I can't really remember when it was that my scanner first collapsed, but I do know that it took quite a while to get it fixed.

From what I recall it took the service folk enough time for the guarantee to expire to fix it. It lasted for a while before displaying the same problem again.

Yesterday I decided to open it up myself and see if I could at least recognize the problem. It wasn't really too hard. I pushed it around a bit and noticed that the belt loosens up when it's going back up. It displayed the same type of problem the first time around, only it would loosen while going down.

Then I disassembled the apparatus completely, took a frikkin paper clip and used it to tighten up the belt without damaging or halting the mechanism. One can imagine the reaction to that. I was shocked at the simplicity, pissed off at the audacity, and simply thrilled by the fact that I could scan stuff again.

This proves it, the Macgyver method works. Next time I'll build a landmine using a thread spool and a doggy bag.

On other unrelated notes:
Today was the 3rd friday 13th of this year; the first wave of the swine flew has passed; I used the word 'lucrative' for the first time; I turned 'cloning a mammoth' into a catchphrase; and the keyword of the day is balance.

[link]

[link]

------------------------
Journal CSS made by =caybeach
Texture by `Princess-of-Shadows
Vintage Music brushes by ~Scully7491

It was about two days ago that I noticed something rather uncommon at a bus stop.

[link]

[link]

[link]

That's right, it's the fabled masks of +1 infection prevention. Of course, some will think it's understandable that these are discarded, due to their very limited period of effectiveness; however...

However the main problem with this scene (which I didn't have enough time to capture on a photograph) is the fact that a trash disposal bin (the logical container for these objects) was a mere 2 meters and 60 centimeters (approximately) away from the scene.

Regardless of the fact that wearing these masks doesn't help much with protecting oneself, it still makes little to no sense to simply leave them unattended at a public bus stop. The fact that they were used makes them suspicious and potentially volatile, endangering the health of other daily commuters that pass by there. Now, I am very well aware of how selfish some people can be (though I've merely seen the tip of the iceberg), yet I still can't help but feel disturbed to see something like this during a global crisis. And I'm not talking about the economy crisis here.

Anyone can probably figure that taking two extra steps to dispose of these masks properly and ecologically isn't a sacrifice at all. One could even consider it the only logical, as well as possible, solution.

People will never cease to surprise me.

------------------------
Journal CSS made by =caybeach
Texture by `Princess-of-Shadows
Vintage Music brushes by ~Scully7491
