I'm going to talk with someone over at MCI (Medical Careers Institute) about becoming a registered nurse. Pretty exciting I think. I won't be giving up my art though. I have dedicated so much of my life to art, so there is no question about that. I just may not have as much time to work on it when school starts.

The festival went very well and here are some pictures from the trip!

My lovely daughter, Hayley, smiling for the camera.

My best friend, Stephanie, helps her son with some artwork. The arts and crafts for the kids was free! And you can see my daughter again, she is working delicatly on her flower. They got to draw a picture, then use glue with a paintbrush to paint the picture, then used colored sand to pour on it and make it pretty!

I couldn't believe it, when I looked over and saw Princes Leia! Had to get the kids to take a picture with her and the sand? creature. I remember seeing those guys before, just don't remember what they are called. (I want her light sabre)

The first picture here is Stephanie getting her henna tattoo. Yes, this too was FREE! This was so much fun. Mine is shown in the second picture, I had this done on both hands. It looks great and should last 2-3 weeks.

Both Stephanie and I fell in love with this duo. I believe the price was set at $2k. I wish I had money to buy it... but alas.. I do not. Unfortunatly in the busy gallery I forgot to get the name of the artist. *cries* It was a woman and she and her daughter do paintings (that's all I know).

These are also part of their works. Quick snapshots. I wanted to have at least some pictures of the paintings there. Seems most of my attention was on the kids and making sure they didn't touch anything lol.

-------------------

That's it kiddo's!! Hope you like the pictures, I really enjoyed my visit to Halizo and hope to go next year!

I'm feeling a little tired today. Maybe it has something to do with me staying up until 2am last night. My daughter even got to stay up a little longer last night than she usually does and she woke up just as early as normal. All I wanted was to get to sleep in... oh well.

I spent my yesterday cleaning house, hoping to get out to the art's festival. Unfortunatly, I had more to do that I thought. So, because I was able to finish it yesterday, I am going to the festival today. That is, if I can manage to stay awake long enough.

-------------------

Well, I am off to go visit [link] and talk to some of the artists! They are having an arts and crafts festival today in Norfolk, Virginia. If you're in the area you should go check them out and support your local arts and crafters!

Critiques ~It's come to my attention...

... that people comment differently on the artwork they see lately. They don't make constructive critiques to help their fellow artists like they used to. I received several comments to improve my artwork when I first joined DA. Now, all I get is a "wow I really like that" response (not that I don't like that type of response), and if someone doesn't like what I have made, they usually don't comment on it at all (which is also fine). However, I am not just referring to my own work, but the work of everyone here on DA. I am sure there are some people out there who are making good critique comments still, but I rarely see them anymore.

I have seen some good critiques, and some down-right bad ones. Perhaps it's just that people don't know how to critique without seeming to be rude. First off, if the artist has it set to recieve advanced-critique comments, then you have permission to tell the artist what you see as 'off' in their artwork. Just keep in mind these things:

1. Point out something that you like about the artwork first. Talk about why you like it. It's not really fair to just jump into a post with the negative aspects of their artwork. You don't want to appear as though you're only out to make them look bad.

2. Tell the artist what you believe to be wrong or out of place and (this is important) how to correct it. Do not just say, "Oh the eyes look strange to me." and leave it at that. Get descriptive, "Your eyes look good, but they would look better if you made the pupils a little bigger. It would make your figure appear more alive."

3. Add in the rest of the things you like about the artwork and why you like them. If you think they did a good job, let them know!

You need to think of critiquing from both sides. Read over your post before submitting it! Is this what you would be happy with reading if it were directed to you or would you feel offended by reading it? What could you change or add to make it more helpful and friendly rather than just simply a post pointing out mistakes?

The main reason for critiques is to learn. It is good for the artist to have critiques on their own art so they know what to improve on in later pieces, but it is also good for the critiquer. By looking at the artwork endepth, you are training your eye to notice the proportions, color, composition, and other aspects of artwork.. all things that will help you on your own art! If you're unsure how to get your thoughts across about someone else's art, don't forget you can always grab a book for help. There are so many books out there on art, I am sure you can find something to help you get your thoughts across.. and I'll bet you will learn a few new things on the way too.

Well, I am off to go visit [link] and talk to some of the artists!
Around about one year ago I made a jounal entry that went like this:

"When I looked at other people's artwork, I thought "How can they make such beautiful art?" I wanted to create art just like they do. But that's not what art is about.

In fact the worst thing you can do is say to yourself, "I want to be just like somebody else." You have to absorb knowledge from someone else, but ultimately you have to find your own voice."

And I find myself doing what I said not to do. Saying to myself I want to be just like someone else. Here I am reminded that I need to find my own voice. For once, I am taking my own advice.

Stop trying to impress others, do what makes you feel good. Be yourself.

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. I got to spend it with my family. We had a cookout and then all went to the beach where tons of fireworks were being set off. There was even a fire because of someone being careless, it was off in the distance and i bet that fire was huge up close. The grass is so dry in the sand near the homes that one little spark could burn everything in sight. There is a firestation very close to where the fire was so they got there rather quickly. Hope you all have a nice day and thanks for viewing! More art sure to come soon.

There I was in the midst of a wonderful sleep when I hear the cranking of a tractor banking and digging into concrete at 7:30am. It's not the first time they have done this, they have been out there working in front of my house for over a week now, but never had they done this so early. The first time they woke me it was going on 9am which was fine because that's when I normally wake up. Guess I shouldn't really complain, they are just doing their job and I'm sure they can't please everyone's schedual (even if they are practically working right in my front yard). See they are fixing the uplifted concrete sidewalks. Trees over time have pushed up the walkways with their roots. Well, it looks better and I'm sure it's safer too. I just wanted to say... Good Morning!
