So things didn’t go as I had planed in AZ, so I’m back in Ohio for a few months. I got to visit my year old nephew on Thanksgiving, was funny to see a one year old eat turkey and mashed potatoes with his hands. I might be moving to Pennsylvania with my old roommate. Hopefully things will go better that it did in AZ but you never know. From a bit of job hunting online the hunt may go better. But you never know. Now to why I haven’t posted anything. It isn’t because I’m lazy and haven’t done anything. It is because I’m working for a Dragon Age: Origins mod, called Darkworld. They requested that I don’t post anything from the group on outsides sites. Which is okay by me!

You can check them out over here:
- [link] (Their homepage)
- [link] (This one has a gallery with some weapons I did)

Also my facebook account, if you are into that sort of thing - ([link])

Well time sure dose fly by, 10 months went and gone. Now I’m moving back to the state or sunshine and stupidity! Yup Arizona here I come. October third can be any closer and yet I wish it will never come. I had some good time and some bad time out there. All in all, it was an enjoyable stay there. Made some great friends whom I’m gonna catch up with. Besides the heat the weather was nice and the abundance of convenience store was also nice. I'm going to miss all this free time I have, but getting a pay check sounds nicer. Hopefully it will go better than the freelance web stuff i tried a while back. Going head out there to try and find a job, kick some ass, and get some people to get working again.

I have been busy the past few months with a few projects. One is an iPhone game which is starting to slow down do to the lack of work from the team. Hopefully when I move down to AZ, things will pick back up. Gonna whip some butts to get this thing moving. Also been apart of a mod group, can’t say much but I like where this one is going. Was iffy for a while but things are looking up. They have a strong leader who is finally taking charge. This is also the reason I haven’t been submitting anything recently. Most of my time goes to the mod and the iPhone projects. There is also Electric Flannel, which just finished up with their game “Destination Unknown” for the apple apps store. It isn’t out yet, but the game is finished. It should be out soon.

Well I’m gonna get back to packing and back to life!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm on facebook now, but I'm not giving you a link. You have to find me! They seem to create lines in the meshes when I mirror assets. Sometimes it is the specular map, others it is the normal map. A few were both!!! So I decided to take a break from it and work on some individual assets and come back to the factory later. I’m kicking it off with a file cabinet. Hazza!!! I’ll keep working on other assets to my hearts content until I figure out the seams issue. So keep an eye out for them. I think I will make a bookshelf next, hmmmm?

So I'm still waiting to hear from people about getting websites started and others finished. To add to this waiting I'm also waiting to hear back from an employer about a real job! Which my last only 3 to 6 months if I get it. Then I have to pay out of my pocket a plane trip from Ohio to Arizona. Yeah! I'm getting ready to import my assets base into the unreal 3 engine. Unfortunately if I do move, I can't take my desktop with me on da plane. So importing a finished piece for unreal may take a while. I can render it in max, won't be game worthy and can't use the glow maps I have been making but it would look more kick ass!

On a different note there was a massive 15 minute thunderstorm what took out a tree in the backyard. You can see pictures of it over here. ([link]) Ah the power of weather!!!! Also my lump on my spine turned out to be an infected cyst. For those who care

Back to life I guess!

EDIT: I never said what job I was going for. It was a quality assurance tester job for D3 publishing. On a sadder note I got a "letter", yes paper and ink letter, from them saying "We are impressed with your qualifications: however, we have decided to pursue another candidate whose qualifications more closely meet our needs." Oh well this clears up some things I guess.

The last time I wrote in my journal I had a list of what I was doing. Let’s compare then to now!!!

#1:. Spending my days boringly surfing the web
I don’t really surf anymore for no real reason now. Some times it is for finding new textures on cgtextures.com, to check eMails, or even to look for reference for new things to model! Mostly it has been to listen to MST3K episodes whilst I model.

#2:. Thinking of what to model in 3DsMax
Well if you have been paying attention to my gallery, you can see what I decided to model next! Some base in the side of a hill. I am really happy on how it is going. When some more assets finished, it shall be imported into unreal 3 engine! If anyone has a cool name for the base, let me know. I haven’t named it yet.

#3:. Watching movies
This has changed to playing video games. I have been exploring the wasteland of Fallout 3 to further find more guns/ammo/caps to add to my supplies. I have enough to start my own army. It is funny because I am a good character yet I hoarding so much food and supplies it isn’t funny. The game lags for a few seconds when I open any storage device to add more supplies. I’m also trying to bear Resistance 2 on superhuman.

#4:. Going though my old stuff for a garage sale at the beginning of June
Had the sale, made some money, sold the rest of the quality crap at an action house (made even less money). Now this sounds like a great thing, getting money! However it is spent in mass because I developed a lump near my spine four days ago. I am heading to the doctor’s to have it checked out. It has been causing me a great deal of pain for the past few days. So poopyÂ

#5:. Still waiting on eMails so I can continue to work on projects which will get me paid
Still waiting… Except for one, it was cancelled do to lack of funds for their organization.

Four out of five changes isn’t that bad! Especially when the first three are for the better! I just hope the lump isn’t to serious. I have heard a lot of things from a lot of people. It might be lipoma, cancer, slipped disk; someone even said it was a spider bite. I don’t believe that one until I start crawling up walls. LOL!

Well back to life!

So what have I been doing, well not very much to tell the truth. Days have been spent boringly surfing the web, thinking of what to model in 3DsMax next, watching movies, going though my old stuff for a garage sale at the beginning of June, and waiting on eMails so I can continue to work on projects which will get me paid. It seems like a lot but in reality it is a very lazy schedule.

So to change things up I decided to look back at my old school work and see if I can redo something. Maybe make an old unreal level better or find a model I never finished. I got a lot of those! Then I found an old flash game I made called HAMSTER WARS! ([link]) You play a hamster trying to stop an alien force from invading the world! It was simple and most of the actionscript 2.0 seems strange to me as I look it over. It seems like a good place to try and do something with my time! Think it would be interesting to make it look like an old Nintendo game. Yet this might be getting ahead of myself I believe I should relearn actionscript 2.0 first! Thanks to Conquerernad for the idea of reworking the flash game.

As for modeling, I want to do something with metal in it, just not sure what yet. I have been told my metal texturing lacks a certian something. I was thinking of a sci-fi hallway on a space ship. I could do some nice metal there also some interesting hologram shaders inside of unreal 3. Also got the idea from valinX to do an oil rig. Lots of metal there, plus I can work on making water inside of unreal 3.

As for a job I have some freelance work but it goes back to the waiting on eMails before it pays. Plus every time I call DeAnne (career advisor from college) to see if she can get a hold of the people I doing jobs for, she seems to ignore me. It really is disturbing when she use to bug me all the time freelance web jobs. Now it seems the roles have flipped. Wonder if that would be considered karma or her just being a bitch? As for a job out of the house, not having a car really hurts me to look outside of town. Plus the closet town being a 15 -20 minuet car drive away really takes a toll on me when doing it by BIKE.

Still not sure what I should do next but something will reveal itself it always dose!

For those who were following my SFAM challenge entry. The results are finally in! There were a lot of great entries! I took 25th out of 31 entryes. ([link]) I got some critique from an industry artist by the name of Hourences who said "The lack of lighting really hurts the scene for me. A lot of triangles of grass going on."

I agree with him 100% but in my defense shity default max lighting. Just wish I had my unreal 3 engine at the time. Well I have it now and will sure as hell use it next time!

I like my renders better, its what I put up on my portfolio. I think it is a bit silly that we shouldn't use them but they say we are real time artist not CG artists. So renders are not allowed!

------------------------

Still looking for feedback for my portfolio website (www.compnext.com)

So I was working on my website (version 5.01) it should be done and up by the end of the week. I have decided to take out the flash and put in BIG IMAGES. It looks better and loads WAY faster. I also googeled compnext to see where it was on google. (NUMBRE 1!) Then I got the idea to google my name. I found out I'm half of the links on the first page of google!
Take that Corprate British CEO with the same name! So dose this mean I have internet fame which can be turn in for internet money? ... Darn

So my modeling has slown down due to some computer prolebms. My desktop keeps crashing on me and Virsuse on my laptop. The lappy is recovering but the desktop seems to be struggling to run most of my programs. Saddly Mudbox, a friend in the making is gone. She will not run on my desktop nor my laptop. It makes me a sad panda, but I'm looking for other options. Like zBrush or something. That and two mod groups I've been doing modeling for seem to be breaking up. It really is a shame but there isn't much I can do about it. sigh...

So in my down time, I play some Little Big Planet, make some levels, aren't played because people want to play poorly redone Super Mario Brother levels. sigh... It's income to pay off my (almost paid off) credit card bill but no where enough for my school loan. That's going to take a while. On the upside Max is still running, so I'm still modeling. No viruses. I'm still making assets for three mod groups. Well two mod groups and a friends unreal level. So that's going well It has been pushed aside for the SFAM challenge from game-artist.net. I'm really liking where that is going. Kind of upsetting that it won't be inside of a game engine. My desktop which can run unreal three keeps crapping out on me. First it is the motherboard. Now the graphic's card. Damn it!

Still suffering from insomnia It is making my eye twitch really bad. it drives me nuts some days. I mostly end up watching tutorials or playing Fallout 3 until I pass out. By the way it an interesting game. Where else can you be a Human/Cyborg/Vampire Mercenary with the vision of an ant and tree bark skin! Plus watching people's head get cutoff and go rag doll in slow motion never gets old. I kind of want to get it for the PC to mess with the editor. I hear it is similar to Oblivion's. Should be since it is made by the same company. Think it is called G.E.C.K. or something like that.

I also got to see my nephew take his first steps. Awww...
Since my last entry it is just about everything! My foot isn't hurting as much, since I but some tiger balm on it. I have been inspired to model. Especially since I found my box of action figures. There are some sweet guns in there. I am getting up at 8 in the morning, that's 6 in the morning Arizona time! Life it looking up.

I'm still modding in Oblivion. Trying to get a sword to work but it is giving me issues. My oversize meat cleaver will stay on my back not in my hand. But the code still acts like it is in my hand. So when I attack i am attacking with an invisible sword. Even though it is attached to my back. WTF!?! I'm in the plans for making a house, just a little place I can call home.

My website is coming along nicely. Way better than anything I've ever made. Who knew if I treated it as texturing, I have way better luck.

Plus a friend offered me a sweet deal in July which I plan on talking him up on. You know who you are!

Good-bye Arizona and hello Ohio is one of the many things I have to say today! As of TIME today I am officially moving back to Ohio on the 17th. Hazza! Unhazza because I will miss my friends here. But that is what DA and Skype is for! Hopefully I will be able to work harder back home than out here. Here I just can’t seem to get focused and I sleep in until 10 or 11. Damn it! Time just slips away from my sleepiness.

Another note, I’ve purchased Oblivion and have entered the realms of modding another engine! With my own crate successfully imported I can see just how my normal, specular, and soon GLOW maps work inside a game engine. This means I can stop working with an older engine, Unreal 2k4. Also I’ll be trying to learning Maya. Just need to install it when 3Ds Max 9 runs out in about two months. So I can keep on modeling. Hopefully I can get a good understanding of Mudbox. All I seem to make is rocky or slimy objects. Just need some good tutorial. If anyone has one let me know A.S.A.P.! This appears to becoming a standard for one way to make normal maps.

I will also work on version 5.0 of my website. Going to do it 100% in flash! Now with more flashiness! Warning some flashiness may cause small children to go blind, deaf, dumb, and attend Collins. Some restrictions may apply.

On a sadder note, my foot has been hurting like a S.O.B. Ever since the back rim of my bike bent I’ve been walking everywhere! So with a week’s worth of walking it has caught up to meÂ

Now on with life!

Well my new version of my portfolio website is almost up and running! It's bigger brighter, and all around kick ass! Should be up and running by Monday (Nov.10.09). check it out at [link]. The new one will be black and green. The old one is a cruddy blue.

Have been modeling too, I have a few building I will be uploading. I think the normals still need tweaking but I always think that.

With my job search I feel like I am riding on a busted rocket. I am looking but in the end I will be left in the void of space, just looking at what I need and not able to get it. Just sitting inside an empty shell with my own thoughts. Hope it passes.

Well at least Turkey day is coming up!

Hazza, my days of Collins college have come to an end I can finally sleep in until 8:00 A.M. mmmmm... With he experience of Eternal Winter under my belt I can begin to look into the future! I feel it was a grand experience and teachers will be talking about if for weeks to come.

On the down side, I seem to have lost my direction. I am still modeling, working on some "ruins" on a new group project which looks a bit shaky from what I can tell. I also want to finish my graveyard I started a month ago. But without having some sort of REAL end point. I just sputter along. I have set dates for myself to finish these things and it really helps. With out some sort end point set by a teacher I feel like I'm loosing focus.

On the upside, my website is up and running. It is being held together with cyberbands and data chewing gum. ( [link] ) Have set a goal to get a new template made up to get a better one. I'm looking on [link] for inspiration. They have some bad ass tutorials there.

I like dis one - [link]

Back to the down side, lost my job! Hazza. Now I get the pain in the ass torment for looking for a new one. I have enough money to life job until December/January. Money just for rent and food, I can push it for an extra one or two!

Going further down, I have 137 days until 3Ds Max expires. Will have to get a crack or buy it. Maybe this could help - [link] Don't want to download it until max expires in case it it a 30 day trial. Looks sweet!

Back on the up, playing Spore! Having an interesting time with it in space phase. Visited another planet and evolved a creature into space phase. They were so happy with me, I nuked them and took over there planet! lol

To wrap it up, graduated from Collins, loosing way in life, modeling for another 137 days in max, looking for crack max/maya, playing spore, looking for JOB!

Well not really but I am dumping a load of models. It isn't all the models from the last entry. They were divided up among hiten369 and valinx. So with my third I am texturing them up!

The Snow Shredder is finally textured and being coded into the Unreal 2k4 engine. The textures need to be worked some more but there are other things to be done for the unreal Mod I'm working on.

Will be working on the "Jacks" more. They still need to me textured, rigged, animated, and imported. Can do it all 100% except for the last one. Code and me never get along they we I think it should. But trial and error, its the way to go!

Well off to texture!

If you ever get the chance, watch this video. It's sure was funny! - ttp://www.hulu.com/watch/28343/dr-horribles-sing-along-blog

Well I finally did it! I spend almost a whole day inside of 3D Studio Max! I modeled my ass off. Made generators, potted plants, lights, vents, and an animated flag pole! GO ME! I also finished modeling the Snow Shredder! Tis less than 900 polygons! Good for a third person mode. First person will be more detailed and a bit higher poly when optimized. With all of this great feeling the only thing that could get it down is the number 216.

For those who own bought 3DsMax from Collins College go Help>About 3DsMax... Then look for a number less than 365! Dang Collins. Can you dicier yekneg, I can!

On a final note, I have been considering about getting a ***deep sigh*** myspace page. Don't know why. Maybe all this looming graduating and unknown future is making my life all dark and depressing. Well, I'm off to hide the razor blades. CYA
