I can't wait! My, um, absence from deviantart may however not be all that noticeable, considering I didn't quite yet get around to fulfilling my ambitions to actually scan the past year's work and get a proper look through my giant watchlist of everyone's gorgeous art! Things have been generally brilliant but still quite crazy!!! And things do look very much set to continue in this vein in the immediate future... Slow and steady progress is (occasionally) being made behind the scenes, though. See you all later in the New Year! Needless to say things have been busier lately, but I'm absolutely loving the new and more varied routine!!! At the moment it's mid-semester break; I've just returned from a week's holiday in Broken Hill which was lovely; the animals are currently well in spite of some recent dramas; a language has been at least attempted; there may be a bit of travel on the horizon to look forward to; uni and work and frolicment and such are very involving and more than behaving themselves... and numerous biscuits have been made and consumed. I'm really enjoying the way things are going at the moment. For the meantime, please forgive my continued absence in the immediate future. Hope your art and life is filled with fabulousness. Funnily enough, when I was at art school, I ended up drawing almost nothing for pleasure in my spare time, but when working in a not-particularly-interesting job, or now that I'm at uni, I'm back into it again! And, lately, concentrating more on original work, too, which is currently feeling somewhat more rewarding! I know that some amazing people want to, and seem to be able to, concentrate almost solely on their art and put so much into it - but out of curiosity, who else here feels that their artistic enthusiasm is dependant on a balance with other elements of life (which may or may not be less fulfilling)?

Since I last posted about anything remotely connected with real life, I have adopted two beautiful British Shorthair cats! With the nervous laughter of the literary nerd I confess I named them Bertie and Reggie. Unfortunately, Tobias - the last rat of my original fantastic four - passed away earlier this year, as did one of my two guinea pigs, Mr. Squeaky. I'm currently on a shelter search for a new guinea pig friend for the cagemate he left behind, and I'm feeling the suckage and disorientation that comes with being ratless for the first time in years! But in general - although I won’t attempt to give any kind of summary, partially because I can’t seem to remember anything - uni is going very well indeed, and things are rather super.

And I finally got around to watching The Mighty Boosh, which may just be the best thing ever.

So far, university looks to be spiffy.

I have finished scanning and posting all work from art school last year, and will now move onto the predominantly watercolour personal art (original characters, fanart, animals, and so on) from throughout last year and early this year! Although after quitting art school I proceeded to lay off the drawing for a number of months, I've still got some work from that period to select, scan and post up here - mainly nude sketches - and others in a more illustrative vein from relatively recently. However, when I will get off my arse and scan them is another matter entirely...

In the meantime I've still been lurking on this site, fooling around with a job, and learning to drive, but generally having one giant, awesome holiday. Unfortunately, my uncle passed away, as did three of my animals (Sven the mouse, Pumpkin the rabbit, and Filbert the rat). I've adopted a new guinea pig called Vincent from the RSPCA, and applied for a Bachelor of Arts at Macquarie University next year, which I’m looking forward to immensely! The long and short of all this is; expect the art to start trickling in again in the next month or two.

New art will occur in due course. I just can't seem to find anything that a.) is small enough to scan, b.) is of subject matter so unquestionable I actually have the nerve to post it, and most importantly, c.) I'm happy with. You'd think that after a whole term of art school I'd have something to show for it, but most of the work I've done is practice. Still, there are one or two I'll get out the old scanner for. Just you wait (an inordinately long time).

There's the core subjects of theory and drawing, as well as painting, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture and photography. I have an inkling that sculpture and photography will be the subjects I won’t continue with next term. The lecturers seem pretty darn awesome, although I will have to work on understanding French accents. Through a food-poisoning induced haze from the consumption of an unfortunate chicken foldover on the first day, I recall the second lecturer saying something about most contemporary art sucking, and putting forth the opinion that our artworks should by no means always be about ourselves. Strong opinions, to be sure, but ones that I find refreshing to hear!

There are around 130 students, perhaps more than three-quarters of which are female, and all of which seem pleasant, or at the least, interesting. Everyone with whom I have become briefly acquainted so far has been incredibly nice and generally awesome.

The site used to be a jail, and has quite an interesting history of criminals, artists and actors, with which I am only barely familiar.

Term starts on the 14th of next month. As seedy as the area can be, I'm sure it will be worth it. There is no other place I'd rather go!

The eldest of my pet rats, Bob, is suffering from pneumonia (which his brother died from relatively recently). Although I feel I was late in diagnosing his illness, the vet did not suggest euthanasia, which gives me hope that treatment will at least improve his quality (if not quantity) of life! I've been loaded up with two sets of antibiotics and a borrowed nebulizer to inflict upon the poor boy twice daily. My room looks like a science exhibit.

I am so touched by my little sweetie's behaviour! Even though he is confined to a separate cage and struggling to breathe, he still bruxes affectionately when I'm hand-feeding him and clambers up my arm whenever I open the cage! He is also clever enough to realise certain things such as the need to keep his upper body elevated in order to help him breathe. However, he despises the nebuliser and just moments ago chewed a hole in the tube... I've patched it up with masking tape, but I dread that I will have to pay for the entire machine when I ultimately try to return it to the vet who was kind enough to lend it to me... However I still think it will work for as long as I need it. He's always been a tough cookie and he seems to be fighting off his illness to the best of his ability. I hope he improves!

Now that every single person I care to stalk has an online journal, I'm finally succumbing. Anything of that nature will probably be posted there instead, unless it's art-related or of particular importance.

Having several websites is fine, but I've decided to separate and reduce the content of each because - possibly due to sheer laziness - I find it difficult to update all of them regularly!

While I'm on this organisational spree, I may also be reducing the number of favourites and people I deviantwatch. No offence is intended!

The Bachelor of Fine Arts starts in mid Feburary. It's a studio-based course; apparently they do at least nine hours of drawing a week! Woo! I am so impressed with their high emphasis on technical skills. I hope to learn much more and improve over the three years... Three years! I wonder what it will be like? From what I've seen, there's an interesting mix of personalities and age groups, consisting of a surprising number of mature-age students. The art theory is taught chronologically, which I imagine will make it an awful lot easier to understand.

I really hope to keep in contact with certain friends from school and so on - that's Shannon, Jane, Ali and Amanda, if you're reading this! With luck, most of us will be in or near the city, which would make meeting up a whole lot easier. I hope everything goes well. Now I'm feeling suspense more on their behalf than my own in terms of the results coming out. I know they're all such clever little munchkins.

Now almost everybody I know has an online journal. All the better to stalk them with, I say. Har har har. I am so impressed with Jane's; she makes an effort with it! I mean to say, she spells correctly, uses punctuation, and writes fluently and intellectually. Go her!
