new year's resolutions? not my thang, but sure, i'll give it a try;

so i went to the ust paskuhan 2008 event;

the program started really late, the parade was supposed to be 3pm(or 3:30?) onwards, and the so-called parade was comprised of just the ust cheering peeps followed by the cfad students in costumes.hmm..not much creativity in the concept(my opinion only), and that was the whole parade?just one college?it used to be that all colleges had their own parade themes.another ~contrary to tradition~ thing was, there was no mass held at the start of paskuhan, which is okay by me(dunno for the others).the firework's fuses were TOO SHORT! causing them to detonate in a not-so-safe altitude from the ground; some bits and pieces of glowing embers showered on the audience.nonetheless, the fireworks with images are nice.


the hard thing about this event is that communication is difficult, as there are over a couple thousand(or more) people are in the whole ust campus, majority of which are students and also a large percentage of alumni/outsiders; and everyone's texting and calling at the same time really slows down the network service for the area..

on the lighter side, i was overall happy about this event. i SAW WHO I NEEDED TO SEE, got to hang out with a lot of friends(,,,,,,,,,,etc.), reunited with old friends,etc. although i didnt get to give two of the presents i had prepared, it was an okay night..

we saw our old friends, michelle dela cruz, her hubby mikhail, and their beautiful baby boy, lei(whom has developed a fancy for hahaha! peace!and who, by the way, calls me "tita mike" because he thinks im a girl because of my hair,probably) they gave us food stubs for the free food served there in the food acquisition areas(mcdo and kenny rogers FTW!), ron() and paolo( ) got to stock up(REALLY STOCK UP) on the free food meals there! hahaha kakainggit kayo mehn! on the other hand, i ate 5 meals total in that whole event.

you never thought you'd be doing something you've always wanted to try out, but rarely got the chance to...and ACTUALLY enjoy it...

it started with a frustration back in high school, and recently revived because of a few reasons i'm not willing to talk about...


~when you hear music with a good beat, ever had that strong nagging feeling to move with it?~


i recently got into dancing(hip hop & pop)...its something of a frustration for me, since back in high school, i was such a nerd AND a geek. always in the library, non-athletic, loner, few friends..

wikipedia defines these both as:

GEEK= A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest. This definition is very broad but because many of these interests have mainstream endorsement and acceptance, the inclusion of some genres as "geeky" is heavily debated. Persons have been labeled as or chosen to identify as mathematics geeks, engineering geeks, sci-fi geeks, computer geeks, various science geeks, movie and film geeks (cinephile), comic book geeks, Rush geeks, theatre geeks, history geeks, gamer geeks, music geeks, art geeks, philosophy geeks, literature geeks, and roleplay geeks.


NERD= is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests that are age inappropriate rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers.


i must've gotten this strong urge to move because of the VERY LONG AND BORING post-surgery recovery period; where i'm not allowed to run, lift heavy things and do sports..just lie around, not doing much..THAT got me SO bored, i started doing handstands and pull ups again only 3 weeks after surgery; and i'm taking extra care in doing these, so as not to tear my stitched abdominals..(although i think i overstretched them a bit last night while on a handstand)

..i remember IROH from the cartoon/anime avatar:the last airbender season 3; where he was captured as a prisoner of war and he was caged as a rat, with little space and all..then he started doing pull ups, sit ups, push ups, the works. he kept his body fit as to prepare himself for his inevitable escape...


some of my other hobbies also came from frustrations, like martial arts and playing the violin...im also a frustrated pianist, so i practice with our keyboards at home when i have time...

~subplot~life is full of ironies..we end up liking stuff that are opposite our personalities..we set standards for ourselves and we end up with what we didn't expect. only sometimes it's hard when we realize what we really want only too late....we can only try our best to get so far(or near enough)....i also remember a friend told me once; "what you want, you don't get. what you get, you don't enjoy. what you enjoy is not permanent. whats permanent becomes boring."

its been a crazy few weeks. i was hospitalized due to an infected gallbladder and when i was there, the tests showed that i also had reflux esophagitis(stomach acid problem)..so i had a gastroscopy(i even had a copy of the video, its very interesting to see your own insides). came to visit and brought a cake and some drinks, too bad i never got to see him as i was in the gastroscopy room the time he arrived(thanks,dude!)

the nurse then inserted dextrose in my hand, my right, cause i have a cyst in the left and it could block the fluids.she asked me what my job/occupation was, after seeing the numerous veins in my hands.she finally got a vein, and inserted the damn thing.it really hurt..she even forgot to place the dish that collects the spillovers, so my blood splattered across the bed, spreading like wildfire.there was so much blood..the only saving grace she had was that she looked like miriam quiambao,a local beauty queen/celebrity..

and came to visit and provide kidlat support

the next day, was wednesday,surgery day.they had me strip naked and lie on the bed used for transporting patients to the operating room.they did a lot of blood drawing, skin testing, injections, the whole shebang...i was really uncomfortable with the fact that i was naked under the sheets, any slight movement will expose my bare essentials (T.T) so i was brought to the operating room, i saw the various machines and such; it looked and felt like a nazi torture room, or a science lab and i was the frog to be dissected..they gave me a spinal injection, and put me on oxygen..the surgeon sure took a long time to get to my room, because he was still doing other cholecystecomies in other rooms(this surgeon was an in-law of my uncle who was mayor in a province, so i had a fair discount). while waiting for the surgeon, i was chatting with the nurses, asking them about the machines, etc..i must've looked weird, talking to them a lot..i get really talkative when im nervous, so there i was, blabbing on..after the endless questions i gave the nurses, the rest of the crew finally came in, and i just lied there, relaxed.the oxygen mask i had must've put me to sleep or the injections at my dextrose..

and then i woke up, still dazed, i saw a couple of nurses still wearing their surgery masks(like in grey's anatomy, ER, etc.)they noticed that i was looking at them so they told the surgeon..it seems that i woke up IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OPERATION!

the surgeon then raised something using his forceps, it was like a bloody water balloon..he said that it was my gallbladder while showing it to me.he then placed it in a jar, and showed me the gallstone next.it was about the size of a quail egg, also bloody.after that i remember dozing off..and i keep waking up in mid sleep, aware that i was finally being transferred out of the operating room..

i woke up again, this time shivering like an epileptic person who just watched pikachu's seizure-inducing episodes in pokemon.i was in a white room, lots of other patients in beds..they put a lamp in front of me so that i would keep warm(the meds must've given me the chills).i kept drifting in and out of sleep, and when i finally woke up, it was because of discomfort, (but i won't talk about that part) i realized that i was in a recovery room, a large room for those who just came from surgery.i was in the corner of the room..the guy to my right(also a patient) was very obnoxious, always complaining about stuff,even while bedridden.it seemed that this guy was in an accident a few hours ago, he was bleeding through his oxygen tube-things..

after a long and very annoying stay at the recovery room, i was finally transferred back to my room.my dad was there, and i was VERY grumpy because i wanted to go to the bathroom badly, but the nurses were strictly against.the meds must've made me very grumpy and irritable, my dad told me bout my behavior the morning after.

i was told that i was in the recovery room for about 10 FRIGGIN' HOURS! all that time, i thought i was there for 30 minutes tops..

so i was finally back in my own comfortable bed..i remembered that i was waiting for a tv show(kyle xy) and it was already very late, so i was very disappointed, yknow, being a tv addict..

i got a nice grade for my thesis,

i graduated on time,(come to think of it, i graduated high school in 2003, and college in 2007--3 and 7 are two lucky numbers for me)

i graduated college while i was still 20 years old(a big deal for me cause almost all of my batchmates are a year older than me..)

i got to enjoy my vacation after finishing school,

and after half a year of unemployment(haha!) and countless job fairs attended, i finally landed a regular job as a 2d digital artist at a local video game company, which is the foremost game developer in the philippines! how cool is that?!

i got to finally purchase a rare legacy of kain action figure, something i've always wanted to display at my room! yeah!

i got to do the stuff i've always wanted to do, but never had the time,

plus, i got to meet a few VERY INTERESTING people up close and personal..(--,)(heart beating)

now that i turned 21 when the clock struck twelve, and the whole country's celebrating the new year, i set a goal for myself that i would be successful and financially secure by 25 years old; seeing as we only have ten years to establish ourselves in our respective careers, another twenty years for raising a family before we become obsolete(pardon the term) in society..life IS short, so we must do what we can while we still CAN..

....but we have to remember to enjoy what we're doing and enjoy our youths, for we only live young once..


damn, i feel old already...HAHAHAHA!

1. I'm electrophobic...(childhood accident..burned my right hand's metacarpal thumb bone's skin)

2. I am currently studying traditional chinese wushu/wuyi/quanfa/kung fu..particularly the hung fut style(combination of hung gar and fut gar styles)

3. I play the violin..(took lessons back in freshman college)

4. I'm homophobic--due to a number of traumatic instances..(i won't mention anymore, but that's that)

5. I went on a european tour with my family way back in the '90s--got to play with snow in switzerland, got to taste holland's cheese, got to the top of the eiffel tower(believe me, once you reach the summit, you will never fear heights in other places again), i got to see the mona lisa real close..

6. I got to see the dolphin show at ocean park, hong kong

7. I almost got lost in bahrain when i was left alone(or i think i did), but man, was it hot in there!

8. I used to be a geeky kid

I almost got hit by a bullet while walking to recto with a classmate; good thing i recognized gunfire sounds and pulled him to cover.the lady at my front got hit in the head; above the right eye. we called for help and got her to a nearby hospital. she was still alive but she didn't make it through the night.

10. once, when i couldn't sleep, i saw a shooting star through my window..but this was no ordinary shooting star...this one looked like it was REAL close and i saw it was burning green, yellow, orange, blue, flames..could'a been a UFO (or sumthin')...and there was no mention bout it in the news(men in black??)

11. In relation to number 10, i love supernatural stories, weird and bizzarre phenomena..i read a lot of these..

finally my months of hard labor paid off!

my thesis jurors liked my work and included it to the exhibit (--,)

i remember the last few minutes before my defense, i was totally unsure of myself, like my heart's not into it...
the laptop my friend lent me for the powerpoint presentation had low batt, and i had 11 minutes to present, because there were important aspects i had to discuss that were on the powerpoint--so i talked like there was no tomorrow.my jurors consisted of 2 old-school professors; ms. loza and sir vicedo; plus a guest juror named jon ollars from SWEDEN. so i had to present in full english....after my presentation, question and answer portion came--my jurors didn't say squat about my marketing and advertising; they just wanted to view my illustrations closely. i basically had around 5 questions the whole course of the defense. my thesis was about the synthesis of manual comic book illustration and digital rendering plus native filipino materials such as; bamboo strips, nito, sawali, etc. the foreigner only asked what those mterials were for,since he was from sweden(obviously) and i elaborated.
this whole thesis thing had me by the balls. my computer crashed while trying to make the endorsement deadline, i got sick, my pin button collaterals weren't done when i had it made, countless sleepless nights penciling and coloring...

thank God i made it.
