The company I work for is about to launch a membership site. Come to think of it, now that I'm an editor myself, some of the comments that I remember him making during class about that damn book seem just a little bit more funny than they did all those years back.

Anyway, what does all my 4am rambling mean to you?Â And what does it have to do with being in an LA Art show?

Matt posted in his blog that he's looking for some great artists to be in his show.Â I know a lot of you who watch this are great artists, and this actually is a great opportunity.Â Those of you looking to have a career in art, check it out.Â Let me know what happens.Â I'd love to see the work you do if you decide to take him up on this.

Doing some bored Sweeney Todd art browsing (the Penny Dreadful that the play [and thus the movie as well] is a wee bit dry, and I didn't bring any coffee with me to work so I needed a break from it), I find a bunch of deviations marked with "Sweeney Todd Poster Contest." The subject of this journal entry? Yeah, that's what I said.... out loud.... ::mumbles:: ....at work....

There's some really great pieces in there. One that I was looking at said something about winning a tablet. So then my brain went "HOLD it! It's an actual contest?!" (Don't tell my brain, but it's a little slow most days....)

So, I tried to find information on these Community Project contests. Nothin'... Nothin' in chats, nothing in search, nothing in help and FAQs! So, um... Does anyone know about these contests and how to enter them?

This is what I'm looking for:
You like to give your opinion.
You enjoy reading fanfictions.
You don't mind if said fanfiction is from a series you may or may not have ever seen/read before.
You like to give your opinion!
You have time to read and give immediate feedback.
You know what a crit is and can give one.
Did I mention you like to give your opinion?

I e-mail chapter updates every few days or so (this one is going really fast right now, and I'm hoping it'll stay that way), but they're relatively short. I think the longest chapter is the first one at five pages.

Below is the first few paragraphs of the first chapter. This story is based on the Women of the Otherworld series written by Kelley Armstrong. The rating is PG-13, with definate strong language and some gore as a result of violence.

ÂYou fought like hell last night. I'm not sure if we should be impressed or not.Â

The woman's voice echoed through my head as I blinked away the darkness that inked out my vision. I tried to sit up, but a wave of nausea and a pain that protested my moving shoved me back onto the cold concrete under my back. I lay there a few minutes, my hair fanned out above my head as the floor surface cooled the back of my skull.

ÂFuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckk...Â I finally managed to groan. With the effort of someone carrying a lead weight strapped to their wrist, I managed to cover my face with my arm. The aches and protests that my body was giving me seemed to cement the decision that a week of twelve hour work days followed by a night of drinking alone will never again be on my to-do list. That, or experimenting with the liquor cabinet's contents should be removed from said list. Yeah, that one is better.

I was barely aware of the shuffling of feet on concrete until I heard a second voice, male this time. ÂI'll take over from here.Â Two sets of feet moving around somewhere near my head, the scrape of a chair moving followed by hesitant footsteps retreating from the room.

Something in my brain suddenly clicked. Who did these voices belong to? I didn't have any roommates. I moved out of that situation a couple weeks ago. Besides, the one guy that I shared the old place with had the barking voice of someone who was constantly under strain, whether or not it was true. This guy sounded like, um, not that. Quieter, calmer, and definitely a tenor if not a baritone.

I shot up to a sitting position, coming face to face with a stone wall. I blinked as if it would clear the sight of the wall from my eyes, like it does that pre-waking up gook when I slept too hard. I didn't have stone walls in my apartment. Shit, I don't even think the pathway from the garage to the apartment was even real stone! I lived in Southern California, for Christ's sake... Nothing there was real except the smog; but, here I was, staring at my faint shadow on a real stone wall.

I stumbled on his first novel, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom a few years ago.Â What first caught my attention about him was that all of his works are free for download.Â Despite not being a big fan of Science Fiction, I was fast to get to the end of the file on my e-book reader.Â At the time, that was all he had released, so I read it at least two more times after that before the story was so familiar that it was pointless to waste the battery life on my device.

To give a quick run-down, Down and Out is about a man named Julias who's trying to help get his friend's Whuffie (how well one is liked and also determines one's personal value) up so that he can permanently kill himself.Â That is, until Julias goes on some crazed "Protect the Haunted Mansion" project.Â You gotta read it, and what do you have to lose?Â It's free!!

At the time, I was trying to start a Haunted Mansion fan community (which obviously flopped).Â But I had all these plans for him to be my first e-mail interview to post to the group and everything.Â Who better than the biggest out-of-the-closet Mansion fan?Â Like I said though, the community flopped and I chickened out.Â I didn't have a reason to "bother" this man anymore.

Fast forward a few years.Â He's now got a nice number of published books under his belt and is actually one of the main editors of BoingBoing.Â Again, I state, I'm not a fan of Science Fiction, so in the many years that I've read and re-read Down and Out... I haven't been able to touch his new stuff.Â Until a really boring day at work...

I downloaded all his works to my thumb drive and started from the alphabetical beginning.Â "Craphound", a short story, was first.Â A brief mention of Disneyland.Â Uh, obsessed much?Â Like I should talk.Â I boast that I had my first Disneyland Annual Pass when I was five, and have had one every year since except for the now total of three years that have been and am a Cast Member.Â But that brief mention was enough for me to e-mail him and ask him about his obsession with Disney.

A few minutes later, I got an e-mail back.Â A standard generated "On vacation, catch you later" thing.Â I shrugged and really didn't expect him to return my e-mail anyway.Â Two hours later, I got an actual e-mail from him, which had a picture of him taken the day before at the Disney family's grave.Â The guy came to California just to visit the grave site of Disney...

So, now that I've fan-girl rambled on about this guy, I have questions!

Have you ever wanted to meet a "famous" person simply because you want to pick their brain on the topic that got you interested in them in the first place?

Did you get that chance?Â If so, what happened?Â I want details!

And on the other side of the coin...

If you are a "famous" person, have you ever had fans come up to you who wanted to pick your brain?Â (I'm not talking the "OMG!Â *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAL!!!*Â Do you know who you are?Â OMG!!" types.Â I mean someone who might have come off like that, but really wanted to discuss an interest they share with you)

If so, what was your initial reaction?

I've decided that I really don't like the "friends" list that DeviantArt provides, so they will be listed in the footer of my journal. It gives me more control over it, and I can separate what is what in there, rather than it all be lumped together.

"Why is that, self?" I asked....myself. And it occured to me. I've been writing far more than photographing (or at least photographing anything that's non-stock. DA has been weird and not letting us upload the photos I took to the =TLStock account) or "normal" art.

So, since my personal site doesn't get as much traffic as I'd like, I'm posting the stories here as well. They're mostly fanfiction, and I'm starting from the top. So, a "new" old one will be posted every so often, when I feel that it's been too long without me posting.

I encourage crits! I beg for crits! Notice I said "crits" and not "flames."

P.S. - Don't forget, I have offered my 1000th viewer, who sends me a screen shot, a gallery photo print. 1000 views is slowly creeping up.

~youngwolfbrother and I came up with this idea over a late lunch of Subway Tuesday evening. We found a copy of The Notebook sitting on a table with a note attached to it saying that it's not lost but to be picked up, read, and sent on it's way.

The idea of that intrigued us, so we came up with this idea. Do the same thing, but the book is to be themed Travel. This one would be just general stories about traveling (future volumes would be different travel themes such as time travel, mythical travel, space travel, etc. if we get a good enough turn out). We'd set up a website for it and everything.

The guidelines so far are:
- 40,000 words or less short story or poem
- General travel theme
- We'll also need artists to maybe illustrate for a story or two, or just stand-alone art on traveling

We don't have a set deadline date, we're just feeling out who would be interested in the idea.

Now, here I am, just a day shy of being a member of Deviant Art for one month and I already have over sixty hits to my page, and the begininngs of a Prints store! On top of that, I'm also getting commission requests for my chainmaille pieces!! I'm just shocked and wowed, and.... Well, it's just really cool!

To thank you all who support me and my art, I'm offering a gift to the first visitor who sends me a screen shot of my pageviews being 100 or more. That person will receive their choice of an original drawing by me or a small chainmaille piece (i.e. bracelet or finger ring).
