It is my last month here in Kamigori before I head back to the states to buckle down and get my pilots license as well as work on the blueprints for a documentary I want to film mid-late 2009. I have been excited and anxious about my return while also feeling sad and wanting more time here in this amazing country.

Japan has some of the greatest people in the world. Not only are they extremely smart and skilled at what they do, but they also have the kindness and respect only seen in the 40's and 50's in American culture. Since I am a big fan of the saying, "Treat people the way you want to be treated," it is very easy for me to show love, kindness and respect to everyone out here and receive the same in return. While my kindness in America is seldom returned, the positive, peaceful energy is everywhere out here.

Some of the latest pics were taken exploring the town I have called my home for the last 6 months. Though I have only been here a short while, I will remember these people for the rest of my life. I will always remember Kamigori and the kindness it's citizens and my friends have shown me.

But it's not over yet...

The Cherry Blossom is a famous tree in Japan and many festivals, ceremonies, and traditional gatherings happen under the tree while the flowers are in bloom.
It's not an issue of sanity like it's been with the others, it's an issue of time.
So, in the hopes of finding a comfortable environment in which to co-exist in a romantic state, I continue the saga...

Hmmmm...

Is it really that important? I really don't care about the amount of times someone has viewed my page. There are more people that have managed to get far more views in much less time with a simple "myspace" sexy bosy in the mirror camera phone shot. I am not bothered, uninspired, let down or missing the "big picture". I am still focused on my photography and the creation of works that speak to me. If a larger audience than myself chooses to appreciate my artwork...well thank you very much. I thought I could accomplish more pageviews by visiting the forum and searching around and I did. But what I didn't like was conversing with all the "less than" mind numbing mutterings. It seems to overrun the forums and most other forums on this site and most others for that matter. In turn, I fell to their level at times conversing in manners I normally would shy away from and entertaining their jabs and quips like they actually meant something.

The truth is that page views, forum comments and what nots are truly a waste of time and concern. What I truly enjoy is being inspired by the other great artists and photographers alike that populate this website. I care about giving my opinion on their artwork and receiving "corrective" critcism on the works I create. If this website can inspire me to create better art...and educate as well as enhance my ability to create...then I fell like I have successfully achieved what I've desired.

I seem to favor them in my photography rather than wide, panoramic or horizontal framing for the mostpart.

I believe the reason is the often obstructed shot with tourist signs, powerlines or objects outside the interest of what I am trying to capture when I attempt the horiontal variations of framing the shot.

It's only been two weeks!

I feel like it's been ages since I last posted some photography in the usual 10 to 12 uploads during the weekend. Then I realized...it has only been two weeks. When I went to America and I was surrounded by familiar landscapes and cultures, I found myself uninspired to capture anything. Then I returned to Japan and almost instantly the need came back to create and explore.

On Sunday, my friend took me to a beautiful location where I captured over 120 pics in about 2 hours. Since my usual ratio of captured pics to desired images is about 10%, I should be uploading 10 to 12 in the next day or so...

Then again, maybe I should space it out a bit more and upload one or two pictures at a time...I never know.

Wow...

I didn't think so much could have happened in the 3 months I was away. I was able to see my previous house in ruins. My roommate was living alone due to kicking out 2 of the 3 other roommates out for cocaine abuse and the last for pill popping! This used to be a musical house with love and respect where the previous roommates cooked dinner together, played music together, talked to eachother and inspired one another.

Not that it's important, but it was interesting to notice that this 33 year old black man trying to get his life in order, after a painful divorce a couple of years back, had to deal with his living situation falling apart after the unpaid rent and untilities by the three other "white" roommates addicted on drugs. It is yet another example of how stereotypes are poorly placed. He is now having to move out since he is unable to come up with the substancial rent payment on his own, and might receive poor marks on his credit and rental history further perpetuating the stereotype while not being responsible for the turn of events in any way shape or form.

Regardless, he was able to hold his head up high and wear a smile on his face. I love Jared like a brother and constantly gain inspiration from his strength and his neverending positive attitude.

Soon...

Before living in Japan, I had a horrible view of Southern California and America. I was sick and tired of the angry, depressed people. I felt that the kindness and respect that had once been associated with "The Greatest Nation in the World" no longer existed and I was jaded.

Since my core beliefs stem from respect and kindness for your friends family and neighbors, I was greatly dissapointed with the current moral turpitude of American culture.

Not only has my impression of America changed by visiting Japan, it has improved. I was able to put things into perspective. First of all, I had not visited much of America outside the western states. This is important in judging America on a whole because doing so requires my experiencing what the different states and societies have to offer. There are different historical guidelines that govern each states and their moral code. While the "Bible Belt" adheres to religion more than spirituality and the codes of Jesus and God, southern California welcomes religion of all sorts and the freedom of spirituality...as long as you're a Democrat and hate George Bush with a passion!

In addition, I have learned of the beauty and diversity of America. While living in Japan, I was able to see that I am now the minority. That there are very few races of any color or ethnicity that don't belong to the Asian culture, living in Japan. America (Southern California in particular) has a wide range of people, food, cultures and history. It's truly beautiful to think about everyone co-existing in the same environment.

The only sad thing is the narrow minded independence of Americans. While Japanese people think of the good of the country and ways to advance the island for future generations, the Americans (Southern California in particular) think of how to display their success to the rest of the world and carve out their "piece of the pie" and hold it for themselves and no one else.

Regardless, I look forward to returning for 2 weeks in the beginning of February and tellings stroies of my travels to my family and friends while enjoying some good food, drink and conversation before returning to finish out the educational semester. I hope to return with a new outlook on life and the world, finish college, find a career I am passionate about (flying being a recent interest I plan on pursuing) and living somewhere that isn't surrounded by buildings and Hollywood, but rather, hills and people that enjoy every day for what it is and what it could be!
