[link]
This is a new gallery for me. I was called on Friday by Pam Moody. She is the artist an owner of this eclectic gallery. She found me and my etsy website from the PAVA website. I guess PAVA was good for something after all. I left about 2 dozen pieces with Pam to display both at her gallery as well as the Hard Rock store in Tampa. Hopefully, with the traffic that store sees, my pieces will move, and perhaps, more importantly, I earn a reputation. Getting my name out there is the key to collectors. Time will tell...

Skin City: The art of the tattoo starts on October 12th and runs thru December 31st. Again my works will be exhibited in the galley shop, not the show. It hopefully will embellish some of the fine works there. This dish took about 2 months of work and I loved every moment of it. I hope you can make the show. There should be some awesome artists represented there. The dish is large so it was difficult to capture its essence in one photo. So several will have to do. Enjoy!

Recently, I had a chance to explore the Art Center in downtown St Pete. Its a vibrant gallery and store displaying many of the local artists works. I brought my portfolio in to see if they might be intersted in my kind of art. I believe they enjoyed my slant on art and asked me if I could submit some works to "The Skin Show" in October. The artwork would be in the gallery shop at the time of the traveling show. The plan is to create art with a tattoo theme, which is what I started with my tattoo car. Currently I am working on a large bamboo dish 26.5" in diameter. It is 2/3 done and I will post photos upon completion. When it's finished I will start to churn out more spools for the show as well. I will let you know dates and times and the address as soon as my works are up for display

Believe me when I tell you there is ample music on that thing to keep me humming for days and days. However early mornings I prefer talk and entertainment and this is where the comedy podcast Distorted View comes in. The host, Tim Henson, is a funny guy. His podcast is twisted, no doubt. But he does reflect more fact than fiction and makes his listeners think about things that.. well pehaps they just should'nt. I currently have an ebay auction of yet another purse that I will donate half the proceeds to Tim to help him with his podcast. I am including as a bonus season 1&2 DVD's of Arrested Development.
There is a Munny Contest coming up at Uberbot in Winter Park, so this will be my next project. Take a look at the auction homies and bid if you like...Here's the link:

After this 50+ hour purse, its time to work smaller. I will start another spool tomorrow and after that possibly canvas again. I have an idea for a painting that I have not seen before. So I will attempt to actually paint on a canvas instead of wood for the first time in like 20 years. How refreshing... I always new I would be painting once I retire, but if I don't start now, the learning curve will be too extreme. I currently have my newest purse on ebay, but I doubt it will hit my reserve. Thanx to everyone for all their kind words and encoragement. It really means alot even for an old geezer like me

Ok. Now I have been switching off between wooden purses and wooden spools as a ways of getting my art into a more portable media. I sold my first wooden purse in October on ebay for about $130.00 so I know there are some individuals out there who think my art is worthy of owning and possibly showing off. The spools I am currently displaying encorporate wooden dowels and sculpy and wire and cute lil plastic hands. Not trying to sell them just yet. I am trying to use more clay to encourage my 3D creativeness out of my left hemisphere. Bic is almost a year old and it's possible they may ask me to work as a full time artist instead of just supporting the art dept. We will see how it goes. Still very very happy doing what I do and who could ask for anything more??

Robert Crumb's painted spools were brought to the attention of the world in the Terry Zwigoff film of 1994. The camera only panned on them for about a minute but it left a lasting impression on me. Born in 1955, I have fond memories of these old friends leftover from my grandmother's sewing tools. I have never considered myself a "craftsman" prefering the artist label. But it is all the same. I want my drawings to have life, to amuse, to interact. Spools allow me to do just that. Not too many other artists doing this. When I list my spools on Ebay, I have people constantly ask who made the spools. Tell me, if they were Crumbs's would I be selling them for under $20.00?? As I produce more of these little gems, I will post them here. Life at Bic is still good. I have been told that at the end of my 1st 12 months I may be offered a full time artist position...Stay tuned

Perhaps all my wishing and hard work has finally paid off and I will finally work a job that is not customer service related!!! Well the bad news is I wont be inspired to write stinky cheese comix anymore, but the good news is I will practice my craft on a daily basis. I will go home with a smile on my face. I will face the challenge of learning things that actually improve not impair my personality. Some times life sucks... This is not one of those times
