Still working on arts, but slowly. Had a slew of trouble with hospital visits and stuff in January, so my work has progressed slower than usual. New stuff is incoming though I won't be posting my editwork here anymore since dA has apparently decided to arbitrarily remove random edits. Whee. Will still pose the stock-pose-based stuff and other things Moonish. Some things have come to my attention that make me a little bit sad for the dA art community as it stands right now. I see people left and right who scream the "OMG FANART IS BAD AND YOU'RE A WHORE AND A SELLOUT IF YOU DRAW IT", or "ANIME/MANGA IS NOT ART LEARN TO DRAW REALISM", or say any other number of things.

My question to you folks is thus:

Why have you taken upon yourself to try and change how people express themselves? Not all drawings may be art, and I am more than willing to concede that there is probably a large percentage of the populace that doesn't like what *I* do, for example, but it's how I choose to express myself. It doesn't hurt anyone. Why are you making it your mission in life to try and get people to conform to your views?

What difference will it make? How many times will someone have to tell you that they do what they do because they enjoy it for you to understand that your way is not necessarily their way?

I'm trying to be polite here, when this is really kind of a sensitive topic to me. I just don't understand why you feel that your view has to be right?

Also, call me a fanart whore, a sellout, whatever you want. I do what I enjoy. I enjoy taking commissions to draw and create for my friends. I enjoy using an anime/manga styling to do so. I am not going to change this because some people don't like it. As far as I am concerned, they can look elsewhere for precious realism. I will be taking art classes when I can afford to, so realism will be on my list of things to learn. But for now, I do what I enjoy. That's what most of us do, and wish to be allowed to do in peace. Please, try to respect the differences. I wouldn't dream of bashing your work (if I had seen it, since I have not, I am merely hypothesizing), or anyone else's just because it was different from mine. Critiques that simply -tell- people to stop drawing in one style or another do nothing but make people angry at you. There's no real help in it. No one is going to say "Gee, you're right! Anime sucks. I never would have noticed if you hadn't pointed out where all the flaws in my drawings are!" It doesn't work like that.

As I said before, all I would like to see is some mutual respect. Realism, impressionism, etc. So many art forms all with their places, even anime/manga can be a beautiful art form. Everyone deserves a bit of fundamental respect. That's all.
