Good Monday morning to everyone....hope all of you would have a fantabulous week ahead of you!

Anyway, just some useless information for all.

I came across some information on a photography exhibition that's gonna happen in March this year. No particular theme or genre. Participants who want their photographs to be exhibited (and potentially sold) just need to submit a maximum of 4 images of connected theme. i.e. all 4 images are consistent or 2 images are consistent in theme while the other 2 have another consistent theme. But submissions are not restricted to any particular theme.

It's not a competition, coz there's no prizes to be won. Just the 'excitement' and 'thrill' of having your photography works exhibited with many others in an exhibition, that's all.

So....I thought..."Why not?"

Especially since I've never participated in any photography exhibition, much less any form of photography competition.

"Get off your butt and give it a try, Nizz!" I told myself.

So off I went....printing 3x 4R prints of the 'Invisible' series...filling up the form....burning a CD containing the soft-copies of the 3 images...and submitting the entry by hand.

[[link] less 'Invisible II'.

Alas...I got a call last Friday from a lady, who's among the organisers.

"Would you like to submit another set of photos instead?" she asked me.

I couldn't quite understand what she said, initially. As in....'why ask me to submit another set? Why not just don't use my submissions and instead select other submissions which you deem are better?'

"We would like to give everyone a chance, so we're asking people like you to submit a different set if they're interested" she answered my question.

"Oh....I see" i thought to myself.

Next thing I did was to drop by the organiser's website...and I had a look at previous years' entrants.

They were all &#039retty' images. Nice sunsets. Beautiful landscapes of flower pastures. Gorgeous silhouettes of man and his workhorse on the ridge-line against the stunning skies. Nothing of the 'street photography' genre.

Oh....I see.

Not sure I wanna submit a different set now.

One of the deviants asked me in his comment to my photo....if I 'chased' for my photos. i.e. go looking for a shot. Told him that I tried 'chasing', but failed miserably. I felt that the pressure to find a frame distorts/clouds the mind, making you see only what you're looking for and not much else. I can safely say that 99% of the shots you see in my gallery were shot based on 'oh....that's a good frame'. And good frames depend a lot on luck (being at the right place at the right time....having the camera with me....having the right lens on the camera.....yada yada....).

Oh....and thanks to all who've fav-ed any of my deviations, or are 'watching' me. I've not managed to respond to all with a personal 'thank you' note. But the good thing is...I've just cleared my messages box, and will make it a point to try write to every single deviant who favs my image/watches me. My 'resolution' for this month!

Recent highlights....I tried pushing a film for the first time. Used an Ilford Delta3200 and pushed it to ISO 12800. Result? The grains were not much different from when I used the film at ISO3200. Very acceptable....more than acceptable. I don't have anything worthy of putting up in my DA gallery, but here's a link to a few of them:

[link]

And finally....I'd like to make a special mention about one of DriesI's deviation:

[link]

To those who go by the mantra that 'good photos are pin-sharp images', I hope this would somewhat change you.

Till the next journal update...

In some weird way, I now feel &#039ressured' to produce something of similar quality (not DD quality, but of similar power in meaning...does that make sense?). But I know I shouldn't.

But then again, that's what I always strive to do...to produce an image of 'meaning'. What does that mean? Meaning? Is it not sufficient to produce technically sound image? Apparently not anymore...for me at least.

Sigh...wished I had studied photography.

Nizz

Oh my....as I write this, I have this wide grin....no...make that smile...almost a laughter..AT MYSELF! You see....I don't quite go into DA that often. Maybe once a week. Not because I think it's 'crappy' or anything....just too many things to do (yes lame excuse, but sigh....that's the truth!).

Well.....aaaaaanyway. 15mins ago I decided to go in and have a look. And as usual, the first thing I look at is the number of messages I have. Not that I ever had more than maybe 1 new message everytime so far. But today....woaaaahh.....I was extremely surprised! 130 messages!

I thought to myself...."Wow....DA has been hit by spammers as well huh? Not surprised."

So I went ahead to check the messages. I love to read the occasional spam, anyway. Hahaha.

Oh boy....more surprises for me. They were messages of fellow DAs who 'favourited' me or added comments to my deviations. Wow! Totally unexpected. I mean.....I've got only like 8 images, and compared to some of the other works I've seen here, I figured I'm just a little dot in a huge encyclopaedia. But really.....it was an absolutely nice surprise to see some of my images being appreciated. It's a nice feeling. But I guess most of you out there in DA already know that! My oh my...I'm so slow. Hahaha...

Now....the next thing.

What's a DD?????

I received several congratulatory messages on 'being a record in achieving DD in quick time'. But what's a DD????? Somebody.....HELP ME!!!!!

Trust me....I'm still smiling, and laughing...at myself. For being silly to 'underestimate' DA. And for being so stupid not to know what a DD is.

Well...I hope I find out soon what a DD is. I hate being in the dark.....really.....it's awful. Not fun. Nope.

As for the images currently in the gallery....thanks for those who've commented on them. I've not put up anything new so far. Hopefully, there'd be some on the undeveloped rolls waiting for my attention.

Till then....

...and sooo it begins.

My dive into DA.

It's been around for quite awhile. Heard so much about it. Have been resisting it. But I'm starving for a different perspective. Sticking to a local audience is beginning to be frustrating, and the need for an external point-of-view has made the push to join DA greater than ever.

And thus today, 12th December 2007, marks a great day for me....a day that the 'world' sees my 'works' [if you can call them that], and I see the 'world'. Believe it or not, I'm actually quite excited. For reasons I shan't try to understand at the moment, but instead to just enjoy.

First thing to note....this place has an intriguing user interface. I must be using too much of my left brain. [Must.....engage......right......brain........must......MUST.....]

Till then....
