Hello all!

I realize I haven't been around at all lately - this summer I was so busy I really didn't have that much time to do any art. My family was travelling a lot, and I ended up spending a huge amount of time going to random festivals all over the city, on the phone with my university getting my transfer information sorted out (I'm finally an English major after 4 years of existential crises! Huzzah! Break out the champagne!) and helping out with the EMP/Scifi Museum Jim Henson exhibit. The Muppet exhibit was totally awesome btw - you should totally see the exhibit if it comes to your town. I got to see one of the original Kermits!! !!!
I am still (kind of) working on the islands comic, but it will probably be a while before it is every finished to go to print (if that ever happens - at this point I am kind of running out of steam on it). I'm taking like a million zillion credits this semester so you probably won't see that much of me - lame, I know! But the good news is that while I'm insanely busy reading and studying things, I am really enjoying myself so far - so it's all good.

TTFN,
Mishy

Just in case you're wondering what the hold up is with the rest of the islands comic, I'm still working on a few panels on pages 3 and 5, which is holding up my posting the first section of the comic.
However, most of the comic is coming together nicely - I posted a few pages of the later Enchantment section for you to check out in the meantime while I get the first two sections inked. It'll be more apparent when you see the rest of the pages, but the Enchantment section is meant to contrast with the stark black and white of the rest of the comic, because I'm trying to make the case that inner musical "worlds" can be more complex and evocative than ordinary life - which is what makes music so transcendent... I think the amount of texture, lack of panels/frames, plus the non-digital inking really brings out the difference between the

Here's what I still have left to do:
1. Text on pages 10, 11, 17-20

So, that all has to get done by Wednesday!
Once things get more finished, I'll be sure to post more images and let you know when the in-print version will be available online.

Ta ta for now,
Mishy

Hello all!

I've been busy working on my final project for this Islands class I'm taking - as you know, I've already uploaded the first two pages to DA. I'm racing to the finish with this printing deadline, which will be sometime the week of the 23rd! I thought I would post my progress here, for my reference, but if you happen to be interested, read on!

There is some perspective/technical drawing stuff on page three that is tripping me up, which is holding up my posting of the next couple of pages. The first section of the comic (pages 1-6, "Tempest") however, are close to being finished - page 4 is pretty much done with the exception of greys, pages 3, 5, & 6 are all about 50% done being inked.
The next section, "Island" (pages 7-10), has yet to be pencilled... Unfortunately, this section also has some detail oriented pages, so I will likely have to seriously take some time to finish it. There is one page in particular which may give me problems - originally I wanted it to be in fish-eye perspective...but now I'm not so sure, since it's also a detail-oriented view of a fancy living room, and that could get complex really quickly!
I just got through with the concept thumbnail sketches of the next section and I plan to finish them Mon-Wed of this week. Luckily, this section is going to be a collage of traditional media, which I think will actually be a LOT faster than the digital inking. As much as I'm trying to get used to the tablet/inking with it, I'm afraid pencil and paper is always going to be quicker and more natural for me. So, hopefully you'll see those up on the site sometime soon.
The last section - "The Return" - is something I keep playing with but I haven't come up with anything satisfactory yet. Hopefully I'll have the thumbnails ready by next week so I can really start with those.

Woot! Well, hopefully I can do everything before the printing becomes an issue! Wish me luck!
-Mishy

I still have my birthday and several concerts/operas to look forward to!
As for art...
I'm sorry I've been away from DevArt recently - I was completely absorbed with school last semester and I ended up being fairly busy during the break. I've switched over to a new computer, so I'm still in the process of sorting out what it was I was working on (art-wise) before the switchover. When I get it all sorted out, there will be more Le Rossignol stuff!
I should also mention that I've made some changes to Val Kerry's Ref Sheet, which will also be update hopefully before the month is out.

Hopefully you'll hear from me again soon -
Mishy

I'm thinking about doing some kind of Project Runway style challenge for myself, only with art (that probably makes no sense, but it sounded ok until I typed it out). Maybe something where the challenges are to design websites and redesign cartoon characters? I feel like I'm stuck in an art rut, so I'm looking for inspiration.
I'm starting to work seriously on that Madeleine Sophie comic, so that should be ready by the end of September, early October. I dropped off some copies of the first couple pages to the people who might be interested in it at my old high school, so we'll see if anything comes of that. I'm also contemplating sending some to the network of schools, or perhaps even the network schools here in Montreal. We'll just have to see.
In the meantime, I'd like to take a second shot at remaking my comic website for Le Rossignol. I already have the logo ready and I made some cool buttons and stuff, so it should be fairly easy to put it together. This time I'm not doing anything ridiculously complex, so it should be a little easier for the thing to come together.
My eventual plan to do an artbook at some point is also still ruminating in the back of my mind, but I think I need to focus on getting the issue out first. (Though, a Chobits-like Postcard set for Le Ross. is awfully tempting to work on!).
I feel rather novice-y at all this graphic design stuff, though it is interesting. I feel like I need some serious exposure to some real art classes in order to work on strengthening the art things that I'm not good at (like, seriously, everything that isn't superhero-looking women).
Anyhow, I've got a serious headache and many things left still to do, so I'm going to skip off for the moment!
-M

It should be cool when it's finished, but it' taking a while to figure out because I've got an image that I want to stick into the top corner of the website (which would be easy enough to do using align/float and all that), but it's actually got to be split into two images, so I'm trying to use frames to sort it out. So far, it's kind of working??
I also feel like I should work on a new image series, since I've never done a series and I'd really like to do one. Suggestions?? Right now I'm thinking about doing a mucha-type zodiac thing, but that seems kinda overdone. Perhaps the Disney princesses in some form? I've never really taken a lot of time to draw them, and they could be fun. I did a series of them a while ago which was like all of them as high school stereotypes which was kind of hilarious. Maybe I could revamp that? I'm also thinking of doing just a bunch of fan art for the recent anime series that I've been watching? Now I've gotta go do some work...and prepare for a mountain of finals!

Hello!
I'm finally back from the bizarre and far-too-long hiatus. I'm hoping to scan some stuff to put up...so I can finally get rid of all this old stuff! Gah! I'm getting sick of looking at my art from a gazillion years ago. My tablet is finally working - hurrah! I'm very excited- I still need practice though!
Updated my scraps- I still have to clean stuff out of here, but I did put up a new scrap of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I was doodling and...the girl turned into Belle. I swear I had nothing to do with it...

Currently working on: Team Awesome Comic Project! Thumbnail sketches = 85%

Ta ta for now!

I'm finally at college! And, I'm realizing how old all this art is! I probably won't be using this site much around now, since I'm kinda busy. But I'll still watch people/fav.
Adios for now,

Well, I'm going to McGill next year. Not sure if I'm excited yet- it's kind of far away, which is a bit sad. Plus it's going to be really cold. But, they have a nice library...? And I'll finally get my chance to eat poutine.
Ok, art is kind of progressing slowly...
Art List

Need to scan/photograph:
Cave drawing
Recital thing
Seminar drawings (More illustrations! Yay!)
Beauty and the Beast painting
Funky Rose hat of randomness!
Immune System cartoon

Need to finish:
CCBC poster
Kelpie

Just forget about:
Dawn goddess picture- it's so sad, but there's no rescuing it at this point. It's just so screwed up in the inking that there's no point in trying to make it look good. Her stupid face got all messed up. Oh well.

Things to keep in the works:
Door project
CCBC extended comic

Ok, gotta go study Calc. Yay!

Heard back from many colleges- only one audition to go, and lots of decisions to make. Anyway, it's been an interesting process.

Art Update:

Pieces in progress:
Kelpie - still working on this one. I basically have to add some detailing stuff, then it's done!
CCBC Poster - pencilled (finally) but I need to transfer the rough sketch to the good paper, ink, color, etc
Mucha-like dawn goddess- eventually watercolored this and hated it, so I dunno if it's really worth rescuing at this point
Door Project - Started brainstorming (already, even though this thing is due in May!)

Stuff that needs to be photographed/scanned:
Little Shop Poster
Beauty and the Beast painting
Funny-lookin' Rose Hat

University of Michigan (College of Arts and Sciences) accepted me today, which is happy. However, what remains to be seen: Can I make it into their music school?
However, I am now accepted into a college! Hurrah!
Auditions (in general) start for me on the 28th of January- so incredibly soon! Aaah!
Ok, gotta go work on my history paper.

After years of practice, I finally took and passed my driver's test! Hurrah! Much excitement ensues... As for updating, I am working on some pieces- they should be done sometime soon- I've started a series in the style of A. Mucha and Art Nouveau. Yippee! Suggestions of fairy-tale characters/stories which I should illustrate are welcome- my art projects this year are centered around the theme of story-telling. Needless to say, this certainly includes superheroes. Yay!
I finally finished the Courtney Crumrin series- they were awesome.
Now I must go and write papers!

Happy New Year! I promise to do something about the poor state of my gallery very soon. I just got a graphire 6x8 tablet, so I plan to update much more often (at least, in my scraps gallery- I have fun doing really rough sketches and just coloring them in).
Also, if you're the 500th person to view this gallery, please let me know. I'll draw you something, if you want! ^_^
Cheers,

Alright, I have decided to move everything that is old and weird looking to the scraps section, and actually take advantage of these DA properties... ^__^ Yes, I MUST update, because everything in here is suuuuuper old.
Good news is:
I did some sketches of HP people, after I reread 4 of the books. ^___^ My version of Dumbledore is...a lot like Professor Plum. I never saw him as particularly Gandalf-like.
Also, I did a rather cool picture of all the Zodiac signs the other day which I have to color.
And, thanks to Dani and others *coughLaurencough* I am trying to improve my drawings of guys. >_<;; but they all turn out so girly!!
Yes, and now I can draw large cats and wolves too. I've been practicing...
I also got a large sketchbook and a new set of pencils for Xmas, so I should be set!
To do:
-Sketch of Becky's Chara- Eee! I am so excited to do this! ^__^
Catch you later~
