A: Because I do not support censorship or self-censorship in any form. It is, of course, DA's right to require that some images be flagged 'mature' or not, it's their site and they can make the rules for it. In the past, I had problems where people would complain to DA admins that an image was inappropriate -- at one point someone apparently complained about an abstract fiberglass mannequin being "nude":

The "shoot stock" tutorial has a number of illustrations of the kind of set-ups I use for lighting, as well as pictures of my studio.

Today I posted another tutorial on "photographic lighting". It's a workthrough of experiments with lights ranging my my expensive pro studio flash pack to some $55 light heads I bought on Ebay. In it, I try to demonstrate the way I like to think about photography; a synthesis of intuitive play and methodical trial-and-error by varying a single parameter.

There are no buttocks in this image. Only fiberglass. There are no nipples, no pubes, no guns, no blood, no death, no pain, nothing but FIBERGLASS.

If you go to any major department store in almost any part of the world, you will find fiberglass mannequins like this. Sometimes they are wearing bikinis, sometimes lingerie, and - sometimes - if you happen to catch the staff setting up a new display - they are "naked" like this. And nobody freaks out because it is a FIBERGLASS DOLL.

I am utterly, totally, thorougly sick and tired of people who seem to think that the world should be free of anything that offends them. I'm going to process the rest of the entries and link them to pages like the rest.
There are bound to be a few duplicates. That will neither advantage nor penalize an entry. Any duplicates will be assumed to be my mistake.
Then I'm going to pick the 10 I like the best, and turn my judges loose on them to pick the final winners.

Right now I have 347 notes in my inbox and have gotten about a dozen Emails. Don't worry if you don't see your artwork up on the entries pages, yet - if you've sent me a note with a link to your image, then you're OK.

I have gotten notes from people who forgot to send me their links or emails without people's links or DA names. If I can't figure out what your submission is, I'll disqualify you for failure to follow directions.

Many of you have noticed that at full size my images have a certain softness to them. That's because my camera (A Fuji S3) has an interpolative mode at full-size. It's not really a 12 megapixel sensor - it's a 6 megapixel sensor that has an additional sensor for luminance. Anyhow...  I just got a new camera - a Canon 5d with a really good L-series lens. So when I start posting stock shot with that, you should see a visible improvement in the sharpness and detail of my images.

If you're leaving me a "I used your stock" message you're best off doing it as a personal note. That way they stay in my in-box - a lot of you have left me a link in a tag and my tag-list is just going off the screen. :( If you leave me a note it's much easier to make sure I see it and check out your work.

I just completed two amazing sets of shoots - one with Zinn (who did not consent to be used for stock: sorry!) and the other with Amber Gangi and Candace Nirvana. I shot a ton of great stuff of them in pre-raphaelite kind of poses and a few of them as gunslinger/vampire hunter japanese schoolgirls. They were great fun to work with, and the pictures look wonderful. I'll be posting some of that soon. Unfortunately, it was rainy and muddy and the horses were wet and muddy so we didn't get any barbarian warrior shots done. Huge bummer! I have been overwhelmed at the response to my stock. A thousand apologies if I am not able to reply to each of your messages in detail. I'm a consultant and I travel a lot so I am intermittently unavailable. It's a bit daunting to log into DA and have 300 messages but that's becoming typical.
