I had spent a lot of time putting together a pattern to make ponies from My Little Pony. (Check it out! http://www.etsy.com/shop/munchforlunch) There were no commercially available patterns, and the few free patterns available had obvious flaws.  Based on what I observed with Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon, a market was there. I bought a Brother SE400 combo sewing/embroidery machine, based on a lot of reviews and some recommendations.  So far I am enjoying it very much!  I've never used anything but older, simpler machines, so many of its features amaze me.  I'm currently trying to figure out how to make my own embroidery designs so I can improve my plushies even more.

What is the difference?  There's minky, minky fleece, cuddle minky, single and double sided minky...  Does anyone have personal experience in the differences?  What seems to be the popular choice?  Is there a particular vendor you like and/or has good prices and selection?

I really want a new sewing machine.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a relatively simple machine that isn't super expensive, but is really sturdy and will last?  Also, I'm really starting to wish I had embroidery abilities, but most of the embroidery machines seem to be in the $2000 range.  Anyone with suggestions?
