okay, i was looking at a DD yesterday by *lahree , and i found ann kullberg's e-magazine for coloured pencil. on the site ([link]) there are galleries of member drawings for the annual magazine contest.

i found this drawing (which won best of show in the 2005 show):
[link]

that's right.. it's ALL COLOURED PENCIL.

so i looked him up on yahoo and i found these drawings too (from the cpsa website [link])

[link]
and
[link]

the last two are nicely done, but nowhere near as impressive as the first drawing. that one is only about 15" by 20"...

anyway, that was super inspiring! i hope i see more of his work!

EDIT: found some more of his work:

yesterday, i moved out of res and back to toronto.

and so marks the end of the first eight months of post-secondary! i'm very proud of myself for having gotten through this year, because it's the most work i've ever had to do. granted i still had time every night to do about 2h of extra life drawing, and talk on the phone to stefan, but it was still work work work during the day.

the first semester i had A+, A, A, A, A, B.. this time around that B in lifedrawing has turned into an A, and my film history mark is an A+ (as opposed to composition and rhetoric last semester).. my anthro mark i think is on the brink of an A.. but we'll wait and see. i am so jealous of sarah (she got four A+'s last semester) but i admire her so much!! she's my role model; i'm going to push myself to try to get as many A+'s as i can

during the month of may i am going to brian hladin's life drawing class every saturday, so that should be fun.. learning lots of new things there. otherwise i'm going to keep my lifedrawing up at TSA (hope the models are good there). i also got the job as a camp counsellor at my old high school (UCC) and so i'll be busy from the end of june to the end of august!!

this coming week is filled with things to do (which is more than i can say for the weeks following):

wednesday i'm seeing wicked with stefan
thursday or friday i'm going to UCC to see their IB2 art exhibition.. i know the people who are in that show so i'm really excited to see what they have done in the past two years.
saturday is my birthday (i'll be turning 19) so stefan will take me bar-hopping (i hope i dont get too shitfaced)
then sunday i'm going to see the interpreter with steffie.

i'll also try to finish that stupid "new piece" that i started last summer. there is something i want to change but i might be too far into it to do so.. i'll have to look and it again and see. otherwise i have an idea for another piece, although i'm sure i would like to do it in coloured pencil anymore.

there are lots of wonderful people i've met this year, and it's so great to be out of UCC (i've been with the same people there for like 8 years).. what does suck though it that for the next three years i am not going to see any new faces in my own grade.. but thats okay, since we are switching our groups i will make more friends (and probably more enemies too :S LOL).

i congratulate everyone else who has gotten through their school year, and i hope everyone has a fun and safe summer! keep drawing!

yay, december break has finally arrived

this was an interesting first semester at sheridan animation, to say the least.. so strange to be in a totally new environment after having been at the same highschool for 8 years straight. good thing my class has some very nice people in it. people in the program are very talented for the most part, although it's pretty clear sheridan could've weeded out more people.. but since they're getting greedy the standards of the program seem to be going down. blah. let's hope the rumour is true that they'll cut a lot of people from first to second year.

the workload has been pretty tough, but up until the last week of this semester i havent had to work on a single friday or saturday, and i've gotten at least 6 hours of sleep every night. other people have been pulling allnighters regularly and are stumped when they find out that i am an all-nighter virgin

the last week though, man.. i had to work through friday night and saturday, and on sunday, monday, and tuesday nights i had to stay up until 5am to 6am to finish off homework. but the way things worked out, i still got 6 hours of sleep every night due to class cancellations.

oh yeah.. and for the past 2 or 3 weeks i haven't gone to a single extra life session.. which is so foreign to me. i've been extralifing like mad and it's great, i love it. my figure drawing has improved a lot, in my opinion, which is great, but i've still got so so much to learn. at least my teacher was really happy with my portfolio (he gave me a B). next semester i'll try to improve to a B+ and my goal for the end of the year is to be very close to an A.

so i'm back in toronto after having been in oakville the past few weeks.. and it's so good to ride the subway and see yonge street downtown again. oakville is so.. well... not like i had any time to go out anyway, right? thats good i suppose.. because there really isnt much to do there.

i hope everyone enjoys their holidays, and congratulations to those of you who have finished your very first semester in postsecondary. have a safe holiday and happy new year!

Here's a game i played at a party last friday.

Whoever starts the game (designated The Starter) has the say the following poem's first line, then other players must repeat it correctly in turns. every time someone gets it wrong, he/she has to drink, then try again until he/she gets it right. when all other players have gotten it right, the Starter says the same thing, but adds the next line, and the other players try to recite the two lines, and so on, until all 8 lines have been said. most people can't get past lines 6 and 7.

one red hen,
a couple of ducks,
three brown bears,
four running hares,
five fat females sitting on a fence,
six seasick sailors sailing the seven seas,
seven, i slit the sheets, the sheets i slit, upon the slitted sheets i sit,
eight nickels, nuts, and dimes.

the last line is so easy because everyone gets trashed by the sixth or seventh lines

art supplies are so expensive too.. even after you buy them at curry's for supposed discounted prices. i had to buy a 40-pack of 40-sheet newsprint pads.. that made for some heavy lifting.

my student ID card picture is actually nice!! yay!

i went white water rafting this weekend on the ottawa river. went with my brother, his fiancee and a bunch of his friends. we had 12 people, which fit one raft.. and we were 100% asian

it was a good weekend.. even though sleeping was a bit of a problem. stupid drunk college people partying until 2 in the morning. and then this bunch of 30-somethings setting off firecrackers at 2am as well :@

if i had to have been there for a third night i mightve gotten pissed off.. its so annoying when you cant sleep becuase of other stupid people.

whitewater rafting is so fun, but next time i go i hope it'll be with a bunch of people i know and around my age. i didnt know anyone on this trip other than my brother, his fiancee and one of his friends.
ps. the piece i'm working on i had wanted to finish by the end of august before school starts, but i dont think it'll happen. i'm about 60% done, and i've finished off the most detailed portions of the piece. so it depends on if i have the free time to finish everything off before sept. 5. please be patient though.. this new piece should be worth the wait!

Hey everyone,

so i did some room cleaning a few days ago and i dug up a whole bunch of old sketches. most of them are from 2001 and 2002, i think. i used to doodle a lot and draw fashion sketches. i sometimes still do.

there are 11 new additions to the scraps gallery; i hope you take the time to look at them and i hope you enjoy them

ps. there are no new developments on the upcoming painting. it's stuck at 1/3 done.

edit 1: i took the 11 new pieces from the formal gallery and placed them into scraps.
edit 2: i worked on the upcoming piece for about two and a half hours today. coming along nicely.

hey everyone

i got back from montreal two nights ago. i was there from friday to monday. it was alright; montreal isn't my favourite city.

i went for the first time to mont tremblant, but i didn't really do much there.. it's cool that it's like a mini-disneyworld. the weather was absolutely gorgeous though!

i got a chance to visit old montreal (downtown) as well as do some shopping on st. catherine. i didn't buy anything on st. catherine, but i did buy a tie and a belt from another mall. i'd like to think that by adding the two prices together and dividing them by two i get a reasonable price for each: the tie was (gulp) 140$, but the belt was 10$. so... yeah. i loved the tie way too much to pass it up, and the belt was just damn snazzy, and at 10$ it was a steal.

i went to montreal by Via rail. i had 1200$ worth of via rail coupons i won from the canada day poster challenge (you can see the winning poster in my gallery--it's the one with all the bright colours!), and for this montreal trip for 3 (my parents and i--my brother and his fiancée came by car) cost a little less than 600$...but thats only for the transportation. we had to pay for hotel and everything else. oh well.. i sure as hell wouldn't just throw away 1200$.

for the remaining 600$ i might be going to new york for a weekend with a parent or both (seeing how costs add up) to see Phantom of the Opera and maybe Rent as well.

i haven't worked on the new piece of art since i last posted a journal saying i was 22 hours in.. but i plan on starting soon, maybe today.

i hope everyone is enjoying their summer
cheers,

so it's been about a week and a half, and i've managed to finish off about a third of the piece. it's taken twenty-two hours to do 12 woodplanks. that's exactly as tedious as it sounds.

my aim is to finish it off by the end of this month. but realistically i think it'll be done around the beginning of august.

hope everyone is having a good and sunny summer

hey everyone,

i started a new piece of art last night, and have been working on it all day today. i've spent about 8 hours on it so far and i've finished a little less than a quarter. it should be finished fairly soon; i'll get a photo of the finished piece as soon as i can. i'm thinking this piece will take about 40 hours, maybe a bit more... that's more or less on track with my other works.

hopefully i come up with a idea for another piece before i finished this one so i can start on the next one right away.

cheers,
Just thought that some people would be curious to see them.

last night i had the chance to check out charles ross's "one-man lord of the rings" at the toronto fringe festival. it was insane. i tried to go on thursday night but there was a lineup for tickets and i couldnt get any. last night, tickets for the 7pm show sold out at 3.30pm (even though the rule is that the tickets are supposed to go on-sale only an hour before showtime--but they had a big line-up even at 3.30), but lucky for me they added a show at 11.30 that night, so i got tickets to that.

the show is completely worth it. ross does the entire 9 hours' worth of "lord of the rings" movies in 60 minutes. his characters were for the most part very spot-on, especially his gollum and samwise. laughed my ass off.

i'm not a huge lord of the rings fan (i've only seen the movies, and haven't read the books), so some parts were a little tougher to follow (he recreates scenes from the movies). either way, it was a great show and he adds a lot of his own smartass humour.

his website is [link] (he did a one-man star wars two years ago at the fringe) and he is having shows throughout canada at fringe fests. check his show schedule to see if he's playing anywhere near you.

my friend Alex (username Kyre) introduced me to this website. i have one of my own on geocities but i bet it doesn't get as many hits as I do on here! i'm very grateful that this is an art community where i can share my artwork with others.

i have graduated high school and i'm off to sheridan college in oakville in the fall for their bachelor in animation. should be a fun ride.

since i hear that that program is insane in terms of workload, i am taking some time this summer to do a bit of art. hopefully i'll get 2 or 3 pieces done by the end of the holiday.

thank you to all for the comments and favourite-addings i really, really appreciate them.
