A big thank you to ~1abbel for catching my 10,000th. He's studying to become an architectural designer and is a pretty sweet guy besides that - his comments are always thoughtful and heartfelt.

He's here both to share his own creations (he draws compulsively and happily). As he says, "Hidden, our art does not "exist". Only when art is expressed to the world and the world has received it, that can be useful."

As an artist, "this may sound incompatible, but I hope to look, see, learn and be more aware of the universe that I'm in and, by the other hand, I want to be more unique and myself in my creation."

He's also here in order to find all those truly talented artists to satisfy his appetite for art. In his own words, dA makes him happy

My holidays are slowly drawing to an end, to my great, great dismay. I've been doing a lot of sleeping, reading, and generally relaxing, but not much work...

Not so good.

For the next couple days, I'll be here very little, so don't be surprised if it takes me a while to answer comments, messages, notes, etc.! I'll be doing homework.

I've been here one year exactly - you can say thank you to *lucky-april, my lovely Laura, for bullying me to get back on in the first place! Although I'm grateful really, I sold my first photo through dA - so thank you sweetie, it's thanks to you really!

I honestly think I've progressed in my photography, and that's probably due in part to all the wonderful people I've met.

6,900 pageviews, 1,700 favorites, a photo with over 200 favorites that's soon to be a book cover ([link] ) and, most importantly, 130 watchers and friends... Thank you to each and every one of you.

I know I said that the next feature was Saturday, but I can't resist. So, I'm featuring all of you, my watchers - thank you for everything!

So here's the deal.

I'm avoiding homework in general, it's Saturday night, and tomorrow's Sunday.

On another note, I've had the most exhausting day. I wrote a letter to a dear friend in England, whom I have not really spoken to in two years because I was horrible and basically broke his heart. So, am attempting to apologize. I will post it tomorrow, and all my hope goes with it.

There really is something so wonderful about letter-writing. I wish we used "snail mail" more often. I'd write to people all the time. Emails can be so impersonal and callous, but a letter? Love and effort has gone into putting pen to paper.

We entertained one of my dad's colleagues' family this afternoon and evening as well. I may be able to express myself in the written form, but as I grow up I am becoming increasingly dismayed at how pathetic I am when it comes to small talk. I am absolutely incapable of randomly striking up an interesting conversation.

Oh, and I get my answers for my college applications in exactly one month. How frightfully jolly!

I'm going to stop rambling though, I realize that the thoughts of a tired 17 year-old are not the most interesting.

I'm on holiday.

My exams are over (until June at least!)

I have two weeks of steady procrastination in front of me.

And one of my photos is going to be published as a book cover.

I was contacted on Wednesday. It's for a small volume of four short stories. They'll be paying me 125euros for the right to use it, which is perfect. I'm being advised by my father and James, a musician who lives with us, as to copyright.

Sorry for tooting my own horn, I really can't help it, and needed to share with you guys!

UPDATE: the economics was easy - the impact of technical progress on economic growth. English written went by too slowly; why Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? can be described as a 'comedy of horror', to what extent Philip Larkin's poetry is excessively pessimistic, and a critical appreciation of the first sighting of the whale in Herman Melville's Moby Dick. Great fun!

Again, I apologize for not being here so much (although probably more than I should be, considering I should be revising!), and especially having not posted up any works since January 17th!
I'm on holiday on Saturday, so I'll get running again after 4 days of solid sleep.

On another note, I hit 5,000 pageviews a couple of days ago, so in less than one year on dA. Thank you.

In the meantime, I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind critique and support. All I ask is to be able to grow as an artist.

Which brings me to the next subject - critique.
I would suggest reading "A Compromise" by =cozmictwinkie - [link] .
It's a brightly colored comic, easy to read and empathize with, regarding commenting and faving. A must-read! All too often, we get caught up in numbers and popularity... This is after all, an art community, where, yes, there are favs and pageviews, but also the possibility of providing feedback, encouragement, and constructive criticism. And all too often, we forget that.
A huge amount has been done on this website in order to enhance the social experience of dA - this is one of the reasons behind its popularity. However, dA is fundamentally a company, whose revenue is insured by its popularity. If dA is to stop a transition into becoming MySpace, it is not dA that needs to change, but more importantly its members.

Food for thought.

I'm going to be very busy for the next month or so - my mocks are coming up, and ALL my professors have suddenly realized it. That means heaps of work. I'm going to try to continue to be as active as possible, but just a word of warning!

By the way, if you have not yet read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, do yourself a favor and read it NOW! I'm reading it for the second time round now. Great subject content, hard, but presented with such a whimsical and elegant style... You won't be disappointed.

Wow.

In less than 15 hours, my deviation "et le vieux piano" ( [link] ) has outstripped Leisure ( [link] ) in terms of favs.

I know that popularity doesn't matter, and the art itself is more important, (etc etc etc!) but favs are a very nice benchmark ^^

On another note, I find out today whether Yale has decided it wants me. The little "the admissions decision application is currently closed" message is starting to tick me off. Will edit this journal when I find out ^^

My school play went fabulously well, as did my MUN conference in Paris (debate was wonderful, met so many people). One week till school is over, then freedom! Thank goodness, I've been able to be a lot more active as a result, and hope to continue this way.

To ye whom shall read this,

Well I've been back to school for a while now. Can't say I've been enjoying it much, but at least the first trimester is over in two weeks or so. I'm definitely exhausted though.

Wheeeeeeeee it snowed today! Yes it did! Here in my little town close to Paris where it never snows! Alright, it didn't stick or anything, but frozen particles of water falling out of the sky is noteworthy enough for me (:

I'm getting the 50mm f/1.8 lens in about a week... I'm very very happy about that, I've been wanting to get another lens for some time, and something more suited to portraiture and such. I cannot wait to pop it onto my camera and become an ultra-shutterbug!

On another note, I'm one of the main characters in my school play - I don't have that much to say, but I'm definitely crucial to the plot. It's lovely, I get go crazy and moan in fear over pussy cats on stage - my cup is full! We go on stage in a week, and we are nowhere near ready. Makes you want to tear your hair out!

I have an essay on the Cuban Missile Crisis to write, as well as one on why in times of crisis we look back onto the past, as well as a dissertation in economics.

And now I'm going to stop droning on here, and drone on a Word document instead.

Just to say, no, I have not dropped off the face of the earth - I'm still alive and kicking and extremely busy.

I have a beautiful new baby - a Canon 450D - with lots of nice pictures on the memory card, but as of yet, I haven't been able to upload them to a pc, let alone go through them and decide which to post up here.

Ever since we got back from holiday this summer, my computer has been seriously f*cked up, crashing every other day. It even got a trojan, and it's latest fantasy has been putting the screen on the lowest possible resolution (without an option to switch back to a proper one) and 4 colors/black and white. It's been very frustrating, and we may have to buy a new computer.. Not a nice thought, considering we've already had to replace our refrigerator and dishwasher.

I've also had university applications to prepare, and just sent one off to apply Early Decision. So that's been sucking up my time. Obviously, since I'm doing uni applications, I'm in my final year of school, and in the French system that doesn't leave much free time sadly.

So yes, frustrating times. I miss those days when I could procrastinate.

Not much posting going on then, but that just means that I've spent a bit more time giving back, commenting and such. I've been discovering some incredible artwork.

Thank you so much for your support, it means the world to me, so I apologize for not being as active as I could be.
