first, my band warlord uk have been offered a 3 album / 6 year deal to sign with swerve records ... which is awesome news...
also warlord uk's first album "maximum carnage" recorded back in 1996 has now been re-released.. go buy it!!

art-wise i've been working on a new cd design which you can see in my gallery... and a lot of photography, following my trip to newquay last month.

Just thought its about time i updated this with some news which has been keeping me very busy recently...

I've joined a band called Warlord. We've be rehearsing like crazy and I've learnt all their old songs and we've written a few new ones. so far we're sounding pretty good. still some work required to get it all tight and knitted but we're heading in the right direction.

i'll keep our gig listing updated below so if you guys (and girls) wanna come see us you know where and when...

well as some of you know, I'm a big fan of a program called lightwave 3d... I have version 7 at the moment, but having neglected it for a while I've decided to upgrade and redouble my efforts to create art from zilch.

so in the next few weeks/months(maybe even years) you'll see some more photo's no doubt but also some 3d stuff... might even merge the two, after all, compositing was one of my strong points at college.

if there's anything you have thought "that'd be so cool but i cant do it in 3d", just drop me a note and we'll see what we can do! :-D

I'm currently designing my website, gonna get it up and running with a gallery, a blog, my girlfriend is also gonna get a gallery and a blog... we'll also be available for commissions and photo shoots (in the Birmingham, UK. area only, limited transport(i.e.. the bus/train)) focusing on band/artist shoots.

well, its that time again, the time i should be in bed but instead i'm online writing another journal...

ok... this week i've been to newquay... over 7 days, i've... used 2 sets of batteries, taken over 500 pictures... and over the next 2 days, i'm gonna process all the RAW files, all the JPEG's and hopefully have something to show you wonderful people...

its been good, got some great sunsets, landscapes, some baby kestrals, lots of seaguls, lots of sun, sea and sand...

well, over the last few weeks I've taken so many pictures...
discarded alot of them as not meeting the standard...
kinda hard on myself, but i figure it's the only way to get better...
if it's not perfect... it's not good enough.

my next project is to take a few pictures and combine them in a sort of photomanipulation/illustration cd cover for my demo cd.
I play guitar and I've written and recorded several tracks, now i need to make a cd cover for my demo... any ideas will be welcomed and considered... note me.

i want to try to incorporate kinda illustrator style graphics with photography and maybe some photoshop/manipulation... the title i'm thinking will be either "you look a bit ghost" or "forever and the weekend after". its a metal/electro/industrial sort of demo and i kinda want that to be evident from the cover.

well anyway i'm off to bed, gonna sleep on the ideas...

i think i love RAW!...

its better than bracketing cause you dont have to wait for your camera to take 3 pics then try to composite them in photoshop to get the right exposure for each part of your scene... just take 1, convert 3 versions from RAW and put em on separate layers...

they all line up perfectly cause its the same picture, then with layer masks pick the parts for your image and woo! there we have it... PERFECTION!!!

RAW ROCKS!!!

Hey people, as u may have noticed, i'm on a bit of a photography rampage as of late.

it all started off when my gorgeous girlfriend bought me a new digital camera...
an awesome Fujifilm S6500fd...

an upgrade from my last camera, a Fujifilm S5600...
It's kinda put a sparkle back into photography, i can now take the pictures I've wanted to take for years... all i need now is a few good idea's to pop into my head and I'll be there with my camera ready....

i've recently found out a few things about me...

I'm not who i thought i was, i realised i believe in magic, even tho i thought i didn't...
i saw a magician, i went up onto the stage, he wrote down a number, then he asked how much money i had in my wallet, just the loose change... so i counted it, in secret, in my head... then, he asked me, while he showed the audience the number he'd writen, i said 50pence, he then showed me the paper, it said 50pence! i don't know how he knew, he shouldn't have been able to know. I DID NOT TELL HIM!

i recently found out about everyone else...

Everyone likes something, there are enough people who like things so that there is ALWAYS someone who likes whatever we do! i realised it when i went with some of my friends to see some bands, it doesn't matter if the music is good, as long as there are enough people there, someone will start moving and it will spread. after a few moments, EVERYONE will start enjoying even BAD music! i'm guessing the same applys to everything, even art.

news

My life is going pretty well at the moment, everything's kinda falling into place. same stuff still not how i want it... esp. money. january is too long esp. cause i got paid early too! just before xmas. oh well same thing happened last year but i made it.

music

well my band are really starting to kick off properly now, took their time but we're off and running... we played a gig at the little civic in wolverhampton and we got lots of people saying we were the best band on the night... we had a mosh pit during our set and at the end of the gig we had a chant of... "magua, magua, magua!" echoing around the venue. both were unprovoked and totally awesome!

we've recorded a demo, should be getting the finished mix back from our sound engineer some time soon! (watch this space!)

my iPod nano arrived, it's pretty cool! filled it up with music and neglected my cd player which has kept me music-ified for the past year! (sorry cd player!)

art

art has been flowing, well the idea's have the art has actually been a little slow, been quite busy! but i have got ideas, just not got the time to use them for anything usefull.

i have recoloured my deviant id, just like blue a bit more than green. so that's been edited.

My Archangel made it onto Phirebrush, went down quite well i think! (giggles) oh well

oh by the way, if anyone wishes to maybe do some sort of colaboration with me, just drop me a note and i'll get back to you!

My band, magua, are now writing even more material. that means even more songs for gigs, unfortunatly we're experiencing singer related problems (i.e. he's not turning up as much as he should be).

Currently art is on a bit of a pause. with work, website, rehearsal, driving lessons etc... i've not got exactly alot of time to create anything imaginative... kinda sucks.

I'm Matt, I work as a graphic designer for a rubber stamp company.
I try to stay away from my work style when i'm not at work, but every now and again...

I'm in a band called Magua. We play kind of a cross between hard rock and metal, with odd time signatures and some very weird rhythms, but it just makes it very interesting. I play guitar, and I love it!
