POSER - (Version - who cares) The RUNTIME

Poser is a pain in ass. If you don't believe me, I challenge anyone to use it. It takes time, has a huge learning curve, and takes patience. But if your a Saint with the patient of Gandhi, you might survive and make your first crappy image before you discover there is a LOT more to 3D images besides the point load PZ3 presents. You have a lot to learn.

After all these years of dealing with Poser, I have to say my headaches come from my runtime(s). Yes, I said Runtimes. It is plural. I think I have over 50 or more runtimes in my library. I might a few more. It really determines if I have bought any new crap from RDNA, Renderosity, or some other store. When I first started with Poser, I shoved everything under the main runtime. I had no idea what I was doing back then, and my original folders where huge because of it. I had a ton of free stuff which I could never had been able to give credit if I wanted to because I had no idea who made what. Heck, I didn't even know if I could use the product commercially if I wanted to, or what the license for the piece was.
It all became a matter of how to handle all that free stuff, and stuff you buy with REAL money. My solution was RUNTIMES. Here is an example of what I have. It is very anal, but I have to admit I can find something when I want. It also is making my dream of cataloging all the crap into a database a bit easier.
I have a folder called !Alpha on my second hard drive for all my free and purchased materials.
The !Alpha folder itself has subfolders from # to Z.
Withing the A folder, I have folder !A for the free stuff, and !A+ for the purchased stuff.
The !A folder has the Runtime for the free stuff. The individual categories like Character, Pose, Lights, Face, Hand, and Prop all have folders for the individual artists who have graciously given free materials.
This folder also has folders labeled Backgrounds,PDF,Photoshop,Morphs,PZ3, and 3ds,OBJ,LWO3. This helps to keep the odds and ends separated also.

The !A+ folder had a separate folder for all the artist I have bought time. There is a folder for Avery Soul, Andi3D, and anyone else I have purchased product from. It makes it nice to find if you have already bought something or not.

I do this for every folder from # to Z.

If you are wondering if Poser can handle all these Runtimes, I think it prefers it. To load one of these smaller runtimes takes a lot less time than the huge ones I was trying to load before. I still keep the DAZ files in the main folder since it default to the folder, but I can see these files also being sent to the perspective artist folders.

One the darkside, the process does not seem to work for Victoria 4 and Michael 4. I originally wanted to set up a folder with materials specifically for them. Because of the way DAZ works, you have to have the V4 files in the main directory for the updates to find and modify.
My actual Main file is separated into categories. Here is an example:
Character - by model A3, M3, M4, V4, Robot, Scene, Furniture, Props, Special Effects

I hate to say it. The more organized you are the more you will be able to find what you have. I personally have probably 300 Gig or more of models and stuff to work with. I still have tons of stuff that I have no idea what I have but I'm getting it cataloged.

There are a couple of good catalog programs out there. I was even going to try to make my own to share, but I found the ones available were much easier to deal with.
Here is the link for a really good one by Bob Coleman. Content Tracker 2.0. [link]
He also list a few others which are pretty good.

Hope this helps - Okay I know it will not really, but take up tons of your time.
Just remember to log what you download as you get it, it will help.
Mike

Okay I'm weird. Now that is established, I like to share some thoughts today about Halloween. I hate to say it, but I'm suffering from a bad case of "WHO CARES".

At one time, it was FUN. I guess now that I've gotten older it is not all that great. I love seeing the little kids in costume and handing out candy, but the entire party scene is just not all the appealing. I guess it really matters on who you are with, the environment you are in, and if the holiday says "HI".

I have to admit I was really annoying my partner as we were watching "Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin" the other night. I have seen it so many times since it came out. Okay, I think I've watched it every year it was made. It usually puts me in a Halloween mood. It sort of did this time a more sarcastic mood. I was contemplating Linus as he grew up with his obsession on the Great Pumpkin. Let's take a side trip here on the Great Pumpkin Twilight Zone express.

Linus grows up learning more about Halloween. He is a rather bright kid. I'd say a genius considering his ability to recite the Bible in "Charlie Brown's Christmas". Being tormented by his sister and the other kids about the Great Pumpkin, Linus figures out that it is a representation of Same Han. Doing a little research, he discovers old Druidic rituals to call the being. It takes years for Linus to discover the proper rituals, and finally he finds the one which will call the being to him and bring him great gifts.
After years of being tormented by his school mates, all but Charlie Brown, he enlists Charlie Brown in the rituals who knows the truth and seeks revenge against his school mates also. Unknown to Linus' school mates, the ritual requires blood sacrifice to call the being, and Linus is planning on a very bloody ritual to make sure his Great Pumpkin does not miss his Pumpkin field again.
As the guests arrive Linus serves them his special spiked punch, which makes everyone happy and very drunk. The punch is meant to disorient people, and create hallucinations.
One by one, Linus takes someone from the floor to the sacrificial alter and guts them chanting the rituals. One by one, the school mates are killed leaving Charlie Brown, Sally, and Charlie Brown staring at the carnage they have done. Driven insane by what he had done, Charlie Brown kills himself with the sacrificial dagger just as Same Han appears. The being admiring Linus' handy work bestows him and Sally with ancient wealth's of druidic times. This leaves Linus to say, "There is a Great Pumpkin!"
As the captions run, Snoopy and Woodstock are seen digging graves in the cornfield. Yes - Peanuts Children of the Corn.

Okay - told you I'm wierd.

Happy Great Pumpkin Day -

Mike

I was playing with some stuff in Poser and I realized that not everyone may know about some of the awesome and annoying features of the program. Actually, it isn't the program. It is the models you can get from Daz.

1. The material room - Learn it. It will save you tons of money on textures. It allows you to apply ANY texture to ANY item. You are basically re-texturing the bookcase, bowl, body, or whatever. It it incredibly easy to learn. Easist way to learn. I suggest look at items you load into the room. There are a ton of free textures out there. Usually the tiles are 256x256 for doing textures for clothing walls etc. You will not be able to sell the texture, but it will make your image different from everyone else who uses the same old mats for the most popular items.

2. The Dynamic Room - If you have Poser 5, I hate to say it FORGET IT. If you have Poser 6, 7, and even Pro, the room works very well for prop clothing. I personally think Poser 6 worked best and the screwed it up in the newer versions. I don't have Power 8 so I can't say anything. The room is simple.
1. Dress you figure in the Pose Area getting the dress to fit as good as possible
2. In the Dynamic Room, set up the clothing you want to be dynamic. Set the draping to about 30 to 50 frames, set the dynamic one to about the same. One simple suggestion - load your Poser on about the 15th or 20th frame. Just slide the bar to about 15, load your pose for the figure, and let her rip. The gown will flow better and be a bit more dynamic based of the pose.

3. Victoria 3, Michael 3, Girl 3, and any of the Millennium 3 figures
Folks - the textures are unimesh which means any texture that V3 can wear so can the Girl, Laura, Stephanie, or Aiko. Aiko is a bit different, since she has a thigh issue. It is just a matter of copying and pasting the texture information to that area in the material room. Very easy to do. So the idea of V3 wearing your favorite - MALE texture is a reality - or if you wanted a bearded lady with a penis.

4. Lights - Simple suggestion. A couple lights are good as a hundred. Some of the modelers feel we need 24 lights for their prop. It slows Poser down big time. Just change the lights to something basic and fix it in Photoshop.

Have Fun
Mike

Art or Porn - what is art? What is Porn?
Definitions - I found these and thought they were appropriate.

Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, sculpture, and paintings.

Pornography or porn is the depiction of explicit sexual subject matter for the purposes of sexual excitement.

Now the REAL reason I brought up this more than controversial question, I was offended, shocked, disturbed. For those who know me, it takes a something completely tasteless, over the top, racist, or just down right off the wall to make me scratch my head and say WTF.

The COLLECTIONS button on the top of DA made me do that. Has ANYONE clicked on "Collections" at the top of their DA page? If your at work, I strongly encourage you to have your Mature Filter ON. I was rather shocked at what I saw. It takes a lot to shock me by the way. Usually, it is blood and gore, and NOT the human body.

Please don't get me wrong, I appreciate the human body - both male and female.
I however do NOT need to see a collection labeled "Boobs", "Breasts", "Heaven's Door", "Erotic", and "Pussies" all within the first page. There's also a collection that celebrates virginal lips "something flowers - female flowers" if you go on the second or third page. There are also MANY other questionable collections if you just browse one or two pages in. Who needs to search for porn sites, we can just advertise the one click shopping for all who need there fix. Come to DA, click on the Collections button, and click your way to sensory happiness.

I'm old enough to remember Hustler Magazine of Old. It's claim to fame was to show as much of a woman's anatomy as possible including her female flower in bloom. Even when I was exploring my sexuality and I saw a Hustler my father had hidden under the bed, I thought OMG that is bad. The images were over the top and rude and degrading. I preferred Playboy and still do.

Is DA becoming the internet version of Hustler?
I personally think images have a place, and it isn't Deviant Art. Okay, it can be DA but somehow monitored and restricted so ADULTS can view these pages maybe for a small fee or membership, or with an age verification certificate like Adult Check.

I have no issues with Human nudity. I agree with DA that Male models can not have erect penis'. The same standards should be set for female nude models - No engrossed swollen virginal lips. Come on - there is only a couple of ways I can think of a woman getting in that condition. If I'm not mistaken, they all involve some sort of sexual stimulation of some sort. Pictures of this type are taken explicitly for the purpose of sexual excitement - either by the photographer, model, or viewer of the image. Yes - I can see how the shape, texture, light, or whatever might make it a beautiful picture. The picture might be perfect, but it isn't going to be posted in Time Square on a billboard or commercial art poster for the simple reason of limits. There are just limits as to what is .... what is that word...oh yeah...mooorrr...moorrraa....morally right. Morality might not be the right word - Culture Proper, Ethically Right, Common Sense? We have to remember America is a Puritan Society. We squirm at the idea of a hard penis' or shaved pubic areas. We are not Europe who has developed a bit more tolerant view of sex.

My biggest worry is having underage individuals stumble on this site. A teenage boy or girl can find plenty of masturbating material by clicking on the Collections tab and they don't have to go far. The first three pages of material are almost completely female nudes, and some that are rather borderline. It is still the artist's responsibility to monitor their internal creative spillage for culture and social morals.

Maybe Deviant Art needs to step up and start doing age verification of some sort? I don't know. Even 3D Art sites have there limits as to what you can post. The main site for Erotic 3D is Renderotica. You can find all the art that is banned on almost every site at Renderotica. They have bondage, hard penis', lesbian acts, gay sexual images, and about anything else that an image site might ban you for posting. BTW - enjoy viewing the works there if you didn't know about the site until now.

Sorry for the rant - getting tired and feeling a bit Rush Limbaughish on opium. I can't keep my mind focused.

Going Back to Basics
This is a reference to my personal stepping back to my roots of why I started doing 3D Art in the first place. The reason I started doing 3D Art in the first place was a friend of mine introduced me to it when he was making characters for our table top RPG. Yes, I said Table TOP. We played AD&D for over 20 years. I just recently stopped. I've discussed this in past journals. Any ways, I introduced Champions, a superhero roleplay game, to the group and we played that too. I was the GameMaster in charge of stories and running the game. After some soul searching, I've decided to step back for a moment in my themes. I've felt lost and no Muse to guide me. It feels like nothing I render or do seems to be working correctly. The lighting stinks, the program crashes, or the entire idea I have for a scene just does not work.

Tonight, I was playing with a program one of my friends game me a couple years ago. I never really got a chance to play with it properly. It is called the Comic Book Creator. It is basically a program that helps you do layouts for comic books. You can also publish them in PDF formats, html, jpg, or whatever. Various ideas are given - even publishing WoW screen shots for your group. I was thinking as I played with it - why don't I do my heroes of old. Okay, I don't mean knights and crap. I mean stuff I did back in 1988. The original hero game of heroes that started me into the 3D world, and make some comic book sheets with them. It wouldn't be anything great - but fun to share.

As an answer to the idea, I had some old note books one of my players kept notes of the game with. Actually, she kept notes of most games we were in. I had borrowed them to do a web page I was working on. I decided to see if she had notes on the campaign, and she DID.

I barely remembered what stories I did. The notes from that time for the game were destroyed long ago. She had pretty detailed accounts of what happened in her notes - about 16 pages of good reference material I can expand on. So back to basics for me is to work on my superheroes again with the new 3D programs I have and materials. I have literally 1000's of more models and junk to make the scenes I want to represent. I've avoided doing a comic book because it is labor intensive. Each panel has to be setup and rendered. It is almost a story boarding issue that I DID not want to play with. I guess, I will now in order to get over this mental block I'm having trying to make art and progress. Visiting the past might open a door the future for my mind and art - onward and upward.

Mike

Sorry for being MIA - I've been trying to learn Vue.
It really is not all that hard, but it's learning where things are.
If you just got VUE, here is a great site for VUE tutorials. The site is called GEEKPLAY (VERY Appropriate I have to say) [link]

I am currently going through their 100+ Tutorials to figure out how to really use the program. It is really work the time to listen to the Tutorials. I've already learned a number of cool tricks from just the first seven I've been through. I only have 100 more to go. I'm currently in the basic ones, but they are going fast. Naturally, they go from easiest to super advanced.

I really haven't started looking for freebies or things to add onto the program. I figured, unlike Poser, I'd learn it first and get stuff after wards.

I still need to get my TAC exchange character done. I will probably get that done tonight. I wanted to have her rendered out of VUE, but I ran into a couple of issues with the program finding texture maps. She will still be out of Poser which is fine. Poser being my first love.

Dan and I went to the State Fair. It was fun.
We ate most of the time. What else is the Fair for?
I finally gave in and tried the Deep Fried Twinkies. I have to say - OMG they are good.
We had green apples covered in caramel and pecans, tacos, BBQ, fried Twinkies, soda, and a beer. I dearly wanted to try the mini-donuts they have. I swear out of the fryer they are a bit of heaven. If you have tried a Krispy Cream donut hot off the conveyor belt, you have some idea as to what I speak. These little diamonds are better. Oh man are they good, but I was to full to even nibble of a few and try not to explode. They are far from wafer thin.

Still playing with vue - ......

Journal Skin by =Thewinator and ~keepwalking07

I didn't have the money, but I got it anyways. I've been wanting the thing for a long, long, long time. I thought Bryce would let me do some wonderful backgrounds, and it does. However, Bryce does not let you import Poser figure properly. You have to save it as a OBJ, import, find the textures, and set everything back up. Carrara does import Poser files, but does not always get them right. I'm hoping Vue will let me make the images I want with dept that I've been wanting to make. We shall see.

BTW: If anyone wants a commission, now is a good time. I've gotta pay for my new VUE, and I'll probably give you a break on price too.

This was a question to me from my last journal, and I thought it needed a bit of attention to this wonderful, kind, and well spoken soul.

I belong to
"Why does it matter if people use your images. Its not like they would ever have paid you. They might gain but I don't see how you lose. An artist who does not want their pictures to be viewed or used? This is the complete opposite of my way of thinking."

My Response
In a way you sort of got my point, a common user person who downloads an image for his computer or collection is not really my target. A simple watermark is going to mean squat over crap to them. Now a corporation like Facebook, Twitter, or any other social group who takes an image and uses it for FREE advertising, I have to say is my real target. They are more than welcome to use my watermarked image but they will not with 1000s of free images out there for the taking. The idea is to stop those who should be paying from getting FREE stuff. I am more than happy for someone use one of my image if they wish, but for a business related nature they must purchase a license. The watermark is to prevent commercial use of your work.

As for an artist who doesn't want their pictures to be viewed or used, I'm afraid you have it wrong there. I and many other want them to be viewed. We have no issues with that. What we have an issue with is people who erase our names and say they did the work. We have an issue with people literally stealing our art. Corporate America is just as guilty as the average art thief on any photo share site who puts up a piece of art with glowie glitter created by some "artist" and claims the work is theirs. The idea behind the watermark is to stop the casual art thief from bastardizing your work.

And as for people paying for my work, I DO sell commissions. I've been commissioned to do book covers, and I sell prints of my works. How I lose?...it pretty obvious. The works I spend hours upon hours on, the money I spent to buy models, the work itself, and the bottom line - money is lost. Buying a print from an artist is saying your appreciate his or her work enough to separate yourself from - in - my case $5. I only make about a $1 off the print. DA makes the rest.

One of my regrets of this place is I bought a print account. I wish I hadn't. The only good thing about it is I can get professional prints from DA and they do look good. I haven't sold a print here yet. However, I have art on Zazzle and that does sell. People rather download the base image DA shows or the readily available Download button for the full image then pay for a REAL print.

I forgot to say on my original message to
If you don't want to safeguard your works, it is your responsibility. Giving corporate American your images for free is your free will. A free will is a wonderful thing. It allows one to make good and bad decisions. The bottom line is it is "your" decision to be one of the 1000s of free image available for Facebook to claim as theirs and use to advertise their site with for FREE. You will gain some notoriety for the 15 minute the image is up, but Facebook will have make tens of thousands of dollars in that time while your pat yourself on your back. You have lost nothing.

Stepping off soup box -
We are all responsible for our works. Everyone is responsible for their own actions - the lurkers, watchers, and artist.
Be safe - use your condom - be fruitful
Mike

Okay I take lite on the Sharing business - I don't really agree with the mess, but I will not go to the extremes of some by deleting my gallery. I put to much effort and time building my web presence on Deviant Art to throw it away.

I would suggest a more PROACTIVE action on the part of those who DO NOT like the decision to have their works openly shared on the internet with little assurance as to the copyright legality of it all.

Feeling a bit more proactive, I suggest the following:
1. Make all images on your pages at 600 pixels or larger it's up to you.
2. Upload low quality images - 72 DPI images at 800x600. Place a watermark on the image.
If someone wants a better quality image, they can contact you or purchase a print.
3. Use DA's watermark on your images, it's available to everyone, and it's FREE. DA's watermark is not that offensive anymore, but it does prevent download. If someone can cover it up in Photoshop, they have some pretty good skills and a great deal of time to waste.

It simple to stop Facebook from using your images for promotion purposes if the images are low quality, or are watermarked. Watermarking is available to everyone and is FREE. It's like a condom use it to be safe.

Benifits
1. Your images CAN be shared with the links to your works.
2. With the links, you are getting free advertising for you name and works.
3. It stops random images from being stolen because they are watermarked, and low quality.

All that really matters is your works are viewable.
If the images are watermarked and low enough quality, the companies like Facebook and Twitter can not use them for advertising or anything else. Watermarking is a deterrent available to EVERYONE with submitting your works. They are like everyone else. They want good quality images for their products.

As an example, I have gone through my entire gallery and reduced everything to approx 600x800 and watermarked everything with the FREE DA watermark. It's really your choice what you want to share with the internet, and give to big business since the WEB is still the Wild Wild West of business. It's all about take, use, and make sure it free to make, and a bundle to charge for. The glory of advertising on the web.

NEW:
People tend to forget DA is a business. They are here to make $$$$.
1. They make money by people having memberships.
2. They make money from prints.
3. They make money by selling merchandise.
4. They also make money for every mistaken click on any of those banner ads that catch your attention. And the more traffic that comes to the site, the more money they can potentially make.

DA is a business. Have we forgotten that?
And YES they have crappy customer service.....

Mike

Okay I am bored - working on an image for someone special but still bored.
My partner is out of town, so that leaves me to my own devices. I get to watch whatever I want. I get to eat whatever I want, but I am bored. Isn't that how it goes?

I've been thinking. Okay run now while you have the chance....
There have been so many people who have TAKEN my energy through out the years. Those who have hurt me both mentally, spiritually, and sometimes physically that if slowly eats at you. It is things you fester on and they eat at you health, your mind, and your psyche.
Earlier this week, I was thinking about those people who had done these things to me - purposely or unconsciously. In most cases, it was purposeful. I decided ENOUGH is ENOUGH. I remembered a technique that I once heard about, someplace, that works. It gives you back part of you, and the amazing thing is those people who you entirely forgot about - you WILL remember their names for this short time. The mind is a cruel thing, but is there to save us sometimes.
The exercise is simple.
You state what was taken - you love of an item, the feelings you had for someone, your love for a specific music group (for example, I had a friend who said they hated the CARS. I loved the CARS, but their influence tainted something I really like. I like them again.)
Once you have stated what was taken - just take it back.
Something like this - Kelly Hoff you look away my love for the music by the CARS, I take it back.
The same goes for those who hurt you. You take back the fear, you take back the hurt, you deny them the energy, the connection they have with you. It is basically a chance to sever those Psychic ties you have with those that hurt you.
The special part is you have to say it aloud. Doing it in your mind does not seem to help, but to speak it aloud - you can feel the connection leave and the weight lift pebble by pebble by boulder by mountain.
Good luck

On the art side - The Planet Panic piece looks fantastic printed, matted and framed. I had it printed today, and have it sitting in the frame I plan on presenting it in. I also have a print of Techno Mage done since DA rejected the print. It too looks fantastic.
I have eight pieces to show for the Bubonicon show. I was going to show the space fleet one, but it doesn't fit with the collection. All the shots are people.

Hugs to all
Mike

It does not matter what you use for a medium. I guess the contest is also advertised in many other UK magazines.
The contest is Digital Artist Awards 2009. [link]
You have to register to submit art.
There are industry judges reviewing the works, and it's great exposure.
The sponsors are INTEL, Autodesk, and several other companies.
It does not say what the prizes are, but the exposure is probably the best part. If there are prizes from these companies, I'm sure they are super.
You are allowed to enter 5 pieces. There are numerous categories to enter pieces.
I strongly suggest entering. All works of art must have been made after April of 2008.
If your work has won any awards from contest which have more than 500 entries, you are not allowed to enter that work.

Okay done pimping the contest

I also would like to thank everyone for your support on my new images.
The WIP images was a work in progress that are in my scraps for a reason.
I'm slowly getting the image done.
For those who were sending helpful thoughts about the Prints, they made it. I suspect my sub-mailman was not delivering the mail, or not all of it. The prints came today and look really good. The Artist #1 is a little dark for my taste, and some of the detail was lost in the Lustra print. The others came out very very well. I was amazed at how well the Pose #1 came out.
On the other side of the coin, the small business loan I was waiting on fell through. We need to move onto the next bank and see what they say. We were encouraged to try with the Small Business Association which is a government branch to see if we could get our money to start up. Just one more hurdle to jump - my legs and body are getting tired of jumping.

At the home front, some jerk kids tagged out outside wall. Dan and I went to get something eat and when we returned some gangsters were making our wall for some purpose. Tagging as far as I'm concerned is like a dog pissing on a bush. It needs to mark it's territory. I painted over the tag with some pain I had left over from painting the extra room. I was just one more thing to worry about, and a sign our neighborhood is slipping into the ghetto.

Well - I learned the hard way.
If you order a print from Deviant Art, you better not want it in a timely manner. If you do, you have to pay through the ass to get it. This sorry state of mine comes from my experience with DA's Print program. I ordered a set of pictures to made into prints that I wanted to exhibit in about a week. I figured it might take a week to get the images, and give me the remaining time to get them properly framed.
WELL I was stupid.
Deviant Art can take up to 2 (TWO) WEEKS to get you order after it ships, and folks that is by the UNITED STATED POST OFFICE and FIRST CLASS MAIL.
IF I get my order my Tuesday, I will be still okay. But seriously, I am dismayed that DA would actually say wait two weeks, and if you haven't gotten the order by then - contact us, NO really, please, wait, two weeks for your first class mail to arrive. Really makes me wonder if they DID ship it the day they say - Guess I won't be dealing with DA anymore.
It's actually pretty sad. I WAS considering getting a print membership, but I can go to a local shop have prints made, and send them US MAIL FIRST CLASS and have something in a customers hands in a max of 5 days.
Awe frustration -

This is a reference for Poser and anyone who buys content and needs to track it. The program I've been using is called Content Catalog 2.0 beta 6. It is a TOTAL freebie by Bob Coleman at Artzone. In order to Download it, I believe you will need to be a member of Artzone but I could be wrong.
Also, this is a DATABASE for tracking content.

Content Catalog 2.0 - available here: [link]

The program will upload your DAZ history if you have a script written by OrcaSoul available at Daz3d forums. You will have to do a search on OrcaSoul to find the scripts. The readme, although rather scarce, does tell you how to add the files to a spreadsheet and import your data from the various places you've purchased items. The Content Paradise one works perfectly. All you have to do is dl your history from CP to your computer, and import the data into Content Catalog. It will bring in pictures, price, and all the other stuff including ALL those freebies.

Once you have the content, you can run Zette's Challenge. It's list under projects. It will randomly pick its from your content you have listed in the Content Catalog. I have my DAZ, Renderosity, Content Paradise, Poser Pro, and RDNA materials installed. I LOVE it.

Have fun - it is a great program and Bob Coleman is updating it to do a bit more. The reports a bit slim, but in the readme it tells how to expand the report writing for FREE.
Happy rendering - Mike

Not a great deal going on -
I have a couple of commissions to complete before the end of the month, and a personal list as long as my arm to complete. Life is not boring just busy.

Here are my current rates on commissions and such.
I'm getting better about figuring rates for my commissions.
I always forget stuff, so here is the current list.

Commissions
I prefer the following Genres:
1. Fantasy - example is [link]
2. Science Fiction example - [link]
3. Superheroes - Example - [link]
4. MORP characters - [link]
5. RPG characters - Example - [link]
6. Self Published Book Covers - soon to be an example
7. Posters Based on a Theme - Example [link]

I can produce:
1. Signatures
2. Icons
3. Wallpapers
4. Prints
5. And anything I forgot

Commissions Prices (I am going to try to keep these prices for 2009)
1. $10 per hour min 3 hours per character set up - $100 max.
2. $10 for Photo Print and Mailing.
3. $5 for simple background - flag, signal, whatever.
4. $10 for more complete background - city, forest
5. $5 for special effects or special post work
6. $5 for Icons, signature, etc.
7. Paypal service fee which is approx 4%.
8. $25 total fee for a new images based on a character that has already been set up.
9. I will do framing if requested but the fee is based on the current cost of matting, frames, and cost to ship to address. One can expect an approximately a $20 to $50 increase in the price of the commission. Framing is NOT cheap.

I use Paypal for transactions.

Interested in a commission - Note me
Information about a character or characters can me emailed to mcafee.mic@gmail.com

Well today was my fist day back to work after three weeks. We have Christmas and New Years off, and I took the week after to enjoy since the holidays are so bad. I also had enough vacation to take the few days before Christmas, do it was nice.
Well back to what I was saying, I HATE my job. Today, I found out that I was not qualified for a job anyone could learn. Well, I could learn the job in probably a week. My boss informed me that I was not qualified to do the work because our client wanted someone already trained. What he didn't know is I knew that the person who had applied for the position. He works for a contractor that we deal with. One of my co-workers, wanting the finders fee, asked if he wanted to apply for the job. I have no problems with him being hired. I have an issue that he is not a current employee. Basically they hired who they wanted in the job, and sod whoever tried to apply.
I reason I'm outraged is I have a MBA which is NOT used in my job. When I brought this up, they did a great deal of song and dance. My current job I learned fairly quickly, and took it in hopes of getting something better. The something better was to KEEP my job when we had a reduction in force. I once again ended up in a closed ended job. Job I HATE my job. I am so angry I could scream, but instead I'm trying to channel some of that anger into art which isn't working very well.
The year started off good, but looks like I'm being told to get out of my F**king job and move on. There is nothing there for me. Time to get rid of the old, and look for something that I will smile when I come home. I miss laughing at work. We rarely laugh we've to afraid when they will say you no longer will have a job. I really miss laughing at work.

Here is working Bio. In other words, I'm still working on it.

Name: Michael McAfee - AKA McAfee2000
Email: mcafee.mic@gmail.com
Website: [link]

Greetings
My real name is Michael McAfee and I am a Poser Addict. Most people know me as McAfee2000, I use the name on almost every site I am registered, and I use the same logo for my Icon. I live an reside in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is a medium size city of about half a million. The state motto is "Land of Enchantment". We here call it the Land of Entrapment, because you just can seem to escape once you live here longer than a year.

I've heard you should say your name and state your addiction in those AA meetings, and I am addicted to the 3D Program called Poser. I guess addicted to the program is not really viable.
I am addicted to creating 3D Art with the program, and processing it in Photoshop to eventually create images from my imagination. In truth, I've always been fascinated with art. I've taken many classes, and found that my one frustration has always been the ability to draw the human form. I could never get it down. When a friend of mine introduced me to Poser in 2006, I gathered my money and ordered the program. After many months of deciphering the program I found I was on a steep, long, hard road of learning and refinement to master this annoying program which I eventually found indispensable. Today, I create works that are more than they seem. As a recent comment stated about an image of mine called Autumn Leap Fairy, At first glance image isn't very ... noteworthy; yet the leaves and all, means after a short while it become a very nice retro ... almost art-deco image with colors and moods appropriate. In the end, I really like the overall - the leaves make me envious...I found this comment rather ironic since my favorite style is Art-Deco and I've been trying to emulate it for years with limited success.

Currently, I am a Beta-Test and Promo Artist for an RDNA sponsored site called Fantasies Realms. I was apprehensive about taking on the responsibilities but it has broadened my skills of different elements to test, and merchandise new product. My promotional images have been presented in many newsletters and featured on the Fantasies Realms Front Page.

I am also available for commissions. My preferred themes are Science Fiction and Fantasy. I really love working on Superhero images. I have a unique understanding of RPG characters as I've been an active AD&D player for over 25 years, and have played in more RPG games than I can think of. Okay, I can count them. My library of RPG games is in my office, as are my Comic Books, Magazines, and toys.

Please feel free to inquire about a commission, I am currently open and my rates are surprisingly reasonable. Most images are between $35 to $55 with additional cost based on special requests or difficulty of the project.

Awards and Acknowledgments

* Fantasies Attic - Starving Artist of the Week 11-22-08 for the Image Dragon Slayer
* Fantasies Attic - Treasure of the Week 08-16-08 for the Image Alicorn
* Dreamslayer Artworks - Picture of the Week 06-22-08 The Vampire Bride
* RDNA Artist of the Week - 08-14-06 for the image Artist No.1.
* 3D Commune Newsletter - Featured Image 12 Times between September 2006 and April of 2007.

(okay not that's said.)

For the 3D Artists out there, I like to post the following information about a site that some of us have loved for years because of his certain brand of clothing he creates - BVH.
Baron Von Harkonan or BVH is a 3D Modeler who makes some of the best 3D Fantasy clothing, and fetish garments. They might go hand in hand, but he does a great job with them.
He posted the following message to the community, and I thought I'd share it with you. If you like his work, I suggest hurrying over there and get what you have been putting off buying. You will not be able to get it again.

Dear Friends,
Due to my commitments to other projects and lack of time, I have decided that Planetvixens.com will be coming to its end. Products at Planetvixens.com will still be on sale till the 15th of November 2008 - after which Planetvixens.com shall come to it's end.

I would like to take the opportunity to apologize to everyone for my frequent absence of late at Planetvixens.com. Sorry for the inconveniences it has caused.

Thank you for the support and encouragement over the years, and have a creative and successful year everyone.

- BVH

I hope you have a little money left over after the DAZ sales. I have a form designed that goes to query to search information.
I have everything set up but I can not for the life of me get the argument right to work with the (Null) blank fields in some of the columns. For the form area, I'm just putting [form], since I don't want to go through the entire string.

Product - user defined(this works fine as a stand alone)
Criteria used - Like "*" & [Form]+ "*"
This by itself will return the information based on the Search

Vendor - List defined (this is one of the problem areas)
Criteria used - [Form]& null
This one seems to work the best for defining the limits but does not return Null areas. I want the option to leave this blank and still do the search off the Product Field from the form if I do not know the Vendor.

I have a few other fields that I wish to narrow information down, and eventually run a report from the data generated.

If you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Hugs to everyone.

Fight Prejudice - The world sees GAY as EVIL

CLARIFICATION
Just to clarify, I WILL still be here. I am just not renewing my subscription because my personal life is just getting to busy. I'm have the hardest time just keeping up with those I watch here and other sites. I've been running on about two or three hours of personal time a day. The weekends are being eaten up by personal errands and other projects. Oh - I've also have to use some of that copious free time to check up on my parents to see if they are okay or need anything since they no long have a car.

I am also not asking anyone to gift me a subscription. It is a lovely thought, and I have had a very special person offer to give me a two month. I graciously turned it down because of the reasons I stated in my first paragraph. Money is not one of my worries at the moment for a change. If I wanted to, I'd just get a yearly one and forget about the thing. At this moment, it's just a waste of money and time.

MY LOVELY PARENTS AND THE STUFF THEY GET THEMSELVES INTO

Case one - The Used Hyundai Car
Just a thought on my parent's ex-car - it was a piece of crap.
My parents bought an Hyundai Alantra last year. It was a year old and had 12000 miles on it. My father drove it for about 6 months before the clutch fell out. Thinking he had done something wrong to the car, my father had it fixed. The car still acted up, so he traded it in for an Hyundai Accent. The Alantra found it's way to a used car dealer who sold it. The gentleman who bought the car contacted my father using the Car-Fax information to ask him if he had ever had any issues with the car. My father wanted to know why and told him about the clutch. The gentleman asked because the engine had fallen out.

Case Two - The Elderly Scam
Well the Hyundai Accent my father purchased was nice. I ran well but my brother told me that the payment was almost $500 per month for a $12000 car. My parent's skirted the issue until my father had his triple bypass. My father wanted the car returned thinking he would not make it thought the surgery. Well, the grace of God kicked in and my Mother found the sales receipts for the Accent and the Alantra in the car. I looked over the paper work and was appalled and shocked. The totals on both pieces of paperwork were identical to the penny. The only difference was the interest rate was set at 17% by Wells Fargo which explained the outrageous monthly payment. The grand total payoff for the car was $38,000. The case has been given to the New Mexico Attorney General for review.

This is part of my time consumption.

This is probably my last CSS Journal. I have the CSS saved, but I will probably redo it anyways. I'm getting really really rusty on my web design skills.

Respect a Gay Man or Woman

Fight Prejudice - The world sees GAY as EVIL

Well I got a response from individual -
Basically, he was upset that I used a long description and did not use "This is not public domain. Do not reproduce without consent"

My response was the following.

All I can say is with the new laws - any art needs to be protected by the artist. They do nothing to protect you or I as an artist. The government is slowly giving companies the right to DL anything they see on the internet as free assess. Even if you say its not public domain.

YES - Rendo might be a place to "share" your work, but it is NOT a place for individuals to share to the extent of copying, changing the name of the person who made it, make it glitter like a Christmas tree and call it their own. Sharing is dling the work to your home computer and having a nice wallpaper because the piece catches your eye. I have NO problem with that . I do have a problem if the artist's name is Photoshopped off and the person calls it your own.

The statement I used, I've been using for a while. I use it Deviant Art which has over a million individuals creating and making art. If you haven't been to Deviant Art, the theme for some artist is to cover the bases.

I've been on enough - "my art has been ripped off journeys" to see what others will do with the generosity of the "shared" artwork. And I hate to say it, those thieves are not only the viewers of these pages, but web designers, corporations looking for easy FREE artwork, and companies looking for a quick fix for their immediate needs. I've also seen artist works end up in magazines that they had no knowledge of, nor compensation for.

My statement is there if by chance some corporate idiot, or web designer sees a bit they like and goes off and makes money off my work and does not give credit.
The likelihood of me actually getting it enforced is probably nil, but for the prospective art theft the statement is there. It is only a deterrent, but it covers the bases. If someone DOES use my art for personal gain, I believe we can enter the field of Copyright Enforcement. I'm sure there are enough two faced lawyers out there who would love to sue a Corp, or large business Pro Bono. I am only covering the bases so that IF something does happen. These trustworthy individuals can not say there was NEVER a warning or statement saying they could not use my work.

The idea is to be SMART about it. Your statement of, "This is not public domain. Do not reproduce without consent" is simply a bandage. Without defining what it CAN be used for, the holes are left wide open.

Do as you will with your own work. I choose to be safe.
The statement is my Condom.

Lastly, it actually does bother me that you are so bothered by a stupid ass statement than looking at the art. We are artist first, art loves second, critics, dreamers, and somewhere down the line we are paper pushers. If someone places a copyright badge on their work, I'd ask why are you even reading it if you not interested. I'd say skip the reading and enjoy the art.

PEACE

Mike

Respect a Gay Man or Woman

The comment reads the following. This is a direct cut and past. The user is from Renderosity. I haven't looked to see if the person hangs out here.

"by Homus_Artistic on Aug 18, 2008 9:07:21 am
I like what you did with this character, but all the copyright rant that you included in the comments is really a turn off..."

I included the following Copyright statement to protect myself from those who steal artwork and claim it as their own. It is no less than what a great number of artist do here everyday to protect themselves from potential thieves. The statement of Homus_Artistic is rather odd that it was a "turn off". All I have to ask is why was it a "turn off". Did it mean you couldn't dl my piece and claim it as your own at photobucket or use it on something else without my permission?
Why the hell is this a "turn off"?
Fight Prejudice - The world sees GAY as EVIL

Rainbow Connection

Just a couple thoughts, and I are having a rather different conversation about the OLD days.
We've both have had hard times and I stated, "Where the heck is my rainbow? With all this rain, there should be a rainbow!"
Well if there is a rainbow, I haven't seen it yet.
Well on the bright side this led to the discussion of who would understand the phrase - The Rainbow Connection. It is a reference to the Muppet Movie and one of the great songs in it.
Now the question raised is where were you when you saw it? and what format.
I can say I saw it on HBO when they actually played movies.
I also have a copy on VHS someplace. It's a great movie for FUN. Also reminds you that Dreamers have a place in the world.
Now the other question - who remembers when MTV actually showed music videos? I do, and my favorite is pretty mixed. Almost any of the early ones from the European invasion hits home. However, Thriller is one of my Favs because of Vincent Price narrating it.

I want to thank EVERYONE who may have featured me. I really appreciate you liking my work. It means the world to me.
I am just way way behind. I can currently at 895 deviants, and 331 messages. I don't know if I will ever her able to catch up.

Commissions

Commissions I've changed the prices after the last few I've done. I've realized how time consuming and difficult some can be. I am changing the cost for characater set up. THe character takes the most time. My new rates are: I will charge $10 per hour up to $100 for each charcter set up. The $10 is considerably less than I earn at my "real" job, and I see the upper limit being reached by only the more taxing commissions. It doesn't matter how many characters are in the image the price is $10 per hour for each character set up.
Everything else is pretty much the same. Don't be distraut about the prices, I have to say in most cases the base character will usually be about 3 hours of work at most. Only when I have to make a texture, or something special does the cost ever go very high. Making a specialized texture can take many many hours, so that is why I set the cap of $100.

JOIN THE VAMPYRE ARMY - We need new Blood

If you haven't checked out the :iconVampyreAmry:, I suggest giving it a look if you love Vampires and Werewolves. I had just started posting my gallery images to their main site and I won the POTW for 06-21-08. The image that was chosen was the Vampire Bride This image will also be spotlighted as RDNA, and I got a $20 GC to spend there. I am just shocked. It seemed the image was not received very well so I figured I hadn't done a good job. I had spend hours and hours trying to get the image right for a gift. I wanted it to special.

DEN OF TROLLS CONTEST

The Den of Troll is have a contest. I'm literally overwhelmed at the moment with projects. Beyond the projects I NEED to get done - let the drum roll start -
1. Adoption Portraits for Ellen Million Graphics. [link] If you haven't heard of her site check it out. The portriat adoption is basically you buy a work of art for 5 years. The portraits tend to be of individual characters that someone might find useful for some project. The prices vary depending on the artist and medium.

2. beta/promo artist position for DreamSlayer Artwork [link] This requires a great deal of time. I've done several images for them, but I can't show them here until the item is released.

3. Getting some freebies, and sell items ready for DSA and other sites for sell. So I should be in the marketplace soon, I hope.

5. I have a commission for for a villain group of his. It's taking some time because of the size and complexity of the image. I also have to make serveral textures for the bodies.

6. Started playing the new version of AD&D as a break from everything on Saturdays.

I HAVE to see probably 10 movies this summer. Okay, it's the summer blockbuster year. There are just to many movies. I've seen Prince Caspian, Indiana Jones, Sex in the City, and Zohan so far. The only one that disappointed me was Indiana.

JOIN THE VAMPYRE ARMY - We need new Blood

If you haven't checked out the :iconVampyreAmry:, I suggest giving it a look if you love Vampires and Werewolves. I thank everyone for their comments and favs. I may or may not be able to thank everyone.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. I actually spent it with my Mother on Wednesday. I bought her a new dress, sweater, and purse for Sunday. Dan and I were off to El Paso to visit his mom. It was Mexican Mother's Day on Saturday, Mother's Day on Sunday, and her birthday. It was a tripple header for her. It was hot and dry there, but fun. If I hadn't been so tired, I probably would have had a better time. I thank everyone for their comments and favs. I may or may not be able to thank everyone.

I'm working Adoption Portraits for Ellen Million Graphics. [link] If you haven't heard of her site check it out. The portriat adoption is basically you buy a work of art for 5 years. The portraits tend to be of individual characters that someone might find useful for some project. The prices vary depending on the artist and medium.

I'm still sorting my Runtimes. God this has taken literally over a year to do it correctly. I still have a ways to go. I have them set up in Alphabetical folders for all the freebies. The people I actually buy stuff from go into their own folder. It makes finding things a little easier sometimes. I've tried doing a database but none of them seem to work very well or are limited in the reporting.

JOIN THE VAMPYRE ARMY - We need new Blood

If you haven't checked out the :iconVampyreAmry:, I suggest giving it a look if you love Vampires and Werewolves.
Fight Prejudice - The world sees GAY as EVIL

NEWS

Nothing new really - I took the Monday and Tuesday off to relax. It was good because I was sick most of the week. I caught whatever is going around blaH!.

I've started converting my OLD VCR tapes over to DVD. Oh what a dream that is, I have hundreds of VCR tapes. The only fun is watching the old commercials that I want to edit out. The first tape I grabbed just happened to be a Max Headroom tape, so it was a flash back to the mid 80's on those for me. I was probably 23-24 when they were showing in 87-88. God, it feels like it wasn't that long. And just to be a bit sarcastic, I have to say the Advertising from the 80's was so Gay. No, I really do mean "Gay" and not Gay. The clothing, the haircuts - I was sort of shocked by how much the borderline. It wasn't bad. I enjoyed every moment of it when I could stand to watch one.
The only issue I seem to have with converting are some of my purchased movies from the latter part of the VCR area. They had a scrambled signal in them that the VCR didn't mind but if you tried to dub the VCR it didn't copy. It's find most of the movies I can purchase on DVD again since they are like 7.99 now. It's those ones that aren't in print that make it difficult.

Well I'd like to congratulate those I choose for my personal choices for s Equine Contest -

Those chosen were:

I noted 4 Downloads for the texture so I'm going to assume that everyone got it if not note me and I will send it to you. I've heard nothing from the winners concerning if I can make it available to the community. So by executive decision, I will make it available on March 14th for everyone to play with. That is one month after the Equine contest.

If the winners would like a link to the Rainbow Warrior Texture, I can make it available to you. I will go though your gallery and choose three of your deviations I like most and post them in my journal for everyone to see! It's pretty much an advertising self promotion on someone else's page... hey free billboards!

Only other rule:

You gotta do the same thing in your journal!

So post away!

COMMISSIONS

featured me in his journal as one of the artists open for commission. I really appreciate him doing this to no end. I'm open for almost any kind of commission just Note me on price, and polices. To say thank you I made this little gift for him -

My rates for those interested -

The price strongly depends on what will be in the pic, that is on the number of elements in it, cause the more elements the more time I need to set up, render and postwork the pic, also it depends on whether I need to buy some additional items or not. But let me give you some examples.

A simple portrait (your character against a plain black background) - $25.

A simple portrait with some big props or with another characters in it - $30.

A full feature image with a background - $35, or Two characters in it - $40.

If I have to make a new texture for the character, I charge an additional $5 for it. The texture can take some time depending on how complicated it is.

Some super extra finish, like sepia tones or special effects like rain/reflection or heavy postwork effects require more than one render and take lots of work in Photoshop, so I charge additional $5 for them.

I only work on one image at a time and I work on the pic until you are completely satisfied with it and I let you see the progress - that is I do a test render, send it to you for approval, you give me your critique, I make improvements, send it to you again, and so on until the image is perfect in your eyes. And, I work on only one pic at a time, that means I work exclusively on your pic until it's done.

If you want the full copyrights to the pic, that means I will not post the pic anywhere and will not offer it as my print, also if you want to use the pic comercially - I charge additional $40.

You will get a big 3000x2000 print-quality pic or larger, of course I can do a smaller version, or resize it to be a desktop wallpaper or whatever you wish.

If there is a problems with cash and I don't want to charge...
