Summer is here it seems, and its baking here! Although I can't quite get rid of my English instinct that it will suddenly turn cold and have taken to taking a cardigan out with me, despite the rising temperature.

It is quite strange, not only the weather, but the freedom at the moment. I finished college about two months ago, and have gone from full on non stop work, to relaxation. Its an odd feeling for me, I'm used to being pushed. And the result has been very little art work being made. Without the studio space and facilities I'm used to, I find myself dismissing ideas I have, or keeping them for September when I moved to Glasgow. I am suddenly remembering why photography was so important to me, it was such an accessible medium a few years ago when all I had was myself and my bedroom.

I'm going to try and get back into taking pictures, mainly as a creative outlet, to keep my mind moving over, but also, to be honest, I do miss it a bit. The majority of the work I watch on here is photography, and nearly all my favs are photographs. But over the past year I moved on from using the camera as my main instrument, and used it more as a stepping stone for ideas, and then as a documenting tool. My work has become so installation based it feels odd to move back to something I was obsessed with at 15! And yet blogs like Severin Koller's, and Charlotte Gonzales', and websites like Lia Saile (seafairy on here), are places I visit regularly for inspiration. So maybe it's time to reconnect with my cameras haha.

Sadly this summer I'm not traveling as much as I would like, and I also, somehow, managed to miss Glastonbury! It slipped my mind when tickets were on sale, and I was kicking myself for being so absent minded while watching some of my favorite artists like Florence and the Machine play. But I am going to Green Man Festival in August, which will be amazing.

Hi,

Just uploaded some of my newer work that is a part of research for an exhibition/end of year show in three weeks time. The work explores senses of personal space and the studio environment, looking at both the activity of others and myself. I considering the pieces drawings, despite the fact they arn't often made with traditional drawing materials. The work is very site specific, so the photographs don't often do them justice. It is about mapping an environment, making the work space art and the art the work space. Bluring the lines between studio and exhibition space, and what is 'correct' to display and what activity is often hidden away. I'm currently working with another artist, as a parasite/host relationship, documenting his activity as he works on his own work. Without others, my work wouldn't exist.

I plan on posting pictures of the wall drawing I'm working on as its progresses.

I was quite annoyed the find though, that there doesn't seem to be any category for installation or site specific work on deviantART. And to me this seems ridiculous, as so many people work in such a manner. Time for an update?

I also posted some written work, I'm not really a writer and they are just quick, personal experiments with the medium, so I would appreciate some feed back.

Things are very hectic at the moment, I'm starting work on my final major project, and in the process of university interviews. I'm really hoping to get into Glasgow School of Art to study Environmental Art and Sculpture. I'm also saving to go to NYC again in the summer, hopefully for about 5 weeks in June and July, so if any deviants I know fancy meeting up, send me a note.

I have also been thinking about maybe getting a tattoo.... but its hard to decide. I know I want it somewhere secret, not on display... so my wrist, or foot, or maybe the top of my ribs under my arm. I know I want it to be black and grey, and traditional. I want it to be feminine but not girly.... so something traditional. Maybe a bird? And yet I know everyone has swallows, and I would regret that. Any ideas? I think I will have to put a lot of thought into this one.....

Happy New Year, I hope 2009 will be a good year for everyone. Personally, I dislike odd numbers.... not sure why.... so '09 freaked me out a little bit. But strangely enough, as its related to 6, which is my favorite number, it's not as bad as 5.... or 7....

I turned 19 on the 20th December as well, I always found it fun when I was younger that my age matched the last number in the year. Before my birthday I was in New York, which was amazing, and very inspiring. It was my second trip there, but this time with College instead of family. I would love to go again, and I'm seriously considering studying/living/working there after my degree.

I didn't take many photos, mainly because my digital compact camera died, but plus I didn't feel the need to. If I had had my film SLR on me, I would have taken 100s, but it felt too touristy, too cliche, and there was so much to do in 6 days that I concentrated on the experience rather than documenting it. That would be another bonus about living there, exploring in more detail. I had just discovered Brooklyn the day we left, Bedford has the most amazing vintage shops, and such a cool feeling going on thats completely different to Manhattan.

New Years was fun, I went down to Stratford-upon-Avon (the birth place of Shakespeare for those non-English readers), and stayed at a friend's house for a few days. It was a nice get-away, a mini holiday if you will. It was quite depressing when I got home, as all I'm doing now is ten ton of work. I can't wait to move away next year to university, I love my foundation course, but I have been there for 3 years now.... its time to move on.

I have interviews in the upcoming months, so wish me luck! My choices are Edinburgh, Slade, Goldsmiths and Liverpool.... I'm not sure what I would do if I go into more than one, I'm not sure how I would choose!

Again, apologize for lack of work... I always say this. At some point, I will photograph the drawings and sculpture work I have been doing, but my work has moved on so much from my photography days here on DA that its simply not as easy to post. Hopefully that makes sense. I do have a short film I made a couple of months ago that I might try and post, if my computer skills are up to it.

Here are a few of my favs from the past few weeks. I have been trying to keep up with my devwatch, after sometime of neglecting it, and enjoy the work people are producing. Plus, a nice browse through them will hopefully cheer me up, as work and being in the house on my own is getting to me a little bit. Enjoy!

I plan on doing some more life drawing soon, and as soon as my camera is fixed (it has a slight but annoying fault) I will go through my portfolios and get some decent pictures of my recent work. I was hoping this summer would be a creative outlet, but as usual things haven't gone to plan. I have two weeks let, lets see what happens.

Updated my gallery with photographs I took the other week. I havn't done any of my 'own' work for months because of college, but with the summer, inspiration is seeping back in.

I went to see the Klimt exhibition at the Tate Liverpool yesterday, and I really enjoyed it. I have loved Klimt for ever and ever, and it was so satisfying and inspiring to get to see his work in person. I suggest all who enjoy his work, or those who need a bit more convincing, go see it. The only down side was the price of the gifts in the shop, but I got myself a nice magnet.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me.

As part of my art exam this year I have to work around a certain word, I have chosen 'erode'. As part of my research and development on this word I have to research artists that work in a similar way to me and inspire me.

I already have a few in mind but I was wondering if any of you had any ideas. Interpret the word in any way you like, whether it be the way the artist uses texture, tone, chipped paint, burns material, anything. Erode can mean a lot of things, from rock to river beds to time to rust.

Here is a definition to get your juices flowing:

to eat into or away; destroy by slow consumption or disintegration: Battery acid had eroded the engine. Inflation erodes the value of our money.

to form (a gully, butte, or the like) by erosion.

corrode, waste, ravage, spoil.

To wear (something) away by or as if by abrasion: Waves eroded the shore.

To eat into; corrode.

To make or form by wearing away: The river eroded a deep valley.

To cause to diminish or deteriorate as if by eating into or wearing away: "Long enduring peace often erodes popular resolution"

remove soil or rock; "Rain eroded the terrace"

There are just a few interpretations of the word, and although I'm focusing more on the geological side of things, working with textures and mixed media and book binding, please feel free to point me in any inspiring direction.

After all that fuss, I have managed to sort things out. Thankfully. Although I am extremely disappointed with the help system google has, as well as total disregard for people using macs!

Iv'e been trying to get into my blogspot account so I can start using my blog again.... you think that would be simple but no!

For some reason it wants me to update my account... okay thats fine... and by doing so I must create a google account.... okay thats fine too..... until it just won't let me.

I did what the page told me, type out my email, a password, the silly letters in the box... and it just refreshes and won't work.

So I ask for help, it tells me to check the cookies etc on my internet browser.... ofcourse it doesn't have an example for macs and safari so I use the help on my computer.

That goes fine, I do exactly what it says. But one problem.... it still doesn't work! Every time I come to create a google account, it just refreshes the page and doesn't move on to the next step. Which means I can't access my blogspot account.

So I try to contact google directly (by this point I' just getting annoyed, all I wanted to do was start posting a few photos again.... nothing this dramatic). But instead of just coming up with an email.... Iv'e got to through a load of questions. Non of which address my needs.

SO annoying. And I'm starting to forget what I was trying to do in the first place!

Thanks to everyone who suggested things that I could do to get my photographs back! It made me feel so much better that there was something I could do.

I went to see the ICT technicians at my college and they have a program that can retrieve all the files that have ever been on my USB memory stick, so that's good. I'm probably going to get the photos back

I'm suppose to be going to Paris on Sunday, but it appears that the Metro and Buses are on strike so there may be no point in going if I can't get around

I came to edit some photographs I took about a month ago this morning, and theyve gone.

I was storing them on my USB memory stick, which Ive only used once since I put the photographs on it, and theyve completely disapeared. The files are still there, like I made them, but all the photographs inside them have gone.

I just can't work out what's gone wrong, and I'm seriously upset. Those photographs were extremely important and I need them.... Can anyone help me? Or atleast tell me what might have gone wrong.

I used the memory stick to transfur some other images from my computer to my boyfriends, maybe that is what made it go wrong.... I just don't know..

please help..

Well, what can I say... apart from I'm completely exhausted!

I got back from a three week trip to France at 5 am on Wednesday, and Thursday I left for Leeds Fest, so sorry for not being active around here but I have some great photos I'm gunna work on and post.

Leeds Fest was amazing, my frist time there and I really enjoyed it even if there were a few down points. I think my fav acts were Kings of Leon, CSS, Gossip, Whiskey Cats and a few others but i cant remember their names lol. Red Hot Chilli Peppers were a bit of a let down to be honest, I found there extended guitar solos a bit dull and the lack a truely recognisable songs made me wonder why I was there, it was great if youre a die hard Chillis fan but whatever. Plus I couldn't see a thing haha, damn being only 5'4"!

France was great, got loads of research done for my courses next term (which starts in a week or so..... damn). Although the trip wasnt as long as I normally go for, the fact that I'm going to Paris next October makes up for it. I still can't believe summer is almost over!

My AS results were pleasing, I got an A in History of art (on every paper aswell!), an A in Media and Bs in Photography and Fine Art. I really wanted an A in Art but its only the first year, I will just have to work as hard next term.

Summer is gunna rock this year.

We were given our briefs for the second year last week to work on over the summer, and IÂm more excited than normal. We have nearly a year to work on them and I quite like that as it reduces the rush and will allow me to work into more depth with my work, develop it more and treat it more like I would if I were working independently.

I was thinking of having an over all theme for my projects, I will have a practical study in Art as well as a Personal Investigation (illustrated long essay) in both Art and History of Art. As I will be looking at Gothic Cathedrals (or something related) in HofA, I was thinking of looking at Art Nouveau or specifically William Morris in art, and then doing a project around the idea of natural shapes and forms reflected in art, architecture and textiles. They link together quite nicely and they also allow me to do a lot of research in the area I live in, and focus in more on British art, which is something I havenÂt been able to do yet.

As I will be visiting Northern France as well this summer, Gothic Cathedrals seems obvious, the use of natural shapes can in a way be seen here therefore linking to Art Nouveau. William Morris will be interesting as although he is defined as an Art Nouveau artist, he was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and the Pre-Raphaelites so that brings up an interesting argument as well as him being separated from the main movement in France and Paris due his location.

I was very inspired by Tudor houses and knot gardens, which lead me to the idea of nature in architectureÂ. One big circle of influence I guess.

Anyways IÂm rambling. If anyone can think of good examples of artists or architecture which play with the idea of natural and organic forms and pattern do let me know, especially if the are in Britain/England and have a Gothic or Art Nouveau focus.

My new series of photographs are called Venus, and I wanted to explain in more depth the reasons why I called it this and the ideas behind the series. The idea stemmed from my grandma giving me the mannequin after I asked her if I could borrow her tailors dummy. Her words were Âyou can use this instead, itÂs pretty much your figure just the bust is a bit biggerÂ. This annoyed me in a way and this is the result. You donÂt have to read this, you could just view the images and infer what you wish from them but IÂd prefer it if you did read what I have to say. Enjoy!

The subject matter of Venus, or specifically the sculpture we associate with the name Venus: ÂVenus de MiloÂ, has been repeatedly used throughout art history and modern media. It has become something more than its original intention. Like the ÂMona LisaÂ, it has become romantised to the point where it is a being in itself, a vesicle for our societyÂs and cultureÂs many ideas on women and femininity. We have seen it everywhere, from Yves KleinÂs Venus paint blue to the razor blade you can by with the same name. But you canÂt deny it, you do know and recognise the name.

Aphrodite, or Venus, the Greek and Roman goddess of love has been represented many times over in marble and bronze, but ÂVenus de MiloÂ has come to represent classical sculpture as a whole to the modern world. With her contrapposto pose, exaggerated hips, loose drapery, full rounded breasts and delicate serious features she is the epitome of ideal physical beauty for the Greeks during the Hellenistic period. As Honour and Flemming state in their book, ÂA World History of ArtÂ, she is Âaggressively feminineÂ. But she is also Âbeyond the physicalÂ.

Naturalistic the technique and her physique maybe, she is not necessarily realistic. She is an ideal, and at 6 foot, 7 inches she isnÂt intended to be the representative of all mortal women, but that the goddess. But the ideal of the feminine figure is still pinned upon her, she is the definition of what femininity was to the Greeks and Romans.

What is the definition of femininity in our culture? What we see in fashion? Most probably, it is what will live on and what future generations will judge some of our ideals on. If one thinks about it, religion and religious art dominated the world of the ancients and what they created to homage that is what lived on, and is what tells us about their culture. Consumerism seems to be our modern day religion, it is what drives nearly all of us and what we see all around us. But IÂm going off on a tangent here, let me return to the matter in hand.

If religion, and therefore temples where what dominated ancient Greek culture, then shops must be our temples. Hello,

my last journal is certainly in stark contrast to this one, on Saturday I was complaining about not doing anything and then woosh everything is happening haha.

On Monday I got a phone call from my friend, Aron, telling me that I had to come to Manchester with him to see a band play. I'd never heard of them before and I had an hour to get ready but I thought oh fuck it, lets just go. So 2 hours later I'm in Manchester listening to Nouvelle Vague and their opening act Simone White.

Oh.. My... God...

They are the best music I have heard in such a long long time. Amazing, truely amazing.

They take 80s punk and new wave music (think Blondie etc) and cover them, leaving only the melody, eveything else is differnt. It's pure genious. They do it in a way which could only be French. And they are wonderful live, 10 times better than just listening to them

Just got back from a trip to London, above is one of the post cards I liked the best at the Tate Modern. I agree with quite a few of the points... especially the art history one. I'm studying art history at the moment and I find it quite strange how (even into modern history and post modern) there are hardly any women mentioned, and when they are it is a big point that they are a women. Okay, so your sex will play a part in your art - it is apart of who you are and who you are is reflected in your art - and yet it seems like it's a huge deal when the artist is a woman.

Anyway, London was good, it was a great chance to do some primary research for my Photography and Fine Art exam which I'm working on at the moment. That's the reason I picked up the postcard above, its writing as art which is what I'm looking into for Fine Art. The stimuli was 'Alphabets' but I'm going off on my own thing really.

At the moment I'm quite busy, preparing for exams etc. Hope everyone is well.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.

I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.

I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.

I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.

I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didn't have to always deal with society hating me.

I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.

I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most: Love.

_{As you may have noticed, I have just posted a photograph again. And yes, it has been a while. I'd like to express why Ive been so absent of late.

Over the past year I have found myself becoming more and more frustrated by photography. As Ive started to move back into other mediums (where I feel more free, creative and inspired by than ever) my photography has suffered. Which saddens me.

It has become worse since starting Art College. Photography is now work, as well as pleasure, and I find it hard to create anything which satisfies me and lives up to my high standards. Although I do like some of my film prints, they still frustrates me.

Another contributor to this creative block is deviantART, and my own 'ideas' about photography which have built up over the years. I want to try and rid myself of these inhibitions I have about photography and my work. I want to forget what clichés are, what is deemed 'emo' or 'cool'. I want to forget which is better, digital, film, Polaroid, and simply create.

It's hard to do so, but that's what my recent submission is. An attempt to free myself from my frustration and let my creativeness come out. Basically, returning to the photographer I was before I was taught how to be one - by college, deviantART or anything else.

I hope this will allow me to become more active here again, even though I do have my reservations about deviantART, it is good to share ones work.

On a brighter note though, my traditional work is really exciting me at the moment. I have been working a lot in paint, photocopying and lots of different media and texture. What I used to dislike about Fine Art was this whole final piece thing, but since going to art college I have discovered that my passion lies in processes of creation, not just a final product at the end. Sadly this means that my work is quite hard to display on the internet, either it be because its too big or there are too many parts to it. However, I will see what I can do.

So hopefully, with luck, you might see me around here more often. I do fav and browse but not as much as I should.

I havent updated this journal in such a long long time, although I do have my excuses. I have been around and briefly browsing but commenting, journal posting and uploading stuff has pretty much went out the window. Although with the new year I plan on getting back into it again. I havent done much as far as my own art is concerned really, Art College takes the inspiration out of me, but I think I might post some of my Polaroids from last summer and maybe some work from my college projects.

The new journal enhancements are quite interesting, there is something about CSS at the bottom but I havent got around to looking at it yet. Anyway, back to the journal subject.

I will be in Paris mid October some time, Im not sure exactly when yet but if people want to meet up - I may be able to. Im really looking forward to it, it will be my third visit to the beautiful, French capital and this time I plan on seeing and doing more things for myself. Me and my mum decided to split up from my dad and my brother and go see arty things while they look at the war museums etc.

Im planning on taking only black and white film with me, mainly because I want to see Paris a different way and record my journey in a different medium, as last time I used only digital. Plus it will fit nicely into my Photography course - as well as my Art History course, I may have to actually go inside the Louvre this time.

College is going well, I can hardly believe Ive been there for a month now. Im planning on developing more film tomorrow and hopefully scanning some in so I can upload some here.

I thought I would post a few of my favourite thumbs that I have come across recently. I havent done this in a while, but it's nice to collect thumbs sometimes. (And with the new system of having the thumb number next to the deviation, it makes things a lot easier)

This girl has such a unique beauty, don't you think? I love faces which are stunning, but different. I think another good example would be `SeaFairy.

Ive been a fan of this guy's work for a long time, and Ive had his work in my journal before. But this woman's face is wonderful, beautiful. But the kind of beauty I mentioned in the above thumb.

This just reminds me of 'old Hollywood', she kind of reminds me of a young Marilyn Monroe - before the bleached blonde hair. Plus it's film, which adds extra yummyness.

While I'm on the topic of film, you should really check out =kinderschokolade 's blog (www.severinkoller.blogspot.com). He posts a lot of his film work here, but there's more to be seen on his blog. It's fun to browse and quite inspiring, especially for me as Ive only just gained access to a darkroom and I'm having lots of fun. I was going to post one of the prints I made last Tuesday, but it wasn't 'perfect' so I didn't get around to scan it. I think I will probably print it again with a few other photographs next week when I have more time.

On another note, I came across this guy today: *drcurvy. Ive seen inflation drawings before... but photography? I can't work out whether he's one giant joke or a really disturbed person....

Retail serious is a cure for anything.

I spent more than I should have.

But Ive been working very hard lately, and I havnt bought any

new clothes is about 8 months.

I deserve a treat, ok!?

Things I bought:

A little carican/top in black from H&M

Dark blue trousers which are quite wide - nice and comfy

Light pink (omg, I never buy pink) flower clips for my hair

(I love flower clips by the way, I go all geisha style when ever I tie

my hair up)

A skirt (again, omg I never buy skirts but its very my style.)

Big pockets, loose, in blue/grey. And most of all, comfy!

some footless tights (a bit too fashionable for my liking, but what the

heck) in grey.

A bag the same as the one I already have but in reddish brown, from

Muji (best shop ever)

I forgot to add - omg my subscription runs out soon I don't know how i'll manage with out one I will have to see if i can convince my dad into buying me another one.... but :crie: and for now

Ive been very very busy lately. Not that I mind - but it does take up a lot of time and engery. Dead lines are coming up and so are exams, so I have been working extra, extra hard to finish everything that needs doing.

On Monday we got our 'Art Exam' or 'Controlled Course Work'. The question I have chosen has very much inspired me - I'm not giving any clues yet but you may see some of work of a new style apearing in my gallery in the next few weeks.

Thankfully, I have a holiday next week - I plan to basicaly just work every day but on the thursday of that week Kev ( ~LenzFrenzy ) is coming to my house again which will be a very welcome break from work!

On the bright side (not that having lots of art and photography work to do is bad... I quite like it) I have finished all my Maths course work after going time and time again after school to finish it. Hehe. Quite proud of myself to be honest - I feel dedicated}

Iv'e decided to put my browsing and faving adiction to good use. You might have noticed Iv'e been posting 'Junk Journals' full to the brim with yummy thumbs with a certain theme. I really enjoy doing it, and it's an excuse to waste time and browse deviantART even more!

Junk Journal; I took the name Junk from the slang for heroin and from the title of a book about teenagers addicted to the drug. Its addictive, it becomes obsessive, you cant live without it - Junk. I like the word, even if it has other meanings for crap stuff etc... don't really care.

I'm going to keep posting Junk Journals - I enjoy them I hope you do too.
