Lots of things wrong with this (eugh, the girl's eyes are way too big), still needs a lot of work...

Can anyone relate to the feeling of working on a really big and time-consuming piece and just constantly worrying that it will turn out like crap in the end? And you just having wasted your time? It sucks. :/

Like, the thing I'm worried about most here is that... when I zoom out in the end, it'll look crappy. Working on this I thought that apart from the girl's eyes this actually looked pretty badass, but then I just viewed the entire picture fit on my screen, and it actually looks very weird and flat and eugh. Strangely enough at the zoomed out size the girl's eyes don't seem to be THAT awfully big, but the guy's eyes seem TOO SMALL! AAH!

I've learned in my inks to just stop at a certain level of detail and not go further, because I've experienced that it will not make a difference OR look worse when zoomed out, and apart from me, no one is going to look at the picture zoomed in! But painting is just such a new thing for me that I don't feel confident enough yet to just work zoomed out more.

I mean, I guess I could hope that I'd be able to fix the flatness in the end, just putting a multiply layer on top and refining the shading, but... I think that still some of the details are going to distract from the overall impression of the picture when zoomed out if I keep up the level of detail I currently have going on. You know, I want the picture to be CLEAR to people when they're looking at the finished product. (I think I'll probably upload the final version as 800x800px only - look how crappy the faces look [link] !)

Anyone got advice?

Would you guys, like, at all, be interested in seeing a Patch Together figurine made of my characters? I'm thinking Mona Lisa would be the most fun, but uhh I guess if people would really want it, a different character could work too. Dodger with his gamepad? Nova?

The way it works (I think) is I'd need A GAZILLION votes, and if that works out then everyone that is serious about it can pre-order a figurine and if the required amount (will vary based on sculpture production costs) of preorders is reached, it will only actually get made.

Also, like, uh... If I could actually get a sculpture made I'd be incredibly thankful to you guys and would draw something for every person that pre-ordered.

Dodger
1) Beats me. I probably watched Oliver & Co. once in my life and I don't believe it made such a huge impression on me that I got the name from there. Maybe I came up with it based on the actual act of "dodging" something. I also remember doing comics where Dodger wanted to drive Dodge cars, because of his name. ....I'm pretty sure that the "dodging" part was why I came up with it. Since he originally liked to play pranks and was a kinda sneaky character, it made sense.
2) uhhhhhh uhh I dunno. I think I just made him up on the spot with the very first WeirdStar comic? I really don't know.
3) Well, he went from a talking dog to a furry. He also started caring more about other stuff than just playing video games.
4) HIS RIGHT EYE IS ORANGE AND HIS LEFT EYE IS GREEN. Not everyone notices this, especially not as of lately since I don't draw the eyes as animey as I originally did anymore.

Steve
1) I also am not sure. I just wanted an average sounding name. "Steve" seemed to fit that need.
2) same as with Dodger. Though I think his look was inspired by a bald friend and my love for the game Hitman. :3
3) He stopped running around topless all the time!!! THANK THE HEAVENS!
4) He shaves his hair. "Better bald than balding"

Shadow
1) Probably got the idea from Shadow the Hedgehog? Whatever. I was a stupid kid when I came up with the name and thought it sounded "cool". I guess it fit his ninja-ish self.
2) I wanted to do more with Dodger and explore different sides of him, give him alter egos (probably inspired by Snoopy, duh) - thus Shadow was born. Also heavily inspired by Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, which I loved and played at that time.
3) see above: went from Dodger's alter ego to brother. He's also wielding his sword less nowadays. The police don't like a public display of weaponry.
4) His flamey dark fur patterns on legs and hands were originally intended to be tattoos?

DJ
1) Well, he is a DJ. Originally that was standing for Dog Jockey. God, that sounds horrid. *shivers*
2) same as Shadow. Except for the Prince of Persia part.
3) also alter ego to brother. Hair grew longer. I don't draw his tattoo anymore nowadays. (DOGS CAN'T HAVE TATTOOS ON THEIR FUR DUDEEE)
4) Is the second oldest of his brothers (Shadow, Dodger) and the only one that got laid so far.

Angry Monkey
1) ....he is an angry monkey. *facepalm* His "real" name I later came up with, Alfred Mortimer Brown, is based on my love for extravagant sounding names. "Brown" because of his fur colour.
2) Dodger needed a nemesis. Who better than a monkey?
3) Well, he went from trying to get revenge on Dodger to... uhh, this. heh. On a more serious note, I tried to give him more of a backstory to justify his hatred towards Dodger better. In upcoming storylines I have planned, he also kinda gets over that whole REVENGGEEEEEE thing, realizes how childish it is, y'know?
4) He once was a part of a monkey circus thing!

Sammy
1) Not even a single clue here.
2) Dodger needed a girlfriend. Note that she actually never got to be that, except maybe in some ridicilous alternative universe. But yeah, not in the comic. She maintains a crush on Dodger though. Ayup, she knows what she was created for. *ba-dum-dsh*
3) She went from a sweet girl to a wannabe-punk rocker with a faux hawk dyed pink. Also, she grew fat and more geeky.
4) She loves multiplayer video games and is better at the majority of them than all the other characters.

Nova
1) Ahahaha I keep forgetting this. My memory, it hates me. =dodger-d on the other hand, does not. I love her. Aaaanyway a friend of a friend had a puppy by that name. She was so cute!!

I'm gonna with the Speckschwein, because while our evil hacker Jay does a lot of things he shouldn't do, he's smart about it. Mr. Frisbuck & Angry Monkey would probably be released after they calmed down from their crazy (Frisbuck) / rage (Angry). The Speckschwein would probably be the only one that does something really messed up that warrants him being locked up for a longer amount of time.

Steve? Uhhh SPACE janitor

Oh wow... Uh, let me think.

He's probably concerned with the wellbeing of his family and friends, as well as global warming and political stuff. But really "afraid"? His general outlook on life is very positive and he always tries to make the best out of things. So he doesn't fear that anything bad will happen to him. And he's not the phobia type either.

You mean whether I already have a trait in common with him or whether I would want one of his traits? I'm guessing it's the latter, so uhh I guess his determination. The guy works two jobs at once because he just wants to be able to buy a good flat.

I have a pretty diverse reading list - biographies and generally non-fiction stuff - so as a result, I don't really stick to one specific author.
Though I remember really enjoying Enid Blyton's stuff as a kid! Mysteries!

...it... It's rather personal. I'm afraid people might think it's silly, so I hope you don't mind if I don't feel comfortable sharing.

No, I was an only child. Sadly. I can imagine it would have been fun to have a brother or a sister.

Definitely some of the big seba revolutionaries and activists like Mother Lana, Baba Notho or Herbert Trein. Also Günter Wamser! He's this really awesome guy who is travelling the world on horseback. He's been a huge inspiration to me!

Dodger "Supershinygangstafunk" Smith. At least I assume that's his full name, unless he hasn't taken his owner's last name. He is to blame for everything in my life that is bad.

That would never happen! So, I'd buy some popcorn, kick back and enjoy seeing Baba Notho beat the living crap out of Dodger.

15. What would you do if you met your creator?
I would ask him why he chose to allow Dodger desecrating my name and ruining my life. Then I'd probably try to trick him into helping me utterly destroy that wretched dog.

16. What's your worst nightmare?
The worst nightmare I can remember involved me carrying an egg on my back, crawling on all fours. The egg fell off, and Dodger hatched from it. He then opened his mouth, reached inside and pulled out a dead elephant. I spoke words in an ancient and dreadful language and the elephant started to move again. Dodger immediately hopped on the elephant and rode off into the sunset. Then there was a meteor shower, but it turned out the meteors weren't actually meteors, but naked fox girls that proceeded to undress me. When they were done, they ate my clothes and exploded into a shower of candy and glitter, which started to take the form of a manicured hand, giving me a thumbs-up. Then I woke up. The first thing I saw was my dead aunt's ghost, greeting me with a big, wet kiss. It burned like acid and also tickled a bit. I thought I smelled ketchup, then I realized it was just my dead aunt's ghosts' perfume. I scolded her for wearing perfume (she was allergic to it) and she started crying and turned into a mouse that bit me in my left pinky. Then I really woke up.

17. What's your lifelong dream?
Having my revenge on Dodger, returning to my family's business and reuniting with my love.

18. What would you do if your lifelong dream came true?

Anyway, I've been dwelling on memories a bit today. I've decided on sharing two years of my life which I consider some of the best. I'm sure there are others that were great overall as well, but I'm a bit fuzzy when it comes to aligning childhood memories to a certain age or year. So this is probably more like "The Best Years of My Teenagerdom".

15 (August '04 - August '05)
WeirdStar (my webcomic that's currently – still – on hiatus, for those of you that DON'T know) was in it's prime, I had moved into a beautiful newly built apartment, I had already settled in at my new school (which was just the best one I've ever been to) and finally gotten to know all my classmates... School work was fun and both challenging at the same time. I started watching LOST, got really into Five Iron Frenzy (and music in general). I got to borrow my friend's computer for school which was capable of running NEW games (I'm currently pissed at my two year old laptop because it decided that it wouldn't let me play the demo of the new Tomb Raider game) with decent to good graphics and in the holidays I often stayed with my friends where basically the only things we did all day long were playing video games both on our own and together (playing the same game in the same room via a local network is just so much more fun than playing over the web), watching TV shows, movies, anime, and occasionally eat something, go to the toilet or sleep. Oh, and they had cats which always hung around with us. It's just so awesome when you have something to pet while watching a movie. My dog always runs off. >_>

18 (August '07 - August '08)
Since in Austria when you turn 18 you either have to go to the military or do civil service for 9 months, being the wuss I am, I chose civil service. What's „civil service“, you ask? Work in a retirement home, in my case. Washing dishes. Cleaning wheelchairs. Cleaning beds. Running around, getting and bringing stuff. Sounds fun? Well no, the WORK itself wasn't the type of work I'd want to do for the rest of my life. But the job? Man, my amazing colleagues, the old people, the exercise I was getting through the work, the growth and maturity the work brought with it, becoming less of a picky eater, having my own income... I can't even begin to describe how much I enjoyed my time there. The workplace atmosphere was just amazing and I once again just have to say how much I appreciate the presence of the people I had around me in my job. Everybody was friendly, helpful. Everybody was glad to see me, I was glad to see them. We were able to joke around with pretty much everyone. It just felt like a big family. School was also much more enjoyable through work than the year before, because it just was a great change in pace from it. I barely had time for comicking or gaming (I DID have time for LOST though, hehehe) but honestly... I didn't need it.

So, please share! What were your best years? I really would enjoy it if some people comment on this.
