG trap door spider) right after the T-rex attack in SI#2. Christos Gage masterfully uses the best aspect of the invasion, the paranoia, to provide some great character examination of the modern MU's Beast, and some genuinely funny dialogue. The ending will leave any Beast fans praying that this Beast is the real deal. The story is packed with action and characterization, and proves once again that Gage is the most under-appreciated writer Marvel has right now. Marvel needs to give him a high profile ongoing RIGHT NOW, because, he's a comics superstar waiting to happen.
The next story, starring Marvel Boy, looked fantastic with Steve Kurth's pencils, but storywise I had no idea what was going on. The only other story I've read with Marvel Boy is the Civil War: Young Avengers/Runaways mini, and I liked him in that series much more. In this story, however, he comes across as very holier-than-thou, and as a jerk.
The final story, while it's doubtful it will have any effect on the overall story,featured the Agents of Atlas, and was very action-oriented, but also had some funny moments. The story is told from the point-of-view of a preserved Skrull head, and tells of the Agents' liberation of Portland, Orgeon. Though stylisticly different from the rest of the book, the art here was very good, and helped make this my second favorite of these stories.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone reading Secret Invasion right now.
Now for the movie.
The Incredible Hulk
First Iron Man, and now this? Wow, Marvel Studios. Color me impressed.
In it's own way, Incredible Hulk is just as good as Iron Man. The action is much better and much more abundant than Iron Man, and Edward Norton's performance, while not quite as good as Robert Downey Jr.'s, is top notch. The numerous chase scenes are very well done,and the fights with the military and with the Abomination are brilliantly choreographed. The climactic fight between Hulk and the Abomination was, in my opinion, the best suphero versus supervillain fight in any movie ever. The movie is filled with easter eggs, further thickening Marvel's "movie universe" that they started with Iron Man. There are numerous references to S.H.I.E.L.D., Stark Industries, and most numerously, Captain America. One of the most exciting things about the movie was when Emil Blonsky (portrayed spectacularly by Tim Roth) was injected with the super-soldier serum, and proceeded to take on the Hulk by himself. He moved lightning fast, and was dodging blows from the Hulk, while flipping off destroyed vehicles, and continuously shooting the Hulk with various weapons. If this is how Captain America is going to move in 2011's Captain America and Avengers movies, those moves are going to be incredible. This movie was extremely good, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The one downside to this movie is that we now have to wait until 2010 for the for the next Marvel Studios movies.
