ÂDeath and TaxesÂ is a representational poster of the federal discretionary budget; the amount of money that is spent at the discretion of your elected representatives in Congress. Basically, your federal income taxes. The data is from the President's budget request for 2008. It will be debated, amended, and approved by Congress by October 1st to begin the fiscal year.

The poster provides a uniquely revealing look at our national priorities, that fluctuate yearly, according to the wishes of the President, the power of Congress, and the will of the people. If you pay taxes, then you have paid for a small part of everything in the poster.

4 months of intensive development and it is done. The 2007 Federal Discretionary Budget in all its complex and overwhelming glory.

Many thank to everyone that helped proofread and encouraged me to continue with this project.

This is your federal income taxes at work people. Check your paycheck. You have paid for part of everything in the graph.

This version has so much more data then the 2004 version. Here are some of the changes.

Including:

Percentage changes from last year. Now you can see what programs are supported and what are defunded.

Military Branches are greatly expanded. Personnel, Researchand Development, Procurement, Operations... its all in there.

Global War on Terror funding. 110 Billion and counting folks.

National Debt funding... even though you didnt really want to know.

...well... its almost finished... just a week to go... then off to the printers... but first i need some help!

i need two proofreaders/editors to scrutinize the poster until its bleeding! ... as a reward you will get a copy for free:!: ... including shipping! ... so basically you just have to read over all the text and make sure every thing is spelled right and in its right place... any other suggestions are greatly appreciates... you will also be credited on the website to be [link] ... i must stress that it is manditory that every thing be correct... once its off to the printers then i cant change anything so it has to be prefect right out of the gate.

the first thing i need is for someone to write a simple math program.. in java or html or whatever....

i need to calculate the diameter of a circle whos area is porportional to a large circle with a fixed diamter....

for example lets circle Circle A has a diamter of 1,000 and a area of 785,375. Circle B needs to be %5 of Circle A. Now lets say Circle A has a fixed value of 700. And Circle B has a fixed value 35. What i need to do is be able to to imput the value of a circle into a field and the porgram or equation spits out the diameter it needs to be.

so it would look like this

Input: 75

75 is 10.7% of 700

10.7% of 785,375 is 84,035

the diameter of a circle with an area 84,035 is 327

so 327 is the number im looking for when i input 75.

See! easy math, i just cant code for shit... `yoozer did this for me last tiem and he did it in java i think in a small html file.... but he is no longer around so im reaching out to everyone...

...also i need a meticulous proofreader.... who will also get 50% of a print or a free one....

Well its been over a month... tim eto update my journal.

"COLUMBUS - The head of a company vying to sell voting machines in Ohio told Republicans in a recent fund-raising letter that he is "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."

The Aug. 14 letter from Walden O'Dell, chief executive of Diebold Inc. - who has become active in the re-election effort of President Bush - prompted Democrats this week to question the propriety of allowing O'Dell's company to calculate votes in the 2004 presidential election.

O'Dell attended a strategy pow-wow with wealthy Bush benefactors - known as Rangers and Pioneers - at the president's Crawford, Texas, ranch earlier this month. The next week, he penned invitations to a $1,000-a-plate fund-raiser to benefit the Ohio Republican Party's federal campaign fund - partially benefiting Bush - at his mansion in the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington.

The letter went out the day before Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, also a Republican, was set to qualify Diebold as one of three firms eligible to sell upgraded electronic voting machines to Ohio counties in time for the 2004 election.

We have another bumper crop of polls today, 50 in all. Since Sept. 1, the total number of polls in the Polling data file is 937. Toss in another 252 polls from May 24 to Aug. 31 and we have the most studied election in the history of the world. And what's the conclusion? Nobody knows. If we just look at the most recent poll in every state, John Kerry will be elected the 44th President of the United States tomorrow with 298 votes in the electoral college vs. 231 for George Bush, with New Mexico and New Hampshire exact ties. However, even if Bush carries both of these states, Kerry still wins 298 to 240. But again, a caution is in order, Kerry's margin is razor thin in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio. Pennsylvania will probably go to Kerry. Ohio is more iffy. Bush won it in 2000 and stands a decent chance of winning it in 2004 although he trails by 2% using the average of the Zogby and Gallup polls taken Oct. 28-31. Thus after 4 years of campaigning, more money spent on attack ads than the gross national product of small countries, and an exhausted electorate, what do we have? In the immortal words of Yogi Berra: "It's deja vu all over again." The whole thing comes down to Florida where Kerry currently holds a tenuous 48% to 47% lead according to the most recent poll, from Zogby. The reality is that everything depends on turnout, how many voting machines fail, and how much monkey business happens. Oh, yeah. And there are those 10,000 lawyers ready to do what lawyers are trained to do--file lawsuits.

If Bush picks up Florida and the two states that are tied (NH and NV), then Kerry wins 271 to 267, the same margin Gore should have lost by last time. Actually, he lost 271 to 266 because one Gore elector from D.C., Barbara Lett-Simmons cast a blank ballot in protest of D.C.'s not having representation in Congress. It could be a long night, especially if Bush picks up either Florida or Ohio and a couple of small Kerry states in the East or Midwest, so everything depends on New Mexico.

As I have discussed repeatedly, normally people with a cell phone but no landline are not polled. Most of these are in the 18-29 year old group. Up until now, no one has known how their absence from the polling data might affect the results. Zogby has now conducted a very large (N = 6039) poll exclusively on cell phones using SMS messaging to get a feeling of how they will vote. The results are that they go strongly for Kerry, 55% to 40%, with a margin of error of only 1.2%. If they all vote tomorrow, the pollsters are going to spend the rest of the week wiping egg from their faces. But historically, younger voters have a miserable turnout record, so the pollsters need not yet stock up on paper towels.

Here are some things to remember about voting. Read carefully. Your vote could decide this election.
Find out today where your polling place is by calling your county clerk or checking [link]
Alternatively, call 1-866-MYVOTE1 to find your polling place.
Check the hours the polls are open with your city or county clerk.
Print the League of Women Voters' card in English or Spanish and put it in your wallet or purse.
Bring a government-issued picture ID like a driver's license or passport when you vote. Some states require it but if there are problems, you will certainly need it. If you have a cell phone, take it to call for help if need be.
As you enter the polls, note if there is an Election Protection person outside the polling place.
If you are not listed as a registered voter, try to register on the spot. Some states allow that. Otherwise, talk to the Election Protection person if there is one or call 1-866-OUR-VOTE for instructions. If neither of these helps, ask for a provisional ballot, but you will need a picture ID to get one.

check out this work of art, and the latest addition to my rig

the Vestax PMC37-PRO ... now discontinued. The only mixer with matrix inputs + infinite EQ cuts + adjustable crossfader. Basically, it kicks ass. I will do some modding of the crossfader, perhaps replace it with a P&G, and trim up the cut in times. I should have it in a few days.

Next on the list is a PVDJ Grabber and a Shure M447 cart for my spare tech1200's. Then im good.

~ExitDust and i have been comming up with some great stuff, music wise. Ill post audio if i ever get around to it.

Everything else:

Im still looking for locations for the new restaurant. I should have a lease by Jan 1st - Feb 1st .... then is time to go up there build it out, open it up, and make millions.

I am also loving my lover like mad. I hear her voice today... it was the first thing i heard this morning (besides my alarm clock (which plays Amon Tobin - Slowly to wake me up)) and it was beautiful. I can't believe a boy such as myself has a girl of such brilliance by his side. This girl can do anything, and do it well. She operates in unchartalbe states of emotion and sometimes she lets me join her. She is a total saturation of color. Which is why she uses color so well. And she loves me to the full extent of the human heart. That is why i love her. Did i mention she is drop dead gorgeous? ...im one lucky boy.

Damn im busy.

Managing one restaurant 50 hours a week, and trying to get another one off the ground in another state. Myself and ~ExitDust are planning on porting the succesful business model (read: ripoff) of the current restaurant i manage and using it in another restaurant in Burlington, VT. Only the new restaurant will be free from corporate franchise restrictions so we can definetly add the funk. The main obstacle now is getting real estate on the most expensive street in Vermont, around $35/sqft. The money isnt the issue, however leases come and go like full lunar eclipes. But we will see. Im excited. Texas blows.

Myself and ~ExitDust have been getting some time to practise lately, which is good, because we are also trying to get this band of the ground. But we need some equiptment to really make forward progress. Namely...

ive been working a lot. 50-60 hours a week ...usually till 4am. but thats what you have to do when you manage a restaurant...

it looks like i will be moving back to burlington, vermont.... to open another restaurant... only this time i will be part owners with ~ExitDust ...then i can pay people do manage it while i sit on DA all day! ...muhahah...

burlington rocks .... i just hope i can find some commecial space on the church street market place ... <-- the best real estate in vermont.

this leaves me with little time to do other things, like love my lover. i miss *wicked-eve like phantoms miss their human limbs. like raindrops miss the their vapor bretheren. like shadows miss sunsets.

yes im back.

two weeks ago i had never seen the woman of my dreams in person. now i have.

after more than a year of long distance romancing, *wicked-eve and i finally got together. i had high hopes that things would just be perfect, a bond would be there.

but it was so much better than that. i geuss that is to be expected from two people who are madly in love with each other.

i can't say enough about *wicked-eve ... she is simply amazing.... everything i want and need...

compassionate with an endless amount of love.

great sense of humor with a smile forcing laugh.

THE SUPERDEVIATION IS HERE

After a year in the making... researching, number crunching, layouts, stock gathering, and lots of procrastinating, i am proud to say it is finally done. I think i went blinding scanning page after page of DoD .pdf files... ugh.

the SUPERDEVIATION, or "spot" as it was known to some, comes now with the final title.

Death and Taxes: A visual look at where your tax dollars go.

Most people are unaware of how much of their taxes fund our military, and those aware are often misinformed. Well here it is. Laid out, easy to read and compare.
With data straight from the White House.

I hope this makes people think and ask questions.

Why do we spend more on jets than we do on public housing?
Why is the Endowment for the Arts so small?
Whats with all this foreign military financing?

Im sure you can come up with numerous questions of your own. Unfortunately i dont have any answers. Our leaders do. Your president, his cabinet and your congress person have these answers. Ask them for the answers or better yet, demand them.

And Dont get mad at me!! these are just the facts ma'am!

The version submitted to DA is 3500x2333 and is 1.8 megsg
I have provided a larger version so you can see all of the details.

Well my "beast" is finally done.

After a few weeks of putting this fella together organ by organ i can now show him off.
The print which now available [link] will really show off the detail, since i had to submit the deviation as 1/2 the original size.

Well... the results from more test on my mom, ~annaleecourt came back. She has a brain tumor. but the good news is that its 99% benign. but it is growing so they will need to operate this winter. i am very glad this situation didnt turn out worse than it did. i wont lose my mom.

my mom, and fellow deviant ~annaleecourt had a brain aneurism or stroke the other day and fell from the 2nd story to the 1st in the garage and hit her head. she is currently in critical care but hopefully will be moved to intensive care soon. they did some brain tests and determined there was no more bleeding, which is good. from what i hear, she should be out of the hospital in 2 to 3 weeks. this is the first time i have had any sort of life and death experience with my mom and it is quite scary, although i am comfident she will come out of this ok. she really means the world to me and is by far the most influential and important person in my life.

At last... i have waited years for this moment. the NBC hit show Friends will no longer be making new episodes. Thats right...it looks like its run of horrible sarcastic non-humor is over. This is a grand day for comedy indeed.

I have no doubt a suitably wretched sitcom will take Friends' place in our collective TV hearts. But hopefully it wont reach the zenith of talentless humor that Friends did.

my massive political project that is going to fucking own! ...its going to be a print which is why its 12,000 pxls by 8,000 pxls .... 4000 DPI... i spare nothing... now with my new comp AMD 2600, 1024 DDR ram i can finish it up... im shooting for about 6 days if i put the hours in... i have to give props to ~punky-o for keeping the pressure on me to finish it up and to ` klynx for all the technical assistance.... i had to up my page file to 3 gigs before i could open the damn PSD...

I live with Diablo.

He sleeps two doors down from me. Diablo isnt his real name. His real name is Juan Carlos. But everyone calls him Diablo, its his gang name. Ya know, gang, like Latin Kings. He is in the Latin Kings. He has four kids with four women. Three of them are named Juan Carlos, and the girl is named Adrienne. Diablo is 19. He has been in jail for 6 months for trafficing cocaine. In his spare time he likes to steal motorcycles and race his tricked out Toyota Supra. He's been in 12 accidents in 12 months. He likes guns. He once shot a guy in the head with a shotgun, point blank. The guy lived, he was lucky.

Diablo and I get along great. He doesnt speak english very well but we can understand each other. He is really just a big teddy bear and really nice guy. He only drinks tequila and heineken. We're friends.

i live in an apartment with 5 other people. i live with my boss, his boss, and his boss. and another kid. i work in a restaurant called antonios that sells pizza by the slice. thats why im here, to work and to work hard, which is what im doing. the restaurant is doing well and getting better everyday. we will be putting the neighboring food chains out of business in no time.

Texas is.... well... its texas. the kids here... all 45,000 of them are a collection of texas stereotypes. cowboys, southern bells, you name it. it really is a polar opposite from where i lived in vermont and massachusettes... conservative. conservative. conservative. me and ~ ExitDust accidently stumbled into the George Bush Library the other day... apparently its not an actual library. the college here is Texas A&M and the only thing bigger than school pride here is jesus... and even thats debatable. out of a random 10 people you can count 15 peices of clothing that say A&M on it. easy.

lots of pickup truck, lots of jesus. welcome to texas. i should be here for about eight months.

i have a few deviations comming up... two prose peices...one called Adiction and one called Abduction... still waiting on a screenshot tho... my computer is not up so everything i do on the net is from a campus computer lab. yay.

im finally moving.

tomorrow, sunday, ~ExitDust (my best friend) and i will be loading up the uhaul and driving to vermont, then to texas. 2,000 miles or so. we will be opening up a restaurant down there in college station about a block from Texas A&M. man... im going to be busy as i know the restaurant will take off if we even have half the success it does in massachusettes... so i suppose this means i will be offline for a few days while im driving cross country...and away from DA ... ... oh well i can be reached on me cell at 207.664.4132... damn this is going to be fun

[link] FC Kahuna - Hayling ...i first came across this tune while watching the extra features on the Confidence DVD... let me just say that the video for this song is one of the most amazing videos i have every seen... simply gorgeous, and it fits this song to a Tee... i strongly suggest you all rent the Confidence DVD just to see this video... the song is lovely aswell... droning melody and a simple and powerful lyric... just one lyric in this song... over and over again... mmm... makes me think of her and how much i want her to be happy

and so to pass the time, i will be submitting some graphic pieces i did for Artpolitic what were not good enough to be included in their next release on Body Modification. i'll let you be the judge... i just hope that AP doesnt release another utterly predictable release... so many good artists, so little enthusiasm.... such a waste of innovation. no matter, i hope they bounce back from their current state of irrelevance.

well i havent gotten as much done lately but i plan to put in about 15 hours over the next few days as i have some time to my lonesome. expect a title in the next few days.

the restaurant will be opening in College Station on nov 17th. just in time for the UT vs A&M football game, which is as important as the second comming of christ in that part of the country. so i will probably be leaving Massachusettes on nov 12th and driving down.

i live in a motel room in chicopee massachusettes with ~ExitDust ....we have one room, two beds, and half a kitchen.... i will be here for two weels.... i do have cable interweb and this is good....

im still working on the SUPERDEVIATION ...it took about 15 minutes to load the .PSD on my crappy computer, but i managed to raster 80% of it so it is still workable... it should be finished in about 8 days....

but its comming along. i am making good progress with the typo and arranging which is the most important part. after i finish that part and raster about 700 layers, the .psd should be a bit easier to work with. right now it takes 30 seconds to render two words of text, but no matter. the fun part is comming soon.

my next major hurdle is finding out how best to display this 12000x8000 pixel deviation. the predominate text is 8 point so sizing down might become a problem. hopefull i can get the final jpeg or gif under 1 meg. but that is looking iffy right now.

ive just got to keep plugging away and finish it before i leave in two days.

but i will talk about my SUPERDEVIATION. been working on it for weeks. i have to finish it by the 19 because i doubt my other computer will be able to handle something of its size. i managed to trim it down from 1/2 billion pixels to 1/4 billion pixels but its still an absolute pain in the ass to work with.

after conferring with %achfoo, % yachtclub, and %musicinmyhead i think i finally solved the "print" problem. i created a draft jpeg and uploaded to ~ onederlnd's server. it was 3 megs. i asked a few people to try to view it but it crashed all their computers. so i have another problem of file size i have to deal with. but im putting that off until the end. basically i just have to get cracking on the design and such.

Drum Programming. you know it and love it. here are two examples of first rate drum programming.

[link] DJ Shadow - High Noon ...one of the first things Shadow released, originally as a CD single sometime before 1994 and then again on Preemptive Strike in 1997. while there are numerous songs that showcase Shadows programming this one really represents. upbeat and disjointed, this mastery produced on the MPC2000 showed the music world that you didnt need to be a drummer to drum solo.

[link] RJD2 - I Really Like Your Def Jux Baby Tee ...since Shadow numerous people have tried to emulate Shadows virtuosity with drum smaples. all have failed. until RJD2. this kid is incredible. resident producer for Dej Jux, his first album Deadringer rivals any of Shadows LP's in talent (and blows Private Pressout of the fucking water.) this song hits like a staccato prize fighter. RJD2 doesnt emulate a real drummer here as Shadow often does, as you can tell when it sounds like his sampler falls down a flight of stairs 45 seconds into the track. the beat is dense and laced with 1/32 notes and awry time signatures. and then the cymbals come in. slowly at first and then like a rhinoceros charging through a Philharmonic. lovely.
