I am not dead.

I am just undergoing a medium change.

That is to say....

I'm going for audio more than visual as of late. I've got four original songs worth playing with MY lyrics, and one song my friend wrote lyrics to and I wrote chords to.

As per visual art, I've got extreme artist's block.

I've been thinking lately I need to get back on the horse...

Maybe I will. School's almost out, and I'm going down to Texas. I'll take my scratch equipment with me, I'm sure there'll be something pretty to do down there.

Love you all, smexies!

P.S.... I've got two of my songs up on my Myspace profile. [link]

The first ten people who reply to this journal get put up here, along with three of my favorite deviations by them, then you have to make a featured journal just like this one. And feature other people and link three deviations. And then they have to-- DONE!

Today we took a trip to the AIDS quilt at Bovee University Center. I must say, it was a really eye-opening experience. I don't think it hit me in the way it was intended to, though. I didn't come away with a sense of putting a face to AIDS, or anything like that. To me it was more like, these people caught the diseases mainly by being sexually promiscuous or shooting drugs. Many of them were homosexual, though not all. I don't hold any of that against them. What really hit me was that their families still loved these people, whole-heartedly, unstintingly. To think that you could fuck up your life and catch a disease (by fuck up I mean promiscuity and drugs, not homosexuality) and be forgiven by people you know... and accepted back by them with open arms....

It makes me feel sort of optimistic.

I hope that I have that sort of family, and though I don't plan on testing to see if they're like that, I really hope they are.

I still wanted to go to that Jazz Weekend thing, though... it says weekend, so mayhap I can go on Sunday with my father dear.

On the side concerning dA, I have a few things planned that should be showing up shortly.

Firstly, there's a scratch art half-finished of this ([link]) which I finally put onto board.

Secondly, I recently acquired some packaging pellets from my science teacher. I'm going to paint these colors and create a mosaic with them on cardboard... sort of a fun cheap materials type of thing, you know? This will probably be a landscape, along a horizontal strip of cardboard. I'm excited for it!

Thirdly, I have a half-finished painting up in Port Hope from Christmastime. I may or may not finish this next time I'm up there - as it *is* very Christmas themed - but just giving you the heads-up.

Here are 6 of the weird habits/things about me:

1) I have more friends online than IRL.

2) I hate the taste of coffee.

3) I have really crazy outfits much of the time.

4) I love graffiti'd things! Things I have with graffiti include a shirt, a pair of jeans, my phone, and my shoes. And also my hands and all my school books or folders.

5) The only TV show I religiously watch is House.

6) I've only ever had one sip of an alcoholic beverage in my life, and I nearly spit it out. Champagne is UCKY

My dad's semi-ex-girlfriend (it's complicated.) got me a foldable portable easel for Christmas! Like, a real easel, not one of those plastic kiddie ones! It came with a canvas (already stretched) and oil paints and brushes and a palette. And also Dad got me like five more canvases (also already stretched) so I'm set for a while. I'm so excited to start trying out painting! I'll probably do a Christmas tree first, so that'll be fun.

Okay, I stole this from ~Cerulesta, because I wanted to. And it looked fun. Like her, I'm not going to tag ANYONE, but steal it if you want.

Rules: List 10 things about your art and post it in your journal. Then pick six other deviants to do the same.

1. I don't draw people. Ever.

2. I don't draw trees. Nope!

3. I don't draw cars.... ugh.

4. I DO draw landscapes: grass, water, skies.

5. I also draw architechtural landscapes: a city street, etc.

6. I keep all of the drawings I use for my scratchboard art in the gallery pocket of my art bag, behind the finished art. I have an intention of someday going scan-happy and dumping them all in Scraps. Until then, LOTS of thick-lined drawings cluttering the bag! (thick-lined because I push down hard when transfering the lines to the board)

7. I'm in love with vanishing points. They're SO much fun, and they make drawing a city or something waaaay easier.

8. I never, EVER eat while I'm drawing or scratching. Sometimes I might sip a drink, but more often I just get it all done and then go eat some Cheetos or something.

9. The two things I don't like about doing scratch-art are that when I'm using the exacto, sometimes the grooved grip leaves icky marks on my hand, and that after a lot of scratching I finish the artwork with my hands covered in an icky gray powder - the scratched-off ink from the scratching.

10. I never, EVER do a scratch art in more than one sitting if I can help it. I may take a while with the sketch, but after the sketch is taped to the board and transfered, I'll usually sit/lay in my bed or at my desk and scratch it all at once.

Not tagging anybody. If you want to use it, go ahead.

Well, here it is. I finished my very first scratchboard packet. The question presented to me now is, do I continue with my work? Do I really want to spawn out another 15, or 20, or any number of scratch arts? I would say a definite.... YES. But seeing just printer paper and no blank scratchboard in my scratch art folder made me think. It made me look over my past works and muse about their shortcomings, their strengths, and my talent as a whole. It's shown me what I want to focus on improving and what is already great. And it's also shown me that people don't like to read boring philisophical journals, but here you are reading it anyways, and if you don't read it then you don't get a cookie. So there.

Anyways, I've decided to write a list of every work I've created since I first began scratch art in my art class during the first semester of the year. Some of these I gave away as gifts before I could scan them in, others I've scanned and posted. Some have been put on display, but none of them have been sold -- a mixed blessing, I suppose. I'm also going to do a short summary of each piece - how I felt when I made it, what it's been in, etc.

1. Scratch Art of a Single Tree
First scratch art I did, in my art class. Hasn't been shown.

2. Tulips
Second scratch art I did, on a begged sheet of my art teacher's scratchboard. Given to my mother as a gift.

3. Pineapple Time
Third scratch art I did, also on a sheet of my art teacher's scratchboard. The letters were all meant to be the same font as the W, but I didn't realize how big it was until it was done. Soon to be displayed in our cottage in the Thumb.

4. The Lone Candle
My first scratch art on my own paper. I was amazed at how short it took to make. Shown in ArtWalk 2006, my town.

5. The Mistress and the Rose
My first scratch art that depicted a human being. Shown in ArtWalk 2006.

6. Broadway Street
My favorite scratch art, the first depicting buildings or even daytime. Shown in ArtWalk 2006.

7. Midnight Farming
The first scratch art that expaned to fill the entire sheet, not just within a border or some such. Shown in ArtWalk 2006.

8. Field and Moon
My least favorite scratch art, but for some reason everyone loved it. Shown in ArtWalk 2006.

9. Mask and Carnation
A scratch art with a mask - like the ones that just go over your eyes and nose - that was given to my best friend only a few minutes after its completion. Unscanned, obviously. I gave it to my friend because she loves Phantom of the Opera, and it was very Phantomesque.

10. The Master and the Ring
The second scratch art depicting a human, and the first to complete a pair. Shown in ArtWalk 2006.

11. Tea for Tigger
Created as a gift for a coffee shop owner who is my friend. The first scratch art I gave away to someone outside the family. On display at Fifi's French Press, my town.

12. The Lone Football
A gift for my friend, on his birthday. Unscanned, in the possession of my friend.

13. A Pirate's Life
Created for Puzzle Pirates forums, but never displayed due to lack of a good image host.

14. Port Hope, MI
A gift for my mother, on Mother's Day. Depicting our cabin up in Port Hope. Unscanned, but I may scan in the future.

15. Overwhelmed
My first with water, ships, clouds, and fancy fade-out. Made in Port Hope.

16. View from the Top
My first with mountains. My last piece of scratchboard. Made in Port Hope.

That's as many as I can think of right now, but I'm sure there are more. Uhh... is this too many scratch arts? I *need* feedback here! Anyways, I've improved a lot. I've also invested a total of about, oh, $30 into this. But if you ask ~BobtheWonderLlama, also known as Llama to the Y!PP world, each work of art is worth more than shoes. Well, he said that, but he also said that even if I only put about a dollar or two into each scratch, my time and effort and creativity has a price too. That didn't make much sense to me, though, since the longest one of these has ever taken was Broadway Street, and only because I used a ruler and the vanishing point method to draw the sketch.

Mood: Calm before the storm
Listening to: Matchbox 20 - I'm Not Crazy
Word of the day: Smexy!

Okay, so yesterday we had a half day (only two exams, yo!). And my friend didn't have anywhere to go until about 4:00 (we got out at 10:30) because her mom works at another school in the area as a kindergarten aid, and that school got out at the normal time. And naturally my friend doesn't want to be in the library that entire time -- I mean, how boring?! So she asks me and Rob and Gina and Taylor to accompany her and go hang around downtown for a few hours with her. Downtown is easy because my school is downtown ^_^ So we do, and Steve decides to invite himself to come too... ick. Anyways, first we drop off all our stuff at my house because it's right next to the school. Then we decide we're going to have a water war and go over to Taylor's house and get some balloons. When we come back to my house, I go upstairs and change into my le swimsuit, and we run off to Millpond Park, which is a few blocks away and basically is a bunch of pedestrian/biking trails. When going to Millpond, you pass through Island Park, and they had farmers' market going on, so Joe - who also came along, to the pleasure of absolutely nobody - bought us all honey sticks. After that, we went on to Millpond. w00tw00t. It's pretty sweet, because it's right over the Chippewa River. We end up not being able to find a nozzle to fill up the balloons, so you know what we do? We go swimming in the Chip. It was pretty sweet <3 And the area that Millpond goes around has these man-made semi-dams made of huge rocks and stuff, so there's rapids every 10 yards or so. It's pretty smexy. We got pretty bored just swimming, so pretty soon Steve says, "Hey, Frankie (my friend), want to go down those rapids?" And she was like, "Sure!" And I decided I'd come along because it looked really fun, so we did. And it kicked ass. Majorly. I ended up going down maybe four or five times, and each time... it kicked ass even more. Isn't that just great? Yeah, I thought so too. Eventually we left, because Gina had a cut on her foot, and we went back to my house and band-aided it and then we decided to walk over to Subway and get foods. And I took my bubble mix with me when we went, because it came with a bubble pipe that I had just figured out how to fill up. Gina bought me lunch - because I'm a mooch - and we hung out for a while. I managed to blow about five lovely bubbles while we were in the store, even though my friends kept saying not to. I'm just a rebel, I guess After Subway, we went back to Island Park because Rob had promised to buy me a honey stick... >:-D And then the honey stick stand was closed, so Frankie bought two cucumbers and gave me one. We seriously just sat there eating whole cucumbers. After a while we went to Timber Town, which is like a huge wooden playplace for little kids, and we sat in a pathway-stairwell-thing in the sun and ate the rest of our cucumbers and blew bubbles and talked. By then, Joe had left, and Steve had left too, so it was Gina and Frankie and Rob and me. It was funfun.

So anyways, that was probably the bestest post-exam day ever. And I said calm before the storm in my mood because now I'm SO burned... ow. Please don't touch my upper back and/or shoulders, thanks much... ow ow ow. Stupid shirt.

Edit: Oh! And today is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL WOOT WOOT BOWLING PARTAY WOOT WOOT

Hooray for birthday summaries. My barfday, as Mar Queso would say, was Monday.

So I started the day by going in my parents' room and begging them to let me open my pressie early. Finally they let me, and I openy it. It's a shiny black Creative Zen Nano Plus! 1GB! Yay! I absolutely love it, too. It's pretty-shiny. Mine brother gave me a prettyful Magic deck. 'Tis green! The rest of the day I shoveled horse shit onto our lawn (sorry for profanity, but that's what it is). So there.

And on Tuesday at school we exchanged pressies. My friend ~ginahey had her birthday Tuesday. I'm one day older than you, Gina! Bite me! So anyways. I got her My Heart Will Always Be On The B-Side Of My Tongue, by Fall Out Boy. She <3'd it. She gave me huge amounts of stuff, though. Travel Yahtzee!, Barrel of Monkeys, Silly Putty, an awesome beach and bubble blowing set, and a pretty hangy plastic puzzle globe thingy. Which I accidentally already sort of broke >< But it's pretty anyways! My friend Karly got me le shinyful scrapbook and some Vote For Pedro pens. The pens have become my official exam-taking pens, because I haven't had any trouble with the three exams I've taken so far with them. w00t.

My friend "Me" (she doesn't want her real name around >&lt says she got me two spiky bracelets that go blinky when you push a button, but she says she keeps forgetting them.

So there! My birthday update thingy!

Finals are the grossest thing EVAR. What's weird though, is that my birthday is like, the calm before the storm -- Memorial Day. We have Memorial Day Monday off, and then Tuesday we start up with exams. Gasp! So anyways, I'm going to be up in the Thumb at my cottage from today until Monday, and so I'm not having my birthday party until the Friday that we finally finish up exams. That Friday, 20 minutes after school gets out, I'm having a 2-hour-long bowling party with the entire class. w00t. Anyways, I'm probably going to do a huuuuge scratch art over the summer - eventually. It's about two feet by three feet. I still need ideas for what to scratch, and this is possibly going to be the most serious scratch art I've ever done, so NO jokey ones! Seriously! Anyways. Exams are GROSS.

Tuesday: 1-6 periods shortened. 7th period exam: Religion.
Wednesday: 1-4 periods regular. 5th period exam and 6th period exam: Science and history. R.S.V.P. due for party.
Thursday: 1st period exam and 2nd period exam: Algebra and health. Dismissed at 10:40.
Friday: 3rd period exam and 4th period exam: Band and English. Dismissed at 10:40. Bowling party from 11 to 1.

Anyways, <3 you all. I know for sure that I'm getting an mp3 player for my birthday, and I'm pretty sure I know what kind it is from when I was using my dad's computer yesterday, but I'm not going to tell because my dad might have spies on dA... >.> I swear I don't know what model it is, Dad!

Since I know you all love me, I think you'd all love to know that other people love me too. How do I know this? Well...

I'M GETTING FEATURED IN A GALLERY! Yah! Over at our ArtReach store downtown, I'm going to be in the Youth ArtWalk, all next month! You know you love eet >.> My stuff's going to be in the window of the ArtReach store! My scratch art will be in ze window! And people will buy eet! Possibly! So anyways, it's coming up either today or Monday. I'm soooo excited!

The works that I've got up are Broadway Street (under the name Downtown), Field and Moon (under the name Field With Moon), Midnight Farming, The Lone Candle, and The Mistress and the Rose and The Master and the Ring (matted together). I'm soooo excited! I actually used foamboard instead of matboard, but it looks really cool, and it was less expensive. <3

So anyways, if anyone I know in town is around Broadway this month, stop by the Art Reach store! Buy my work! ...or not. Whatever. Just look at eet!

EDIT: Ooooh, and also, I talked with the woman in charge of the Artwalk, and she said that it would be too much hassle for them to take a percentage of the sale value, so the artists get to keep ALL of the money from their sales! I'm SOOO excited! /e lubs

I was in Omaha for spring break, as you may or may not know. As I was packing, much to my dismay, I realized that the worst had happened -- I had left my folder containing all of my scratch art, sketching paper, scratchboard, and tools locked in the school. I was simply devastated at this turn of events! While I was in Omaha, the need to express myself grew so fierce, I was forced to borrow a few sheets of notebook paper and a mechanical pencil from my brother, ~marchhare09. With these meager materials I created a strange take on the Mad Hatter from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, as well as began a hippie take on the Caterpillar, from the same! The Caterpillar is still in progress, but I fear I may have lost motivation for him. He is only partially shaded. Anyways, enjoy the Mad Hatter. I love him, so you should too!

Okay, so this one isn't about scratch art! Yay me! The thing is, that I was talking to my art teacher (hooray for Hemmie) today after school and she said that the next step after scratch art is wood block printing or something. But I'm confused. I mean, why would I want to do wood block printing? It seems like it'd be more sculpt-y and it'd take longer. Plus wood=more expensive than scratchboard. But oh well... I'll try it out in her art class next year, probably. So... wish moi luck!

EDIT: Wows, I'm soooo excited! I put up my new scratches, and w00t w00t, I suddenly get a bunch of spiffy comments and a fave! I love you, dA! No, really. It's fun. I've finished my pineapple, but my mom whisked it off to our cabin before I could scan it. I've also done a few for my brothers since then, as well as *budum-CHH!* The Lone Candle, which I did in like half an hour. Enjoy!

Anyway, so far I've scratched a snowscape and a pot of tulips, both based on pictures I've found. BUT. I'm now working on my first piece of original scratch art, a pineapple. Yes, yes, I know it's lame, but I want to make it really really good. It will be a queen among pineapples!

Aren't they just pretty? But no. I lub them. I've also got some other art waiting to be put on my computer -- there's a drawing that I've made of my Puzzle Pirates character that needs coloring and an illuminated manuscript from art class that should be scanned. There are also nature sketches from class that I'm waiting for because they need to be graded still, and we're making crazy invention contraptions which I will most definitely share when mine's done. It'll be cool, trust me. Anyway, muffins be with you.
