My little Canon Powershot SD550 has gone and broked. The screen on the back hit something apparently and cracked the plasma. I looked into buying a new one figuring the camera is several years old *surely* the price has gone down. Nope, it's still hovering at $350-$400. I'll be checking out how much it would cost just to get the screen repaired otherwise I know what I'm asking for for my birthday.

My cell phone screen has also gone and cracked itself. It would seem a small gang of purse gnomes have been parading around my shoulder bag and they appear to have a hatred for plasma screens. *note to self: never carry laptop in said bag*

I *may* have finally convinced my mom to get a tattoo with me. She made the comment that she wishes she had wings so she could fly away. We had a very difficult relationship as I was growing up but have mostly repaired the damage.

So, the main idea is wings on the ankles (like Hermes), that are to be similar (mom/daughter tattoo!) but reflect our personalities.

My mom is a somewhat religious (non practicing) person, very self confidence, incredibly caring of others (very motherly). She's a mature 20 year old stuck in a 50 year old body basically. So we want something mature, but fun. (No angel wings though, reminds me too much of her going to Heaven). Favorite colors are deep blues (NO turquoise!!), greens, and red. She hates pastels.

I'm a spunky, dark humoured, morbid but classy girl. I love gothic images, dark colors (black, electric blue, reds, rich greens, grey)

Any ideas?

The idea is that I want to be able to do awesome makeup for my personal photo shoots, and be hire able for other photographers as a certified makeup artist. It'll be a nice trade that will help cultivate an income for super expensive grad school.

I'll continue to post the new makeup designs I will be coming up with during my course.

Most of it will be beauty/fashion stuff, but in October we'll start to get into the real neat stuff like special effects makeup, airbrushing, the stuff I'm really interested in. Just in time for Halloween!

I seem to have misplaced my USB upload cable so, nothing from me until I can find it.

My nicname for many has been Lily and the flower means a great deal to me. So I've decided to get a lily on my right shoulder. I'm just looking for the right artist now since my drawing capabilities are none to be found. I want it dark somehow, and I've been thinking of having a stem coming down from the flower which wraps around the limp figure of a naked women.

Other news... one more month until graduation! I can't wait, this semester needs to be over NOW.

No new photography lately because I'm in a photo class working with film so I haven't had time to put my efforts into digital. I would scan them but my scanner is far, far away.

When winter break comes though, it's back to the digital camera. And if santa got my letter I *hope* I'll have a nice digital instead of a point and shoot.

The past couple of weeks have been incredibly busy and hectic. I made it through midterm exams without going crazy, having a mental break down, or falling head first into depression. For those that know me that's quite an accomplishment, so bravo to me, I'm proud of myself.

During midterms week, between studying, eating, and sleeping, I found time to decorate for Halloween and participate in the festivities. I entered a jack-o-lantern for the pumpkin carving contest and I WON! The prize is a pizza party for my floor. I'll post pictures soon as my internet connection for my lappy is working again. The basic design was a portrait of Chuckie from Chuckie's Bride, and the works WANNA PLAY carved on either side. The competition wasn't that great; my closest competetor was a carving of Yoda. I also spent a great deal of time decorating our door and hallway for the door decorating contest. It was corny, construction paper and toilet paper ghosts, the headline being a paper mache zombie bursting through our door. But cheap is what you get on a dormlife salery. We won anyway with our student cemetary, haunted house, and witch flying across the full moon.

The party was some fun, the floor showed up. Nothing too scandelous since it was thrown by the RAs.

Once Halloween and midterms were over I went home and celebrated my birthday with my family and friends. On Friday I went to Beachside with my familly and then we played some pool at the billiards hall. For once my family actually had fun together, and my dad didn't complain (another amazing accomplishment if you know my family). Saturday November 4th was my 20th birthday. Brandon and I went to dinner at Paoli's Italian Restaurant and then we met up with Kyle. I thought we were postponing the celebration for a week because no one was available but everyone surprised me at the ice skating rink and we had a great time. I kicked Brandon for surprising me, I don't like surprises.

I'm back at school now and the internet is broken which is why I'm downstairs in the cold computer lab instead of in my cozy bed with my lappy. It's also why I haven't uploaded any pictures in the past few weeks.

My inbox was exploding with journals to read, most of which I've cleared out. I'll get aroudn to thanking everyone who favved my work in my absence. My next feat will to conquer the viewing of 665 new deviations that you wonderful deviants submitted for my viewing. It'll only grow tomorrow so hopefully the internet gets back up soon so I can view, comment, and clear my art collection.

Thanks to everyone who made my 20th special!

Gauge is the best piercer EVER. He also helped me with the problem I've been having with my never healing industrial. He took out the jewlery and gave me two new barbells, one for each hole. You remember the story about getting the industrial and having an "Oops" thrown at me? So, the reason the damn thing never healed is that the holes are not aligned and so the bottom one was constantly under pressure and irritated. The solution is to let both of them heal and then Gauge is going to bend a custom industrial for me and just modify it so that the holes don't necessarily have to line up.

Did I mention he's the best piercer ever?

Anyway, on to the real topic.

I was reading the paper today and came across two interesting articles. The first one is about a teen pregnancy prevention program allowing a morning after emergency contraception called Plan B to be available over the counter. The FDA has plans to approve the pill's release but with one condition - only women over 18 years old would be allowed over the counter privillage. Statistics show that over 50,000 teenage girls have unwanted pregnancies each year and the majority of these girls are under 18 years of age. There have been no health related risks to younger women so the age restriction is still under debate. Any one under 18 would have to obtain a perscription which often takes a few days to complete the transaction, however the pill's affectiveness wears is next to null 72 hours after unprotected sex. The morning after pill is effective in preventing 90f unwanted pregnancies, I believe it should be available to all, regardless of age. Tell me what you think in the comments.

The second bit of news I noticed was an article pertaining to the annual AIDS summit. The summit, kicked off with Bill Clinton and Bill Gates, with other big names attending such as the NAACP chairman and Reverand Jessie Jackson. The NAACP chairman and other promenant black leaders have categorized AIDS as a "black disease," meaning that black people are the highest of the high risk population. Rev. Jessie Jackson urged the black community to take responsibility and launch a response against the epidemic. The article then went on to speak praises to Bush's pledge of $15 billion over a five year period to fight the disease in 15 countires.

This is the part that irks me. $15 billion over 5 years, do the math, that's $3 billion a year. We spend more than that in 3 DAYS fighting the war in Iraq. Why is fighting this war more important than controling an epidemic that has been plaguing mankind for 25 years? 65 million people have been infected since it's begin, and 25 million have died. FIGHT AIDS NOT THE WORLD.

Each generation seems to be loosing a few brain cells. We've hit our intellectual peak, not our potential, but the peak of what we will let ourselves endure and now we are crashing down. Personally, I hope we sink into oblivion and some other creatures may inhabit what's left of this planet and bring it round to some universal good.

Yes, I sound bitter. But I am sick of hearing people complain about the little bullshits in life that they can take care of on their own. Yes, I've been a hypocrite, there's no denying that. We're all hypocrites and we need to own up to it, but sometimes it does some good. I'm using my flaws to enlighten, hopefully.

Complaining does nothing to improve your situation and just annoys the people who have to sit and listen to you whine. So stop whining, take some action, and get back on your feet. With an entire generation petitioning "woe is me" the revolution of the future is likely to end up iraped in black robes drinking the wrong flavored punch while Hawthorne Heights blasts over the loudspeakers. There are some things in life you can't change, there are some you don't want to change, everyone enjoys a small amount of self pity, don't deny it. There are times when it just feels good to be the victim. For the sake of your friends, your relationships, YOURSELF, don't give into that pitiful desire, at least not so often, because we're headed down the path of watching the world blow itself up and all we're doing is crying in a dark corner because life is so cruel.

One that I had been missing quite deeply. I was nervous, excited, worried, calm, collective, contemplative, reflective, optimistic, self defeating, critical, judgemental, all of these and so many more. But the whirlwind that was inside of me calmed her bantering and it was just me and him. We talked all night while driving in a straight line, making it all the way to Santa Maria and back. We were serious, we were jokesters, we laughed, we let our eyes water, we were loud, and we were quiet. The night passed before us and we kept our heads to the sky, the stars raced overhead with each memory I tried to grasp at. We spoke of regret, and of hope. It was a wonderful night which didn't conclude until 3am, but I was greatful for it. It was something I needed, to get that piece of my life settled. I by no means think it's over, you can't fix a year of ruptured silence in one evening.

She died this morning, 7:30. She leaves behind three children, a husband, an amazing nephew, and an entire household of fabulous people; her nephew has been a very close friend.
If you find it insensitive of me to post this on DA, fuck off. I took pictures of myself in some attempt to capture this emotion, to understand. These hold no commercial value, they aren't a neon sign flashing "Woe is me." They capture loss, what it is to cry, what it is to be overcome with emotion that it comes pouring out of you and there's no containing it.
You may find the composition crappy, the lighting sub par, but try to look past the technical aspects and see the emotion. Let the darkness highlight what is real.

First of all the two elements it MUST contain are a rose and a black feather. These two icons are appropriate to my life. The rose has always been a symbol that I've grown akin to, the beauty yet the sharpness of the thorns that cut and leave their mark on life and the vision of the rose (yes it's every poets cliche, but if you knew me you'd know how well it fits.)
The black feather image came about later in life, after many trials and tribulations. A feather is such a fleeting image, almost tempermental, it's light and hopeful, yet the black weighs it down.

I've only come up with one composition idea so far and that's two bats facing each other so that the form of their wings looks almost like a whole bat, and in their talons, one holds the rose while the other the feather. The only problem with this idea is it makes it rather large and I'm not sure where I want to place the tattoo yet, and secondly it doesn't give the rose and feather quite the significance i'd like them to have.
If anyone wants to give this a shot I would LOVE to see the work and maybe it will be exactly what I'm looking for.

Okay, folks. Here's the deal.

By now, you've heard that Scott Jarkoff, aka °jark, is now a FORMER Staff Member.

I'm not privy to the whys, wherefores, and whatever-the-hells are going on behind the scenes here. Don't ask me anything about that. I know probably just as much as you do.

DeviantArt, in my opinion, is becoming less about COMMUNITY and more about CORPORATION.

So what we need to do is bring back THE COMMUNITY.

Here's my suggestion.

On August 7th, DA turns five years old. Five years for a website like this should be a grand affair, one big event.

So don't submit anything on August 7th.

I'm talking a print, a deviation, a scrap...nothing.

Instead, just leave a comment. Visit a user's page and just say hi.

If someone wants to buy a subscription that day, I'm all in favor or it. It'll keep the servers going, and anything that keeps the hamster running is a good thing.

BUT...I think folks shouldn't buy any prints. No print subscriptions. That goes against the COMMUNITY theme for the day.

We want to put the COMMUNITY back into DA.

If you're in favor of this, if you believe in the power this COMMUNITY has, then join me. Post this in your own journal. Spread the word to everyone, with a and a .

We might be touting at windmills like Don Quixote.

But if enough of us do it, we might be able to remind everyone that this is a COMMUNITY first and foremost.
